4.3 ROMs? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

What ROMs are okay to flash if you have the Knox bootloader. Im so confused about this Knox thing. Ive read if it doesnt change your bootloader you will be fine and others saying i have to wait for a stok mk3 .tar (i do believe thats the right one) file to be available. one dev posted a rooted 4.3 rom and he said this wont mess with the bootloader. im just nervous dont want to brick my phone. someone please help and shed some light on this confusing situation

This should be Q and A section, and Cnexus posted a FAQ about this in general section....

I'm running the cm11/kitkat experimental build and I have the new knox bootloader, the rom requires some tweaking, I will post it soon if the original dev doesnt incorporate my fixes.

If you want a simple answer, then here it is: you can flash any rom you want.
Only one catch: do not EVER Odin a full stock tar with version < MK3 to your device or you will instantly brick.

Thank you. First answer I've been able to understand. Just stay away from Odin and .tar files. About to flash your ROM so I can have root and from what I've been reading pretty good battery life as well. Thanks for your work man.

I've been running it with ART and I haven't had it reboot on me yet. I think once I was doing something with the camera gallery and the camera 'broke" and required a restart but I can't remember if that was when I was playing with cm10.2 or cm11.

The original ROM checks for "know" baseband versions to make sure you dont try flashing the ROM on the wrong device. I had to unpack the ROM, add support for the new baseband and then repack the ROM inorder to get it to install. I also change he kernel cmdline to set SELinux to permissive mode by default (like it was in 4.3). I will post the tweaked ROM shortly.

What TW ROM should I install and NOT mess up the EFS?

Hi guys.
The title pretty much says it all.
I currently have the XXDME4 modem installed (went to this from XXDLJ2 and... I have no idea what modem I was using prior to that) and am using Slim Bean ROM. But, I want to give a TouchWiz ROM a try, to test something sound related (5 minutes), then be done with it and return to AOSP based ROMs and such. With all this modem/EFS talk... I am very confused. Don't know what modem/ROM base I am safe to go to now...
So. What TouchWiz ROM should I install and be free of any EFS ****ed up things?
Thanks in advance!
If u r happy with this modem, install a rom like assasin which gives you option whether to keep the old modem and kernal or to change it. If you dont change the modem, efs wont be messed up I fee

Take a backup of the EFS by using the tool here. Then it'll be easy for you to restore.

I know that, but... I wanna do it the easy way, without having to backup & all...
Anyway, guess I'm gonna have to do that.
One q. Now, as I am on XXDME4, if I ever switch to another modem which changes EFS... if I revert back to XXDME4, will it be okay?
(still got a lot to read on this thing, that's why I'm asking for now)

Ya. If you lose your EFS anytime at all, Revert back to XXDME4 and restore this image.
There is no other easy ways than this. This would just take seconds and you're already rooted.
As mentioned by people before, you're fine as long as the ROMs you're flashing doesn't mess up with modem.

That's easy, download any rom, enter the archive with some Zip tool and replace the modem part with your current one. Or if you feel up to it, edit installation script to not flash modem. You can do the same with kernel so it is not flashed at all. That way you can use any rom without fear
Most roms are in fact compatible with wide variety of kernels / modems (even if some are included in installation - they are tested by developer to be fully compatible) so you should have no problems. For your information you can currently use all roms that are from ME6, MF2 and MG1 family - as Adam's kernel author mentioned, the compatibility problem lies in changed kernel ramdisk and he uses old one so you can flash his kernel over any TW rom without fear of breaking EFS.

It's easy: rom names are created from years and months and inmonth revisions
so LL7 is revision 7 of December 2012 rom
A-January
B-February
C-March
D-April
E-May
F-June
G-July
and so on...
also
A-2001
B-2002
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
L-2012
M-2013
So anything before ME1 is really safe. Best would be to flash stock for example XXDMC2 and on that flash any new custom rom with modem and kernel flashing disabled.
Oh... I think I understand...

But hang on a second. What if I flash a new modem? I do not intend to stick to TW - I just wanna test something sound related cause NO ONE ELSE WOULD then go back to Slim/CM etc.
If I use the very latest modem (whichever that may be) and use them on CM... Would there be a problem?

Not from CM side CM mostly does not care what version of modem you have, and it's not the modem that is creating all those problems, but newer kernels (ME6 and newer). So don't touch the modem at all or flash it if you want. But don't flash newer kernel ME6, MF1 or MG1. Flash Perseus 36.3 kernel, do it immediately after flashing rom, without restarting recovery, because once you run new kernel even one time you have a problem.

[Q] suggestions on roms and guides to get started.

Sorry guys no time to use search.
Recently got a sgs 4 mini LTE (i9195) and was wondering what the best roms and tools are for her.
I'm pretty geeky so I like speed and stability and dark theme'd roms and just about any trick a device can pull off.
I mostly i'm and play fps games.
Please advise accordingly.
Thanks.
I really have no idea what to look for or how to get started at all.
If anyone thinks I'm going to start a troll war.. let me make it clear that I actually really like this device.
No idea what tools are safe.
Thanks for all the help.
Tried searching threads.
i'm on stock 4.2.2 and i still have no clue wtf to use.
All i want is to remove all the bloatware and get a nice kernel.

That depends on your phone whether it has Knox flag or not. You can see this in the stock recovery, with a string called: 'KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0'
If you see such string, that means you phone has Knox, install a custom recovery will trigger and become 0x1 = warranty void.
If have knox and care about warranty and only want ROOT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
If you don't have knox or don't care, than any other ROOT method with custom recovery can be used.
List or ROMs and Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590976
I always prefer the Slimrom myself, as the name applies, it got the least app preinstalled.
I'm using CyanogenMod, I can really recommend, it's really good.
Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
In the time it took you to write the first 3 posts you could easily have found the info by yourself
Btw,I really like SlimKat - great battery and minimalistic - but if you like stock have a look at this rom and simply run the debloat script (should also be somewhere in there), else let me know and I will look for it in my bookmarks.
Sorry if i seemed to waste time I did some searches,
But in the past on other devices, I have had some roms that were full of trojans and even a bootloader that was made to trash a phone.
So I'm ultra careful making sure I don't flash anything funny.

If however you take the plunge and install TWRP, you will probably need this.

I tried to be clear that this was for the tutorial, not needed for you...yet.
If you are going to flash a ROM, even via FlashFire, I believe that you will trip Knox. Same with a custom kernel. (Joe, can you ask a dev?) That said, if flashing a ROM is in your future or if you want to include this in your tutorial, then you might as well flash and use TWRP. And if you flash TWRP, you should flash the patch.
Joe, I hope to see you on the Dark Side soon...we have cookies! (And some pretty cool ROMS!)

Or you can install the proper kerne for your device and the rom will work fine. I use the Edge version on my phone with a custom kernel and it works great...and I can enjoy all the edge features.

Yeah, quoted wrong person lol. Sorry bout that. But yes, I believe from looking at the sources I have, the only difference from 920 to 925 is the additional screen space which our devices don't have, so the touch gets screwed up. Updating the TPS firmware reads the board, and updated it to the right one.
But, what koop said is what I was getting at Lol.

This is kinda a pointless post. Its been stated multiple times that you can not flash note 5 roms without a proper patch. Yes, it will flash but will have hard key bugs along with others. You can even hard brick your device to a point you can't even flash stock odin tars to fix the issue. You all have been warn. Until the patch is out if it ever comes out I would not be flashing random note 5 roms.
AGAIN DONT FLASH NOTE 5 ROM WITHOUT PATCH OR PERMANENT BRICK CAN HAPPEN THAT CANT BE FIXED!
I use lamlazy and it works just fine.As far as back and recents,i use swipe gestures to do that. With the very limited options as far as roms, why not?

G928PVPU2BPG1 stock boot.img
If someone wishes to post me the stock official unmodified boot.img extracted from G928PVPU2BPG1 ?
I might be able to try build a SkyHigh kernel for you. Cannot guarantee working as designed on UX BETA firmware though. On latest stock, I'm confident the only issue will be user related . . . BUT never guarantee anything. It is difficult to blind build for device I don't own and unable to personally test !! I only have a day or so to do it, then the offer is off the table.

About time, I've emailed you a few MM boot img's. If you flash a custom kernel with and sprint note 5 MM rom you will have full use of the rom, including recent and back keys and a lot less chance of it bricking.

Yes. A few have spammed me and if they had bothered to read my thread OP FAQ they would understand.

I personally thank you. If you decide to build your kernel for us again, it will open up a lot of roms for us. So thank you.

Always best to use SkyHigh on stock. Any possible custom ROM call audio "issue" will be up to the ROM cook - dev to sort out - - not the kernel.
I'll PM you with a test soon. Please try on stock with no other BS interfering tweaking apps and scripts etc. Instructions are same for all variants, so please familiarize with requirements and install instructions (from other SkyHigh MM threads)
