[Q] Stuck at white AT&T load screen after trying to restore nandroid backup. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I rooted my SG3, SGH-I747 last night. Took a bit of looking as I recently updated to 4.3 OTA which made the process more difficult than I remember in the past on this phone, but got it done. I then found a ROM to flash, but flash failed. Before flashing, I did take a nandroid backup using TWRP, but after attempting restore with it, on boot up it gets through the samsung logo and then just sits at the AT&T load screen. I have tried to go in and perform factory reset (wiping cache, dalvik and system), but nothing is working. I then downloaded 4.1.1 stock firmware for this device to flash via ODIN but I get a FAIL, and same result, stuck at AT&T screen. Did I brick my phone?????
Please Help!

You cannot downgrade after 4.3 flash stock 4.3 to repair

After it says pass remove the battery for 10 sec and then reboot..

Okay so I installed the stock 4.3 firmware, and it seemed that it was going to reboot, but does NOT boot up AT ALL.
Dammit.
Anything else I might be doing wrong?

Do not flash anything from sammobile because you're on AT&T and they don't have the 4.3 files there. You already updated to 4.3 if you do happen to successfully flash something older through Odin you will have a paperweight for a phone.
Try to do a factory reset. And 4.3 takes a really long time to boot after a factory reset or fresh flash. You will think it is stuck just plug it in to the charger and come back in 10 minutes so you can not be impatient. Let it do its thing. When I Say a long time the last time (yesterday) I flashed a Rom (stock by loserskater) it took 4 minutes and 22 seconds to boot(I timed it had nothing better to do after hard bricking the phone for the third time in a week)

Follow up on the issue.
Just so this thread didn't just stop, I wanted to give an update on my situation. Ended up hard tricking my phone and sent it off to get pba replaced. Should be getting it back soon, 70 dollars later.

Just happened
I tried to flash a new mod'd touchwiz launcher and tried to restore from a nandroid backup of dandroid.
After restoring stuck on boot logo.
Tried to wipe and restore again to no avail.
I put the rom back on the sd card and re-flashed and is up and working fine.
You might wanna try this (with your chosen rom).

Stuck Unrooting SGS3 SGH-T999

Bad news, everyone! I have an SGH-T999 that I rooted using hxxp://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/
Now I am trying to unroot it using hxxp://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/ so I can get the TMo OTA JellyBean update.
The phone is in download mode but Odin3 v1.85 is stuck at recovery.img and nothing has happened for 10 minutes. I verified the files all matched their published checksums and followed the steps exactly in the rooting and unrooting processes. How do I get out of this without bricking my phone?
Have you tried doing a battery pull and rebooting your phone in download mode?
DONT PULL OUT THE BATTERY, YOU CAN BRICK IT! Hold the power button for 10 sec. And it will safely get you out of download mode. Redownload the files again and try the unroot process all over again.

Thanks for the replies -- I was able to escape download mode by holding the power button. I booted to CWM with Up Vol, Home, and Power, and did a reset which got me back to factory. However, CWM still causes a failure when trying to process the OTA update? Where do I go from here to install the OTA update from TMo?
You have to install using odin.

I tried the unroot process using Odin -- same process as in the first post -- on my other computer and it fails even earlier at writing boot.img. No idea what to do at this point. Is there a way to remove CWM and replace it with whatever was there before?
Try using mobile odin to revert to stock if your having problems. Flash the stock firmware and itll revery you to stock including recovery I believe.

Thanks, I got Mobile Odin and was able to flash the SGH-T999 ROM from stockroms.net. Stupidly, I thought the JB update from TMo was already being pushed OTA since there was a big update from them that kept failing. Apparently, I was wrong. Guess I will try flashing the leaked ROM, though there is speculation the official release will be pushed in the coming week. Thanks again for the help everyone.

Hey guys,
I've been flashing ROMS for years and this is my first real issue.
I tried to upgrade from an earlier version of CM10 to the newest one. After I flashed GAPPS this caused the phone to get stuck on reboot so I went back to CWM recovery.
ALL MY DOWNLOADED FILES WERE GONE IN CWM. Including all the roms I had, and my NANDROID backup (which I would have just reflashed right there).
I tried to Odin back to stock and it passes but gets stuck on the Samsung boot logo every time.
I've tried to scour threads on XDA and on Google. The closest thing I found was a thread where it mentioned I'd need Tmobile Bootchain commands but I can't find those either.
All help is greatly appreciated.
Have you tried to Odin using a different computer.. or redownload Odin and the files needed
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Odin the stock firmware you mean from a different comp? I don't think that is the issue since Odin shows that the flash was successful. The phone reboots itself and it gets passed the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen to the Tmobile Android 4g boot animation.
Additionally, people in the Verizon S3 forum are describing my issue exactly here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030)

I can't get into stock recovery man, or any kind of recovery.Holding vol up + home + power hangs permanently after the SGS 3 boot screen, nothing happens.
Go to Doc's stickie and I think it is in the 2nd post, there is an Odin flashable version of TWRP (maybe a copy of CWR but since I don't use it I'm not sure).
Flash that and let it "try" and reboot. It won't but you can do the key combo to get into TWRP recovery and either flash a ROM, Restore or at the very least Factory Reset, which would be my first choice.
Somewhere back there in your efforts, I think you may have erased your internal and if that is where your backups were kept then that might be why they are gone. Just a thought though.
In odin, uncheck auto reboot. Flash the recovery tar in pda spot. When it says pass, pull the battery and boot into recovery with volume up, home, and power. Release the power button when u feel the vibrate. Then thank mrmako777 for teaching me this tonight

This is exactly what was suggested to you before, since you said in your OP you had already odin back to stock. What I don't get is how come you were not able to boot into original recovery when it was just going on a boot loop. It doesn't matter. At least you fixed it. Enjoy

Failed Root Attempt On Previously Unrooted I317UCALK7 - Bricked?

I wanted to try an AKOP ROM or two on my completely stock, never rooted Note 2 running the OTA UCALK7 update. I followed the guide here (flash the SU injected stock UCALJ2 image) to root and now my note gets stuck at the Samsung logo. I have tried the following:
Downloaded the completely stock UCALJ2 unrooted image and flashed via ODIN.
Tried flashing both stock and rooted ROMs on another computer using the stock USB cable.
Flashed CWM touch via ODIN after flashing rooted UCALJ2 image, it can boot to CWM but fails miserably most likely to the lack of root.
My guess is it's bricked because sammy closed the root hole in the UCALK7 update and flashing back to rooted UCALJ2 isn't enough to bypass the patched exploit. Is there an ODIN flashable complete UCALK7 image that I can try (I've looked to no end, all I can find are rooted zips flashable via CWM) or am I really up the creek?
Pull the battery.
Hold the Center Home Button + Vol Down + Power
Slide the battery in.
If you do this right you can get into odin before the Samsung logo. I just had the same problem because I flashed the wrong recovery. It worked for me.

Thanks - I actually figured that part out since my second post. The phone boots after the factory reset however I don't get phone/data service. I've since tried flashing the two AT&T modems I could find, atti317ucalj2modemfixed.zip and ATT K7 Modem - Baseband.zip. Neither resolve the issue.

Thanks but I can't even enter the network configuration settings - it tells me to insert a SIM. My SIM is in the phone.
I'm having other problems too which I think are partition related. Apps are acting funny, saying there isn't space on the phone (dropbox can't download anything, etc). I'm trying to get TriangleAway installed so I can just RMA it but I can't even download it to my phone. Also a CWM fix permissions fails even though I grant it root access.

I know what you're saying, I'm definitely using the right file and process. I'm a pretty seasoned veteran when it comes to rooting/odin/RSD/fastboot, etc. I've run custom ROMs on dozens of phones since the G1. What's happening to me is apparently not a common failure with the note 2 or GS3. Is there a PIT file available for the AT&T Note 2? I see one for the Verizon Note 2 but I wouldn't dare try to flash that.
There is a pit file around but I really don't think it's that.
And also just checking don't mean to insult ur intelligence but if u are using Odin it will be a .tar, if it's a recovery its I .zip

Yeah, it's a tar file I'm flashing through Odin, got it from SamsungUpdates: Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I317_ATT_1_20121005095854_bpaaavv07o.
I also tried flashing the stock ROM in deodex'd zip form after I got a custom recovery on there, still no dice. The non-functioning modem and lack of proper root/storage affects both Sammy and CM/AKOP based ROMs. I don't know about the modem part but I've seen weird things like this when the NAND starts going bad and things written to it don't "stick." I don't think that's the case here since it's only on its 4th or 5th flash. More than likely the latter problem is a file system issue. I have no idea about the radio.
I'm going to try and exchange it tomorrow. At least I got the flash count cleared and I'm back on a stock ROM (with the same problems).

Cant install custom ROMs

I just got the GN3 and naturally, the first thing I did was root it. That took a bit of time because it didn't seem to want to stock. Supersu kept force closing and i would get a pop up saying its been prevented from opening. After a bit i got it though. and used titanium to freeze all the unwanted bloat. but EVERY time i try to install a ROM i get into a boot loop. Ive tried just about every rom that is so far available to us. ive tried removing the battery, wiping cache, and doing system restore. but i just constantly get boot loops. Any thoughts?

I guess my Note 2 is bricked?

Well I give up... I have finally done something that I can not fix. I can normally google and find my own answers and I never have to ask anyone but this time is different.
I have the I317 Note 2, Everything was fine, I was running a stock rom earlier this week and the phone started acting funny. So I though screw it, Ill just go back to stock. So i downloaded.KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar and used Odin to flash the stock firmware. I DID do a full wipe before I went back to stock. It worked fine for 2 days. It kept wanting to download an update. So it did. When it restarted from the update that the phone downloaded it got stuck on the Samsung screen.
I thought no big deal, I will just reflash the stock firmware and start again... FAIL same thing happened. It wont get past the Samsung screen even after leaving it on that screen for a hour. So then I tried to get into recovery... it wont let me.Then I reinstalled the stock rom and waited for boot, then I flashed CWM and tried to get in to recovery that way. No luck.
I feel like I need to do a wipe and start all over but I cant figure out how to do a full wipe without recovery. There has got to be something easy that I am missing but I cant figure it out. I will keep on searching with hope that someone tells me what I am doing wrong or what to do.
THANKS
If its still able to go into download mode and odin recognizes the device your good just be patient and download the correct firmware.

There are some issues with the OTA update from LJ2 to MH3, which it appears you still have sitting on your phone. You can try booting recovery and clearing cache - that should get rid of the OTA file.
The thread below has some information on how to update from LJ2 up through MH3 and then MK6. It's intended for those who already have the MK6 bootloader - if you don't already have that or want that, you'll want to stop at MH3 and consider your options.

Do you know did I use the correct firmware? I have had to run Odin a couple of times before but its a no go this time... I can not get into recovery. Even if I run Odin now with TWRP and restart it still wont let me into recovery... Can I use Odin to to a full wipe?
Were you on 4.3 previously? Via OTA?

yes I did upgrade to 4.3 when it came available then I went to a custom rom. Then full wiped and downloaded what I thought was a stock rom and here I am.
Are you saying I need to download the 4.3 stock firmware and that is my issue. What i downloaded was from September 2013
For a (hopefully) quick solution, see post #2 here, specifically the param/tz file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447
That should get your access to recovery back and allow the mh3 ota to complete.

For a (hopefully) quick solution, see post #2 here, specifically the param/tz file:

That should get your access to recovery back and allow the mh3 ota to complete.

WOW that worked!! I just got my phone into Recovery for the first time in over 24hrs now! I did a full wipe and now I am going to try and reinstall the factory rom that I have. Unless you tell me something different...
Thank you very much, I dont understand it but so happy to have a different screen!
Which factory rom? Where are you ultimately looking to get to?
100% back up and running! Thank you again

One that would work.... LOL I really dont have a preference other then I did not care for 4.3 I ended up with 4.1.1 and I couldn't be more happy. If they ever get 4.4 I would try that.
Its funny 4yrs ago I had the Sprint Evo. I changed roms more often then I changed shirts it seamed. I never had the issues or anything like what I ran into yesterday. I was so careless just trying every rom that was released. Because of that I will always remember the EVO as my favorite phone.
Those were simpler times...
I assume you want root and know how to get it.
Since you have the mk6 bootloader you will need to avoid odin flashing any packages that contain bootloaders in the future. See my mk6 thread for details.
If you want to get to 4.1.2 there are rooted cwm packages for ma4, mc3, and mh3 available. Wherever you end up, I recommend freezing the AT&T Software Update apk from within Titanium Backup or equivalent to ensure that you don't get a forced ota update at some point in the future.
