Sprint spark - Sprint LG G2

I took the sprint training today for sprint spark and in the training it states that tri-band phones will have issues connecting to most current LTE networks and will receive an update sometime early 2014 to resolve the issue..
Just thought I would pass this on if some people with the Sprint G2 have noticed this issue over other LTE devices.

Good read. Very informative. But what about the device upgrades I was told about. In the training it says the G2 will have an update early 2014 to fix this issue and allow the g2 to connect normally to all available lte networks. From what I was reading it sounds like that would not work that its up to sprint to update the old LTE towers to support csfb which is needed for triband phones.
I'm either not understanding this fully or getting conflicting reads.
Sent from my LG-G2 using Tapatalk

This is really random, but I know someone who sells the towers to many carriers (including Sprint), and they told me Sprint would be switching to/releasing TDD-LTE (currently US carriers use FDD-LTE). This isn't something that the average person could tell the difference between, but it could mean a better network for Sprint in general in the future. I don't have a time frame or any more info than what I've mentioned; just that it's coming.

I'm by no means an expert, but I'm fairly sure that the 2014 update you're referring to will enable all three bands (25, 26 , & 41) on everyone's handset and has little to nothing to do with CSFB. That said, you can already activate all three bands via ##DATA# provided you have your MSL,and getting your MSL is very easy with this device.
Edit - Some people in Spark areas have already managed to connect to bands 26 & 41 with their G2 using the above method.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk 2

The other 2 bands aren't enabled stock? Also I've heard people having issues after enabling those bands.

[Q] LTE in the near future. Bad?

Will the switch to LTE in 2013 (I'm assuming to facilitate the MetroPCS merge) impact us Galaxy SIII users negatively? Does our device support an LTE functionality?
Also, if there is to be a switch in networks, would I be able to "switch off" LTE --to the lesser 3G-- to preserve date usage?
It won't impact us negatively. Heck it could even help us as it would lessen traffic on the hspa + bands as more people switch to LTE. And no our devices cannot use LTE.

I'm probably going to have to agree with you, unfortunately. However, T-Mobile recently sent a pamphlet to me with a provided "FAQ" section, claiming that all of their devices will be able to support the LTE. I just didn't believe it, hence the thread's conception. It wouldn't surprise me if I had missed the fine-print-three-font saying "*this excludes the Galaxy SIII". It's still a glimmer of hope, though.
I'll continue researching the matter.
All of their future devices maybe. As of now, the only phone T-Mo has that is LTE capable is the Note 2.
As stated, T-Mo will still support HSPA+ as well as they do now. Gives T-Mo the edge over AT&T from how I see it.

Our devices may be able to support lte depending on the frequency T-Mobile uses for it.

Here's a pic to kind of show what the network will look like after refarming and LTE deployment is complete. Our S3s or any other phone that can use the 1900 band shouldn't take any performance hit. In fact, as newer devices are released with LTE support (and after deployment) it will reduce the number of hspa+ devices, leaving even more bandwidth available for hspa use.
It has been confirmed and questioned a number of times, but the T999 radio is not capable of using LTE. Besides, LTE is still far enough off that most of us probably won't see it in our areas till after we've upgraded to a newer phone.
But in the meantime if your areas been upgraded to hspa+42, you may already see speeds that rival current LTE offerings by competitors.

News from tmobile tech

Here's some news. Talked to a tech today for awhile resolving an account issue. During our conversation I asked about deployment plans. Here is the top five things they said they're doing:
1. Rolling out LTE upgrades to current 4g towers. Which may cause temporary service loss of data.
2. Upgrading all towers along the interstate system in their current footprint to hspa and to LTE in larger cities with 4g already deployed.
3. LTE will roll out in large cities with 4g first that have completed upgrades.
4. Metropcs lte towers may be given greenlight for us to roam on until the switchover (which is contrary to previous statements)
5. Acquire more 1900mhz and AWS spectrum for more buildouts of hspa and LTE.
They're also looking at possibly doing unlimited data with tether soon. But no word on pricing or availability.

If the phone can support Band 4 LTE (which I do not think AT&T uses for their LTE), it can support it.
These threads seem silly, because what tech and care know is far from the truth. Also to whoever thinks that you don't need a update for lte, you are most certainly wrong. We just got LTE installed on the towers on our building and it is not working on my note. But other notes in the building we have for testing have LTE up and running just fine. Unfortunately these notes were sent already put together, so whether it was a update or a sim card is hard to tell because I haven't got hands on time alone with them yet. Another possible solution is a provision, through one of tmobiles systems for troubleshooting I have seen lte settings for a phone line specifically but wouldn't have the information to properly set it up.

Optimus G on Verizon

Is this possible? I currently have the AT&T version, and since it has an LTE radio, could I use that with Verizon? If not can I use the Sprint version on Verizon?
Carrier unlocking is currently illegal unless you have permission from your carrier. That aside, Verizion is CDMA so it wouldn't work.
No as it has the wrong bands for lte besides what the post above said!

Sprint actually requires a UICC(sim card) for LTE... ours is just embedded into the device so you can't remove or swap them(easily).
But you are correct that Sprint LTE devices would not work on Verizon if you wanted LTE.
Talk/Text/EVDO is cross-compatible on all cdma phones/networks as long as the manual programming is done properly.
I'd like to remind Lokifish Marz that only devices purchased on or after Jan 26 2013 are held to this... and many of us purchased the Optimus G prior to this date. Also the CDMA unlock rules are even more grey than the GSM rules. Manually setting a data profile via ##DATA# to another data profile from another CDMA carrier has nothing to do with any "sim-unlock" or any secret methods to disable firmware security.

[Q] Can I use another 4G LTE provider?

Can I use another 4G LTE provider on the Galaxy Note II from Sprint?
I have Boost Mobile and I had a Galaxy S2 with Clear.com 4G WiMax. I now can only get 3G, and as you ALL know the 3G speed has lowered quite a bit. (200~400k vs 700~900k 3 years ago)
Another alternative I guess would be to get a Hotspot, but who wants to carry around a phone AND a hotspot when you can have them both on the phone?
I believe you can use this device on any network that is actually using Sprint towers, like MetroPCS (?) or Boost?
There are threads somewhere for instructions on flashing this.
(i'm also talking out my ass, because I have only noticed these threads in passing, never actually researched this. But I bet if you Searched a bit, you'd find the info.)

Thanks for the info but that's not what I meant. I mean the 4G service, not the voice, talk, text and 3G. I have that already. (that's what the thread under this one does, help you program the Note 2 on Boost, I already did that part. I meant the 4G LTE, i.e. connecting it on Verizon's LTE or T-Mobile's (MetroPCS is now part of T-Mobile I believe?) Heck, even a Sprint LTE account if they allowed it by itself with no talk/text service would be nice.

I give facts and argument you insult sprint... well of course you are right. who has ever heard of the "can suck it" argument ever loosing. that's how we explained to Hitler and the Japanese emperor that he had to surrender in WW2 "Mr Hitler can suck it" -pres trueman, "since I can suck it I have ordered my forces to surrender and suggested to the Japanese to do the same"-hitler (translated to English)
if you can't give facts to support your claim you can go head and get an iPhone on a gsm network since you are using the same arguments apple uses to ensnare its sheep -i mean- customers
either that or you are an at&t rep or fanboy trying to weakarm customers away from sprint. why you aren't targeting your biggest competitor Verizon is beyond me but take that stuff to T-Mobile customers they'll eat that up like they eat their "unlimited" throttled data
one bad experience in one city with one small period of data speed downturn does not a bad carrier make
oh and mods don't blame chuko (or me) for starting arguments. arguments are healthy and help shape perception

They don't read the internal info.
Now getting on the subject. No gpro for tmobile. The LG G2, Motorola X, next iphones & note 3. Those are confirm phones from T internally.

I opened a new line with T-Mobile and used it the past two weeks. I was able to unlock my G Pro with the T-Mobile SIM. I immediately searched and located T-Mobile APN settings to take advantage of their LTE service. The only time I had LTE available to me was towards LA, an hour south from where I live. Yet as soon as I popped in the T-Mobile SIM into my old T-Mobile HTC phone, I got more than Edge signal at my house.
So please, can someone explain to me why, at my house, I could only get T-Mobile Edge signal on my AT&T unlocked OG Pro, but using that same SIM I got better signal on my T-Mobile unlocked HTC?
After contacting T-Mobile myself, I was informed that the towers in my area haven't been "modernized" to allow unlocked devices on their LTE network. Currently, only their T-Mobile designated devices could access LTE here.
I must not be understanding something here. I'm sure I still have that conversation on my phone somewhere...

T-mobile has their hspa+ and lte on the aws band, but your home area is only covered with hspa+. The G Pro does not support hspa+ on the aws band so at home you only get edge. The G Pro does support lte on the aws band so you will get fast speeds as long as you are in an lte area. The HTC phone only supports hspa+ but you have more hspa+ towers in your area than lte towers. Chances are you can take the HTC phone anywhere and get fast speeds.

Thanks! I found an app that helps me see coverage by service providers and the type of networks offered and it seems you are correct! T-Mobile has a measly spot off away from me, thus no LTE

Waaaooo that rep get that answer from his a#$%. Tmobile has been working in what they call re farming. Its basictly that they move all the clients on 2g phones to 3g. So that tmobile could refarm that spectrum for lte..this was done in preparation for apple iphone on april 12 that the iphone arrive to tmobile. That actually cause that several other devices like android that use to work on edge now are able to get 4g or 3g or lte where available and stop the interoperability of none tmobile devices. All that thanks to crappy iphone. In resume either you are in a area that has not yet been re farm or it is and simply your lg does not have the correct apn. It is not the sim as lg g pro use the new sim type that enable lte.
Theres a treath somewhere here that using sqlite editor your able to enable the network mode on the lg. Wich will allow you to change bands. Maybe that will work.

Hey thanks for taking the time to explain this to me. I guess the rep's explanation of things really twisted my point of view. Your patience to break it down for me is appreciated.

Well theres a catch in a phone able to work on a particular carrier. In the case of the lg pro. If the phone is the one from at&t you should not have any problem. As long as your area has been re farm. But i can't say the same lets say on a lte phone coming from china or other country as they might run lte on a different frequency.
At least is what i have seen while working with clients that bought chinesse copy cats.
I took this call of a lady that bough a chinesse copy of a gs4 and she call to complaint that work on edge. When i ask what type of phone she got, she told me well its a gs4. I was like what the #$% you just told me is a copy cat so no lady you don't have a gs4. Anywyas theres was no way to make it work on nothing.more than edge.
So in way you are righ but the other person is righ to in a way.
