Yes.....by using it lol.
If somethings wrong with it, it should show.

yes smarta** I know that
we'll have a few hours for testing after receiving the tablet and leaving the country, if there's a tool or some secret menu (like there was in note II) that will come handful

You mean the developer options in the settings? Go to Settings : General : Device info and click some times on the build number. But there will be no software to really test hardware.

There's no need for the rudeness, his answer was legitimate. Most of the issues with the device can only be found through normal usage.
If the device has no noticeable flaws in the build quality, then the next step you could do is to download a 'backlight test' app. Search the play store, there are many.
Expect to see a row of small lights along the bottom of the screen, this seems to be normal for this device.
However many of these apps also allow you to switch between different colours, so you can check for obvious stuck pixels as well.
However all of this is looking for trouble. You'll find backlight bleed under the extreme test conditions, but the only important part is if you notice any bleed during normal usage. In my case, the answer was no.
So if normal usage doesnt show light bleed, and you cant see any stuck pixels, then theres not much else other than using it to see if spmething falls off.
All of this is standard for every phone, tablet, and anything with an LCD screen, there's no unique special tests for the note. Though I would add that you might as well test the pen works, though I've never heard of one failing yet.

[Q] Display brightness

Hi,
is there any way to change brightness to lower level? My previous phone, Xperia Mini, could decrease brightness to absolute black (I didn't need it, but still...). But my Xperia M is still pretty shining in dark even in the lowest level. It burns my eyes. All I could find were some stupid filters. Is there any better solution (root or not, I don't care).
Thanks.

Gravitybox has some brightness abilities to reassign lux-brightness pairs. Don't know if it can go under normal brightness though...
FindYanot: That's exactly what I don't want. I want something on HW level (lower led (or what they use) intensity), not just transparent black layer.
KoenGo: Do you think, it can work? I don't have root yet (I want do it, if I find solution), so I can't try.
Nobody faced this problem? Everyone is happy with light intensity?
Yes it's too much but if you lower that level screen will probably start flickering which is much more annoying than just too bright screen. This is common, hw related issue that can be found on other devices with low quality lcd.
I'm trying but it's kinda hard to tell if there's any difference since you have to reboot after applying new minimum. I would say there isn't much difference. I'll retry in the dark some time.
Doesn't crash or flicker or anything though, so that's the good news
Personally, I would not root just for this and just use the filters. What is your problem with them? That it uses more battery than a hardware method would, or just that it's impractical? In the second case, lux might be worth looking into. I've never tried it myself since it isn't free, I just use the filter u hate
Tried it in the dark and I believe there is a difference, although very small (barely noticeable) and imho definitely not worth rooting and installing framework.
OK. That's bad, but thanks for your time
Well I rooted my phone and I tried gravitybox and I don't think there is a difference. But still thanks.
My setup now is that I can (de)activate the filter app by swiping over the navigationbar. It's still a filter so it doesn't prolong battery life or anything, but it is a convenient way to enable or disable it.
If you would ever come across something better, please let us know

Yes, but you need root.
Execute in Terminal or run attached file as script via Root Explorer / GScript:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
su
echo 5 > /sys/class/leds/wled/brightness
Minimal stock value 27, we change it to 5 or any other you want.
Maximum value: 255
Bug: backlight will be flickering.
Thank you. It really works! (I rewrite it manually without any script or terminal)
Just one thing. The brightness file is used for current state and when I change intensity in options (or select auto), it's rewritten. So, is there any way to change minimum level permanently (minimum on bar or 0 lux = 5 or something instead of stock 27)? Or is it possible to make some shortcut to rewrite the file with one click? Or use some tasker for it?
But it doesn't matter much. Even this way, without any shortcuts, is awesome. I'll test it in night, but even now (during a day), I can see a difference.

Yes, but only by editing file in kernel, it requires recompiling.
Then pulled slider to the left will set really minimal value.
Here commit from ElixER kernel for 4.1.2, originally this trick comes from there.

Yes, GScript app, as far I know can create shortcuts.
Or in Tasker create task with only one action "Run shell" (tick Root) and then create shortcut in launcher.

Always was interesting what exactly causing this flickering at hardware side. Led's controller?
Please can you provide any information and example devices with same issue?

For example galaxy tab 2 (I have one), on the lowest brightnes level it flicker a lot (especially annoying when it's displays white surface), my sister's asus memo pad 7 hd has this issue too but less noticible. Yes, it's somehow related to device's power managment, in galaxy tab 2 forum people saies that it's flicers more when wifi signal is low so as I understand: low signal -> device need more power for wifi -> device gives less power for leds -> screen is more flickering but I could be wrong since I'm almost total electroinc noob I will test that later
p.s.
This issue is really common, even s4 has this problem according to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yZaQRr76f8 So Sony has done good move with setting so high the lowest brightnes level (at least this hides unusable levels). Really my eyes hurt when I'm using my gtab2 at night although xperia does the same thing but in different way xD
Tested your method and at least in my device, the LED flickering was barely noticeable and only appeared when I set very low values (like 1). Setting as 3 and onwards gives zero flickering here (or I'm just blind, not noticing it)...
You're right. Values about 3, 4, 5 are quite ok.
I made the GSscript shortcut and I¨m finally happy.
I think the flickering is caused by pwr regulation with low frequency. But I'm not electrician either.

Ambient Display Fix?

If any of you clever developers / tinkerers know of a 'lite' app to use to fix the non working ambient display issues I.E. pick up to wake doesnt work, a recommendation would be soooo welcome. I looked at apps like gravity etc in the play store, but they are a. rather large and b. the permissions they require are a bit suspect. Thanks in advance
Did not know something was wrong.
So I pick it up it does not wake up, I think is a good thing. When I pick it up and I want a display, I press something and have no problem with that.
This maybe one reason the Pixel XL has an excellent battery life.
At the suggestion of another user here, I installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomer.alwayson
It's reminiscent of Samsung's version but has a lot more customisability. There's also an option to turn of the display completely when the proximity sensor is activated. All of the permissions make perfect sense fit the features you select and it doesn't cause a terrible battery hit.

Ambient display is only meant to flash notifications on the screen in black and white for a short period then turn off. As far as I know, the pick up and bump to wake is an OEM added feature that Motorola, Samsung, and likely others added, but it isn't in stock Android.

On the Pixel XL it flashes only once which i find to be a disappointment. Also on the Nexus 6 , 6P and 5X the notification/time flashed once upon picking up or moving the phone a bit. This is not enabled on the Pixel models for some reason.

This feature does not even work for me at all (but I am able to get the light to pulse). After talking to pixel support for about 30 minutes they did confirm that Ambient display has an engineering problem they are currently working on.

Damn !! I was going nuts trying to figure out why this phone was not acting like my Nexus 6. lol I loved the Moto display then had to end up liking the Nexus 6 version afterwards. Then this Pixel XL only flashing the notice once then never again was aggravating. and of course no good app on the play store to emulate this function with 7.1 lol
well I hope this engineering problem can be fixed with software. :silly:
I've created an app that wakes ambient display when you take the phone out of your pocket or if you have the phone face down and turn it over. The app is in addition to Google's ambient display and does not change your lock screen in anyway.
I added a few other paid features for pulsing at an interval, wave to unlock, and battery percentage display on the ambient display.
I would love to have a few beta testers for the extra features, as it's a work in progress. Message me if you'd like a free code to redeem for the paid features.

It would be nice if Google could do something simple like say, have an automatic off setting so it's not wasting power during the night.
Must Samsung lead the way with everything Google does? Seriously?

Yes. It's something Samsung has had for ages now. I mean Google took the time to create a scheduled system for blue light reduction, yet couldn't bother to do the same with Ambient Display. It's either on 24-7 or off.
The best solution I've found is to put a piece of paper or such over the top sensor at night so the phone will think the device is in a pocket and turn off the screen.

The best ideas are the easiest sometimes. I stay away from Samsung. I can't stand trying to figure out where they put stuff at. Why change menu structure even. I've tried several times because of the awesome hardware but never make it past about 2 months.

Cheers for the tip! :good::good: We've done my part now let's wait
I just got my pixel 2 XL and can't believe google has not enabled this already, it's a very basic item and a must have for many.
Pretty pathetic, hopefully once roms start dropping this will fix many shortcomings on the device.
As mentioned in an different thread, using Accubattery will display the battery level on the AOD. In my brief testing, Google reported the app as not consuming any measurable amount of power overnight, so no appreciable battery draw. Also, there is a root app from an XDA RC that displays the music you are currently playing/streaming on to the AOD. This is different from the existing "now playing" feature already built in, and at the end of the article HERE it says that almost any "text" can be displayed on the AOD. It's not the built in Google controls for the AOD we are expecting, but there is hope for customization for those with root, and in the coming ROMs.
Well, got this notice, just don't know what "Changed" (shrug)

I just change my phone from my old one (Xperia C3 Dual) to A2 lite, and the first thing I noticed is that every time I scroll, it fell slower/less responsive; It's like you are scrolling something heavier (that what I fell?). My old phone is really laggy, running android 5.1, but still give me the better feeling when scrolling through setting, fb, web,... Is this how most xiaomi phone is like, or is there something with my unit?
I don't think there's something wrong with your unit. I have the same problem too, especially when typing something (for example in WhatsApp)... If anybody knows a fix, please post it.
After some research, there seem to be a same problem on the mi A1.

It says that it's a screen problem. You could check the LCD model installed in your device entering the test menu *#*#6484#*#* and doing the first test on the list "Version information". Then you could report it here, so we can check if the problem is related to some brand of screens or not.
For my device, that doesn't seem to suffer this problem at the moment, the screen (and other related hardware) is:

Have same LCD as you and do not feel there is a problem with the Input latency. But to be honest sometimes the sensor does not register some touch events. It is really occasionally, for example after unlock the phone with the fingerprint and try to swipe right in the launcher, sometimes I need to touch two times, could be probably the unlock animation still does not finish (but I see the launcher).
Sometimes while typing if I do not press exactly in the center of the letter it does not register my touch input.
Could be probably that I had a Huawei y9 2018 with 18:9 (instead of 19:9) and bigger camera and I used to that and needs more time for the a2 lite.

Yes, I think so, because of it not happening always, and because doing the touchscreen test (from the test menu I posted before) it looks fine.
same problem here i also had this issue on on older redmi note which was fixed by flashing with different firmware.
I can't replicate any of these problems. Maybe I got lucky with the touchscreen model? My version information is the same though..
Happens to me also on home screen with a heavy lwp and typing on messenger. Maybe a cpu or gpu issue? Can't handle the load?

Can you guys shed some more light on the issue? I am interested how many of you are encountering it and to what level.
No issues here. The phone is smooth, and I neither have Xposed nor Magisk installed.
I have the same problem

anyone using crossbreeder lite (magisk module) on a2lite?

may b it got fixed by getting miui + touchpanel firmware updates Zzz

Just Got My Red Magic 5 - Software Limitations

This is the Global version that just came out a couple of days ago. Some minor annoyances that was hoping to get some help on:
1. There seems to be no way to display the battery percentage.
Does anyone know of a system app that I need to disable to get this to work? None of the solutions online work with the Red Magic 5G overlay with Android 10, and I don't want to install a third party widget to get this done.
2. As far as I know, I can't customize the lock screen outside of a wallpaper.
Just shows a general date and time but I would like to put widgets or additional information if possible. If anyone has any insight let me know.
I know the phone just came out, but these two issues are EXTREMELY annoying. I honestly might have to flash this when a method becomes available because I'm definitely not liking the lack of customization Nubia has put on with their Android 10 overlay.
May i ask of yours is passing safety net?

Regarding #1, you are screwed. I've seen this mentioned a few times on different YouTube reviews. Regarding #2, you are correct. But even more surprising and ridiculous is #3, which I'll add here. It appears Nubia is forcing you to use the stock launcher! Yes, that's right, it's currently IMPOSSIBLE to use ANY launcher other than the one that comes out of the box. Nubia has said that this is INTENTIONAL! CRAZY!
I have battery percentage on mine.
Settings > power management > electricity percentage.
There is no settings > power management
Yeah same don't have those options.
Also can't figure out how to access APN settings
I've read that the only way to see % battery is to activate AOD, and the % will be displayed.
Best regards.
You have the latest firmware. My god the launcher is so buggy and bad. They really should let you use whichever launcher you want. Also no setting to change screen dpi or size and it doesn't even have the android 10 notifications. You can't expand or delete or reply from notification drawer. This is really really poor
What versions does everyone have.
I am NX659J_ENCommon_V4.05
Pulse version of phone.
I have no power management options.
I can reply in line to notification in the notification tray.
How is your Wifi speed? I have tried mine on 2Ghz and 5Ghz and I only get about 30MB down, whereas my Honor View 20 gets 100MB.
Launcher is fine once you have it all setup, but kept saying shortcut already exists. If you rebooted you see they are there.
Now I have it all as want it, thats not really an issue now, but not a great setup experience.

Hmm that's interesting.

Was up to date when I got it.

That's so weird no updates available for mine also
Battery Meter Overlay was the only app that I found to be able to show the battery % (choose the "Overlap the Statusbar" option). You have to buy the paid version if you want to hide it in full screen mode. It is not perfect, but it is better than nothing. You can choose from different kind of themes and change the colours, scale and position so it is pretty customizable
I already new about Nubia blocking the use of custom launchers (saw a review where it was mentioned) before buying the phone and wrote them about it and asked them to revert this bad decision (and I also told them to fix the missing battery %). I hope you all write them about it as well, so they know that they have to fix these issues. And if they don't allow the use of custom launchers they have to give us a better stock launcher with much better customizability.
Do different models have different firmware?
Have they ever pushed an update in previous versions?
Anyone getting poor WiFi speeds?
Mine is just about 30mb down on 5ghz WiFi when my other phone pushes 100mb.
Tried 2ghz even worse.
Thanks

Hi, anyone have any idea when will the global rom be released? Waiting to flash on my CN set..
Just noticed. All incoming calls are showing as "unknown" doesn't even show the caller number.
On O2 in the UK.
Anyone seeing this?
Thanks
Russ
