[Q] Should I keep my HTC One X or move to the Moto G? - HTC One X

I've posted this on Reddit, but I want to know the opinion of my HOX community.
Here goes:
I have my very loved HTC One X (International) with me at the moment. I've been happy with it after a year and a half.
My phone has the HOX wifi fault. And the battery life barely gives me 2-3 hours screen on time. I've tried underclocking, flashed custom roms, kernels, etc. But the battery still doesn't last me within the day. Not even until noon.
But I've been reading pretty good stuff about the Moto G and it's hardcore battery life.
I know that somehow I'm downgrading. I'll miss the slightly larger screen though. Also, I don't care about the camera, because I have my Canon EOS M with me which I can copy pictures to the phone via USB OTG.
Would it be worth it if I sell my HOX and get that one? Or do you have a phone to recommend me? I'm planning to get a Pebble smartwatch too if ever.
P.S. I'll be able to sell my hox for like $220-ish here in the Philippines. My cousin is in the US at the moment for the holiday season. So I have my way to get that phone.
--------------
I know that the kernel sources came out, which means some more tinkering. But I just can't shake the fact that there's little support for the Tegra 3. What's your verdict?

I would sell it just for the battery alone, It's cheaper too if you can sell yours for what you said!

And i am thinking about sell hox ant take nexus 4. But more i think, more i want to keep it

Help Needed....

Hi all,
My situation is this:
Moved from Sensation to i4s 3 months ago (didn't want an iPhone, but the bundle deal with the new iPad meant I got the iPad for free and I really wanted the iPad)
Can't get used to the proxy 3.5" screen, so looking to flog the iPhone and sign up to a cheap contract for either the One X or S3. I fell in love with the specs and looks of the OX as soon as it was announced, but now the tales of battery woes, screen woes, etc etc has left me wondering what to do.
I have done hours of reading, and it seems the S3 is the faster phone, but the looks of the OX are in my opinion ahead (also looks more premium I feel). Screen is a toss-up in terms of quality, and comes down to amoled or slcd.
So all you folks who have the OX, if you were in my position but knowing what you know now about the phone and the upcoming S3, what would you do.....
Order the OX, free phone, £21.50 a month, phone with in 3 days.
per-order the S3, free phone, £29 a month, 30th May ( or maybe after).
I won't use the contract at all so what it comes with doesn't matter.
Help a man out please guys.....
Thanks
Stokie
I had to do the choice (but I bought my HOX off contract) between HOX and S III, too and I chose the HOX because it looks better and hasn't a pentile screen
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
I would chose the One X, but then i haven't had any problems at all with mine & i often get 36 hours or more between charges.
The One X does look better & in my opinion as its unibody it will be stronger than the SGS3.
Still its down to personal choice.
I also picked unbranded as you get updates quicker.
hard to say my friend.. i was in two minds as well...if you are a fan about specs then the S3 is the one for you. if you are after a phone with better user experience then One X is the one for you..if i had a choice what to choose id go for the S3 just for the pure reason it is easier to root and easier to flash kernels, modems and roms. It is hard. I am only saying the s3 due to the fact i had the s2..but the one x has potential it is really what you are looking for..both phones are great and whatever you choose you will not miss out
Thanks for taking the time to respond guys.
HOX ordered in White. Hope I get a "no defect" handset!!

There are thousands of fault free handsets out there, only those with faults tend to vent their frustration on the forums.
Good choice.

Buying One X

I am currently HTC Sensation user, and planning to buy HTC One, can you instruct me is it worth changing and switching from sensation to oneX, I mean how is batt. compare to sensation (I bought new one not on stock Anker 1900mah), I know oneX is a lot faster with that quad core cpu and nvidia gpu, tell me all info's I need to know, I already did a little reasearch by my own on google and gsmarena and sites like that, but I need some experienced users to tell me.
And can you someone tell me about unlocking when I unlock him on htcdev and do a nandroid backup in case I have to restore original rom, in bootloader I saw it's not locked anymore it's relocked when people are restoring original rom, so he is not locked anymore, and in service they can see that I unlock him before, am I right or I get something wrong ?
Thank you.

Hello, I think it's worth the change from sensation, through I don't know how the batt is on sensation, on my 3 months old Hox the batt lasts at least a day with heavy use and custom kernel, if you go for this phone don't expect good battery. I'm very satisfied with it, and I love its screen. And yes, in service they can tell its unlocked, I unlocked my the 2nd day I bought, and replaced because dead pixels, I gave it rooted and unlocked, so generally it's not a problem when it's hardware related issue. Through, if you can buy Htc ONE, I would go for that, I fell in love with it when I saw it and hold in hand, but I think it's not worth to change my hox as it would get sense 5 ver.
Tnx for all the info. My batt. on sensation not that stock one I'm talking about anker 1900mAh that I replaced with stock, lasts for about day and a half sometimes two depends on use.
Hmm don't know if they would change it here in my country if phone is unlocked and have hardware issue, becouse you can damage his hardware by overclocking it or something. And I think it's very risky to go in service with phone like that even if you relock it, they will know, and probably won't do replacement, becouse in my country they are very strict about that (****ty country).
Uhh I know that HTC One is dope phone, but it costs too much now cause it's new, and for htc one x I got good deal and price so why not go for it then, so I decided to search a little and ask here before my final decision.
P.S
So there is not other way to unlock it, except by HTCdev ?

Well if that's your country in your description then we live in same town, lol . I got it changed in the first 7 days, I think they will do it (based on my experience with other phones), if not then contact HTC, generally as I know they (HTC) don't do any problems for hardware damage. I didn't regret at all buying it. But I think many people here will tell you to get N4.
Ooh we are lol I didn't see
I think I'll buy it next week. What is N4 ?

Oh....I will never buy n4, don't like phone without sense.
Before going with HTC One X, how about One X+? It's a better device (hardware-wise).
The only drawback is in term of customization/tweaking. The only kernel in developing is Maxwen's one, and he isn't interested into developing a Sense based kernel (only for AOKP/AOSP).
Get the One
It has way better battery life (reports on German forums) and is way more future proof than the One X

I dont see the use of the hox+, it has also less roms available. And we also have kernels that ramp up to 1700 mhz

I got a good price for that One X, and One X+ cost way more here in my country than One X, so thats the main reason.

I mentioned this as an drawback ("less customization" in terms of kernels/ROM's). Taking the software drawbacks away, you will get glonass, better front camera and the speaker's amplifier (clearer voice at high sound output *good while driving*). Do I need to mention about Tegra 3 and variant 3/4 and OC/UV possibilities?
Regarding 1700mhz, sure but did you know that Kozmikkick achieved that by increasing the CPU stock voltage + returning GPU voltage to stock (by the way he is having variant 2).
Let's admit it, our chip is literally a hot chip! Our solution is UV/Under-clocking it, the other way around of doing it (with full respect to developers) is basically a pure none-sense. Our 2nd solution of reducing our phone's temperature is replacing it's battery with One X+ or modding LG 4X battery (this is added to the cost of the phone).

Actually I took the time to read couple your replies to realize HTC One is out of your budge (hence why I didn't mention it).
You seem like you already decided to go with HTC One X (make sure it's 32GB and NOT 16GB), also check for Galaxy S3 prices if the difference is negligible go with Galaxy S3 (better DAC, and you could install Beats).

I have the 16Gb version and I have plenty of space, and the difference in prize to the 32Gb was quite big. The combination of 10Gb and dropbox or similar is great. And I would not go for S3, a friend of mine has it, and after month or two the whole plastic is covered with small scratches, it looks horrible, and it was 2 times in repair shop because of the speaker. And it's overpriced.

32GB here. With 1.27GB free for apps ,and 2.72GB free (for storing files).
I bought an SGS3 (early batch) since the release date. I used it for a while, then got myself HOX. It's currently with my brother, and it's working fine with him (no scratches at all).
You dare speaking about repairs? Think about it this way, at least Samsung fixed your friend's phone ,and unlike HTC care which is having one of the worst service centers ,that I had to deal with. Let's just say they didn't fix any of the issues I am facing with my One X, with exception to the wireless defect.
Currently SGS3 price is near $399 and it seems to me like an acceptable price (this is my opinion).
Anyway I am here trying to give an advice, not to force my opinion.
I'll not be wasting my time, so I am not going to respond here anymore.
Good luck to Thermaltake (in whatever he picks).

Lol, it wasn't my attention to say which service is better, or getting in any kind of argue. I'm only saying my experience, which isn't the same on everyone. And no, Samsung didn't fix the issue, its worse, because now the speaker is ok, but when earphones are plugged there is no sound. And its not earphone problem.

Buy vzw HTC ONE now or wait for the nexus 5?

Hey all-
I am in the middle of a dilemma, I currently own a VZW galaxy nexus and it is on its last leg. The battery is shot, takes forever to connect calls, and is slow. I have been trying to baby it till the nexus 5 comes out but it is so annoying using a phone that is slow. I have been looking into the HTC one (my previous phone was the HTC incredible and I loved it). But I cant decide if I should try and wait for the N5? I understand that the HTC One as of now cannot achieve S-off/Root, but I am assuming it is only a matter of time till developers crack it.(thank you to all the great developors on XDA!) so what would you do in my situation? Wait for the N5 or go with the One?
I am really drawn to the one for the metal body and the new sense seems pretty nice, IMHO the S4 is to gimmiky.

Who's to say that the Nexus 5 is coming to Verizon unless you plan on switching carriers.. You weren't really clear on that aspect. There is a great deal of new devices that are coming out soon which should make for an exciting fall and Q4..
Also on a side note never buy a device with the assumption that the developer community will unlock, root, s-off the device you plan to buy. With devices coming out so frequently and OEMs becoming smarter with the way they are locking down their devices it's a game of cat and mouse or hit or miss if you will......
I recently purchased the HTC One just because it's an amazing device, that is with the hopes the the real deal hackers crack the bootloader to achieve s-off, unlock, root etc...
Right now I am in the same boat. I have waited this long what's another month or two to see what the Nexus 5 has in store?
Yes it may mean changing carriers which sucks but Verizon has done everything to sabotage the htc one (4 months late, no black model, quickly locking it down) that they no longer deserve my business...
So I will wait to see what the fall phones bring before making a decision at this point.
As soon as you wait for one device to arrive, another ridiculous phone is right around the corner. It's an endless cycle.
I was in the same boat. HTC Incredible > Galaxy Nexus > ? I considered the Nexus 5 but between the solid rumors it is going to be an LG (my least favorite oem) and the fact VZW let the N4 pass it by I opted to go with the HTC One.
Got it day 2 expecting to unlock it. No such luck but not having root after coming from a Gnex has not been a big deal. The HTC One is sooo awesome compared to the Gnex. The only things I miss from root/roms is long press back button kill (more of a habit than an issue), some of the Sense screens (Like the battery usage screen). They are such picky things I have no regrets moving to the One.
Did I mention that while my Gnex needed 1 to 2 charges throughout the day to make it to bedtime but the one can stay off the charger and with similar usage has 40% left. With heavy usage I got to 14% once after 16 hours on battery. Battery and sluggishness drove me to a new phone and I am glad it was the HTC One.
I agree with all of you, however I plan on staying with vzw.... What phones other than the n5 are coming out? There is the new lg buy I cannot stand the volume rocker on the back....is there any other phones that have been confirmed to be with big red?

Yeah I would assume the Note 3 would most likely come to Verizon as well being that it is the primary and most popular phablet to date..
Nexus 5 definitely won't show up on Verizon. The only other great phone left this year on Verizon will likely be the G2. That looks to be even more powerful than the HTC One and a larger screen. I don't care for it because its LG and their android skin is horrendous. I also could never get a plastic phone after having an HTC One. Its your call though of course!
I've sort of stopped playing the "should I get it or wait?" game because the smartphone market has just become so insane. Once you get a phone, a newer, better one is right around the corner. I got the HTC One knowing the bootloader got locked up, and I'm really enjoying it...even stock it's nice. I mean, I can't wait to put other roms on it, but nevertheless, it's awesome.
I also had a similar smartphone trajectory. OG Droid -> DInc-> GNex
In April I bought the S4, but really wanted The One. So last week I sold my s4 on craigslist and bought The One. It is fantastic as is. My contract is finally up in December, and coincidentally my discount expired this month. So if the N5 comes out and looks substantially better than The One, I will sell The One on swappa or craigslist or ebay. My point is go ahead and buy the phone, if you want something newer in the future you can always sell it and get another phone, though you may take a small loss. The One is amazing and although 6 months old I can hardly believe it will feel "outdated" in even a year....
encyvrs providence
I would stop waiting and just get the one. I came from the GNexus and the one is better in every way. faster, better screen, better battery, better speakers and sound etc.
My thought is that if there is a phone out I want I'll get it vs waiting. If you decide to wait for the next best thing you'll never get a phone. They come out so fast now.
sent from my blue police box flying through time.....
Thanks for all of your responses! I think I am going to go ahead and get the one! I am in the design industry and I have been waiting for a beautiful android and the one is it! Going out this week and getting it,
The N5 will most likely not be anywhere near Verizon/Sprint so might as well get a One.

I would get a one now if it has the nokia microphones and I think they still carry this feature. One HTC runs out of stock for these you probably won't see them in any other device in the future other than windows phones since microsoft is buying nokia. I listened to a few comparison videos on youtube and those microphones make a huge difference in recording capability. Htc ones with these mics will probably have high resale value later on down the road.

I bought the one...it was nice. I returned it and am waiting for the Moto X to hit retail stores so I can Czech it out. I like as stock of an Android experience as possible, and the X looks like the best choice in that dept.
With the One, the build is awesome, the screen is great and the front facing speakers are amazing. The overlay I didn't care for (icons still remind me of my 2.2 Thunderbolt) and I thought the camera was terrible (even in direct comparison to my aging S3).
But, I think right now it's at least in the top 2 phones on Verizon, and I don't think you can go wrong with it.

They are buying the Nokia Mobile for $7 billion.

Would Anyone Take A Punt On This without Seeing Reviews First

What with the rumours going round it will be launched same day, would anyone here actually go out and buy it on launch day without seeing any reviews first.
I'd like to say I was that brave but the truth is the battery life on my HTC One is so average / bad I'd be worried to stick down that amount of cash for a sub standard battery.
I intend to go out and get it as soon as possible, but I have seen more of the device than the average non-xda consumer.
I'm definitely going to get one ASAP. Been saving up since I got the original. I think this version Will be the version I'll stick with for a few years ?
Don't get me wrong, I love the original version. But the extendable memory is definitely a plus in this year's version.

Just like many others, the 2300 battery on the One lasted all day, so 2600mah will be an upgrade.
I did with the One X+ that literally no one new about and I don't regret it. It sucks today only cus of the tiny battery and HTC thinking a Tegra 3 chip overclicned was a smart idea but outside of charging my phone 2-3x a day, love it. If I didn't have to wait til April 16th to cancel my contract with ATT to switch to Verizon I would be at a Verizon store tomorrow the moment they opened. Specifically the one my friend manages so he has my device set aside waiting for me . But will have to wait, no biggie.

Will you be upgrading from the HTC One M7?

Will you/did you upgrade from the M7 to the M8? If you're sticking with the M7 why?
I'm not sure? I'm interested to hear other's opinions.

I upgraded from the M7, you can't go wrong either way. The M7 was the best smart phone I've ever had but I like to have the latest things so I took the plunge for the M8. The two very small gripes with my M7 were the purple tint issue and the battery life. After 8+ months of ownership I was only just getting a day on battery if that on light/moderate usage. The M8s battery life is 40% better than the M7 so that is a huge increase. The purple tint issue has also been fixed. It's not a huge upgrade and if I were tight on money I could EASILY of kept the M7 till 2015. Your choice. This might get locked as it's a phone comparison thread but hey ho.
Thanks for your thoughts.. I agree about the battery. 12 months on I can certainly see the decay.
I hope this doesn't get locked as it is useful to those like me who have the previous model and are debating to upgrading to the next generation.
I understand comparison threads being closed, but this is discussing the same manufacturer and practically the same model, just the upgraded version. Normally flame wars happen between other OEMs like Samsung and HTC.
I imagine this thread would be useful to others who are undecided on wether to splash out of commit for another 2 years on a device that may in the real world seem just the same as the M7
Hope we can keep this discussion going!:fingers-crossed:

Same as me. I had a play with one at the O2 store today. Gotta say... its the finest looking mobile phone I've ever seen. Gun metal grey is defo the best. I'm thinking of getting one from Three tomorrow on PAYG. £459!
but I have an M7 and its in perfect condition and will have Sense 6 soon making almost the same as the M8. Is it really worth spending the money???
Have a DE on order. Loved the M7. Best phone I have ever had. Can't wait for the phone to arrive.
Yes that's exactly my predicament.. £470 for.... Looks.. which you can't see when your holding it.. a depth sensor.. and that's it really... Isn't it?
And Sense 6 coming soon.. well already here really, had it on yesterday for a while, but not officially out yet.
But.. I do want one. That's a lot of nice things I could get for my motorbike though lol.
I have T-Mobile JUMP, so I'll be trading in my M7 for the M8.
As of right now, I have another $300 to go before my M7 is paid off. On ebay, a used M7 goes for around $250.. and then you minus some shipping and ebay fees.
Definitely not worth it for me to just stick with the M7.

How exactly does JUMP work? I'm eligible for it now as well but obviously haven't used it before. Do you ever get to have both phones at the same time so you can transfer information, or do you literally go in the store with one phone and come out with the other?

That I'm actually not sure about. I was planning to back up all my stuff to my computer myself.

You have to backup everything because you will never have both phones at the same time. You literally bring the old phone to the store, they inspect it for screen and water damage, they set up the new phone for you (they'll set up your GMail and sync the two for you) and then you walk out.
And yes, as soon as T-Mobile gets it in store, I'm using my JUMP for it. There's no reason not to since if I don't like it I can just use my second JUMP credit to trade it for something else (which I will consider doing when the 805 devices roll out).

That makes sense. What if you do the process online? I'm wondering if they would send you the device then you could take your current device to the store to trade it in.

How is going from 2300 to just 2600 (300 increase) a 40% better?

It's not just the mah that matters. You have the more efficient SoC, better optimizations... Stuff like that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Not sure if its actually 40% (could you link to source?) but I've definitely read that the M8 gets better battery life than the M7 from several reviews.
Well, i will get mine soon. Thanks to all SkyDragon user via donation! Max, butterfly, hox and m7 users.
I couldn't keep my hox, should sell it to get m7... But this time its different, i keep m7 and will get m8.
Why? Mostly for cooking reasons. All my team has m7 and today 6 of them has also m8.
The rest will jump soon too, we are like 40 hahaha.
I love design, sense 6, well.. All.
Doesn't mean m7 is old, i still very happy with it. But also want to taste new m8. Im curious about dot case and sense 6.
About battery, m7 got good battery, screen, best devs and roms. And soon m8.
Btw,i will release our first SkyDragon rom soon, if someone wants to join my team to be tester, or has code skilz or theming skilz, just pm.
Well done HTC, again best phone of the year! No doubt.
Have to state that. If i should keep my m7 only, im Happy too as we are getting Sense 6 soon, also dot cover
Literally just upgraded from the M7 two hours ago. Wow. Seriously just wow. I just tried out the camera, the effects are really cool. It is super mega smooth. The new SoC is very power efficient and fast. Definitely feels better too. Also glad to be rid of the purple camera tint.
