[Q] Power and charging - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hello, I read a youtube review that the charging for this device is 2A. She mentioned that it will take an entire night to charge the device. Moreover, while using the device during charging, it is possible that usage is faster than charging and the device runs out of power. Is this really true? Is there any better charger to charge the device quickly?

I have a PM-600 in the USA and mine charges within 3-4 hours and NEVER does it charge slower than drain! I've owned mine since October and have at least 50 downloaded apps, watch vids and use A LOT of Email (3 accounts) and social networking (5 accounts and apps syncing)! The reviewer Was probably using a defective unit or has a bad app!

I had the same concerns about charging when I first got this tablet. Over several nights and days I could not get the tablet to charge fully.
I googled a bit and someone online suggested unplugging the usb cable from the wall transformer and reconnecting firmly. While a simple fix, this worked completely. Seems to be a common problem across Samsung devices.

With the stock charger it takes mine at least 6 hours to charge. I havent tried with my other 2.1 amp chargers...

Should not take that long to charge. Charging time should be around 4 to 5 hours from 0%

I found the problem. Fixed it with the original cord only, no extension cables.
(and, I mistakenly had bought the 2012 version, but I just returned it)

[Q] Battery Taking Too Long to Charge

I've had my N2 for a few weeks now. Suddenly, it has taken much, much longer to charge the phone. I calibrated the battery, drained it to 0 and plugged it in. 3 hours later it's still at 50% (and the phone is charging while off. Any suggestions?
Are you using the stock wall charger and cable that came in the box?
The reason the battery is taking so long to charge is because you ran it down to 0. If you want your batter to last longer it's best to use the 80 / 20. What I'm saying is use the phone down to 20% and recharge back to 100%.

May be a faulty battery. Contact Samsung (I'm assuming that by n2 you mean note 2) and they'll probably send you a new battery.

I only had one issue, yesterday, and it was that my phone showed 25 percent charge on stock white Samsung charger/cable and I knew it had been on the charger longer than that. I rebooted and it showed 74%. Not sure what the hell this was about.
Old rules by what standard? Anytime using lithium type of battry is best not to run it down to 0%. I guess you don't have much experence with them besides your phone. I use them everday for my hobby. Sure you can run them down to 0% if you like replacing them quicker.

Old rules were for NiCad tyoe batteries, where you did want to run them down to 100% and had to deal with other issues. If you do end up doing that Google search you will find the advice given is pretty accurate. Staying out of the high and low ends for long periods will give you many more cycles.

You would know if you were running a different kernel. You would have had to install it yourself. If you are All stock (ROM, AC adapter, cable) then you have something defective.
Here is my screenon time with everything running all the time on cleanROM with 6400 mah battery.
-- Note II, TapaTalk II--
Batteries will last thousands of cycles charging to 100% from 50, but maybe 300 cycles charging from 0 to 100. Don't run your battery down so much. Charge it when you're not using it.
Note2 battery drain problem
I too facing battery drain problem in my samsung galaxy note2 from last 1 week after installing lattest software update.
Previously my note2 was charged quickly in within 2 hours. After software upgrade, which came as push message, my battery takes almost 5-6 hours to charge from wall plugin source.
Can any body help me in restoring previous version of software??

[Q] battery drain while charging

I've been using a Galaxy Note II since early February, and battery power has been absolutely amazing. However, the past several days, I've been experiencing extreme battery drainage. I didn't notice until this morning how severe it really was. I woke up for school at 7:15a.m. and it was 100% charged, but by the time I got in class at 8:15, it was already at 50%. Yes, I was using my phone on the way to school, but I only used Twitter for maybe twenty minutes, then turned off the screen. I don't have any heavy apps downloaded, and from what I can see, there are no rouge apps either. While I was charging when I got home (the battery was at 23% after desperately trying to save it all day) I noticed that the battery was actually draining instead of charging.
I've rebooted and tried using my sister's charger with no results. I set my screen brightness as low as possible, turned on power saving mode, and made sure that it says I'm charging under AC instead of USB. While charging my phone, my battery level at the beginning of this post was 68% and is now 63%.
What can possibly be wrong with my phone so out of the blue? Is it just a problem with the battery, or is there something I can do or at least try? Thank you for the feedback!
edit:
my phone is not rooted
Try to see the battery usage in the settings maybe some app is causing that, also make sure your phone is going into deep sleep. Thats all I can say, I have to admit is draining very fast

[Q] Charging

Hi,
I would like to ask if this is normal or slow charging. When I charge my phone, every 3 minutes my phone goes up by 1%, is that normal? I just had a problem with my S3 charging and I don't know if I fixed it or not.
Thanks in advance
My s3 charges at roughly around that speed too, so that seems normal for me to have a phone charge 1% every 3mins.
That would mean 5 hours to charge. Little slow if you ask me. Have you timed it for 10-100%?

That sounds about right to me. Close enough to say it sounds like it's working fine. Li-Ion batteries can charge and discharge at a variable rate, depending on the current level of charge. For example, mine can go from 1-25 in 20 mins it seems, but then may take another 70-90 mins to get to 75%, and then speed up a little more, till 90+%, where it'll slow down again. (Been a long time since I watched it, so my values may not be exact, even for min, but it should get the point across.)
If you want to know more on that side of things, you should check out www.batteryuniversity.com
Lots of great info there!

Lol! I.guess I have to take some of that back. Just charged from 1%-76% in about 40 mins! It is an old battery though. But it still gets me all day on a full charge!
I swear though there are times where it'll take a couple hours at least for a full charge. I'll try to remember to track it next time.

Wow. I noticed that on my sister's S3 it was on 9% but after 30 minutes its on 80%!
nice
Thought I should mention I was using a 1a charger, rather than the stock 750ma.
Not something that's usually recommended, but it has worked well for me.
And for those who don't know, if charging from a computer, car charger, or often a non stock cable, charging will be take longer.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
Charge times are VERY dependent on the power adapter you're using, in my experience. If you're not using the adapter that came with your phone, check to see the output amps on the adapter.

[Q] Battery takes more than 6 hours to charge???

I have bought a brand new p-601, since the first installation it takes more than 6 hours in battery charging.
Is it normal or there is something wrong with the battery/tablet.
Is it possible reset the binary counter to 0, cause I have rooted it twice?

Yes its normal, all Exynos Note 10.1 2014 take a long time to charge, My P600 takes 5 hours however others have said it takes them 6-8hours to fully charge.
Same here
Think it's because of USB 2.0
Note 3 with USB 3.0 in roughly 2 hours
Someone could calculate the theoretical time by comparing how much power USB 2.0 can put through vs USB 3.0. Should be roughly 2 times more.
So maybe there will come a Note 10.1 Pro with USB 3.0 and NFC

It's not USB 3.0. Only the Tab/Pro 12.2's have USB 3.0 anyway. Here's how Samsung implements USB 3.0; at least on the N3.
The Galaxy Note 3 ships with USB 3.0, unfortunately at least in its current state it doesn't seem to get any benefit from the interface. Although the internal eMMC is capable of being read from at ~100MB/s, sustained transfers from the device over adb averaged around 30MB/s regardless of whether or not I connected the Note 3 to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 host.
Update: USB 3.0 does work on the Note 3, but only when connected to a Windows PC with USB 3.0. Doing so brings up a new option in the "USB Computer Connection" picker with USB 3.0 as an option. Ticking this alerts you that using USB 3.0 might interfere with calls and data, but then switches over. Connection transfer speed is indeed faster in this mode as well, like you'd expect. It only appears on Windows as well, my earlier attempts were on OS X where this popup option never appears.
Charging is an interesting story on the Note 3, but primarily because of what doesn’t change. The Note 3 continues to use Samsung’s tablet charging specification and charger, which has 2 amps of maximum output. The Note 3 draws 2 amps over a considerable amount of the charging curve, like other Samsung devices (in the linear part of the charge curve). USB 3.0 doesn’t change things up here quite yet with the new supported charge voltages that are coming eventually with the power delivery specification.

The p600 has a battery capacity that is 2.56 times bigger than the note 3 (3,200 vs. 8,220mAh) so its not a fair comparison.
.
My P605 My P600 takes 4 hours.. don't know about the exynos version.
It is obviously slower than any tablet or phone. Very boring and annoying. The question is how to differentiate between motherboard failure and normal slow battery charging?
Try a different cable
I was having this problem a few days back but found a hint on one of the threads I found on the internet. I was using a USB extension cable with the Samsung charger. It was taking 1 hr just to charge 1%. Then I tried not using the extension cable. It's now charging 10-15% every hour. It's likely the calbe you're using is the problem. If it's not the original cable that came with the tablet, try that cable.
I just got mine for xxxmas, and it takes about 6 hours, give or take, to go from ≈5-10% to full charge, maybe less when I don't use it; and I guess I get about the same life most have mentioned (is there a way to track charge/discharge times?).
That said, I just plugged in at 15%, and I just crossed 25% in about 20-25 minutes. I use the stock charger and cable plugged into an extension cord as thick as my arm... okay, my forefinger--hey, I like having a good extension cord that can carry the juice, the precious juice!

P605 here, and yes, it's normal, . It takes even longer if you're using it while charging. My philosophy is: "I sleep, he charges". Not perfect though, due to the amount of time I sleep, not much.
So my P600 Note 10.1 normally takes 5 hours to charge from 5% to 100% and the last 20% usually trickles and takes 2 hours. I remember someone on xda mentioning to unplug and then plug back when it hits 80%, so that's what I did yesterday and it took a total of 4hrs10mins from 5% to 100%. No idea how it made it charge faster but hey it worked.
P.s I use stock cable and plug.

Mine Note SM-P605 takes 5 Hours to charge and doesnt matter if have it turning off charging. Shouldnt it suppose to be around 3 hours charging time with qualcomms quickcharge 2.0?
0-100% 5-6H
10-100% 5H
How do peoples manage to get around 3H charing time with LTE version?
Im using battery monitor widget to monitor the charging, from start its around 1600mah and from 80-90% it start to drop to 1500mah-1000mah. From 90-100% it tickles down with 100mah for each 1% charge.
Is this normal? Im using Samsungs charger that comes with the box with EU adapter plug, since its HK version I got and if it does matter.
@dt33 i guess the EU adapter plug is the cause of slow charging. P605 should not be taking 5hours.

Id doubt that EU adapter is causing it and also tried with 3 different adapter. Since they just make HK 3 stick plug to EU 2 plug and doesnt convert electricity.
If any have SM-P605 version and can confirm with battery monitor widget. With history stats, how much mA does it charge bewteen 0-100% and is it same as mine does?
With sceen of:
0-80% - 1600-1700mA
80-90% - 1500-1000mA
90-100% - 900-100mA for each 1% it reduce with 100mA.
Does Qualcomm tickels down charging from 80-100% as Exynos version does?
It isn't the charger or the cable, it's something to do with the battery. I've had two different units in the past week or so that have taken over 7 hours and sometimes the charging stops before it is full and the discharge varies so much from 3 hours to 10 hours with the same things open and this happens on different chargers. Samsung agreed that both units were faulty, so enough is enough, I'm going to try something else.
After reading here and elsewhere about the GN 2014 charging time, I checked mine this morning. I wanted to do that before my 15 day return is up at Bestbuy. Yesterday, I ran the GN 2014 until it came with a screen and said to connect to charger. I think it was about 3% left.. This morning I put it on the charger at 7am.. at about 11, it was almost full, I unplugged it, and then plugged it back up again, and at 12 noon it reported 100%..
I have read that at about 80% on charging, it is real slow, and to un plug and re plug at that time helps..Anyway, 5 hours to 100% is normal, so I am okay.

Thanks for u offering, but it doesnt matter now and Im tired of Samsung. Too many buggs and none fixes and theirs customers support is none existens.
Now I also got black screen, waking it up from sleep, touch stopped responding or superlag (whatever its), cant swipe between home screens bla bla and couldnt either click on oki to reboot the device. A long press on power button for reboot is only choice.
Also suddenly battery drain from 100% - 97% just in 3 min for scrolling around home screen, appdrawer, open apps.
This tab just have too many issues and not worth mine time or buy.
Today at work, mine friend told me that his Note 8 LTE that he bought for 2 months ago, have also screen shaking problem as its with Note 2014.WTF is this?
Waiting for 4.4 and see if it resolves any of the problems. Or else, I just sell this **** and forget about Samsung.

[Q] N900T Extremely Slow to Charge- Tips?

Hello,
I bought a gently used N900T a few days ago. The device is awesome and works perfectly, except for one thing. Charging the phone with the Samsung charging cable+ac adapter takes longer than forever. It charges at a rate of approximately 8-9% per hour.
A few notes:
Device on, device off, it doesn't matter. It charges at the same slow rate.
The battery itself, once it charges, holds that charge very well.
The slow charging happened both when I was on the stock rom and on my current Slim Rom.
I have ordered a new charger and a new battery. If the slow charging persists with these new accessories, am I doomed? Is the slow charging a known issue for the Note 3? Besides the new equipment, does anyone have any advice on how to solve this?
Thanks so much!

You gonna have to do testing or replace phone. Me I would change kernel just cause it takes 2 seconds. Let it ride a day if no change then a factory refresh. You have checked that no app is killing phone as fast as it charges right?
TWEAKED N3
Edit. I was just on his thread and a few guys having issues with either bad batter. UV/ oc .try a different ROM and kernel. Fresh install meaning Odin back to stock and start all over. Sorry good luck
As weird as this sounds, I tried the charger in a different outlet in my home and it works a lot better. The battery charges quite fast from any level to about 96%, then starts crawling again to 97, 98 and stops at 98. I opened battery calibration, which shows the battery at 96% and 4337mv, which is the same mv level as 100% normally if memory serves me correctly. So I'm thinking the battery is "full", but for some reason won't go to 100% without a fight. Perhaps if I clear my cache+dalvik cache? Any other suggestions?

What was wrong with mine it was the charger. The usb wasn't connected all the way in the AC therefore was only charging like it would through computer as soon as I fixed it with a blow of air and a gentle push it right away started charging AC phone charged in 2 hours
I could be wrong but I noticed my charging is slower when I stick my charger into a surge protector power bar as opposed to a standard wall outlet.
Mine was the charging cable I used a regular USB charger cable and it charge fast
