[Q] Noob question regarding gapps - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So, some versions of gapps seem to be compatible with ART, and others are not. I'm wondering: if I find a gapps build (example: pa_gapps from 11/11/13) that is originally compatible with ART, is it safe to update my apps from the google play store after I load up art? Or am I supposed to keep all my apps the same?
In other words, does updating my apps in the app store change the version/compatibility of the gapps I flash with a rom? Is having the latest gapps build the same as having the most updated version of the apps from the google play store?
I hope I'm making sense :cyclops:

Usually a link will be in the OP of whatever ROM you are running. Sometimes they use "signed" versions of Gapps too.
Or here on Goo.im
http://goo.im/gapps/
But Google could have told you that.

All Google apps should update themselves via play store. As for Google phone, can you find it on play store?
Are you talking about that one?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer
the version seems to be 2.5.12_rc9
Anyway it's only for Nexus phone as all other phone use their own dialer and especially all CM rom (that's why you have to add the gapps afterward but that won't replace the dialer).
For other gapps, simply install the biggest gapps package, some google apps can only be updated, that mean if it's not pre installed, you can't install it (the purpose of the gapps). gapps micro lack a lot of google apps so use stock or super.
Edit : ok, simply use the google apps package called "stock"
https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Stock-Package
it will replace the dialer, the dialer you want.
have google apps under cm, but dont update the play. if i download from play than will duplicated.
am i right, that just from recovery have to install again the latest open gapps, and will up to date the phone, calculator, all google apps.
gapps will be considered as system app, the version from google play will act as an update.

which is best gapps package ?

just want gmaps an gmail an playstore unless there is any others you recommend?

Nano gapps gives you maximum functionality without installing all the apps
Pico will give you the minimum functionality - things like OK Google and some other things won't work
Gmaps & Gmail you can just install from playstore - no need to select a gapps package that installs these to system especially when you update them it will duplicate the app (the original system app & the update is installed in data)

How Does Lineage Update It's Pre-installed Stock AOSP Apps?

I installed Lineage without Gapps, I later changed my mind and added Gapps separately (Pico version, so just the Play Store and Services without any other Google Apps).
But now Play Store doesn't show the stock pre-installed apps AOSP that came with Lineage so I don't get any app updates.
Is this normal behavior? Can anyone verify that it's the same for everyone?
For example...
com.android.dialer
com.android.messaging
com.android.contacts
com.android.calendar
com.android.calculator2
org.cyanogenmod.audiofx
org.cyanogenmod.snap
org.lineage.jelly
...and all other pre-installed stock Lineage apps don't appear on the Play Store as installed apps.
Keep in mind that these are not Google apps. they are AOSP apps (except audiofx, snap, and jelly which are from Lineage). For instance there is the com.android.contacts apk and then the com.google.android.contacts apk.
The com.android.contacts apk doesn't even appear when I search for it on the Play Store, not even on my browser, it's like it doesn't exist.
So how does Lineage keep these up-to-date in general? Via it's own OS updates or does someone always need to have Play Store or an app like APKUpdater to stay updated?
Thanks
I think those apps are updated (if needed) in new Lineage builds. One could sideload an updated app if you came across one. I don't think there's anything like the playstore for aosp apps, and they of course won't be available through the google playstore.

Gapps crash

Hi to all!!
I don't know if this is the right section...anyway I have a question.
I build my own custom rom touchwiz kitkat based for our Note 2 and test it for a few days. The only problem are some google apps that keep crashing continously like google drive, google keep and google calendar.
I flash gapps 4.4 (nano and/or PA stock Gapps) after install my rom but the apps mentioned above crash when I launch it.
How do you think I can solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
