[Q] Am I worrying about nothing? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I just got this thing yesterday from eBay, refurbished from Asus for $209 (32gb) and one of the first things I noticed was a small protrusion from above the microphone jack. Here's my dilemma, I'm really into my electronics looking perfect although I know over time they will have little problems. But is this something to worry about or me just being anal?
I have the opportunity to get it exchanged but it would take a several days and besides being anal I'm not patient.
Thanks in advance.

Well, it's definitely not something that's supposed to be there - I just checked my tablet and it doesn't have that slight lump. The only thing it might possible interfere with would be headphones, and even then there's a really slim chance. Pop in some headphones and see if they work - if they do, there should be no other problems.

I just tested out the headphone jack and it works just fine. So basically it's just an aesthetic issue at this point.
Is it worth going through an exchange for though? Part of me feels as if it has this problem there is a chance it might have others.

For another device I would tell you to get a new one.
But for this tablet...
If you can't find any other issue (dead pixels, random reboot, touchscreen issues grounded or not, etc) you should keep it. The next one could be OK aesthetically but have other problems.

Thanks man, that's a really good way to look at it. I just need to give it a nickname like "bumpy" and get over my aesthetic analness.

Is there a good way to test if he multi-touch is buggy?

"Yet Another MultiTouch Test" from the play store is a good way to test multi-touch.

If the tablet is in a perfect electrical shape, I would simply keep it. Check the display for dead or stuck pixels, dirt or light bleeding ( though I don´t have anything against it ) and multitouch issues. If the device is usable, I would rather keep it and don´t bother about this dent. The guy who has opened the device before seems to have two left hands though...

its evident that it may have been opened (not sure for what). but as mentioned above, if all works great, no issues at all, just use and enjoy it. other units have issues, and risky to get those to replace a perfectly good one (aside from that bump).

Creaking on my Gnex

I have problem when I press on the green areas of the image, I have a little Creaking, but it feels when I press a little hard, but still bothers me because it's a $700 phone, I bought my phone on ebay to a Chinese seller, so I think I'll have to find a solution for myself and I would like to know if anyone can give me an idea to solve this.

Nothing in either sopt for me. I have a minuscule amount creaking up at the very top of the battery door. Just have to push the battery over up a little bit and it goes away.
No creaking for me in those spots or anywhere else.
Ah, I have that creaking...but I have to push very hard. Bought mine via Expansys. Doesn't bother me too much. OP, how much pressure do you have to apply to make it creak?
Yea I definitely have the creaking when I press down around and below the camera. It's annoying b/c that's usually where I rest my finger when I'm on the phone. Is it worth trying to get the device replaced?
It always is and always will be user preference. Some people have lower thresholds for the little annoying things. Getting it replaced is solely up to you. For me, it's not a big enough issue.
No issue here. Sorry.

[Q] HELP! - Red Screen Problem

Hey guys,
I came across a T-Mobile G2 for sale. It's in almost brand new condition. Problem is its screen.
EVERYTHING IS RED. It is so weird. Was wondering if anyone has a solution???
If there is an easy, not to mention cheap, fix..please let me know. I'd like to buy this phone.
Thanks for any and all input.

It could be a software problem? Was it like that before loading cyanogen?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just spoke to the seller about 20 minutes ago. He says it is not a software problem. It has something to do with the internal hardware. He got the phone analyzed and was told something needed to be soldered. After hearing this, I have decided not to purchase the device.
However I am still curious to know what exactly the problem is and how/why it occurred in the first place.
Has anyone come across something similar..even with a different device?
Thanks again for your replies.

Might be the ribbon cable between the screen part of the phone and the keyboard. This is known to affect the colors displayed on the screen if partially damaged. I think its pretty cheap to buy a new cable, and not too hard too replace it. But IMO its not worth it, as there is no guarantee that this is the exact cause. Could be something else. Plus, taking apart the phone is not the easiest thing in the world, especially if you aren't experienced with that sort of thing.
Totally not worth buying a phone that is known to have hardware damage, unless you are experienced trouble shooting problems with electronics and fixing them. I'd steer well clear of this purchase.
i got this issue too.. i need the G2 as my secondary phone.
so might want to get it repair. anyone could share whether its ribbon fault or the LCD fault?
I would absolutely LOL so hard if the red screen is caused by that option in CM7 that lets you change the screen colours and such. Are you sure that that's not what it is?

Yeah, exactly. He doesn't analyze thepost hard enough.
Anyway, I notice the phone so much slower after this. Not sure is this coincidence.
Thread starter.got the problem fixed yet?
So I have the issue as well
Thanks to @ihugyou for pointing me to this thread, did any of you find out how to fix this as it has happened to my G2.
thanks
Probably needs a new LCD or new flex cable, never experienced it myself so can't say which component is more likely, guessing LCD though

Ordered Kit from Ebay
Well for $21 + $4 (tape) = $25 I have ordered a new LCD screen for my beloved G2. It has been a while since I did any type of electronic repair but I figure for $25 I really have nothing to loose.
If not, time for a new phone.
After 1.5hrs I now have a new lcd and life is good.

[Q] Defect or not?

Hey everyone, I already used the search funtion, however I wasnt able to find a thread matching my problem.
I've got my 3rd HOX now, the first 2 were HT23.. - phones, both had that screen-flickering-problem. My 3rd one, a HT24 - version, doesn't have that problem at all, however there is some serious light bleeding on the bottom, you can see the the backlight - LEDs.. I've got some Photos for you:

Does noone have this problem too?
Mine has none of that problem, mine is an ht23 as well, been faultless.
i would ask for a replacement.

My friend has had this issue. Get it replaced mate. I have a weird issue with a small yellow smear on the screen that seems to be fading. Phone is perfect apart from this. You can only see it if you are on a white screen. Its weird.

Get this for bad, before my One X I replaced 3 Sony Xperia S phones and in the end they gave me a HTC One X that has a gsensor failure. This new one seems ok apart from the small yellow smear that seems to be fading. So I am happy now.
Smart phones really need better testing before release to be honest.

You're so right!
So I'll replace mine, however, I'm going to do it with some more intelligent timing.
I got my 3rd Unit from Amazon on April 27th. Due to Amazon's 30-Day replacement-rule, I can ask for a replacement till May 27th.
So if I get my replacement on May 25th or somewhat, chances of getting a May-Device, which should be "perfect" after 2 months of production with mistakes, are good..
I think you are making a very wise decision there, also with luck you may even have a newer firmware on it too.

I found a way of installing NATO straps on my 360 without a SteelConnect.

It's hacky, but it works. Let me know if you guys want a write-up.

hope that NEVER happens to my watch
Sweet Mercy that looks painful!
Nice hack though, I'm always on the lookout for interesting hardware mods!
Question though, mine has started cracking too... anything other than aesthetics affected by it? Heart rate monitor or dust ingress? It would be good to know what to expect if my crack starts expanding... maybe I should dremel it preemptively?
Eek, how did you break it like that?!

call motorola and get a free replacement. No reason to have a cracked back! You even get a free charging cradle out of the whole thing (and I think the replacements are stronger because I haven't had an issue since I got it swapped)

I'm in that situation where I bought it from someone who bought it in the US, and I find myself in Canada... And Motorola isn't capable of shipping me a replacement, unless I give them a US based address... Seems like too much of a hassle really, everything else is fine, and it had this tiny crack when I bought it (the guy had small wrists, much smaller than mine). I check it every night before I put it on the charger, hasn't expanded at all.
Given some horror stories I've read online of DOA units, dead pixels that aren't covered by warranty and other things, I'd rather stick with my perfectly functional one . Worst case, I'll just dremel the edges to reduce strain.
Thanks for the advice though! :good:

I'm sorry, but to be honest... It looks like ****...
Im sorry but i stall cant stop laughing
The cracks happen when using wrong bands. The metal bands push against the glass back and they crack the glass. Normally the back won't crack when using the genuine strap. I had the pebble steel on the moto360 and saw the glass started damaging so I removed it. If I had it still on then it would have cracked almost certainly
There sure are! At Southern Straps we have NATOs for the MOTO 360
Check us out when you get the chance. Out straps come with a Lifetime Warranty and our founder came from the Android Wear project.
Our bands fit Apple, Pebble and all Android Wear watches!

Does the screen work outside the OS. In recovery for example?
I had a similar problem on a RedMi Note 3G after I applied too much pressure on the screen, now, I can't say if is exactly the same but if, then yes, it is hardware.
What did you do prior to this? Also can you get to recovery?
Your screen is damaged! Happens with me months ago while running, My sweat did this. My solution was a screen replacement
No it is not working any where. Not even in recovery. I tried to install a RR Rom using TWRP and when i tried to reboot after patching the rom, The screen started flickering. I thought it might be OS issue but i tried everything. I tried to restore to Stock OS & stock recovery using different tools but still I can't get the display properly.
Also my phone fell down while i was talking from my shoulder height. Nut that was a day before this happened.

Check Amazon for omnirepair part. That's who I used for mine and they are top notch. And they provide decent tool set and support that makes job much easier. Slightly more expensive but with it in my opinion. I've had no issues except one spot that is slightly brighter.
