[Q] Should I sell my S4 and get an HTC One? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I am thinking about selling my S4 and getting the HTC One off eBay. I would like some people's thoughts on the One.
Do you like it? What don't you like about it? How is the cell signal reception? How do you think it compares to the S4? How is the ROM community on here?

Gonna get a lot of bias here. What's making you contemplate switching? And the community here is pretty damn good. Very helpful and haven't seen any douchey arguments for this phones forums at all. Signal is great as it has been for me with Verizon for years. The biggest difference I'd say is the feel of the phone physically and the low light pictures. The screen IMO looks better on the S4 for lack of depth but the one is more vibrant. Other then those its just touch wiz or sense in differences for the most part. Unless you're like me and stick to aosp type builds. Then it really is about the same.

I am thinking about switching because of a number of reasons. I had 3 HTC phones before the S4, so it could be that I am just used to the way HTC does things. For 1, I hate touchwiz. I have CM10.2 on my S4 now. But the camera on CM10.2 is not as good as it is on a touchwiz ROM. From what I have heard (maybe I am wrong) but dev's have been able to port the camera from the GPE ROM's into the AOSP ROMS, is that right? Sense is so much better than touchwiz. I can live just fine with a Sense ROM, but it took me less than a couple of weeks with the S4 before I had CM on it. 2, the signal reception isn't the best. Saturday night, my gf was getting group messages just fine on her iphone 5, while I wasn't getting shii. 3, the phone is fragile. I dropped it this weekend and the glass cracked. I know the same can happen to the One, but the One feels a lot more solid in hand. 4, I hate the blue-ish tint on samsung phone screens. I miss the vibrant white's of a HTC phone.

I had the s4 for a week and ended up switching to the htc one. They are both good phones but the huge thing for me was the software. Touchwiz to me just seemed bogged down with extras I didn't need and to me sense has all the software features I want and is a bit more attractive imo. Plus the added bonuses like the good external speakers with beats audio and the metal body of the phone are really good in my opinion. The only thing I wish the htc one had was a bit larger/wider screen like that of the s4 and the button layout is a bit better on the s4 imo but I'm glad I switched! As far as your concerns go I've always had a really good experience with signal on this phone and the development is pretty good, I feel there could be more eventually but for now there's definitely a good amount of good work being done!

Who would want an S-4 when they could have a one.

I have SG Note 2 and HTC one. HTC one is the one I use the most just because I love the way it feels, sense is much more responsive and signal is definitely better. I even compared both: I ran speed test on both, htc always has a couple of mb more of the download speed and a good FEW of upload speed, but keep in mind i'm comparing Note 2, not the s4.
Don't expect ONE's camera to be very good because it's simply not. My friend's S4 shoots much better pictures. When it comes to community and Devs, oh my goodness, we have bad*ss devs! We have some 4.3 android with sense 5.5 and I must say devs done very good job (i'm running EclipticOne by Hawk and it is smooth, fast and battery friendly). Just my 2 cents

Not doubting you've checked the camera but I would suggest using an app called camera awesome to really compare them. The app makes controlling the quality much better. And will improve on both to be honest. But I also have to disagree a bit as the stock cameras both have their strong suits. The one takes better low light and the s4 has better HDR. But they both balance out with that app. But the feel of the one is unbeatable to me. It was what made the decision ultimately

Just do it you won't regret it.

Owning both phones currently, and as much as I did enjoy my stay on the SG3 and SG4, the build quality of the HTC One compared to Samsung is ridiculous, and we have root AND S-OFF, meaning we are set, this is a great community, and I look forward to what 4.3 brings.

After being on the gs3 then gs4 since release switching to HTC one has been some getting use to. I keep hitting volume to power the screen and keep looking for the home button. Overall the HTC one feels to be of much better build. Both the gs4 and HTC one I had rooted and all that fun stuff asap. If I had to choose right now I would stick with the HTC one but the gs4 has much more dev support from what I can tell so far.(been on HTC one less than a week) both phones are on 4.4 gummy and are pretty much on par with each other so far.

I had a thread just like this trust me I don't regret the switch one second. Only hard thing to get used to is having a phone that feels like its worth 200 + dollars such a nice change! Any questions about how I like my one better feel free to ask, I just got my one a week ago

SG4 started out pretty hot, then the bootloader couldnt be cracked so it slowed down a bit,
with htc one and being s-off we dont ever have to worry about losing root.
on the sg4 all you can do it root, no more flashing roms (unless they break open bootloader)
so this phone will actually see much more development due in large thanks to Sonic for this clip and beaups for the software unlock

Really the only downfall of the one is the camera. There is a great possibly of getting the purple haze in low light as many of us have. If you get it then it's simply just call HTC abd listen to their lies of software issues abd will be fixed with the 4.3 update which is a lie as gsm version of the one has 4.3 and it still hasn't fixed it. It's hardware issue and tell them you want it fixed and they will allow you to send in the phone. If you wonder what the purple haze is here is an example.
Other than that it's a great phone and we may not have as many roms as our gsm counterparts but the ones we have are top quality. Don't think you will be disappointed with the one.

More questions for HTC One users
I am saving up to replace my S4 and the HTC One is my current target. My current questions are:
1. Can a future update block S-Off(or block downgrading to a version that can S-Off)?
2. Is the phone stable while on S-Off? Can you receive updates from HTC while s-off?
3. Any major setbacks to running custom roms right now(ie stability)?
4. Is it possible to factory reset the phone to how HTC would ship it? Can we turn S-off back to S-On?
5. Finally the clincher - I live in a low signal area and custom roms always seem to hold signal worse than official roms. How's data reliability on custom roms?
Sorry to bother with sooo many questions, but since I suspect most of you are big htc one advocates, I'm sure someone would enjoy answering. I really want this phone and I'm aware of its limitations (like camera resolution) and other things reviews have noted. I'm just checking to see if there's any setback that might blindside me after I put my money down.
Thanks!

1. Yes. More than likely the 4.3 update will block the s-off method we currently use. Although, if you s-off when you get the device, you don't have to worry about updates.
2. Just as stable as untampered, and you can receive updates, but its better to just use ROMs our devs put out
3. Most of the custom ROMs available now are rock solid. I'm currently running KitKat with Sense. Not a hiccup
4. Yes, you can go back to s-on
5. I've not had any issues with data. The only ones that might affect data would be AOSP ROMs as the RIL is reverse engineered and isn't quite as good as the closed-source one we get officially in sense. However, it's not too noticeable from what I understand.

On the rooting the gs4 are you talking about the latest or most updated ones? Luckily I haven't ran into this issue as mine was rooted rom'd from long ago.

I owned both, ended up selling my S4 because owning 2 phones was dumb. Both are great phones and have different pros. I kept the One because of the hardware and feels better in the hand. I do miss the camera on the S4, and the 5 inch screen is nice, just not when your on the go... Development was slowing down on the S4 because of the OTA updates and growing here because we achieved s-off. Not sure if this helps...

ROM Community is awesome sauce on this phone.
As far as should you sell your S4 for the One... Yes. Wait! No. Okay yes. Wait... N-yes
In all seriousness the phone is amazing. There's only one thing I don't like about it and that's no SD card slot. That sucks. Signal reception is going to be entirely dependent on where you are just like every other phone on the planet. Since you have VZW you should get the same signal strength. I haven't noticed much difference either way from my old S3 or iPhone. I can't speak to the quality of the S4 as I've never owned one but it was a marginal upgrade from the S3 if I were to judge based off of reviews I've read. I love the device. Hands down the best android device I've ever owned.

Yep. Sure do. Once on .15 you can't go back down to .10. I had the same question awhile back and one of the devs informed me that's the case.

UPDATE: So I ordered a HTC One off of Ebay Tuesday night. It should be coming in tomorrow. Luckily for me, the previous owner had already rooted and s-off'ed (idk if thats a word) the phone. I am excited. It's crazy seeing how many people have done the same thing I am doing now. Thanks for all the replies.

leaving sensation for SGS2. need input

ok ive never liked samsung phones before till i got to play with this beast in the tmo store the other day ,ive already orderded mine and will be getting it in a few days.ive always i guess you could call it "hating" on samsung because i thought their build quality was poor and they tried to be too much like iphone. Well that was then and this is now.The sgs2 won me over instantly when i started playing with it and i even forgot i was looking at a screen with a lower resolution than my sensation because it was so clear and bright. i cant wait to root this thing and install custom roms .ive heard that samsung phones have data issues and reception issues. that didnt seem to be a problem with the demo i got to mess with .any info will be appreciated
that was only with the vibrant, so far that i know! My new sgs2 is fine with all that
I can't wait for root either. Coming from sensation, which is a big phone, this feels humongous. I am sure using different launcher we can utilize the screen size with 5x5 . Love it so far.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
yeah it looks massive. i had an HD2 which also was a little bigger than my sensation screen .i guess i just missed a big ol' screen to look at.I played som HD videos on both phones right next to each other and i really could not tell a difference aside from the samsung looked a little brighter. The camera on my sensation was probably a little better but i had the Amaze camera on it and its pretty good, but the camera on the S2 looked great as well so no loss there.Phone was snappy as hell and for people who judge by quadrants i was getting over 3300 on the Demo ,any how thanks for the replies
Like many people I've been eyeing the SGSII since last winter. I wanted it more than the Sensation. It just took the phone too long to drop here. I used a family upgrade on the Sensation in June and fell in love with it. The Sensation ruined me for this phone. I checked out the SGSII today and the 800 x 480 screen is a no-go for me. It's a personal thing for me as I like very tiny text on the screen and it is much easier to read on my Sensation. Plus there is a ton of ROM development for the Sensation. That and I'm perversely attracted to the feel on the Sensation.
The next family upgrade might still be with Sammy though as I'll be eyeing the Prime and even more resolution.
Other than that the SGSII is a beast internally. TouchWiz is lame IMHO but ROMs should fix that problem soon enough. I do like the phone a lot and don't want to say the Sensation is better, I just like it better. I had the wife try out the SGSII to see if she wanted one, but she just aggravated me. I tried to explain to her what a beast of a phone it is, but it was lost on her non-technical mind. That and she knew if she got it, I would be f'ing with it all the time.
Alas Sammy you guys took too long (probably US carrier's fault) and released this badboy here right before you drop the Prime? The delay cost you possible HTC converts (like me) and maybe Sammy fans with the Prime so close.
Is it just me thinking that way?
Sorry if I sound negative against the SGSII, the phone rocks so that's not my intent.
I can't stand vanilla android or small text, so no.
no offense here. main reason i got rid of my sensation is the damn dust under the screen issue . i dont know if i just hit a homerun in the bad luck dept. or what but i sent the phone back 4 times and the last return they sent me had the problem worse than any that i had. It didnt bother me at first but i just couldnt see paying that much for a phone with a repetitive defect so i decided to give samsung a try

I've gone through about 6 of them because of the same issue. The last one I got finally doesn't have any dust but the wifi keeps dropping no matter what rom I use

Just out of curiosity. Has there ever been reports from older samsung phones that had dust in the screen issues?
I have a plug that I use for my aux 3.5mm but if I don't have to use it, then I rather not.
I do not know why HTC phones are so sluggish, although I love sense over everything else samsung or LG has to offer. But I will have to say, S2 is def a great pick. I got mine 2 hours ago and I was playing with it at work. Managed to do this -
now obviously its not rooted or overclocked. But getting a 3800 on quadrant on a snapdragon chip is pretty cool.
Thought i'd share it with people who are trying to make a choice between amaze and s2 like I was

very very few compared to HTC
i have old HTC phones, and yes i do have lots of dust underneath the screen.
but in my case it's probably due the fact the phone shell cracked after too many falls
reason why plastic works better in that kind of scenario, at least it doesn't crack open like the aluminum body
Also, Samsung fuses their screens to the digitizer so there is no space for dust to get trapped in. That's also the reason why their screen seem so bright

Very good to know and hear, Thanks guys.
I cant wait to get home and get mine. i work offshore so i wont be able to mess with it until the 26th when i get home. Dont get me wrong i liked my sensation and with custom roms and over clock i achieved over 3000 on quadrants with a sense rom, but that was over clocked at 1.78ghz and honestly it just isnt safe. seems this phone has that speed and more already stock cant wait to see where development goes for it. And honestly the stock sensation Rom was crap and it seemed like they just crammed it in the phone without any testing
Yeah I had a sensation and eventually got over it. I am not a big overclocked/root/mod person but I'd hand it to samsung for making snapdragon s3 somewhat capable in front of tegra, omap and exynos.

It's their damn Sense that makes it sluggish. Such a resource hog. Funny how ROM developers working for no money make Sense run very well but HTC cannot. My Sensation with stock Sense was sorta "meh" but with optimized Sense ROMs it's amazing. Personally I prefer MiUi though.

Awesome This is excellent.............
SGS2 vs Sensation
Hey tmobile brahs!
I've had my Vibrant for a good year and a half now, and have been long waiting an awesome 4g phone. For the most part, I've simply been waiting on the SG2, but only recently found out that we had another solid option, the Sensation.
I'm currently reading up reviews on both, but i figured I might as well ask you guys, since most of you I'm assuming already have the phone, and had made the decision over the Sensation for a reason/s.
According to my friend, they're both nearly identical, except the GS2 having a slightly better screen. My only worry with the GS2 is, coming from the Vibrant, Samsung not releasing drivers and all that stuff, making GPS for example damn near impossible to perfect with the latest roms (post froyo). Never had an HTC so can't speak on them as a brand.
Thanks guys!

Thinking of jumping ship?

So, had the One X since release date, always had HTC before this. But after having all the issues that have been described here on xda, I spoke to my network (3 uk) and they have said that so long as its within 28 days of the 4/4/12 that they will either replace it for a new one or any other model that they stock.
Now, I'm a flashaholic. I do not want to use the HTC unlock method, always relied on the very clever peeps here for "alternative" ways of s-off. But as it seems the biggest team of Revolutionary aren't working on the One X. I'm considering leaving the HTC brand and moving to the Galaxy Note?
Have any of you guys left the note to come here? It looks the part on paper at least?
Anyone else from 3 UK willing to take the plunge if the offer was sat there?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I think you shouldn't switch to the Note...
Sooner or later there will be a S-OFF tool.
The NOte is IMO too big, but that's your decision. The other reasons why I dodn't get the note:
- DPI is not as high
- the PenTile thing, this means the display has 33% red and blue subpixels. some people don't notice, but I do: there's not a single straight line. it appears as if every other row of pixels was shifted by 0.5 pixels; I just can't stand it.
I highly recommend you to check if that's a problem for you before getting it. Just saying
P.S: Even though the One X isn't perfect, it's the phone the closest to perfect I ever had.
Iff i waz you id go for Gnexus over note the note is ridiculously big my sister has it as a work phone
Mod or Die
see the thing is i am on Three UK as well. and i had the choice for my two replacements i had so far to go for a different handset. and both times i got close going for the gnexus. now all this hype about quadcore for me i am sorry i really did not notice it so far with the HTC one x...yeah apps load faster than ever but 50% of the apps stuck in loading phase...anyways still a great phone i say and i am more than likely to stick with it because i am really liking stock Sense now
but i do miss overclocking and undervolting and also using an AOKP rom...tough decisions to make one thing i do hate about this phone is though why HTC locked the bootloader..why not just unlock it..
Note no way man stay clear of that huge thing..no no no
Hmmmm? Thanks for the replies folks. As for the size issue (that's what she said!) Im not thay concerned, saying that I've never held one! But I currently have a Advent Vega, that if the Note could replace might be a good thing? Kinda streamline my tech, save me carrying 2 devices?
But aswell as a flashaholic, I'm a sucker for POWER! 1.5ghz quad core vs 1.4ghz dual core? I feel in a real dilemma, I love HTC, always have, but the ONE X has, so far, let me down.
@Dobbi, I will look into the red/blue pixel issue, I have now been spoilt by the quality of the one x screen! It is nice.

all honesty mate...it is like cameras..more megapixels does not mean you are going to get better picture. same with the quadcores..so far i would say and yes i know i might get flamed for this my s2 dual core felt bit more snappier at times compare to the one x. so if you are really a flashaholic then maybe the phone to go for is the gnexus...the development for that phone is crazy...but at this moment of time i still will go as to say i will stick with the one x..this must be the longest time i gone without flashing
In all honesty too........my Sensation felt better than my One X.
Please don't go mad at me people. I not a massive sense fan, so that was always the first thing that went once s-off was achieved and all the roms about seem to be sense based or desensed. Not AOSP. I respect all our Devs massively and I am not clever enough or do I have time enough to even begin to learn how to build roms from the ground up using AOSP. But even the sensation was lacking in these roms.
Oh man. I may have to have a long hard think about if I'm ready to leave HTC.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Note is excellent don't let anyone put you off it, I've played with it many times and the size is a sweet spot. I've had the S2 before the HOX and don't find the HOX that much of a jump in size. It's nice the 4.7" but the 5.3" of the note gives you some more real estate.
You get use to the size after a while.
I'm holding ship with the HOX for the time being the only phone that can sway me away will be the SGS3 only if it excels the HOX but for me it'll be down to the software side and not hardware. Sense > TouchWiz.
I'm in a similar situation only that I've not ordered my HOX yet and I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus. My biggest issue is to be frank all the problems you guys seem to be having with the htc , i dont care what people say you should NOT be having these sort of issues with a final retail handset. I jumped to samsung with the galaxy s2 after years of htc handset (android & wm) and looking back I'm glad I did. How can anyone defend this locked bootloader policy? seems like the days of simply plugging the phone in and flashing straight from the box are gone for htc which brings me onto samsung.... everything is geared towards flashing there phones, hell Ive even got a £2 clip which unbricks your samsung should anything go wrong With all that said I always a space in my heart for htc just a shame this whole mess may have put me off this time round.
Come next week when I can upgrade I'm 90% sure I'll order the samsung note partly for the reasons above and partly because it is such a sweet device despite the PenTile display which is not noticeable, trust me
oh and dont go for the gnexus if you use any games what so ever the gpu is crap and the main reason I switching (missing my psx gaming fun)

No way mate ..... dont get me wrong the nexus is very nice and there's more custom roms than you can shake a stick at but the camera is well.... **** and the gpu is shameful I found games really struggle to the point i dont bother now as much pity really .........
I game on my gnex and it doesnt lag??? And the camera is decent aswell especialy video www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePfy25sS0Yo&feature=player_embedded
And at the min gaming on the ox isnt awesome YET just see the genral section thread created already
Best thing to do is go to a shop and test the devices and decide.
Mod or Die
well i am sticking with my htc one x for now...the more i hold it the more i am falling in love with it....it was the same when i had my galaxy s2..was scared to root it in the start but once it was done i could not stop flashing..same with the HOX. once i get my grey replacement that would be it for me...hate it or love it this phone does grow on you and no matter what flaws i still would recommend it

What about GTA for starters? Id say anything thats abit better than the norm and your screwed :/
Right. I'm going to go into the 3 store to play with a galaxy note, along side my One X and compare them in real life usage tomorrow.
Real life usage, not stats on paper, not benchmarks, just what feels best. C'mon HTC don't fail me after 4 years of brand dedication.
Report back tomorrow peeps.

Let me know how that goes. If my One X replacement still has issues I might swap for a Note too.
I've used both nexus and note. Of the two the note is far better. After a day, the size is no issue. Plus the screen looks great, battery from what I've seen is good, but there is noticeable scrolling lag when compared to the one x.
That being said, the slight lag is not bad enough to deter someone. My dad loves his note

Need help to decide: Galaxy Note or HTC One X

Hi guys,
I really need your help to decide on whether or not I should trade my Galaxy Note for the HTC One X. I currently have the international version of the Note but since last week I have been hating it for the following reasons:
1) I installed ICS update on it and it's really garbage. The Touchwiz skin really makes ICS update not apparent at all.
2) Buggy official ROM. As you might be aware, there is a currently superbrick bug on the Galaxy Note even for official ROM. The phone will be bricked permanently after a wipe in CWM. The one to be blamed for this is of course Samsung.
Because of these bad supports, I am kinda leaning toward trading in my Notes for the One X. However, I heard some bad points about the One X too such as bad battery life, bad multitasking (especially since last update) and being too hot and got throttled down.
Can you guys share your opinions on this ? I tried the One X out at the store and I quite like the feels of holding the One X. Just try to look for some advice before I decide.
Thanks and cheers for your help,
Well I traded my note for a one x and I'm so glad I did while I was impressed by the note the one x is such a beautiful phone
Yes the battery life isn't as great but what phone these days has a battery that will last forever lol
Nevertheless HTC are bringing updates out quite frequently so I expect this phone to improve in areas that people are complaining about I haven't had any problems so can't comment

HTC One X why pay $200 extra for basically the same thing that next year will be out of date anyways. Plus the One X rocks! Use the search their are plenty of comparisons.
I have both Galaxy Note and One X I love the One X display compared to the note it really is an amazing looking screen the apps and widgets just sit on top like their floating on water and phones all around design is killer. Everyone that has saw it has been amazed. I can't see paying an extra $200 for the GS3, I just don't see much of a difference yeah the GS3 will probably beat the One X in benchmarks but not by that much that you are really going to be able to tell during everyday use.
The one X has handled everything I've thrown at it so far. and by the time it wont be able to run an app or game it will be time to upgrade anyways.
Its personal preference pay $200 more for the s3 or buy the One X and be happy with a phone that is amazing. 32GB with 25GB dropbox is enough for me I remember trying to fill 16GBs and it was hard and if I need to I can move things back and forth from my computer with a simple USB cord.

LOL, I was asking about the Note ha ha but thanks anyway. I currently have the Note and wondering if I should go HTC One X next. I am sick of how irresponsible Samsung are. The Note will be my last Samsung phone.
Hello
I too came from a note for a one x.
The beauty of the one x is far superior, over the years HTC have worked hard on presentation among other things, samsungs stock, im an oversized iphone look hasnt changed in years.
When it comes too stability browsing, the Note beats the HTC into submission im afraid, but this is because it runs a solid and stable GB os, far superior to the crappy versions of ics we run on the htc, and before anyone jumps in screaming ICS rocks, wake up, if you think ICS is bug free and the finished article then youre clearly not seeing the facts. GB is more stable, but there again, its been around a lot longer, i expect ics will be just as good when it is the polished article.
The note was way too clumsy as a phone, one of the reasons i gave up on it, the one x is much nicer in every design way possible, plus the one x has superior power over the note, and i wouldnt worry about battery, i get a day from my one x, thats no different to what my note gave me.
The main reason i left the note was because the custom development side of the note forum on here became a massive issue for me, too many releases were responsible for bricking peoples Notes beyond repair, it became unsafe to flash custom software from over there, not that im blaming anyone, great group of lads, but the minute that happened i lost all faith.
The development just became a Miui thread in the end practically, it was time to move on, ive had a htc before and i know on here, some of the developers and cooks have a very very good reputation, one of the reasons i chose HTC because i know when these lads finally get to grips with the s-on problem there will be no end to the development, and the note hasnt even had official ics yet, what a joke, i think with android 5.0 around the corner, the future of htc and one x is safe on this forum, youll get updates a lot faster than on samsung.
Horses for courses my friend, it is your choice, but i agree with toonarmy, HTC ONE X, bring it on, it can only get better from here on.
Read my post on the guys thread who was asking GSIII or One X Rom support
Thanks for your informative post. That's true though. I have the Galaxy S, S2 and now the Note and I feel they are pretty much the same. The Touchwiz skin turns out to be worse than I initially thought. To make it worse, they cover ICS native skin with this fugly skin and make it so fugly beyond repairs.
To top it off, because of the superbrick bug, I am so scared to flash any official ROM and to even update my device to official ICS ROM. This really killed the whole purpose of getting an Android phone, which is to do whatever you like with it.
Beside, I did some wipes when I was in ICS and according to the guys in the Galaxy Note forum, my eMMC might have been damaged. I really don't want to deal with all the warranty repair hassle so it might be the right time for me to get rid of my Note.

One thing i hate about Samsung, touchwiz 3 at sgs1 and they didn't update it to touchwiz 4, unlike dhd which one got updated from 2.0 to 3.6 and possibly even to 4.0. Samsung sucks at updates.

I was thinking about buying one X too but reading this forum indicates so many problem with quality built. I just sit out for now because if I buy iy, it will be from Ebay or Amazon (live in US) and very difficult with warranty and stuff.
Take the One X and you won`t be sorry. I had the Note and i didn`t use the whole pen utility`s (notes and drawings). I just loved the big screen and the powerfull cpu. But the amount of pixels slowed it down quite heavily in performance.
The One X seems snappier and more direct imo.

My bad I'm so used to post saying should i get SG3 or One X, man that drives me crazy.... They both are good in their own rights. But anyways once again my bad just a little jumpy with all the SG3 or One X post I see. People need to search and their are already hundreds.................X10 SG3 or One X post.
I should have added some useful info since I own both. Here is how I see it the Note is a good PDA IMO. Its just doesn't have the feel of a phone to me, its not really good to carry around for everyday use. Its nice size screen for certain things I use mine like a tablet basically. I just needed something I could carry in my pocket and the note just didn't really fit right, I don't really like touch-wiz it feels like you are still on gingerbread, the way its designed. The display kills it when trying to watch a video it shows artifacts in the blacks, like really old .AVI videos. Thats just my personal opinion.
I think, htc one x. Sound is good, lighter and more compact than note.

My friend has the note, and I did a quick comparison with my one X.
The one X is super smooth scrolling between homescreens etc, wheras there is a noticeable lag on the note, in nearly everything.
The screen is good on the note, but the one X is so much better, in both colour reproduction and of course pixel density
And the one X is really nice to hold and use on an everyday basis, whereas the note is unwieldy and too shiny, so really slippery in hand
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
For me it's simples, build and feel quality. Samsung consistently produce sub-par products in the quality of materials department........and that's being kind.
HTC have always produced premium feeling hardware and the HOX is no exception.
Note or One X
Had my HTC one X for a week now and very happy with it. Previously had a Galaxy S and wasn't impressed with the Touch Wiz interface so that put me off the Note as did the size ,thought 5.3 inch was a little OTT.
Very happy with it so far. The stock Rom runs very smooth even with the Vodafone clutter installed. If it carries on as it is now i wont even look at custom ROM as there will be no point.
Only downer is the battery but as pointed out by someone earlier that's the deal with a smartphone . I charge once a day and although i would like it to last longer i can cope. Think those of us who have had a few smartfones now accept we have to manage the battery ourselves so if im at work and not using it i turn to 2g, brightness down and turn off auto sync and i can get from 9-6 with 91% left then i can go mad with all the bells and whistles on when im out and about with worry. Seems like a hassle altering the settings for different situations but it only takes 20 seconds in reality with a few well places shortcuts.
Love the feel as well, very hard to let slip in the hand unless some more plastic y phones.
Now I think HTC one x quality is perfect rather than the first batch of phones.. I got the first batch also with flaws but HTC swapped it with a perfect one.. ht24 serial rather than ht23.. by the way, I held the note side by side to my one x and the camera and screen of the one x is much superior than the note IMHO.. the guys posted before is right same old style, feel and interface with galaxy series nothing new just the size rather than sense UI..

I could add that HTC One X has a super nice GPS - takes about 4s to get signal in buildings - that's just ridicules
I traded my Note for this bad boy. Well worth it my friend
Sent from my HTC One X
I have both and I like both.
I prefer One X cause it's more portable and has clearly a better screen. GNote has the advantage (while One X doesn't get S-OFF) of allowing to install custom roms without voiding warranty and of the bigger screen, which really makes a difference for e-reading.
I have both and I have ended up using the One X more. There are things that I really love about the note, but the updates and ICS on it are a let down. I for one really like sense and have since win mo days. To each his own

HOX or SGS3?

Hi, I'm looking for a new device, my SGS i9003 its old, and forgived for samsung, no updates or new Android system, stuck at 2.3.6, my question is, what of these two I choose? Is htc bad on updates? (samsung its) It's easy to flash sw on it?
Thanks.

HTC is pretty good on updates they released one of the first ICS updates for some of their phones. The only way to flash new software at the moment is by unlocking the boot loader. This voids your warranty with HTC. But id go into a shop and use both see which you prefer.
I've seen lots of YouTube comparisons and I don't see any remarcable difference. I'm bored of samsung and his development team...

Flashing is better and easier on the Samsung IMHO
Performance is better on the Samsung although you'd struggle to tell during normal use and gaming
The screen is great indoors on the Samsung
The screen on the HTC is much, much better outdoors
The radio is much better on the HTC for both calls and Bluetooth
You can't have additional sd card storage on the HTC which is pretty lame
It's really a matter of preference but as I need the brighter screen and a good radio I have my Samsung away and kept the HTC.

oh damn another this kind of thread in HOX forum~~ which is, HOX is the way to go mate...
ok back to serious mode, HTC does update better. Full stop. Be it late or not, they'll update it anyway. but still no guarantee. if they dont. you're f***ed... well at least in 2 years maybe HTC will ditch this device. so you're good. other than that, unlock, root and slap a custom rom with latest update.
better off with a nexus.
Then head to htc one x. Sorry if I'm repeating questions. And thanks

I chose the one x. Now I'm going to try to be as unbiased as possible and givyou my thoughts. Having used both devices.
One X pros:
-Excellent stand by time
-Sense in my opinion is pretty
-after having used this display I must say the amoled screen feels kind of dim
stock browser reflow is awesome
Cons:
stock may be pretty but that comes with a price: lagg on a quad
Stock browser could use some improvement(apart from reflow)
Stupid warranty voiding by unlocking boot loader
I feel like the screen gets scratched easily. I have scratches popping out of nowhere despite using a sock. This is the most disappointing to me.(I read it is the oleophobic coating being scratched, nevertheless, utter bull crap, I would suggest you really invest in a screen protector. This is my first HTC phone and I must say I am not really satisfied , I'm saying this cause when I bought the quad i had the mindset: "Cool, won't have to flash custom roms cause this baby will definitely destroy everything." In fact, it was the compete opposite, after a month of use i decided to slap a rom onto it. That's when you really notice: "god is sense one piece of laggy ****"
Sgs3:
UI looks like crap but at least it is not laggy or a lot less laggy ( A LOT).
appearence is not as pretty as the one x but at least the battery life is better.
Probably more development if you decide to root thus having more ROMs and maybe even better ones.
Ics 4.0.4 out of the box. As I said, this is my first HTC phone and despite many saying HTC is good when it comes to updates I have yet to see that.
It seems like I may have a grudge at htc , but I still don't regret buying it despite this ****ty device I own , that even comes with wlan issue feature. You have to manually apply pressure to the back of the phone somewhere near the camera. Making browsing while trying to stabilize the wlan for faster internet speed a GREAT experience.
They should really be thankful their screen is top notch, this is the main thing that has got me sold.
Just my thoughts. Hardware wise I would say both are quite similar. What one company decides to make out of a powerhouse is another story

I dont like the screen made by samsung, the amoled. So i choosed HOX.
Owning both, I am using hox as my daily driver.
Hox, only con is battery life. As far as external sd is concerned, i have most of my pics (9,000) odd on picasa and drop box. Only thing i have placed on the inbuilt memory is music and some picture albums.
Pros: the mail program which is light years ahead of anything on android.
Social integration of contacts.
The drop dead gorgeous screen.
Radio and signal strength is infinitely superior to sgs3.
I just like the way sense integrates everything.
Sgs3 really nice phone but the screen is just painful. Hate the inbuilt email program, dialer and contact management. Touchwiz is too cartoon like. You really need to flash a custom rom to make use of the sgs3.
If mails, contact integration/management and better out of the box experience is what you want, then go for hox. If you like flashing a bunch of custom roms go for sgs3.
Lastly, I use android, bb, and an ipad since years and the max use on a daily basis is of my hox. That should give an indication of how good this phone and sense is. The mail program of sense blows even the bb one out out of the water.
Just my two cents.

The HOX screen is clearly the best screen available, so if you use your often for multimedia definetly the HOX.
I sold my i9100 before the SGS3 came out so I'd get more for it. I bought the One X always intending to get the i9300 when it was released. I ended up keeping the One X. Here's why...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27663514&postcount=1525
The One X screen is better IMO. I think signal strenght is better too, however I never had any issues with either so it's not really a problem. I have the latest stock firmware on my HOX and battery life is terrible though. That's one thing that appeals more about the S3: not only is the battery replaceable but it's also SO much better. I could easy get 30% more use out of the S3. The fact that the battery is very much NOT user replaceable even as much as the one on the iPhone 4 is is somewhat depressing. It's VERY much embedded.
And that, for me is the killer for the HOX.
On top of that, even if you don't think that Touchwiz is very good, it takes a matter of minutes to root or flash a custom ROM to Samsung devices, and the modding scene has much more life.
So if you don't care that much about battery life and never feel the need to root then the HOX is still a pretty nice phone and I personally love the feel of it but a few design decisions have spoilt it a little.
Oh....and the camera is better on the S3 to my mind, even if the Samsung device doesn't have as wide an aperture. The S3 seems to deal with extremities of dark and light better, and there is less blurring in close-up detail.
Just my thoughts as the owner of both devices.

It's really not that bad. I'm getting about the same battery life I did on my i9100 using the phones the same way. A lot of it is psychological. I had spare batteries for the i9100 (that I used maybe twice in eleven months) so when it was getting near empty I didn't freak out. With the One X when you're done, you're done. I bought a couple of CR-S650 docks so the phones always charging when I'm not using it and I have a high-output auxiliary battery that I originally bought for my tablet. If you top up during the day you should be fine. 3.5 hours of screen-on time over 13 hours is kind of pushing it. The 2.X update that's pending improves battery life and should help you reach your goal. It's too early to say for sure though. If it’s something that you’ll end up obsessing about avoid the grief and save the additional money to get an SGS3. It’s a great phone too and probably a better choice for those that need flexibility with their batteries.

Nexus 5 to the One M8?

Long time lurker as you can tell but this M8 has me quite interested in jumping ship from my Nexus 5. Has anyone made this same jump? Regrets or thoughts? The Nexus 5 is a very bland but solid device, IMO. The One M8 looks pretty much awesome. Thanks for the replies.
Currently have been using the G2, N5, and now M8, the M8 is a great device, something about how it looks and feels makes me want to use it more, but I am also an AOSP fan, both the N5 and One are smooth when it comes to general usage, once AOSP is on my M8 I probably won't carry my N5 around.
I would say why not? The biggest thing you'll gain is far superior battery life. Well you'll get a MicroSD slot too, but that's almost useless unless HTC fixed the writing permissions. Or if you root (which is likely), you can manually fix it.
I decided to go ahead and order the developer version from HTC. The fact that the Nexus 5 is SO stripped of any kind software enhancements is one of the things I dislike about it while I love that theres none of the att bloat. Tried the Note3 but good grief is it huge. And while the stylus is cool I never, ever used it.
Ive had my Nexus rooted with custom rom up until it started rebooting all the time and just put it back to stock. Now the battery life and signal are back to horrible, lol.
Anyway, hoping the dev edition gives me the best of both worlds. Some of the HTC stuff but none of the bloat.

I decided to go ahead and order the developer version from HTC. The fact that the Nexus 5 is SO stripped of any kind software enhancements is one of the things I dislike about it while I love that theres none of the att bloat. Yep! The Moto X is also pretty great, and I've considered cancelling my M8 order for a DE one. I used it in store and it's actually really nice. Probably gonna stick with the M8 because it's so much newer though XD
I think about to switch from my "Nexus 5" to the "HTC One M8", but I'm not sure yet. Is it worth it in your opinion?
It looks really very elegant, but does it runs just as smooth without bucking like the Nexus?
Does anyone have a direct comparison between the two phones?
How about if you start games or apps, is the HTC faster?
It has really nice features, such as with the tap to the screen.
How it looks with the battery power? Does it last as long as the Nexus? Or is it even better?

Depends so much on what do you want from phone. Gf has N5 and I have M8. My battery lasts longer, her device gets faster updates, both have about same kind of camera quality but not in the same way etc etc. If you want a flagship device you get M8 but if you already have N5 I'd wait for the prices to drop or maybe Nexus 6 or some other new model.

I am very happy with my Nexus, but HTC looks very high quality and has a newer processor. But my Nexus is not old, so I do not know if it's worth it at all.
One reason to buy it would be the front speakers and the Unibody

I made the move from the Nexus 5 to the M8 and I can tell you without a doubt that the experience on the M8 is greatly superior to the Nexus 5. I used to love the bare-bone nature of the Nexus/GPe device but since using this new M8 with the new Sense 6 I have been converted to the HTC way of using android.
Also the build quality and feel of the device on its own just did it for me. The Nexus 5 has been a great device for the last 6 months but it is no comparison for the way the M8 looks and feels. I'm usually the first in my circle of friends and family to get a new phone and since my purchase of the M8 on launch day I can assure you that everyone has been admiring my M8 with envy (this includes all the Apple lovers).
The camera on the M8 is brilliant to mess about with and the user interface is extremely well thought out compared to the stock android interface. BUT I can confirm that in reality the camera quality is not even on par with the Nexus 5 never mind the S4 that my other half uses. I am a photography enthusiast and own loads of DSLR's and can inform you this with some expert knowledge.
Now the battery life on the M8 just blows the Nexus 5 to pieces. I can easily go full day and half of M8 use, this is in comparison to me only getting 3/4 of a day from the Nexus 5.
In conclusion my Nexus 5 has hardly seen use since the day I got the M8 and will soon be finding a new home with one of my friends. My advice would be to upgrade and you will not be dissapointed.
