[Kernel][3.0.101][OC/UV] Extreme Kernel v1.0 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So, I have been working on a kernel over the past few days and wanted to get some feedback on how it works for others. This is build from the CM11.0. The kernel is build for kitkat roms, I have only tested it on the CM11.0 rom so if anyone else would like to try it on another 4.4 rom that would be great.
Built with TWRP Recovery
Features:
Linux 3.0.101
OC/UV to 1600mhz
650ma charging over usb (It does acutally charges when plugged into a computer)
Decreased LCD PowerOn delay
Network Speed Tweak
Sound Amplification Settings
BFQ-v6 I/O Scheduler for 3.0
SIO Tweaks
Zen I/O Scheduler
and much more, enjoy
Source: https://github.com/mtb3000gt/android_kernel_samsung_smdk4412/tree/cm-11.0
Downloads (4.4):
Extreme Kernel v1: http://d-h.st/z7v
I also recomend trying it out with my Extreme All in One Tweak Pack v3.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494964

KTEMPLETON is working on slimkat 4.4 I will test this out after he puts out a build with data.

I am confused. It says CM11 in the OP but then next to the download it says 4.2 is it a 4.2 kernel or does that just happen to be the build number?

The kernel on CM11 VILLUMINATI-12072013-d710 is 3.0.64-cm (The December 7th download). Since this is 3.0.101, the last one in the 3.0.x series I think, I'm all for it. Flashed on CM11 Villuminarti Dec 7 build on epic touch, so far so good.
*Update - running VILLUMINATI12/7, greenify and standard apps. Had issue turning on WIFI. Rebooted into CWM (not there, should've thought about that). Ended up using ODIN to flash Kuban_Kernel_v0.2.5.tar to get back into CWM. Re-flashing the extreme kernel v1, all things came back, but still no WIFI.
[Side note: text still work under the v1 kernel just fine if anyone's worried about giving it a test drive]

Any chance for a CWM recovery version of the kernel?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Having an odd time with this kernel. I was aiming not to have to restore backup.
I first installed the CM11 12-07 then flashed this kernel. I forgot the wifi fix however. When I rebooted to recovery to flash the fix I got stuck in a bootloop without recovery. Got the Kuban Kernel like someone else did. Flashed good. Samsung splash screen has "!". It goes to recovery and I wipe, reflash, and boot loop. Even with the allinone and wifi fixes along with it. Gave up and flashed back up. Even that didn't fully work, but got me later recovery. Might try again.

Well splash screen still has the triangle with "!".
So I tried again while also installing twrp. It still bootlooped.
Flashed backup and installed twrp on it's own to confirm it installed. Worked. Installed the ROM and gaps. Worked. "Plus side" twrp worked well with the 12-07 cm11 well. Not with previous for me.
Went back into recovery wiped cache/dalvic and installed with wifi fix. Tried rebooting recovery...bootloop and no recovery. Inject twrp was selected.

I had the same problem, does the kernel even have a recovery?

I had the same problem. Fixed it by one-click via pc odin Agats gb27 recovery, nandroid back (you did make a nandroid prior to kernel flash?), and left this kernel alone until further development.

Yes. That's what I meant by the first post "aiming to avoid" lol. It wouldn't restore system and only brought me to recovery, but that works for me. Was really excited for a kernel too. At least I know twrp works for this build of cm11 for my bro's phone.
I think the problem is booting into recovery. Because the first time around when I booted the Rom it worked. When I tried to reboot to recovery for the wifi fix and every other time it looped. And it seems to overite twrp as well.
I don't feel like trying again atm, but I think it may work if you do not try to boot recovery.

Hellcat's boot-logo changer
Now officially patched for our gaudi_bootimage.jpg!
Two step process after installing hellcats app:
Flash an Agat REPACK kernel. This only works from a Sammy kernel so a repack is necessary.
Then its as simple as cropping a pic!
If I recall cm offers some kind of dual boot into TW option for things like getting a GPS lock or updating prl, I imagine that would work with this as well.
Enjoy =)
HellCats Sgs2BootLogoChanger
Link to AGAT SAFE REPACK which probably the best option available for this.
Says that the kernel I'm using is missing the required file system drivers required to flash the image. I'm running AOKP so that may be why. Once we get a source built kernel then it will probably work. Anyone else running AOKP able to get it to work.

Do have the yellow triangle?
It wont work right if you have a yellow triangle. Ive successfully used it on AOKP back around build 30 and have since used it on CM9 with caymon-islands (sp?) kernel..
I have gotten that mesage before though, i cant why...
Oh well, im any case if yoy decide you want a boot logo just revert to stock. Im pretty sure the only thing that kills one is a full restore.
Good day, sir =)

Thanks for the heads up, it should work on every build as long as long as your build.prop reflects that your on an s2 and apparently there is a kernel restriction of some kind.
I noticed a message in the app saying that if you get "insertrandom_bootimage.jpg failed to draw, you ran into rare problem. Contact me to get it patched in the market"
Sure enough... That simple. Lol
He hadnt patched for us it because hes on gt-i9100 and hadnt ever even heard of gaudi.

Work around for aoskp/cm users.
a hellcat app that should help... its called
ktool
And with it you can backup current boot.img as zimage, rename it for a moment, flash a samsung zimage, install boot image, reflash the dumped zimage... all without rebooting. I'll post a pack with all needed.
Included is tool, boot logo changer, an agat zimage, and a boot.img just in case you forget to dump current.. I forgot to rename agats kernel so don't dump current until you rename it.
Haven't tested this yet. At work. Hope it works...

Thus far I made a JB repack kernel with my recovery and it's working.
I made it on Garwynn's request and he has it for further testing.
I guess when JB is officially out and we have the source I can make kernel for it as well.
Why not?
agat, flashing your stock repack FI27 kernel fixed my 4G download problem that I was experiencing earlier. :good: Thanks again for releasing this~!!
On my previous try with the Tersus install, I was running Tersus, source-based FI27, EL29 modem and gettiing ~1Mbps download and 1.4Mbps upload.
With the only change being the stock repack FI27 kernel and keeping the EL29 modem, I now get these speeds.

There is, however, one problem. Whenever I try to install the XDA forum app, I get the following error message:xda app couldn't install on usb storage or sd card.
Do you have any tips on how to fix this?

It has been talked about and discussed in few threads.
I never had that problem with app installation and never was able to recreate it.
There are few tips and workarounds like unmount sd card and than install or pull the sd card from the phone and try to install app.
However I can't tell you with certainty which approach will work for you.
Sorry.

I had tried rebooting but it didn't work. However, the xda app finally installed after I shut off the phone, pulled out the SD card, rebooted, then tried installing it. Thank you agat~!
Weird thing now, however, is that when I tap on a post to bring up the pop-up menu, like to give thanks, the screen goes blank & the app force closes. But at least I can read the forum and post by using a different method.
EDIT: Couldn't edit this post from the xda app--had to do it via laptop b/c of the force close issue.

Repacks are usually just stock kernels with custom recovery.
Agats rebuilt kernels are tweaked and have more governors etc..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28399829
It's kernel related. You have to find kernel that support higher overclock.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
There is various kernels in the Original development thread that support overclock.
Make sure yo read the OP and figure out which is best for you and your phone.

Could be a few issues.
You could be on an old version of JellyBam that does not use the 3.4 kernel. You also could have downloaded the wrong kernel from the page linked. If you could give us your ROM version that would help.
Its 7.5.0
But do u have to flash a kernel with odin

Kernels are flashed in recovery, not Odin. The problem may be the recent display changes in KT's kernel. You may want to check his thread for an earlier build (pre 4/19) before the display commits were added.

correct. flash his 4/11 release.
and if you ever find yourself in a bootloop from flashing the wrong kernel, just flash the correct kernel in recovery. wipe cache/dalvik, fix permissions and reboot. good to go without having to restore or reset anything.
also, i'd stick with ROMs in this forum that are supported by the dev.

[FULL RESTORE][TAR] Stock NDC Odin FLASHABLE [4.4.2] [BOOST/VM]

Nothing fancy, just the Boost/VM variant of 4.4.2 Kit Kat tar, captured from Kies.
NOTE: For those Boost/VM users who flashed the Sprint ND8 version, this WILL flash successfully over the ND8 bootloader.
- This will (should) not wipe your data.
- As with everything, you are responsible for what you do to your device.
- I have Deodexed and Odexed rooted stock zips ready to test if someone wants to give them a go. Let me know.
Download Link
Instructions:
1. Download file to your PC(somewhere you can find it!)
2. Put your phone into Download/Odin mode
3. Start Odin(I suggest the latest, 3.09 is out now I think, I used 3.07)
4. Click on PDA, find tar file, click it to put it into PDA slot
5. Click Start
6. Takes a good 15 minutes, so sit back and chill. It will reboot on it's own, and you now have Kit Kat.
Oh, and because I know someone will ask, YES, this does have the Knox bootloader on it
Does anyone have the modem from this build. Hoping it will fix issues I'm having with ND8 modem.

Im going to stick with the nd8 modem. I thought about trying this but everything is working fine. I use virgin mobile and i use xda. When i bought my s3 i couldn't find kit kat for virgin so i researched the sprint tar. I was only on the stock virgin 4.3 for a day, and rooted and what not. I odined sprint s3 stock nd8 tar through odin3.07 with reboot unticked- pulled battery - odined philz touch recovery(spr) reboot unticked - pulled battery. Then i booted into recovery flashed newest philz (lte) recovery. Then i flashed bilgerryans wicked x rom. Phone is now rooted, deodexed, and has custom kernal. Phone works great, especially since i changed data setting for throttling. Hope this helps someone. My exact steps i took to get my phone to awsomeness.

Just Odin'd my GS3 today with this and everything went well. My drop down notification bar says Virgin Mobile like it should. No problems except not receiving a 4G signal where I used to. It doesn't even say 3g. Is there something I should know about this? LOL. Any help appreciated.

Hi! Update PRL and Profile from the Settings / More / System Update menu.
If that doesn't do it, there's a code to dial in the stock dialer to reset data. I need to add it to my contacts some I keep forgetting. ##73678# or something like that. Be prepared, I think it reboots your phone in the process. Then update PRL and Profile again after.

If your waiting for a knox free version.... You will be waiting forever. Its not going to happen. There is no way to take knox out of the bootloader, trust me everyone has been trying... Knox just makes it were you cant downgrade through odin. You can flash any rom version you want in recovery.

And Knox was further incorporated into the device with 4.4 (and it will be in all Android devices to some extent with Android L). It makes a call to see if Knox is present at first boot, if it's not there it bricks the device. All the newer devices have it too. Unless you're planning on sending your phone to Samsung for a warranty claim there no reason to even think about it being there.

Last time I had KNOX, I flashed a new recovery ZIP and bricked the phone. I don't want to tip-toe around KNOX if its there, I dont want to have to worry about it all together. If I just flash the Modem, will I get KNOX or will it just update the PRL and such?

To get 4.4.2 without bricking... You need to odin 4.4.2 stock tar and odin 4.4 2 compatible recovery afterwards. Any other way will lead to brick. I never have to worry about knox because the only tar i have is the 4.4.2. I flash whatever rom i want in recovery with no problems. Like Bilgerryan said knox really only affects you, if your trying to return your phone to samsung with knox tripped. Im loving 4.4.2 im glad i made the plunge.

Welcome to SaberKat Android TouchWiz 4.4.2. This is a Semi-Stock ROM with a few speed tweaks and a slightly modified kernel to allow permmisive state. Includes several S5 apps and probably more to come but who knows what I'll do with this thing. The ROM includes Xposed, Wanam and SE Mode Switcher used to activate permissive kernel. Updates are planned including at some point possibly implementing my own custom kernel.
Download: SaberKat 1.5
Download: SaberKat 1.0
SuperSU download: SuperSU
If you are still on the old 4.1.2 bootloader then you will need to flash agni kernel for WiFi
AGNI Download: AGNI Purestock Thread
AGNI External SD write fix. Should work with any kernel. Download: AGNI KK SD fix
New ATT 4.4.2 Modem: I317UCUCNE5_Modem.zip
New Canadian 4.4.2 Modem: I317MVLUDNF1 Modem.zip
HOW TO INSTALL
Download the zip
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
Wipe System
Wipe Cache/Dalvic Cache
Flash the Rom
Reboot
Set up APN, save and select. Go back and turn on Flight Mode. Now turn off flight mode. Network switch now available but should be LTE on default. If not change it. Reboot to recovery (4 Way Reboot now standard) and flash SuperSU. Reboot and enjoy
Enjoy
Thanks to these fine folks here for helping me: @eZdubzitmk4 for helping me acclimate to TouchWiz as almost all my experience has been with AOSP. @gregsarg for numerous tests and continued effort. Not to mention hours of mind numbing searching and countless valuable input. @Mr.Bola for the S5 apps
Notes:Unobtrusive calling only works when in app. Messaging quick reply go to message settings, notifications and enable pop up. That's all for now, have to check what all I've actually changed. ENJOY THE ROM
