It doesn't look like much can be done until we get recovery.
I've built a stock, debloated, deodexed rom but cant test without recovery.
I've tried to compile recovery but I am afraid it's beyond my expertise.
Let me know if I can help

I spent my free time arguing today didn't even see your reply til now. I'll see what's up tomorrow before work though and I believe a rom can be flashed via stock recovery if done right. .. Maybe I think I read somewhere we can sideload? Worth investigation if you have a rom to test yaknow but use caution

Stock recovery has sideload but I tried the rom with no luck. I did the update via sideload on my good phone (regretting it now) and it worked.
maybe because its signed by samsung.

Yeah there's another step and I think that's the updater script that has to be altered to mimic Samsung or ported to your rom but I am just throwing you ideas for now. Hope it helps

Wishful thinking from a non-developer:
- debloated AOSP
- deodexed
- overclocking
- fast charge
- mount as usb storage
- cwm recovery
While all of these things are what I'd love to see, fast charge is a big one. I use my phone as a GPS navigator on my motorcycle, powered via USB outlet. I'm not sure about this model but my PRIOR phones would lose battery power faster than the usb outlet would charge. Fast charge settings options would remedy this.
I've never built a rom. I think it's time I read up and learn why I don't have what it takes to build one hahaha.

what?

Knox bootloader, wondering if stock out the box comes with it or if the ota update is the bringer of it. .

Hey justlove, any developments on a CWM Recovery install?

Progress is slow but we're getting there..
Just got a pm that will potentially give us a break.

Oh man ... fingers crossed. Let me know if I can be of any help.

I would love to see a cyanogenmod version for this phone.
Thanks,

I've been in frequent contact with justlovejoy over the last few days and we have been working diligently to get everything needed together. We are working on it and one or both of us will give updates as they become available.

If by "New" you mean some super meaningful "OMGOSH We're almost there!" type update... No.
All I can really say is that we are still working on it. I believe justlove and I are going to be a pretty good team, we are in daily contact with each other and are working as hard as we can given the circumstances.
I know this is going to sound like normal dev bull s**t but please try to be patient and I'll let you know when we reach certain milestones.

Knowledge ftw.
Knowledge.
AND...a big part of it for me...
Is getting ADB/Fastbooot set up...so that we know it's working.
That way...if they come in one day with something wrong:
They:
A) Know what I'm asking them to do.
B) Know that everything is set up correctly...and we don't have to diagnose driver problems and such while the phone is bricked.
If a phone won't boot and all that noise...
ADB/Fastboot might not be working.
But if the user never GOT ADB/Fastboot working to begin with...we'll never know if they did it right or if the phone is simply in that bad of shape.
OP:
What I said sounds scary.
Just do ONE thing...never flash the stock .img's through fastboot that aren't for your device. (Radios/Bootloaders) Flashing the wrong recovery isn't going to brick you...you just won't have a recovery.
That is the big one that seems to get people into hard (or relatively hard) bricked situations.
And you'll be fine.

There is nothing wrong with using a toolkit, IFF you already know what is actually happening when using the toolkit.
I like to think of it this way: in school, they don't let you use a calculator until they teach you how to do arithmatic. Why do you think that is? Because you would never learn to add and subtract.
It's the same issue with a toolkit. It you don't do things manually first, you will never learn...

the toolkit works fine, but if he has no idea what he is doing and just blindly goes with what it says and stuff breaks, he has no idea how to fix it.
i would rather him understand what he did so if he has issues, we can help him get everything back in order and he will understand what we are asking him to do.

It's not any more complicated. Don't worry about odex and stuff. Just stay in the development threads here and flash what you like. Not trying to be mean here but these types of threads are not necessary. Just make a nandroid and flash away and see what best fits your needs. Each rom is subject to opinion. I use slimfast and have had no issues with it.

I keep asking questions, and you give me other replies rather than answers... If might be straightforward and easy for you. and maybe screwing around with a $350 phone is no issue for you.. but me.. not so much.
"In theory you should be fine if you do dirty flash from another 4.3 rom such as DN3 v1.0 or SN10
We recommend TWRP 2.6.3.1 to flash this rom.
You need 4.3 boot loader.
Have both TWRP and latest CWM on your external SD Card along with Ditto Note 3.1.1
Flash TWRP 2.6.3.1, go into Wipe and slide to do the Factory Reset."
This is not straight forward to me.. since I have no idea if I have a 4.3 bootloader - says I HAVE TO HAVE ONE.
TWRP is at 2.7 now .. is there a reason he says to use 2.6.3.1??? on a rom that was updated 3 days ago??
These are the things that bother me.. I am not interested in bricking my phone.
If you dont want to help.. fine, But explanations for the terms used above are not coming up in searches, unless I want to read a ton of threads.. so I thought someone might answer for me.

If that's what the developer says to use then use it. I would say he knows why to use 2.6.3.1 but that's not really important. Samsung phones are very hard to brick if you follow the directions. I'm no expert dude, all I do is follow the directions in the OP. If you do that you will be fine. What were you running prior to slim fast? If you're not sure you have the bootloader you can just flash it again.

I tried to be clear that this was for the tutorial, not needed for you...yet.
If you are going to flash a ROM, even via FlashFire, I believe that you will trip Knox. Same with a custom kernel. (Joe, can you ask a dev?) That said, if flashing a ROM is in your future or if you want to include this in your tutorial, then you might as well flash and use TWRP. And if you flash TWRP, you should flash the patch.
Joe, I hope to see you on the Dark Side soon...we have cookies! (And some pretty cool ROMS!)

Since this thread is very active thought id ask...any HTC One type skins or themes available?

How do you root the new TW 5.1.1 Lollipop on T-900?

Has anyone figured this out yet? I tried, and got the TWRP recovery installed, (although at the top of the screen when booting to TWRP it said in red letters, Not enforcing SElinix ?) anyway, then I tried to flash the SU superuser and it boot looped. So I am back at the beginning after managing to get back into TWRP and wiped, and re flashed the new 5.1.1 again. Has anyone else had any luck with this? I haven't tried CF autoroot yet, and to be honest I'm really scared to after this.
edit...someone else tried the CF autoroot, and it too boot looped their tab. This doesn't look good.

Thats well beyond my skills. Thanks tho, but there isn't many developers for our t-900, so it looks like we may have to put up with bloatware for a while.
If/when the 10.1 lollipop update comes out I might take a stab at it... But no promises. I used to do stuff for the Tab 2 10.1 until it broke... And that was using the old Android kitchen. I've never used the new one...
I haven't done any dev work in over a year, and even then it was pretty basic! Lol just a couple of ports and pre-rooted roms.

Why don't you try it?
I'm trying to DL the FW right now, but at this rate I won't have it until sometime tomorrow. Pretty annoying server.
ps. if you try flashfire, make sure you set your tablet date back a month in order to make flashfire think the beta isn't over (it won't work if it sees the date as past September 1).
I'm not sure how flash fire will help since we are already flashed to 511

Progress Report?

With kernals we're close to root and twrp, perhaps xposed.
Anyone who's working for/with able to provide a progress report?
Perhaps a test boot.img?
Update 23.12.17 Proof that root is possible by Xshooter726
Update: 28.12.17 by DarkestSpawn
1, A/B partitioning needs smoothed out in twrp
2, Wi-Fi driver issues in twrp
3, no factory images for those that don't read through all the subdirectories and rush things and brick their device
4, waiting on the generous purchase delivery of a Razer phone to be delivered to Dees_Troy
5, Still in the holiday time frame, peeps have real life things to take care of.
6, other things in the background being chatted with between the devs and tester(s)

Soppy message:
You guys are amazing and sharing the work that you do for your own devices with us makes you incredibly generous. I cant begin to explain how grateful I am that after spending all of that time and risking bricks you simply hand over a solution and specific instructions so we can do the same.
Thank you so much. :3
Tldr: ty!
No one has extracted a boot image yet.

This doesn't belong in the dev thread. I know its related to dev, but it should be in the question and answer thread.

Yes we have a full systems dump including the boot.img :highfive:
Jcadduono has all the files and is working his magic. The guy is a freaking pro. I'm glad I was able to test and provide him with the files.
Awesome! SOO many of us been waiting for this lol time to unlock the true potential of this phone.. I can only imagine what they will be able to do with it.
I'd be happy with root right now so we can mod the **** outta this thing and install a custom kernel till we get something like RR or LOS. Hell maybe I'll even try Xposed finally lol
How's this for your progress report?

I will let jcaddunono do the release. It is to risky to release this in its current state although root is stable. Without a way to do a full system restore you could end up with a brick.
We may need some testers when ready... till then hang tight guys
Please don't ask for ETAs

DUDE NOT COOL! Don't tease that **** lol
but seriously thank you for working to get this done together. I've never actually owned a phone before twrp or root was established and the suspense is figuratively killing me. I would have been right there throwing my phone in the pot for testing purposes but it's my daily driver since my old phone died on me
Well keep working on it and we will just have to wait (im)patiently for the results and keep mashing reload several times a day lol

If possible can you share only boot.img?I've problem to build twrp from source and want verify somethings
This phone is honestly starting to get dull without root, im dying to make changes that razor will take another year to implement.
Out of interest, what does everyone else intend to do?
I've got a few lines to add to the build.prop ?

Then impatiently wait for an oreo rom to install lol

Sounds cool.. You guys care to share exactly what sort of tweaks your thinking of in the build prop :good:
https://thedroidguru.com/15-best-android-build-prop-tweaks-must-try-2017/
These have a few of the more popular tweaks.. But as you go you find more that work specifically for each phone.
Camera2 API - this phones camera is capable of so much more.
Also being on a carrier version meant I didn't get the full update Min tweeted about. The phone in its current state is a bit like an android version of an iPhone.
Maybe add Viper too, the convolver would be a nice addition to Dolby experience.
Anyone else have a vision?
