Smartwatch SW2 after updates - draining smartphone and no notifications - Sony Smartwatch 2

Hi All,
After updates to latest version (from Dec 2013) i can pair it with my LG L9, but none of the notifcations go through (from smartphone to watch), also cannot see recent SMSs nor emails (gmail) on the watch, despite the proper apps are installed. And my smartphone gets really hot, and gets drained at a rate of 20-25% of battery per hour (my LG9 used to last approx 3-4 days when paired with SW2 before updates, now 4-5h seems to be the max...).
Looks like the Android companion app for SW2 is buggy. I've tried various things, including uninstallation of Smart Connect/SW2/all apps and installation from scratch, multiple phone reboots, multiple watch resets. Pairs fine, shows its paired, but no notifications and battery drain. Using it now as a regular watch in disconnected mode, but that i could have for $20 and not $200....
Any ideas/suggestions?

In December there were 2 updates: the first for the smartphone Smartwatch 2 app and also for the SW2 firmware.
A few days ago there was a second update of the Smartwatch 2 app, this time without a firmware upgrade.
Did you perform both those updates?

I believe so. My current baseline is:
Smartwatch 2 app - 1.3.19 (from 13th Dec 2013)
Smart Connect - 5.4.8 (from 4th Oct 2013?)
Smartwatch firmware - 1.0.B.3.46/1.0.A.3.8 (with new watchfaces, stopwatch, etc).
My LG Swift L9 is on Android 4.1.2.
Cheers
tomaswoj

I have noticed too a higher drain of the phone battery and a higher consumption of the data.

I have the same software versions as you have and everything is like before. 4 to 5 days on a charge and no drain on the phone

Do you also have LG Swift L9? From the GT-N71000 note I assume not?

I've got a Note 2 and everything works fine

So, on 17th december, smartconnect app updated itself. after that, every morning, when I start the smartwatch, it refuses to pair with the phone, and trying to connect to phone app unsuccessfully. The solution is to uninstall and install again the smart connect on the phone (Note 3). So, every update from Sony comes with a bug. on 3th december, when they have updated the watch's firmware, it refuses to stop vibrate when receiving notification, even if i disable vibrate from watch's menu. Conclusion; Sony, make one Big update to fix this bugs, and, then, stop upgrade it, it seems to me that you suck at develop firmware/software. I am thinking switching from Smartwatch to gear.

An update on draining the battery and overheating:
Apparently when Smartwatch2 app (module) is up and running, and showing on the phone that Smartwatch is connected - the /system/bin/btld (Bluetooth daemon) eats up 50% of CPU. That results in battery drain mentioned. When i only kill the smartwatch2 (and can keep the Smart connect up and running) - btld goes down, below the noticable levels (even when bluetooth is still enabled).
There seems to be some serious flaw in Smartwatch 2 app.... From various comments looks like it reveals itself mostly on LG phones.
A 'workaround' would be probably to go back to the older version of the Smartwatch 2 app (not the smartconnect, BUT smartwatch 2 module) - but i see no way to get it from anywhere... . Tried via Sony Mobile support forums, but till now with no success.

I have nothing to compare it too, because I only got my SW2 at Christmas, but the battery on my Asus Fonepad is draining much quicker now than it was previously. The battery drained overnight in 8 hours or so with no actual use of the tablet/phablet.

No prob. SW2 + Note10.1 (A412)

Is your phone rooted? No, it's not the reason, but it may help.
Prosecutor: Objection! Judge - relevance?
Me: Your Honor, I have a point.
Judge: Sustained, you may proceed.
Hi thanks for the answer yes my phone is rooted
Cannot in any way connect the root status of the phone (?) to excessive drain on the watch.
First day of using it (got it yesterday) I got about 6 hours out of my watch. I went through playing with everything yesterday already, so not that much action today, only the regular Gmail and Hangouts notifications. Top consumer, as per the OP an unnamed app. I would have expected more from my watch, to be honest. Ideas?
Oh, and got the update notification for 5.0.2 directly after turning it on and pairing, so I'm on 5.0.2 already.

Hi, i got the same issue since i updated to 5.0.2. I used to get a full heavy use day and still remain 30%40% at the end of the day, after the update i only get 11-12 hours of use. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Note: My phone is also rooted.
I'm not fully through testing/verifying the following, but I made an obervation.
I used the watch the other day and got about 18+ hours out of it. Dont know exactly, just put it on the charger and was happy still having juice left.
The following day, all was going well up until to that moment I started using a timer app on my phone, which counted down at 5 minute intervals and showed a live updating notification doing so. I didnt pay attention to the watch, as the timer is phone only, but as I checked the watch at some point for something different, I noticed the battery dropped significantly since I last checked. Upon checking the battery stats, I found that the charge started dropping at about the moment I started continuously timering.
I take from this, that when using tools which interact with or update your phones notification drawer, the watch will get somehow polled as well. But I am still investigating.
In case you wonder: its an ingress portal hack countdown timer.
Question about settings?

Do you by chance have your dev options enabled on your device that your Moto 360 is connected to? If so, I did a test on my device to see if that was a battery hog on my Moto 360 and turns out it seems to be. Un-named app (android icon) showing the most usage but the graph I have shows upon Dev options enabled, battery began to plummet badly. Just an observation. I perform testing on mobile and wearable as part of my job but I didn't have a way to analyze any logs for this wearable (moto 360). I don't have Moto's log analysis tool.
I do have dev options enabled. But as the watch is now generally behaving well, I don't think it's connected but happened to you by accident. This is only a guess though.
To be honest, I'm on xda with a couple of posts made already, of course I have dev options enabled  I use plenty of tools day in day out which need dev options. I also on a regular basis manipulate my device via adb, so dev options really is a must.
Anyway, I will observe this some more and get back to this thread in case I find any new developments.

September security patch only.
I installed this update (OTA) and the battery barely lasts 24h. I did factory reset and paired with phone, issue persists.
It always managed to pull 2 whole days in the last year or so.
Yea, same here. Barely lasts a day and has had issues charging after it dies...

It's a terrible update, ruins the watch!
Do you guys have Lifelog installed on your phone? I had the same issue with Lifelog installed. Battery would drain about 6-7% per hour. Once uninstalled I am back to 2 day battery life. There seems to be some issue with Lifelog in the latest update.
Ooh, i think so. Thanks.

anyone getting no notifications of non-google apps with this update?
already made a factory reset twice and works for some days but then start again, just google notifications until I reboot a couple of times

Terrible battery life since Android 10

Since the latest update of Android 10, my phone will not even last me a day. I've asked Google Assitant if my battery is bad and it told me it's fine. But I can do 30 min of light new reading and it's dropped by 20%, previously I could easily get an hour of Reddit and reading and it would drop to 90-91%.
I've tried many things, like clearing cache of Google App and Google Play Service but it still drains. I have no apps running the background that I see are taking a lot of resources.
Try a custom kernel; there are a number of good ones out there. I use caesium.
I'm using latest: 10 factory image, EX kernel, twrp, and magisk.
Today I was at 2hr 55 min with 47% remaining, and my overnight drain is about 6%, which are both about the same as what I was getting on 9x.
IIRC "wi-fi and BT scanning" (location) were turned ON by default when I switched to 10, so I turned them off. Not sure how much, if any, additional drain that might cause.
Yes...this ^^^; I am experiencing the same as well...
I noticed I used to have such excellent battery life on my 2XL, but no longer... I used to use it pretty hard (SOT plus apps like GPS or streaming music/video), and still have a good percentage leftover at the end of the day (15-20%)....
I'm unsure what, if anything specific, might be causing such the drain, but I "chalked" it up to the new OS version....maybe it's inadvertently attempting to sense off-screen gestures for all i know (which would be an understandable loop with that being a Pixel 4 particular and makes sense of the drain)...
Just some basic info on my device: October patch, Magisk v20, custom kernel: Caesium (successor of the legend Flash kernel), AOD is enabled, manual brightness but usually at 80%-ish, “Saturated” color scheme, Dark theme enabled (in both Display settings and in Developers settings), “Optimizing battery use” is enabled for most apps….

Thanks my battery is good. Although it's only been 10 months. I hope dark mode is supported in more apps specially WhatsApp, Chrome and Facebook. That will help the battery even more.
October update is really buggy. I didn't like it at all
My battery life is about the same. But my phones takes WAY longer to charge esp if i am not using a google quick charger.

[Huawei watch GT2 - FW 1.0.9.58] BATTERY DRAIN

After I received the upgrade to 1.0.9.58 couple of days ago I am facing serious battery drain on my GT2.
Before my GT2 last easily 7-10 days. After the FW upgrade I went to 1,5 day only !!!!
I did not changed anything in my GT2 settings or android Health app settings. I am using just default watch face no custom faces.
•I tried to reset the GT2 directly from watch display. - doesn` t help
•Than I tried to restore to default settings form android Health app - doesn` t help
•I switched off all monitoring functions (heart/stress/sleep) - only small improvement
• at the end I reinstalled the android health app completely - nothing changed
In 21hrs I had a drop of -45% from battery. I have them just 1 year so battery life should be fully ok...
Is there somebody else facing the same problem ?
Any Idea how to fix ?
I am desperate already
Unfortunately i have the same problems, although mine last 3 day's.
That last update was a really bad one! I have seen many people having problems with their gt after this update! Including me with no connection for calls.

Not on the watch!
I also upgraded my GT2 to this firmware version a couple of days ago, hoping for the inclusion of SPO2 function but nothing.
BTW there truly is a significant drop in battery life since. It's actually like 20% battery per day instead of 12%~15% battery per day before.
Hope Huawei fixes this ASAP.
Battery after 6 day's 15% power without stress and heart beats.Only sleep mode is on and automatic screen opening with hand gesture.
The important problem after the last update is the missed calls. Now show only the number and not the name of the contact.
Before I do not have this problem.
Can you suggest me a solution to this problem?

Just reset my GT2 today to see if the battery life is improving...
i am also on that new firmaware, and not facing any issue. charged watch last monday, 5.10.., and till today battery is on 23%.
I also have a lot of battery consumption, only notifications, sleep and pulse are on. restarting to factory settings did not help. frimware 1.0.9.58. will there be any new updates?
I've sent my GT2pro to service as they are still under warranty. Service did changed the motherboard and admit the issue. (Battery drain, random freazing)
Now I am back at FW 1.0.8.16 with blocked auto updates in Health app. Nobody will persuate me to update into 1.0.9.58. ....Will wait for the next release in the row

Yes the last version before the 1.0.9.58 was the best, has all the latest updates and great battery life. I've been able to go through the entire week without charging and it still has like 25% left.
With the current firmware version I struggle to reach the 5th day before the battery goes red.
Just got a Honor Watch magic 2 42 mm and it updated itself automatically (or I updated it unconsciously) on setup. I'm facing the same problems as you describe. I know the 42mm has half the battery life, but it barely achieves 2 days with smart heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking so I searched for my software version and ended up here. If someone else can give feedback about the 42mm appreciated.
Thank for the thread and the info.
Same problem
Since that update, I only have 8 hours batterylife (I have the 42mm version). Still don't know after weeks what it causes.
on 1.0.9.58 i dont have any battery drain, but i see that watch is not counting steps correctly. When i wake at night and do some steps and when i check its saying 0 steps and then also sleep tracker saying that i was not awake.
Any idea when to expect next update? (.....after 1.0.9.58)

Question Any solutions for Pixel 6 Pro with Android 13 not draining battery on Wear OS watches?

I have been having this issue since updating my phone (Pixel 6 Pro) to Android 13. The battery life of my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (SM-R890) has tanked. I used to get 2+ days of battery life with the watch and after the Android 13 update I got well less than a day. Many people on reddit have the same issue. It is not related to the watch, Other Wear OS watches are having same issue (like TWP3). This appears to be a Bluetooth issue with phone. When I turn off Bluetooth on my phone, my watch is back to 2+ days. In the Sept. update bulletin It said "Fix for issue occasionally preventing certain Bluetooth devices or accessories from connecting". I was hopeful that the Sept. update would fix this issue but alas it does not. I have the Verizon Sept. update (TP1A.220905.004.A1). I currently turn off Bluetooth on my phone so my watch's battery does not drain. It kind of sucks having a smart watch not connected to phone. Does anyone know if there is a way to resolve this issue?
I have the exact same watch and pixel 6 pro, I am not experiencing this issue. Although I do not use google assistant, which was draining my phone and the watch like crazy as you report, after stopping to use I stopped having problems. August update Android 13 galaxy watch app was draining the crap out of my phone, to the point I mostly disabled it and manually allowed the sync, again after Samsung software updates and Sept build all of this has gone away again.
August update was so crap I also did a factory reset of the phone no restore to try to fix all of this, and other issues with Bluetooth, made no difference. With September update almost all these issues have gone away.
If you upgraded from 12 -13 not factory reset I would recommend doing that.
Or backup the watch and reset it, making sure you remove the watch for bluetooth devices on the phone before, so it sets up clean as a bluetooth device.
Do you think that if I disable Assitatant on phone this could resolve issue? I use this feature very infrequently. I do not have installed on watch. I did upgrade from from 12 to 13 as apposed a factory reset. I'm fine doing phone reset though a bit more work (backing up texts, photos, etc.). I did reset of watch after A13 update but pre sept update. Do you think resetting watch now after sept update could resolve? Thanks for your help!
It's Samsung health that's draining the battery. I rolled back to the July version of Samsung health and battery is great. You can also turn off Samsung health permission to "physical activity" and that will help. The problem is the August update for Samsung Health basically keeps keeps the app running constantly on Android 13 because it's trying to sense all physical activity from your phone and doesn't allow the phone to deep sleep. It's interesting because if you roll back to the July build of Samsung Health, you can keep the physical activity permissions on and it doesn't have the deep sleep issue.
Sorry to tell you I'm not experiencing this. I get a good 2.5-3 days of battery life with samsung health and everything running as normal on Android 13 and the latest GW4 update.

Yes, absolutely, do a search for something like huge battery drain after google assistant launches on watch 4, you will see it littered everywhere and the recommendation was to uninstall it. Quick and easy test, then if it makes no difference then just install it again.
