Sol Ear buds not working with Moto X? - Moto X Accessories

I got my "made for moto" navy sol ear buds from the moto website last week and they don't even work with my phone!
They work perfectly on my old iPhone 4 and RAZR m. However when I plug them into my.moto the sound only works if the jack is oriented in a specific way. If I turn it the music continually switches between my headphones and the phone speaker! To note, my moto works fine with other brand ear buds.
Anyone else have this issue??

I just got mine and opened the package just to test this out, and they work great. Yours might just be defective.

Shoot I hope it isn't the phone. Other ear buds work OK in the motox but haven't had the chance to try another set with a !microphone on them

Yeah mine work great. First set of earbuds I've had that don't hurt my ears excruciatingly after 10 minutes (I have tiny ears). LOVE THEM.

I just got a pair last night and mine work perfectly fine.

Just got one. Okay sound, but they work fine.

i got some sol buds too and i think they're garbage. the hard plastic digs in to my ears and they're not comfortable after long periods. also, the buds do not produce a full sound. i have a set of dell buds i got with a laptop some 7+ years ago that sound 10x better and require half the volume as these. i've been thinking about sending them back for another pair. the sound is seriously terrible (IMO). i really wanted to like these buds.

They don't sound good if you don't get a proper seal in your ear canal. If you move them and seal, they sound pretty good. Try the other sizes. I have to have 2 different size cushions on mine because I have funny shaped ears.

I'd agree they aren't really close to my JLab in ear headphones in terms of sound or build quality. Like the look of them though and the mic works great.
To anyone curious I discovered a bit extra glue around the bottom plastic ring on the jack. This was causing the audio to cut out at a certain angle when plugged in. I scrubbed off the glue and the headphones work fine!

thanks for the advice, but i've already tried this. it doesn't matter how far i shove those things in, they're not sounding better. i can have my X on one notch and hear audio on my Dell buds. The S/J require almost full volume.

Someone a few posts up said there was glue on the headphone prong and they cleaned it off. Then everything was great.

My son's Moto X arrived yesterday, and his Sol Ear buds are showing the same issue (even has the same color as the OP). He has them at school so can't check for glue till later. They only cut out at certain rotation angle in the Moto X. Tried them in several other devices (Samsung GS3, Ipod Touch, ...) and the angle doesn't matter. Also tried other ear buds in the Moto X and they work just fine.

im returning mine to Motorola, definitely was a disappointment in term of performance. I use (stole) the Apple Earbuds (new version) has a lot better bass than the SOL Ear buds. I'm just trying to find something with similar or better performance that's not going to cost me $100

Zagg smartbuds, Updated, with a review

Zagg just released these new smartbuds ~ zagg /audio/smart-buds.php~, (can't post actual links yet).
some of there specs are
"Compatible with iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS, iPhone 4 and all 3.5mm jacks"
I wonder if there "controls will work with Android or at least Double Twist
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on these things and here is what I think so far
Pros:
noise canceling mic (haven't tested it yet)
extensive cord management
armor covered cords, makes them tough and tangle free, REALLY!
built control works with Mixing app
comfortable
Cons:
a little flat in my opinion, compared to shure SE210 but mixing's equalizer made up for it
volume control is analog, it only controls the volume to the phones, independent to phone volume
Still doesn't have the remote functionality of some iphone head phones
I was really hoping to get a little more out of these. I have to say they a probably have the most feature for android users than any other head phones out there. They have one button and a slider on the "mic" part. The one button works like the one button for the latest shuffle, one click=pause, one click= play, double click=forward track, and triple click=back one track. The volume slide is analog so the range of volume depends on how loud the volume is set on the phone. Overall these are pretty good, I'd say the best for the money. the coating of the wires really does make them pretty tangle free. A good buy for $50, a better buy if you check slick deals for a coupon.
I hope they work well with me EVO
Well I just ordered a set of these as I think they will be perfect for work. Still haven't found what buttons will actually work with the EVO but if I can at least answer and hang up then they'll be way better then the Sony set I just returned. Plus I love the way there designed to wear. I have a set of Shure headphones that you wear like that and they are awesome.
it looks like they dropped the price to $50 on zaggs site. and I was able to get them for $40 with the discount code "ZAGG20"
I'll try and post back how well they work with my EVO when I get them.

Actually it's water mixed with baby oil. plus they come with a multipurpose squidgy q-tip. JK.
I really can't wait for mine to come in. I figured the volume control would be analog although I was hoping for digital. and I never really expected them to sound as good as my Shure se210's but when you consider the price difference and the terrible build quality on Shure's optional Mic (which only lasted 6 months for me tops. Which is the same problem I had for the original Shure extension cable) I'm sure I will be happy with them. I mean considering these have a longer warranty and cost the same as I paid for the Shure Mic alone I won't mind carrying these with me too work and risking damage. and my se210's can stay home by my computer where they belong.

well I just got mine in haven't got a chance to give them a good full test yet.
I have noticed that the button does answer incoming calls although it doesn't end them on my Evo running DamageControl V3.5. Instead it mutes the Mic. This is rather annoying and I hope theres an option somewhere to change that so I can hang up on people with out having to take my phone out.
I also haven't been able to get the previous track by triple pressing the button instead it goes forward a track and then pauses.
I'll give more info after I've had more of a chance to play around with them.
Edit: Ok so I did a little looking and it seems a long press on the button will end the call. So now I'm happy. So when in a call a quick press mutes the mic and a long press ends the call.
You probably couldn't run with these, huh. I need a pair of earphones/headphone that I can run with that has a remote so I can play and pause and skip without having to reach for my phone.

I'm not a runner but I don't see any reason you couldn't run with these. They fit in your ears pretty tight and with the slides you can adjust them so the cable won't tug them out your ear.

Huh never heard of that before. I use to do a little running with my old Sony in-ears and don't remember any such issue. Granted I have very little endurance so I was never running for long. Maybe I'll go to the track in the next few days and give it a try with my shures and zaggs and see if I notice what your talking about.

Well, if that`s the case.. maybe some smaller buds would do the trick? (I saw smaller ones on Zagg`s site).
Please note that I haven`t used any bud-type headphones so I`m only speculating.

Well they do come with different sizes. But the problem with buds is if they don't seal then they don't sound right. Plus they would be more likely to fall out. Although I wonder how well it would work if you used the foam style tips and cut breather grooves. You would probably loose some sound quality if it worked but at least they shouldn't fall out all the time. If I get a chance to go to the track in the next couple of days I might try a few things but between rain and drama I haven't gotten over there yet.

Headphones for music.

I was just wondering what the people here at xda reccomended for headphones. Im a mechanic and I love listening to my music at work while im tinkering around inside of a car. I prefer ear buds because of the portability. Any reccomendations for great sounding earbuds that wont destroy my bank account?

I know everyone is all over Beats by Dre but to me they are overpriced. If you're tight on loot you can't go wrong with SkullCandy earbuds. I got a pair with a mic at the T-Mobile store for $20. That way I get good sound and I can have phone calls on my EVO too.
Yeah a lot of people have recommended those. I've also heard of the left bud goin out or the speaker blowing in them as well.

Yeah, to be honest, if you are a mechanic, you are probably prone to breaking/cutting the headphone cords. I honestly wouldn't spend more than 20-30 bucks on a pair for this reason at all.
However, if you are really looking for a great pair of earbuds, ANY Sennheiser ones will be great. Specifically, any ones from about 60-130 bucks or so are absolutely great, you would not regret them.
Well I'm pretty careful about the cords. I run the cord up underneath my shirt so its not exposed. My main concerns were price and durability. And possibly submersibility. (I know its not a word) lol. I get covered in trans fluid, oil, coolant, etc etc. On a daily basis.

skullcandy fmj
Koss PortaPros. You can't beat the price for that kind of sound quality. As long as you don't mind over the head headphones. If you're an earbud person, SkullCandy's are nice, but with their cheaper ones
,the left bud really does go out a lot. The JVC marshmallows are decent for ten bucks. Seinheisers are great. V Moda's are good for both sound and build quality, but are a bit over priced. Sony's are decent, but are overpriced for the build quality.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Well I have a pair of jvc gummys and they just don't sound right to me. I can't quite explain it. It may be the frequency they are tuned at. But they have a slight tinny, distorted, bass clipping, but decent mids kinda sound to them.
Sent from my Simplistic Synergistic EVO.
Hey there,
Koss Porta Pro.
They can be bought at amazon for about 30 bucks without shipping. MSRP is about 50.
Try them out. I have 2 pairs. =)
I love the sound of the Dre head phones. They're slightly expensive but with the ear buds, the cord is flat and a little thicker. Small plus as the cord won't tangle up in your pocket. They also have a very nice range of sound.
I've never owned Skull Candy, but I have friends who have, and they break on them constantly. A friend bought a rather pricey pair not too long ago and recently one of the headphones stopped working all together.
Ebay has some decent prices on the headphones mentioned above as well. Save some money and order them online.
Sent from my Synergized Evo.
A lot depends on your personal preferences. But if you're the kind of guy who doesn't like canal phones (in ear phones that you push into your ear canal) then Sennheiser MX580 earbuds are really top notch. Great sound for less than $30.00.
I'm a flooring installer and listen to music 24/7 at work. I've been through a few headphones of various brands;Sony, ifrogz, skull candy, jvc. The first thing to go in all of them was the left ear. I traced the problem to the point where the wire meets the jack. When the wire hangs off the side it weakens this point. My solution, that has worked perfectly so far, would be to get an elbow attachment. I found one at radio shack for a few bucks. Also, I've found skull candy to be the best sounding for the price (my opinion).

I have the beats and i love them
i have used the skullcandy ink'd headphones and am on my second pair. they are $10 at just about any walmart and for $10 you get about 6-8months of hard use out of them. at least i do haha i would recommend them because of the price and the fact that they can handle 2.5 poop tons of bass. so if u like bass and are cheap like me get those haha

lol, beyond awful
I use a pair of Panasonic RP-HSC200K as my dedicated gym buds. They're the kind that wrap around your ear so they don't fall out and can resist my gross sweat. They're flexible and can take the abuse of throwing them into my gym bag with my shoes and gear (so far). I like that style because buds like the stock one and iPod ones I have kept popping out my ear when I jog/use the elliptical and get sweaty. They cost $60 and the sound is decent in my opinion. I wasn't looking for audiophile quality considering that I knew they would be abused and soaked in sweat, lol. I didn't want to get something that I would have to worry about.
The mic integration works fine and the button to pause/skip to next song, but the volume controls don't work with my Nexus. They do on iPhone and iPods.

I hear that. I carried these headphones over from when I used to have an iPhone 4 and yeah, it kind of sucks to lose that functionality.
Apparently it's difficult overall to find a pair where both volume up and down work on the in-line controls? Doesn't seem like a lot of models that are iPhone compatible work with Android as well. I dunno. I do have a pair of Skull Candy earbuds as well with mic and volume controls. I'll have to re-test it and see if it works.

If your willing to spend the $100 I HIGHLY recommend the Jaybird Freedom. They are very good. Sweat/water resistant, comfortable, bluetooth, and sound really great especially for blue tooth.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and I now use them more than my cans or Bose wired headset. They have nice all around sound and nice bass and I've honestly never heard blue tooth headset sound so good.
Only two drawbacks I've seen with them are the mic is a little choppy if your talking to someone (Focus on your workout, not talking ), and your going to need to wear an armband if your outside as the signal won't have walls to bounce off and will cut in and out if your phone is in your pocket.
Check them out:
http://www.amazon.com/Jaybird-Freed...8DOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333998241&sr=8-1
Edit: These things are easily worth the $99 price tag on Amazon. Now that I've used them and broke them in, I'd gladly pay $200 for them.

I appreciate everyone's input.
Unfortunately at the moment I can not spend more than I guess 50 to 60 dollars on a pair. A) cause I need to replace my windshield and B) This will be probably only to listen to music while I work out I rarely ever since myself in situations where I am listening to music while I am out and about unless I am driving I would have it plugged into my stereo.
Those Jaybirds looks so legit I wish I could get them. I think I am going to have to get the skull candy one. God I wish they didn't have the ****ty logo. Looks so high schoolish. Ugh I hate that. I probably look like so punk kid that has no respect for their elders lol.

Plantronics BackBeat GO BT earbuds

I've done alot of research on these Plantronics Backbeat GO Bluetooth earbuds and it seems to be a winner imo. I will be using them casually, not for working out so I don't really need those "over the ear" types like Plantronics BB903+: I'd just like to hear it from a fellow XDA'er if they are as good as they read on paper

They are giant monstrosities that stick out of your ear about an inch, they are so "heavy" hanging that far out that they don't make a good seal and are always falling out.
Do your reviews first before wasting any money here.
Thanks for chiming in compusmurf. Any other recommendations? If falling out is a major factor w/ these styles I suppose I can sacrifice a little comfort :/
I've looked and looked and looked and the absolute BEST solution I could find was one of these: Jabra BT3030. Samsung and another company has one.
It's a BT interface that allows you to use your OWN darn headset which you know fits you.
Which is nice because I have custom IEM's fitted for my ears.
However, it's a bit less than completely "wireless".
I have LG tone hbs-700 and i love them. The ear peices are line regular headphones.

Radioshack has them for $99.99, the plus is you can get a warranty for $10.99. Now I hate warranties but for the $11 dollars you pay you can get your money back on a RS gift card within the year of purchase, meaning if the internal battery gives out, or if you simply don’t like them anymore, you can claim the warranty… and if you are do for an upgrade you can use the GC towards that new phone. That’s how I’ve got my last two phones.

I personally would not recommend these headphone for a black person. They have no bass I will be returning mind right now. I when you play music with heavy bass it sounds like you are trapped in a tunnel or something.

No, the no bass effect is related to the horrible fit.
They won't stay in or make a seal.
Plantronics tried, plantronics failed.
Yeah, I am sure. These headphones don't kick much volume.

I really like my Rocketfish bluetooth headset I got from Best Buy. They're only $60, the charge lasts like 12-14 hours, and the sound quality isn't bad at all! They're over the ear, which I like because I wear them when I go lifting at the gym. Sweat hasn't damaged them at all. The only problem I've had with them is there's these strips of rubber inside the frame for "cushioning" that have a tendency to come out over time. You can either rip them out (I've noticed absolutely no difference in comfort) or superglue them back in.

Edit: Looked on Amazon, and they have them for $20-30 cheaper!

You are a white person with soul my brothera.

Looking for a Pair of Earbuds (NOT "In-Ear")

I'm looking for a Pair of Earbuds similar to the white ones that come with the iPhone/iPod Touch. I don't like the "in-ear" ones with the rubber tips that go inside the ear canal. I find them to be uncomfortable and they tend to slip off without much effort. Audio quality is not really a huge issue from me. I mean, I'm no audiophile but I don't want it to sound horrible either. Also, price is not a big concern. The reason why I don't use the iPhone ones is because of the poor build quality. I've searched around but can't find anything I like so I thought I'd ask here thanks in advance!

The default ones from HTC are really nice.
Apple earbuds are sweet, too.
I bought some Sony ear buds with the 'wrap around the ear' position retention device (@ the Buy More, $25). I forget they are there and they don't leave blisters on my inner tragus.

All of the Beats models look like they are in-ear to me. Which model are you looking at?
I'm not too familiar with good quality earbuds, but you should consider that with foam tips, in ear headphones can be very comfortable and stay in place well. The stock silicon ones are usually itchy to me, but the foams are nice and I barely notice my earphones are even in. Extra bonus is added noise isolation.
Just food for thought. Oh, and I'd stay away from all things Beats.

I've tried the foam ones as well but Idk I guess my ear are weird or I'm not putting them in right because they fall off too. The first pair of in-ear earbuds I bought were actually skull candy with foam tips and I haven't liked them since then lol guess I'm just going to have to go with actual headphones.
Any recommendations?

I'm using some Shure's with the Shure black foam "Olives". To fit them in, roll the tip to compress them, then stick the IEM (in ear monitor) in your ear, and hold it for a second. Also, using the kind that runs the cable over the top/back of the ear helps then stay secure.
You might have used a size you small.
Incidentally, Skull Candy never has impressed me either, lol.
www.head-fi.org is the best place to go to research and learn. You might just find the perfect pair of IEMs for cheaper than you think, and then spend a little bit on Shure or Comply foams, and be happy until you realize that even MORE expensive earphones intrigue you.

Skull Candy and Beats are pretty much a waste as you can get much better quality for the same price. If you just want an everyday brand that's worth the cash Sony is great. The ones I have are excellent sound-wise; the only issue with in-ear headphones is that they can lead to a lot of build-up from actually pushing wax back into your ear canal.
That is true. I q-tip my ears daily to eliminate buildup getting into mine.
Also, a little expensive, and I know very little about them, but I did find high quality earbuds fun a respected brand.

I'd have to wear those as jewelry at all times to justify that price.
Lol. I've spent that much in the last year and a half on two pairs of IEMs. Whenever my current ones die, I'm sure I'll spend around $300.

If you are looking at headphones, Sony stereo headphones MDR-ZX100's are great and cheap. I think they're 25$ at Wal Mart
