[Q] why all the pop ups on xda with N7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I keep getting redirected to the play store and other websites when I'm on xda with my nexus 7 and on my phone.
Also every time I move a page up or down the page refreshes and I have to move the page again to see what threads are at the bottom of the page. It is getting to the point where I'm thinking of deleting my xda bookmarks and not bothering with the site on my tablet.
All other websites are fine by the way. I have avast installed and I'm using chrome.
Please help, thanks.

Get adaway https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway

Cheers for that I will give it a go tomorrow. I have just installed boat browser and xda is working as it should so before I get adaway I will try boat to see if the problem is caused by chrome being sh!t.
Thanks for your help.

Chrome

To stop the browser from auto refreshing change the forum style at the bottom from 2013 beta to 2014 beta. For whatever reason this is broke on xda with the chrome browser.
Edit: I mean change to the 2013 beta 1024 not 2014

I'm experiencing the same scrolling/refreshing problem on Chrome Beta. (But no pop-ups)
It would be great if Boat works.

I have been on here for the last hour using boat browser and not a problem, and it's a bit faster as well. Try it and see.

I tried taptalk and boy is it me or is that horrible to use.
I'm getting pop ups and redirections on boat browser now. How come it doesn't happen on any other websites. Also I don't have a problem with xda when on my windows phone. Looking forward to getting my 2520
On the "ad away" link above it says root needed, I don't have root so is there any way of getting it without root?
Cheers

Dolphin Browser HD not working

Anybody else having issues with Dolphin Browser not opening/responding?
Yes. Wait. Or use stock. I like stock better than dolphin now.

Thanks, thought i was the only 1...
Youre not the only one. Ive got issues with Dolphine and my GN also. Sad too bc i really like Dolphin
Same here.
Need it to set a Customer User Agent... :|
yeah dolphin no worky.
if you want one with 'desktop mode', skyfire(my fav) works most of the time on this Nexus.
otherwise use stock or Boat Browser.
They have a beta to fix the issues it has with the GNex. Works for me again.

I've missed you so much!
It seems that the freeze is most likely to happen on Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
But now it is ok for the beta version.
Thanks for your quick response!

You can set User Agent in the stock browser as well. Just type about:debug in URL bar and hit 'Go', then open Menu and you will notice new option there, which will - among other stuff - allow you to change UA.

[Q] Chrome issues on the new Nexus 7

Is anybody else having issues with Chrome? When I am browsing with several tabs open some of the tabs just freeze up. I can't scroll up or down, and none of the back buttons work. I have to close the app in order to get it working again. It's happening about every ten minutes. I'm just wondering if anybody else is running into this problem...
It's something with this site because it's doing that on my Note II. Other sites appear fine.

Just picked up this Nexus 7 this morning. It does not seem to like the xda site
Yeah, I've been surfing the web with it for a while now. It works great on most sites, but for some reason, my Nexus 7 (2013) and the xda developer site do not get along. The page keeps reloading if I try to scroll down (and pops in a new ad banner each time.)
I can only see the top portion of the page. It seems to mainly happen on the forum list pages. (For instance, if I go to the Nexus 7 (2013) page it list the sub categories. If I try to scroll down it reloads the page. Thats ok because the list is short. But if I go to one of the sub categories, like Q&A and try to scroll down to see the full list, it keeps reloading and putting me back to the top of the list. A few times the window locked up and I had to close and reopen it)

I wonder if anyone has tried a different browser for this device?
I am trying to not to add to much junk to my N7. I picked this over a Galaxy because its a Nexus device. I'm trying to keep it clean...

My chrome browser has froze up from time to time. I'm on chrome beta now and have been fine.
I too have had issues with the chrome browser and the xda site. It constantly reloads, regardless of what I'm doing. Relieved to know I'm not the only one.
It seems to causing the shockwave plugin to crash. I used to have the same problem with Android Central. Might be an issue with their ads.
I just use the xda app from my phone, ask the website I've tried work well so far on chrome.

Funny, that's when it started for me.

Can confirm that issues start after signing in xda on chrome beta. It was not immediate and then it would just freeze. Clearing data did unfreeze it. The xda app appears to be working fine.

I have this issue too and it is independent of having the Xda site up. Its frustrating along with a few other small things that I hope a factory reset will fix.

For xda browsing with the N7, try changing the xda layout. Scroll to the bottom of any page, in the bottom left corner there is a pull down menu. Try changing to one of the older/other layouts. Some have said it fixes the xda browsing issue.

Thanks....that worked for me. I am on the 2010 layout. Man that was annoying.
So it appears to be the way xda is done, right? Happening on my S4 as well..
edit: Tabs still freezing for me...not reloading all the time though.

Same here. I still have tabs freezing on me occasionally, but XDA is not reloading itself whenever I scroll down anymore.
If you have more than 1 tab open, you can go to the recent apps screen, touch Chrome, select a different tab before the address and tab bars hide themselves, then close the frozen one without effecting the others.
For reference, the constant refresh problem is also tracked at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382516.

[Q] any body else having this problem?

When I visit a site, (especially xda) with the new nexus 7 it keeps refreshing constantly, like it'll load the page up but after like 10sec it'll refresh the whole page I think it might be the ads causing it to do it but its just a guess.
I'm Using chrome.
Yup I think its to do with the ads on xda, I just downloaded the app from the play store, solved that issue, but it really needs to be fixed, I made a post about it yesterday, its extremely irrigating

xda is constantly reloading

On my 2013 nexus I have been having issues with this site constantly refreshing with the chrome browser. I think it has to do with the banner ad's.
Anybody else experiencing this?

I assume your using Chrome. This was mentioned in an other thread and it fixed the issue for me.
1. Scroll down to the bottom of the XDA web page, to the pull down menu.
2. Change to a different style I believe XDA Classic, XDA 2010 or XDA 2013 Beta - 1024, all worked for me.
Hope that helps, Good luck.
re
That did the trick.
Changed it to 2010.
Thanks

Excellent, glad it helped.
Had the same problem with IE9 Win32.
The XDA 2010 option works for Dolphin. It stop the reloading problem when using the back button.

Extremely Annoying pop up ads on XDA forum using Chrome browser

Hello
I have recently starting to get a lot of pop up screens while browsing XDA forum in chrome saying I got 13 virus. (track.dovelane)
It is not happening on Dolphin and other browsers !
I like chrome and all my book marks are on it, so I don't want to change my browser.
I tried ads away and mother of all as blockers (flashable zip from XDA ) with no effects!
Even installing avg pro hasn't stopped those pop ups!
Any advice ?

I use AdAway and neve have any adds or pop-ups. You may want to try Malwarebites and see if you have a suspicious app on your tablet. Otherwise try the XDA app. If Chrome Browser is the only one it happens on then don't use it.

Cheers mate.I tried malwarebytes and there isn't any such application. Moreover, this is only happening in chrome even when I have blocked pop ups!
I think the latest update to chrome might be the reason! I will try to downgrade it and report back !
Update :
DOWNGRADING SOLVES THE ISSUE
It's not just xda. I'm seeing this on GameFAQs too.
Happened to me for the first time today, on Gamefaqs as well.

I myself don't use Chrome. The stock browser is fast and I have Firefox for full flash capabilities using a non Hacked flash APK. Good to see you got it stopped for now.
