Nexus 7 Dead pixel/ dust under screen - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Just got a nexus 7 as one of my Christmas presents. There is a small black particle under the glass. Is this a common problem? I plan on taking it to Best Buy tomorrow. Anyone with first hand experience wanna tell me how their exchange went? Thanks.

My first Nexus 7 2013 came with 5-6 dead pixels and touch screen issues, took it to Asus (At Texas) and they gave me a completely new Nexus 7, and before sealing it, they checked and tested it in front of me

Wow sounds great. Hopefully Best Buy will show the same customer service. Thanks for your input. ?

Mine did too. Brought it back to best buy and had to open 3 in store before I found a perfect one. The manager was not happy with me, but I couldn't care less. Not about to walk out of the store with a defective product. In the end I got one with zero issues, including the touchscreen problems that people often complain about. Take it back, and do not settle for anything less than perfect.

Best buy is crap!! I'm done with them! I'm marked for returns even though I might buy one thing a year and return every other year. Horrible service and Geek squad is a joke!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

I wonder what the issue rate is wifi vs mobile. They should have the same issues, because they come off the same assembly line with the exception of a few parts. But it's seems most the of the complaints come from the wifi users.

I agree Geek squad is usually a joke. I just got back from Best Buy and they replaced it with no trouble. Opened the box and the new one has a flawless screen from what I can tell so far. I'm pleased.

Worth buying a damaged Gnex off Craigslist

Seller said they dropped it in water. It holds a charge but will turn off shortly after being powered on. They're asking $100. Worth it or should I pass? Sounds like a hardware problem so I don't think its fixable without dishing out a lot of money.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think you answered your own question. I'd say its definitely not worth it considering a lot of factors like how long it was in the water, what they did after they pulled it out, etc etc...
Replacing the logic board is cheaper than replacing the screen, so as long as the screen isn't cracked it shouldn't be that bad. However, you're not going to be able to easily find a replacement logic board yet. If it is well and truly broken, your best bet is to keep the screen and housing, then buy another Nexus that has a broken screen and frankenstein it together.
I'm looking for the back housing to a Verizon one, if anyone knows where I can get parts for them?

Not a good idea in my opinion!
Its like buying a used car with some issues and spending a lot of money to fix it's known bad issues then after sometime new bad issues will come up and you'll keep fixing it and so on that if u bought a new one wit would have been cheaper! Electronics are even worst!

Cars are different, though. Any issue with an engine that completely prevents it from running is not going to be traceable to any one particular part, especially if all of the parts are really old.
These phones literally have four major components that are easily replaceable, and only two of these components are going to keep the phone from being operational. If you replace both the logic board and the screen, it's practically a new phone.

Issues with T-Mobile galaxy s3 quality control.

So... I bought my galaxy s3 from tmobile customer service. With a full upgrade I've only paid $ 179 of 16gb.
I've wanted the white one but they were sold out in 16. So I've went ahead and placed a exchange of the 32gb.
The first (white 32gb) had many dust stuck under the sceen... and interfere with the camera as well... so I've called to get me a same but different one that isn't defective this time. (New in box course) now the new one has huge gap on the metal bezel area... I could fit like 5 business card.
So I called again and placed another one...
This time I've told them to put a notation on my account so that the manufacture date is most recent... (both of my defective white phones were made in 7/4/12)
Where as my blue one is perfect...besides the dark pixels.
I really think Samsung's quality control isn't as what they claim to advertise as... I understand that no phones are perfect... but at least do a better job at hiding... lol
So in my opinion I could be getting a bad batch or just unlucky... I will keep you guys updated with my next replacement in white.
Please tell us your experience with similar problems.

No he's not, he's paying for a new product so it shouldn't have any defects or problems. What's the point of a 720p screen if it has dust underneath. My 2 yr old g2 doesn't have any dust whatsoever so why should this.

No ****. How close do you have to have the phone to your face to notice "Dark pixels?"
I wasn't aware that these screen panels could have dust considering the digitizer and screen are fused together. Hmm... :sly:

Mine already has cracks in the bezel, only issue so far. Much better than the Galaxy Nexus screen issues or the first batch of One X ones.

My first one had really weird screen issues (looked like there were fingerprints underneath the screen) but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary on my second. 32 GB white.

So lets see here. Samsung has probably manufactured what 10 million Galaxy S3's? I would expect some to have issues. Mine has none of these flaws.

That looks like a good deal, but I always wonder about the warranty (90 days vs. 1 year). I've had to send in 2 of my last 3 smartphones on warranty claims so I worry about this being a good deal.
Typically the good thing about refurbs are whatever the problem was it is now fixed. Puts my mind at ease when I think of it like that lol.

Cracked case

Did some one else also got their phone cracked?
I babied it since I bought, not even a minute scratch, every thing pristine. Called customer service, they claim any physical damage is not covered under warranty.:crying: Even sent them links and posting full of same problem.
NEVER going to buy any Samsung products.
mind posting a link to this cracked case?
The top left corner of the back has a nice crack, developed in a week because of their plastic. I just went on eBay and got another one for cheap. Never dropped it either but oh well, at least the screen is in tact

Mine too. I told Samsung about it just to let them know about poor build quality, they kept trying to get me to send it back to them so they could rape me on fixing it no matter how many times I told them that I didn't care about the crack I was just letting them know that I was disappointed in the quality. I think I am done buying samsungs, I will go with Google branded devices from now on.

I was a die hard Samsung person until my s3 I have a Samsung fridge, 2 Samsung TVs, 2 captivates, a blue ray player, a focus 2, a Bluetooth earpiece, and I recommended Samsung to everyone. I am quite disapointed in the way they handled my advice, I wasn't asking for service or a replacement, I was just letting them know I was not happy with the quality of my device. So I think I am done with Samsung for a while, I love my nexus 7 so I will be going Google for the time being.

NEVER!!!
I had their plasma, paid ridiculous high price 11 years ago, still going very strong. Windows OS Focus phone, great quality. But now after knowing their problem, how they treat me. I will even persuade others from buying their products.:crying:
Lol I thought the whole time the cracks were part of the bezel hahaha I have 4 of them one in each corner. What a coincidence lol but yeah they don't bother me. I always have my phone in a case, but yeah I totally thought it was part of the design and I noticed the bezel is all uneven around the screen... Some gaps bigger than others... Samsung always has issues on their bezels.... The Note was the worst. Not OCD about it. But I did notice it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I used to baby my phone, but I couldn't find a good screen protector that worked with my case.
I love using the matte-finished screen protectors that are reusable (I'm using the Mochi brand). I'm still very careful about my phone, though.
Noticed a fresh crack appeared in bottom, on top of USB. Looks like whole bezel will fall apart.
That sucks. So far, no scratches after about 8 months use. Good to be on the lookout for them though!

May be coming back to the Note

Had the 2 and 3, loved it. I DE idea on the nexus 6 to try a stock experience, and the duel speakers. Frankly I really like the phone a lot, speakers are great, root and turn off force encryption and it made it run better. I love it. However, my brother got the 4 and I envy the camera and the screen. Tw on lollipop looks way less cheesy, and even with a large case, it fits better in my hand than my nexus with a very thin Spigen case. I found one online and talked the guy down to 350, in mint condition (supposedly in an otterbox it's whole life).. Thoughts?
