[Q] The Newest Root Method for 4.3?!?!?! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas first of all!!
Second of all, i unrooted my phone a while back waiting on the 4.3 update. Of course, the update came in and im bored with my phone but i have been out of the loop for a while now. I am wondering has anything changed and what is the best way to root my phone on 4.3? Can i still use qbkings method from a while ago or is there a more efficient way? Thanks in advance for your answers!!
Happy Rooting!!!!

I used chainfire's method from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963812
After you root you will have to reinstall or update SuperSU from the play store. Once you run it a second time you should have root. Read the last 3 or 4 pages of the thread for more info.
Be aware that the knox bootloader flag will be set to 1 which tells Sprint/Samsung your phone has been modified. There is currently no way to restore this flag.

Hi All,
Just some quick shortcuts to the threads I followed for rooting my GT-N7105 aswell as adding clockworkmod recovery.
For rooting from a stock ROM follow this thread (make sure to select the file for the GT-N7105): LINK

Hi All,
Finally got my screen protector on and fired it up. Straight away there is an update ready to download, if I apply this should I be OK for rooting later etc...??
The only reason I ask is that previous devices (HTC ones) have been locked down to prevent root in OTA updates before.
My experience of Samsung devices is limited so I dont want to prevent myself obtaining root at such an early stage.
Cheers all.
EDIT: The current build number on the device is: JRO03C.N7105XXALIJ
It should be OK as long as you havent installed any mods/changed build.prop.
But you will lose root... You will have to root again...

Its ok, I havent got root yet. I have LITERALLY just turned it on.
I will apply the update now then get root after. I NEED to do some reading up on rooting etc..... before I take the plunge.
K guys, i have a question.
So i upgraded my note 2 to the latest firmware now and rooted my phone.
If there is any update coming, can i update my note 2 while it is rooted or i have to unroot then update?
Either by downloading the rom from sammobile or OTA update ?

Counter?
I read somewhere about Samsung devices having a counter or something (so Samsung can know if you root i believe). Do these root methods up the counter or is what is the deal with that? sorry for being so uniformed, I have only had HTC and Motorola phones.

Yes they have a counter. You can get triangle away which will reset the counter. In original andriod development section, go to cf auto root and it should explain everything for you.
Thanks qbking77, love all your videos!
Thanks for the helpful guide :fingers-crossed:
So if we choose option 3, the All in one method, instead of option 2 that would allow for OTAs. What steps would one take to revert back to stock recovery to be able to except OTA updates? Just mainly concerned about the multitasking fix when that becomes available. I know devs will likely get it working and made flashable for those with the custom recoveries but Im just curious for my own knowledge.
Also, if one was to choose to take option 2 for a while, would you run this process over again and choose option 3 to re-root and install the custom recovery?
Extremely new to sammy devices so just want to have all my ducks in a row before I do the root. Not really sure if im going to flash any roms or not until a cm10 drops, but I may get bored in a day or two and decide to. So I wanna know which steps to take after initially choosing option 2 or option 3 during intiial root.
Thanks for the responsiveness how-to's!

You can use triangle away to reset counter after root but after you flash rom count will increase to value 1 .
From that point Triangle Away wont reset count which is bad news for those that use AllShare Cast Wireless Hub.
Hub does not work with flash count value 1.
From there only way to reset count is to flash stock tar
daemon still not running error
Any one else getting this?
OTA update, need to unroot first?
Hello,
So I did select option 2 for rooting, with no custom recovery and I wanted to know, when I do get this new OTA update for multiview, will I need to unroot first or should it install with no problems? I am assuming I'll probably lose root after I update with the OTA. Thanks again!

Should be able to install with no issues at all if you have stock recovery

QBKING77,
Thanks for all of your videos. I routinely check out your Youtube sight before I do anything to my phones.
I am running the stock ROM and am not rooted. Will I be able to root my device if I accept the OTA or should I root first and then flash a pre-rooted stock Rom with the OTA? I have nothing against rooting, I just don't have the time right now, but I don't want to have to wait weeks until someone figures out how to root the new OTA ROM if it can't be rooted right off of the bat.
Thanks again.
Hey qbKing77, I have been checking out your videos on Youtube and those along with this thread have been very helpful. I am looking to root my Sph-L900 but I am new to rooting. One question is I love all the S-Pen functions and options. What options will keep this while rooting? Should I just root and keep a "Stock ROM" or can I bring in something like JellyBomb or Blazer (preferably JB cause I love the Customization he has done with it.). As of right now I'm not looking to lose those functions, also if i flashed that JB ROM after an OTA update will the Multiwindow be available or wait for an update to the ROM itself?
Again new to it, and I understand the guidelines of the Forum I am no noob to forums or tech just to rooting itself.
Thanks

So if I use QBKing77's "Unroot" method, that will reset everything(aka unroot), this will also reset the counter to 0? And if I wanna go back, just reroot again?
I am coming from HTC phones(my last 3 were a Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and EVO 3D) so just as BDawgTrap, I am unfamiliar with the counter that Samsung uses.
Thank you for all your helpful videos,I'm now a subscriber.I do have a question though,I'm rooted with option 3 and wanted to DL the newest sprint OTA system update. What needs to be done to do so?
I just got the note 2 today and my phone already have LJC install...how do i root form there?

You should be fine doing it the same way as if you had the prior firmware.
I had already manually added the LJC build to my unrooted note 2 and just did the rooting process and it went smoothly.
I am now rooted.

Update or dont update

I just got my 2nd Note 2 after exchanging before 14 days was up for a better price. I rooted my 1st and had no issues Was using Jelly Bomb. My question is does it matter whether or not you update before you root. I've seen a few forums people were having issues when flashing certain ROMS after the update. Just wanted to know if its better to stay on the original update and root or update and root after. Advantages or disadvantages? I used a all in 1 toolkit before.
Thanks

if you are just rooting without changing roms you should wait for the update then root but if you are going to change roms then it does not matter as the android version will be depending on the rom you will be using.
on the other hand if you can't wait to root then root away then unroot when an update is released and then root again, technically this should work but lets wait for the guru's say .

Thanks for the advice. I did notice how easy it was to root and unroot when I had to take my phone back. I just wasnt sure if people had been having issues on LK8 or whatever I keep seeing all over the forum or what the difference. I think I'll wait to update and will just root as is since I didnt have much trouble on the older firmware before

I would stay on ljc and wait for an official update of lk8. I updated and it worked fine until I wanted to go back to an ljc rom. Thanks to garwynn and his brilliance I can now go back to ljc roms without the chameleon error.

[Q] Root for sm-t217s running the new 4.4.2 kitkat update?

Hello my names Aaron, I rooted my galaxy tab 3 (sm-t217s) a little bit ago then unrooted just because my wifi wasnt turning on.. I had to do a stock restore through odin to get it all working again. When I did that I got the new kitkat update and gladly updated it. Now again though I want to root it so I can again do all the great things you can do with rooting!
So my questions are:
Can I root it running 4.4.2 the same way I did when I was running 4.2.2? Will it brick it if I just put on a custom recovery the same way as before and let that install superSU?
I would just like to know and if not then is there another way currently to root it?
I couldnt find anything about it that is why I am posting about it.. must not be a very common tablet?
Anyways thanks for your time and help!

Either use towelroot to root from within android or you can still flash twrp from Odin and root that way. Twrp may set warranty bit, mine was was already tripped so I can't say dor sure if it does.

I used towel root on4.4.2 update worked great, and yes twrp does set set warrenty bit

I used towelroot on my tablet, it does what it has to do. Does not reboot, but when I use Root Checker it says that I do not have root.....any suggestions?
I was rooted with towel root fine under the June 2014 update to 4.4.2, but I mistakenly took the update to NH4 while rooted. My device seems to be fine, but I lost root and Towel root will not seem to root me again, no way, no how. My warranty bit is clean, and I don't want to trip it, but I'd love to have root back. Is there anyything I can do on NH4 from within Android to get root back? TIA
How did you do an unroot through Odin and which version of Towelroot did you use to root it again? I have the same tablet.
I have SM-T217S running Kitkay 4.4.2. I've tried almost every root app there is (Kingo, Towel, ect.). They all say my device isn't compatible. And when I go to update under settings, it says that my device is running unauthorized software and that I need to use Samsung kies to flash. But it has no root & no custom software, everything is normal. I have tried using computer to root but still nothing. What could I do to fix it?

Root help - Is it even possible?

Hi folks.
Been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.
I've been looking into rooting my SM-G870W (Galaxy S5 Active, Canadian, Telus) for a while now. It's currently updated to Android 6.0.1.
I've read a lot of different information and I've held off on actually trying it because of several posters saying they've bricked their phone or had no luck.
To the best of my knowledge and research, there is no "plug and play" app or program that will root automatically. Is this accurate?
I have read of manual recommendations or guides that say they work.
This site, being the foremost authority as far as I'm concerned, is my last step in research.
Can anyone please advise if this is possible for this phone and version?
If so, is there an existing guide that is reputable that I could follow?
I thank you in advance.
A little late to post. But I am having no luck rooting my SM-870W on Telus. I used Odin and the CF-Auto-Root-kltecanactive-kltevlactive-smg870w for Marshmallow 6.0.1
I just end up with "Recovery is SeAndroid enforcing"
I then have to flash back the stock rom
Tomorrow when I have time, I am going to downgrade back to Lollipop to root it. If successful, then I will use Flashfire to update to Marshmallow 6.0.1 and see how that goes.
Well so far I successfully downgraded my phone back to Lollipop and rerooted it. . Tomorrow or next week will try updating with flashfire
I tried again to root marshmallow using flashfire, and it boot looped. So just going to stay on Lollipop and keep rooted. Will probably upgrade phone soon anyway. I don't know how others on youtube etc say they have done it, but it's not working for me.
Thanks for posting
I too have the same model phone and I'm running into the exact same issue you are. Thanks for posting which lets me know I'm not the only one facing this problem
