Introducing - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I am currently just joining the XDA forums but I've been lurking around here for a while now. and have found so many posts informative/helpful/funny.
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Note II (T889) currently just upgraded to 4.3 which from reading from some of the post i see that it wasn't that good of an idea to do that so soon.
Even though the phone i own is the T-Mobile Note II. I do have it connected through At&t. and with the help of a combinations of Posts on the XDA forum i was able to get LTE.
As of right now I have not rooted my phone yet. Mainly because when i tried to do it before i lost signal completely and cost me some hours and a little bit of hastle to get it back to regular.
thought at least introduce myself. Hopefully in the future i get to learn some more before trying things out. and maybe one day create a ROM as i've seen there are some guides around.

HI abreu,
Welcome to XDA and SGH-T889 community!
As of you have already been through different forums you must have noticed that post which are not relevant to our phones or are duplicate get locked. There is an off-topic thread which covers almost any topic.
I am sure you will have a good learning experience here.

Welcome!
But, creating these threads are not really necessary, there are off topic areas for stuff like this..

Hi i'm Drie and i wanted to introduce myself and say i find most of the information here helpful and useful. I am very interested in rooting my phone and I must say that a lot of you have some great ideal but they are not working for me. I know there are some SUPER TECHS on this sight that may want to entertain a new user by giving her a step by step manual (rooting for dummies) on how to root an HTC EVO 4g.
Ive read thread and watch lots of videos and still my phone is not rooted.... HELP
Drie
Welcome to the site; it's a great place.
From what I have found is, it is easier to do things by reading directions; I never get things done in the videos.
Oh and a big problem for a lot of people; when downloading and putting the update or bootloader zipped folders onto the phone, only name them root or update or whatever, leave out the .zip part; that messed me up and I was clueless for an hour or so.
rooting
when i say that i tried to root the phone, that means i made an attempted at it, but since i know nothing about rooting a phone every word seems foreign to me. I need instuctions from the very beginning.
Welcome to the forum.
There is a good guide HERE and another HERE.
The first one does a good job of explaining the terminology.
Hi. I'm Ed.
Just hijacking this thread to say hi too. Been browsing xda for nearly a year now using it to upgrade and root my desire. Just found out I need 10 posts before I can ask technical questions. Oh well, 9 to go.
Thanks for all the sound advice I've found on here. And it shows its a decent forum if I haven't needed to ask a question in nearly a year.

So, I'm not the only one trying to build my post level so I can ask stuff?

same situation as you, this place is awesome just need a few more posts though.
Hey guys!
Can anyone use this thread to get post count up so we can ask in the dev sections?
I am fairly new, been lurking around for a month or two now.
I have an Evo, rooted, with Mik-froyo Rom v4.5 beta 5

so asking in the Q&A we don't get dev help? or do ya'll mean just to ask about ROM's specifically?
I have to agree with quite a few of you here - I read threads here for about 2 to 3 weeks before ever signing up - finally I had to lol (got soo many questions) - also went to post in the development section and found out I couldn't post there - though I can't remember why I was going to post there first - maybe that was where one of the instruction threads I was reading was posted

I used XDA for all my Android needs in the past...

Now that I have a Galaxy Nexus and I'm looking threw to see what's out there to flash. I get to my favorite community here and find out that for whatever reason GSM and LTE models are mixed together in one big cluster f**k that can potentially brick my phone if I don't read the fine print. This is insanely dumb, it poses a potential risk for me even tho I feel I'm a seasoned veteran of the Android flashing community, and to anyone that is completely new to this and doesn't understand the subtle differences of CDMA and GSM. So here I am typing this out trying my damnedest to wrap my mind around WHY XDA DOESN'T CREATE SUB FORUMS FOR EACH TYPE. A lot of other sites do, and it makes the search 1000000x easier to navigate.
So please could some moderator explain to me the reasoning behind having one giant pool of ROMS and mods that are completely different from one another? Is it really that hard to create a sub forum to take you to either the CDMA or GSM version?
I'd like to get some feed back here or am I the only one that is slightly frustrated about this? I mean its completely unorganized and the whole forum just feels really sloppy already.
You're not the first to mention this and, if you searched (cause you're a vet with 47 posts), you'd know the Mods are looking into it
But in essence I agree, or you just hope the threads are labelled correctly (LTE/GSM)
Dude if you used XDA as much as you say you do then you would have done a search on this topic and realized that there are already 2 threads in the last week on this subject.
Mods can we please merge all "Separate GSM/LTE forums" posts.
yeah I did try searching for it, thanks for the most obvious response
but ya know what its hard to find something when I don't know what to call it....
you'll notice that I never used the word separate which is the key word I was missing
so thanks for the ****-ish way you gave me that info it was slightly helpful i guess...
Just for the record I agree with the op. However I'm not too worried about it. This site has given me so much and asked for very little in return. I'm just greatful to have access to all this great info.

Some veteran. You really can't just look at the title of the thread to see if it says "LTE" or not? The only important threads that should be looked through are on the first two or three pages. Not that hard.
If you seriously brick your phone because you can't figure out whether something is LTE or GSM, you are a bit slow IMO. So far we only have one page of relevant ROMS and mods in dev section and you're already complaining about having trouble finding things when search isn't even necessary. Come on...

It's because this site is a joke. There are so many things wrong with the way XDA structures and manages these forums. Look at rootzwiki...or even droid forums. The mods actually do their jobs there and make it EASIER for devs to post their work and manage their users problems by preventing/deleting/combining duplicate threads. Both of those forums even provide sub-forums for popular devs to let them manage it as well. And a simple thing like separating the LTE and GSM versions into their own forum was a non-issue at rootzwiki...yet here at XDA it seems we're asking the admins to split the atom.
That's why devs are/have moved to rootzwiki to post their work. Sure they'll copy and paste their topics over here eventually, but the difference is that if you want your post to be read by someone at the developer level, you're probably at the wrong forum. You should have seen the XDA droid bionic forums before everyone packed up and went onto rootz...LOL, it was like the wild west.

I wasn't talking about myself jackass, there are tons of people out there that have never flashed a phone before and not knowing the difference between GSM and CDMA can be a confusing concept for most. So thanks for trying to make me out to be the jackass when you've accomplished that all on your own.
I'm not having trouble finding anything considering there are only 2-3 ROMs for LTE, but in a month there's going to be 50 pages of crap to sift threw. So that's the problem I see, and the fact that if it was just broken down in to 2 different sub forums from the start would of been something very simple and I just don't see why it wasn't/hasn't been done.

It may be disorganized and full of duplicate threads, but it is an excellent resource. I have been here since Windows mobile 6, The G1, and a whole slew in android phones... and it is the same story. The devs move to some other site. You get a new phone and everyone comes back to XDA. If more people kept their mouth shut the site would be easier to navigate. I could care less, as I mostly lurk and find what I am looking for. No need to comment in every thread, because it probably wouldn't contribute much.
XDA is a great resource, if you don't like it go to another site and browse their forums.

I completely agree, I started flashing my first droid and found everything I needed right here with super helpful devs and a mostly wonderful community that would aid you. I personally don't care what gets posted in General though. I think only dev's should be able to post in the development forum to keep things to a minimum, but if a topic needs to be brought up multiple times to get it done then so be it. That's how things get done if a topic is shoved back into the darkness then it needs to be brought to light over and over til something gets done.
I agree totally, I started using rootz instead because they seperated the 2 devices. Also it should be GSM or CDMA. LTE is GSM. Lots of confusion can happen here.

[VOTE] Nicest and Most Helpful Person You've Come Across?

Just thought I would start something like this. Have any of you come across someone who has been extremely nice or has helped you a lot?
Well let's give them some recognition. Post any stories you have of people or dev teams that have helped you.
Here's mine
I got the galaxy s2 and I was having trouble getting it to work and lost unlock and stuff like that and having trouble getting back to stock and such. He found my post and ever since, I have been in contact with him and he has sent me step by step instructions so exact as to what I need to do, yet so easy, that if I didn't understand them, I would probably the subject of one of these.
Anyways I have finally got my phone awesome and when I went to go thank his posts in my thread, I saw that ever single comment he had in any thread was to help someone... And he had about 10 pages of this... and they were almost all different threads as well!
His name is Jokesy
I hope to hear more stories. Please state your phone as well so we know what part of the community they are part of.
Back when I got my HD2 I remember seeing one answering nearly every single question that was asked and trying to help out anybody he possibly could... The guy is samsamuel and is still to this day one of the most helpful members I have ever seen on XDA.

The majority of the people over in the Confessions thread. It all started off as a bit of a joke, but once people started confessing problems they were going through, everyone in there (except for a few) all reached out and helped each other out in there times of need. I'd never have thought a community based on mobile development would've had a section that's anywhere even close to that.

1. Free Unlock TMO/ATT phones. (Thread is closed as of today though)
2. He made Market Place Selling Format
3. He recently made thread to MOD your cheap dock to do MHL and USB OTG very easliy.
4. And he put up Really Great Deals on Member Found deals all the time.
And he answers pretty quick and easy way.

What on earth is going on with the Relay 4G?

Okay, the time has come where I must ask.
The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G came out in September of 2012. Since then it has quickly become the most requested phone of all time in the new forum request thread, gained an 80+ page thread in the G2 forum filled with information on how to unlock and hack the phone, and through the hard work of members trying to co-ordinate their efforts without an official way to communicate, gained an unlock method, a hacked recovery, and a functional CM9 ROM. Despite this, it still has no forum of its own. In fact, the threads that been instrumental in the work that's happened so far have recently been locked, making further developments much more difficult.
So I ask you, what on earth is the holdup?
I came to the Relay 4G from the Sidekick 4G. That was a phone that had great hardware, but due to a lack of support from Samsung, and a lack of development here, never got past the Froyo ROM it launched with. Now we've got a phone that looks like a worthwhile replacement for it, and people working on it, but they can't share their work here or connect with other people who could help. It feels like I'm being let down for the second time. First by Samsung, now by XDA. I'm afraid of this continues, development for it is going to trail off sharply as well once the phone loses it's newness. And I'd hate to be stuck with another phone with terrible software support. After all, I'm not the sort of person who can afford to casually buy a new smartphone every few months. And given how popular that thread was, I think we can safely say there are a lot more people who are eager to see this phone succeed.
I hope someone who knows what's going on can comment on this. I've worked on the board of a non-profit, so I know all too well what happens when a small number of people in control don't communicate with the larger membership. You've got a large group of people who are feeling let down, or outright angry right now. They're in the dark and upset and distrustful. And in the absence of reliable information, people are very good at spotting patterns, be they real or imagined, and turning them into very strongly held opinions. Speculation runs rampant. Then it doesn't take much to go from "Something happened" to "There's a conspiracy." And it can take years to get past the perception that something malicious went on. I urge you guys to communicate now and nip this one in the bud, before it blossoms into an ugly mess.
Any development which has been done for the Relay 4G can be posted in the Miscellaneous Android Development forum.
As you can notice just from looking down the first pages of that forum, those devices which don't have their own specific forum can have development projects posted there instead.

We get that there is a misc development forum. There are already development threads there for the Relay. Our issue is that we had a discussion thread in the G2 forum for so long, with well over 800 posts, as well as threads in various other QWERTY phone forums. Nobody seemed to object to its existance there, and then out of nowhere we get a simple "off topic to this phone" reply and thread closure. Said thread deserved the decency of being moved to an appropriate forum, and now we have no idea where to discuss our device.
We are essentially lost with no explanation. The moderator I messaged gave me nothing more than a "we could have moved it, but nobody would know where. Do you expect me to pm every user?" I was then told that it is standard procedure to just shut a thread down. But one that big, where for so long nobody seemed to mind?

[Q] [NEED HELP] I Am Using Verizon Galaxy S4 On T-Mobile.

As the title states, I am using my unlocked Verizon galaxy S4 on T-mobile. The problem I am having is that because it is loaded with all of Verizon's software it doesn't function the same way as an S4 from T-Mobile would. I get edge, 3G and, H+ Data connectivity but, it is spotty and more edge than anything.
My question is:
Is there a way to basically transform this Verizon phone into a T-Mobile phone by flashing T-mobiles radio firmware, Kernels and, OS? I cannot find this question being asked anywhere and I have been scouring the internet for 2 days. I am rooted and running CWM recovery. I have been an avid modder since the release of the first Cyanogen mod for the T-Mobile G1. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't care how technically complicated it is. If it is AT ALL POSSIBLE,,, I just want to do it.
I am not trying to be mean in saying what I am about to say next so please, no one take this the wrong way.
If you do not know the answer to this question please do not post one. Do not post a response of NO just because that's what you've heard or assume is correct. I am posing this question to experienced developers NOT modders like myself who simply use others work for our devices. I did find in a Google search where someone posted a tutorial on how to do this but, for reasons that I am not aware, the thread was discontinued.
Thank you for any help. I refuse to give up on this. I've made it my mission and I will not quit until the phone explodes.

This paragraph is unnecessary. If we are posting in the QnA section we are either providing our knowledge or telling toy that this question has been answered already. There is rarely any trolling on here. (At least in this section) If we are replying to your question with an answer than it is probably the beat answer we can provide. if we reply with a few word response than take it. We do this on our free will. Take any reply you get seriously no matter how long the post.
Now on topic, you can only flash an m919 ROM on any other s4, besides the i9500. Not sure about radios, but DO NOT flash an m919 Kernel* on your Verizon s4. Only do it if you want a fancy paperweight.

I am here to help and provide knowledge to help others with there problems/issues. If you do have a question don't be afraid to shoot me a PM and I will help you and put you in the right direction to the best of my ability and will get your problem and/or issue solved.

I have been on here for years. there have been many times over the years that I have helped others do something that some said to be impossible and there are time when people have helped me do things that were said to be impossible. that paragraph was not aimed at you so do not take it personal. I've just been on here long enough not to be irritated by trollers but, rather by people who do not have any clue what they are talking about answering questions they do not know the answers to simply so they can attempt to look smarter than they are. if this does not apply to you then ignore that paragraph but, you cannot say that it wasn't necessary. You say, "we are providing our knowledge" this is a broad statement that you cannot make because you can only speak for yourself and those that you know personally. unfortunately there are many more than you and your friends on the internet. So if you understand that that wasn't directed at those that are helpful, there there is no need for debate
Thank you for the info though.
Not asking for debate not was I taking it personal, just informing that you don't need to add that extra paragraph. If you feel someone is trolling you then retort them

Verizon is CDMA, T-Mobile is GSM. Different radio hardware required.
There are both GSM and CDMA radios in the galaxy s4. That is how I'm using it on t mobile now. This has been a topic of discussion since the phone was released and responses have been back and forth as to whether it was possible to use it on a GSM network at all. then it was discovered that it is in fact a world phone.it is simply carrier locked which under normal circumstances would make you right however, mine is unlocked and able to utilize both. Thank you for your response.
