Video Player - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi All,

KitKat 4.4 doesnt seem to like other players and i cant even find the built in app?
It looks cheap and nasty saying plugins missing and just basic play and thats it
I've tried different browsers to no effect , they all just load into default?
or can't i use other players?:crying:

Try Chrome with MX. works fine for me - if it always goes to default, reset the defaults in the app settings.

Default video player I believe is hidden, does downloading MX not give you a prompt when trying to play a video? There should be a prompt like "play with" and the you can select "just once" or "always", then select MX player
If you've selected the default player to play it always, then a factory reset will help. Make sure you back everything up.

Seriously? Factory reset just to clear default apps is a bit extreme.
How about trying default reset apps such as:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appiator.defaultappmanager
Nexus 7 LTE
Stock rooted KOT49E
Faux Kernel

A full reset is a bit much but thanks anyway

Alternatively :
If you use ES file Explorer you can long press a file, hit more/menu, go to "open as" select video, then select the installed program you want to use.

The current version of MX player worked fine on 4.4 but lost compatibility with 4.4.1 update. Im just waiting for the developers to release their update of MX, it will come soon Im sure.

Are you in the USA? I'm in the USA and the VLC program says it's not compatible with my Nexus 7 and it says it's not available in my country. I have Android 4.4.2.

Thanks! It's working. I didn't even think of trying the daily builds since the app store said it's not even compatible with my device.

I'm using this Dice Player for playing videos, works on 4.4.2.

Me too. The good thing mx player not working on 4.4.2 is forcing us to search better alternatives. Diceplayer is a good one. Samba server, ftp, stream, dts, audio booster etc. And no ads here.
Sorry my english.

Diceplayer has a nice Samba browser, but it won't play any of my .mkvs over my home network like MX would.

Have you tried using a libffmeg.so diceplayer compliant?

The reason the play store says it is not compatible is because it is blocked in many countries including the US. I read somewhere that it is a licensing issue.

Megavideo problem

Got my desire yest and loving it. Having a small problem tho when i try and watch a megavideo.com link I get automatically redirected to some crappy jej share. com site. Anyone know a fix to this? Really want to watch tv shows through megavideo.
Thanks
Bump.
Does anyone know a fix to this? Like i said the desire seems to automatically re-direct when i go to megavideo.com to this j.jeshare.com!

Thanks alot man that worked, but now i have another problem
When i go direct to megavideo and press play its saying this is not supported - shockwave flash.
However i know that is wrong because when i go to another website which has megavideo links embedded, the phone plays them no problem
Hehe, sounds like you need to manage your own expectations...
The Desire is a very capable internet device. It probably has the best mobile browser I've ever used. But it is still a mobile device and as such, not all websites will work...
Yeah looks that way
I'll just have to use the embedded website to watch my megavideo shows, strange that it says not supported when clearly it is tho
guys, have you tried this application? it lets you download and stream any megavideo video, directly on your device, without using flash player and without the browser!

CM9 BETA1 Won't download music or video

I am on CM9 Beta 1 and when I try on any browser to download a music or video file (no matter what site) it only gives me the option to play the video or music clip in the stock video player or music player. I ran into this problem once before and just found and deleted the video player and music player but when I tried to do that this time I could not find the video or music player anywhere in the root explorer. I can't even be sure that deleting them will sove my problem. I've asked before but no one seems to understand what I mean. I hope i've made it completely clear what the problem is. My question is, can anyone help me figure out how to either disable the players or find a way around them to be able to download music and videos on my phone again? Thank you in advance
Sounds like you went to download some music or video in the past, and selected the "do this by default" option set on your browser, you may want to clear data on the browser, and whatever app it opens when you try to download. That should help.

I've tried that too. No matter what browser I use the same thing happens. and as for the video and music player. They're not even in the app list. it's like they're ghost apps! lol but seriously thank you for the suggestion though
I reinstalled everything and i'm able to download music and files again. Video is still only giving me the option to watch and not download. it wouldn't be an issue but i used to like downloading and then watching videos instead of having it buffering every 3 seconds.

Follow-up Question: Download Resolution
As a follow-up question on Tubemate:
I've been using Tubemate for about 5 months now and absolutely love it. One thing I've noticed, though, is that sometimes when I download a video at full resolution, it doesn't play very well in any video player I have tried (stock TW Video Player, MXPlayer, VLC). The video will play for a certain length (sometimes 1/2 the video, sometimes 3/4 of it) and the video will freeze (sound continues) and then the video will restart from the beginning. If I skip ahead of the "freeze point" the video continues fine.
I know that Tubemate downloads the files in sections and stitches it together (think of old-school r.00 and r.01 files), so it sounds like the problem is that the particular section the "freeze point" is in was corrupt. If I download the video in a different format (or redownload it at the original resolution) it sometimes works better.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with Tubemate downloads.

I've had this issue before.. It happens. Sometimes I go to the download folder and make sure its really at a 100%. But I figure its the video codecs on the phone.. sometimes they just hitch a part and its all downhill from there. But tubemate is by far the best. not only do you not have to deal with ads, it gives you options to select which video size you want which is always a plus

I believe its because our phones are 1280x720 and if you download at 1920x1080 then your phone can't play it cause it can't handle it. Its the same for me. As for everyone else.

Is there a non-Kodi music library app?

I have an unrooted AFTV and am looking for a media player that can see my Network Attached Storage, index it and show it to me in a library style format. I'm aware the Kodi can do this but was wondering if there is something a little more light weight ...an app designed specifically as a music library would be ideal.

There are a lot of media players out there that do what you need, but I suggest Wondershare Player. It can find all media on your server, and in my opinion is the best media player for android. One big thing it does is let you save the streaming url of network streams, which is an awesome feature. I keep a playercorefactory.xml with Wondershare as the default player so if I need a stream url I just move it to my SPMC data folder, click on the stream inside SPMC/Kodi, it plays on Wondershare and give me the option to see and keep the stream url. Now I can just delete the Playercorefactory.xml til I need it again. Plus it even has a browser.

Cheers patt2k. I looked at bubble upnp and really like it but there was a limit the size of playlist I can create using the free version. Because my ftv isn't rooted, I don't think I can install the purchased version and get it to validate with the play store. Do you know of a way to do this?
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-sideload-apps-onto-an-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick-using-an-android-phone-or-tablet/[/
I would think if the free version works so would paid, but be aware they will show under settings/manage apps. If you can't upgrade within aftv you should be able to do it on pc or android then sideload. Can someone verify this?

It depends how the app validates license.. for example for my nova prime I just extracted both nova launcher and prime.
You have to give it a shot.. buy it on playstore or use your resources to get it ,extract/download apk whatever your way of getting things is,sideloaded it and see what happens,.

[QUESTION] How Do I Get SW/HU Controls To Work With 3rd-Party Players (e.g. VLC)

Another day, another question...
Has anyone been able to get SW/HU controls to work on any other players besides the default one on 5.1.1 ROMs? I've tried XposedMTC and the CarService application, but XposedMTC does not work at all, probably due to it only being compatible up to 4.4.4, and CarService starts up a completely different music player. There was an option to get the SWC to work with Spotify, but that didn't work at all. I am guessing that my Android version is too new? I also tried different music players, such as VLC and PowerAmp (which has been confirmed to work using CarService), but had no success in getting that to work either. Anyways, if anyone has any tips/tricks/guides, I am willing to do it. Even if it involves having to mess around with some system files, as I really like the CM13 music player.
Flash the latest Malaysk rom and Carservice will work with your sw controlling 3rd party apps.

I used this and it worked with both my SW/HU controls, but it would only work in Spotify. When I used a player that was listed to work with MTCDTools, it would keep opening up Spotify and play a random song.

Yeah. I installed v1.2. I checked to make sure that the button wasn't mapped to launch spotify. Still getting the same results.
Are you sure you do not have conflicts with e.g. CarService? Definitely it looks like other apps are listening for key press.
What is the second player that you are trying to control?
