The problem im having with this rom is that after signing in to my gmail account and it says setup complete nothing is restored. I made sure the correct box is cheked but nothing seems to restore. I had the same problem with version 8. with other roms after i restore my phone automatically connected to saved wifi access points and started downloading my apps. Is there a way to fix this? I have used the search but cant seem to find anything on it. If anyone could help i would appreciate it. Btw I am on cwm touch recovery.
The android restore function has always been hit or miss for me, you might be better off using titanium backup or something

Jovy's rom always require you to wait 10 minutes at first boot before you enter you start the setup process. I also notice on some roms and half of the time my apps dont automatically restore but my contacts always restore. What you can do is just go into the play store and touch your menu key and select "My Apps" then it will show you list of all your previous apps that you downloaded, google also has an annoying habit of including advertised apps in your my apps section or forcing restore of an advertised app that you never downloaded before when your device is restoring all your previous apps but that is Google and they always play dirty tricks.
I wouldn't recommend Jovy's roms anyways, I've experienced waay too many issues with his roms and I would recommend you go for the Frosty rom if you like Touchwiz, I am not a fan of touchwiz at all and I like Aosp roms.

Where is your rom? You can recommend your favorite without being a ****. There is nothing wrong with jovy's ROM. It's no wonder devs get frustrated with punks.

Are you retarded or something? how was I being a **** for speaking the truth? I personally used his roms for both galaxy s2 and galaxy s3 and he has same issues with his Xperia rom, I can't say the same for Darthstalker, he may not have those issues in there but keep in mind I'm telling the truth, so for speaking the truth I am a **** huh? I don't think dev's care if they are critisized, if you tell the truth about something I make hell I will thank you and say I will improve on it not call you a **** for telling me the truth. We all know they do free development work for us and it's not like I am saying "He should not be making any roms" I welcome him to keep developing and others may not have the same opinion or experience issues like I did with his but there were pretty serious issues with his rom that both myself and friends experienced and you can even see his comment replies about people talking about those issues so heck do you want me from now on to just not talk the truth about another persons rom and not say "don't use so and so's rom" and just rather plain and simply recommend the best rom I have experienced with? The whole reason I even talked about Jovvy's bug's and didn't recommend his rom is because we are on the topic of someone who is using one of his roms.
His single most major flaw in the Xperia rom is also experienced by many people and that is the fact that after you get done with a call, you get the black screen of death so he has some sort of proximity sensor issue so people have to take out the battery and reinsert. That and some other few flaws. So don't tell me there is nothing wrong with his roms.
I challenge you to go and use Xperia rom and tell me you don't have any issues.
With that said I recommend you guys use Mike's Illusion rom for the galaxy s3, mike is a very tough developer and his rom gets me 3 days of battery life and amazingly smooth.

Want to stick my nose in here while I still can since we're on the interwebs and love to discuss and such.
The TouchWiz rom by Jovy gave a whole bunch that other roms didn't have, the not able to use apps while battery was low (camera) no other person gave us that feature which is huge in my opinion. He got it to use cause he can write code and edit smali as I understand. He is really good editing files and code.
Attacking his Experia rom is not what should be brought up here, that is a CM10 issue, I've had it on a few CM based roms, not just his. Secondly, you should take it down a notch, Osman, you are coming off as a ****, I would know I'm really good at it lol.
Lastly, Ramsays last rom was not the best to suggest, it has lag, battery issues, and flickering like a bad light bulb. His new rom that will be out soon with a new base is a solid, his rom before 1.18 is a solid rom, but not his latest.

To the OP. As others have mentioned, it can be hit and miss with google restore. I have had mixed results with various phones and Roms. I rely in Titanium Backup Pro. Sorry to hijack your thread.

well i do use titanium backup but it doesnt restore my wifi settings. Most places I go to it will be hard to get the passwords again. Thanks for the reply though.

I really like the darthstalker Roms its just that the wifi settings never restore. I can get my contacts to restore after i go to the playstore and it asks to sign in again. I followed all the instructions and waited the 10+ minutes.. Thanks for the suggestion though.
To anyone that knows of a ROM that is 100% functional INCLUDING S PEN!
The ROM I have now doesn't have a working radio so I can't even use my data plan to download anything (sometimes doesn't even wake back up when it goes to sleep). The home internet is constantly blinking in and out, making downloading large files tedious; so if you are positive you know a ROM that has everything functioning (as if it just shipped from the factory!) and de-bloated then please please, do tell!
I'd like this to be a one-shot download kind of thing rather than having to download a mess of things, once I get something that works again then I don't care how many ROMs you suggest.
PS: Are the Note II ROMs naturally huge??? I have seen some as high as 1GB

Have you tried reading through the development section for comments as to what works and what doesn't for each ROM? There are loads that work. And yes, many are quite large.
Android Revolution by Mike1986 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925402) works flawlessly and is as you described. Near stock but completely debloated and optimized for better battery life and faster. Version 10.0 was just released yesterday with some updates.
If i ever need to use a Samsung ROM, i always use Android Revolution as i know it simply works.
Samsung ROMs are normally around 800 MB to 1 GB, completely normal.

The lot I have found actually didn't have a log at all, so I assumed everything worked, like SpaceX2 I searched the entire thread for reported issues and didn't find anything so I went ahead to get it then run into this mess I'll try to look harder next time (if my internet plays nice)

I'll give it a go then! and I just wanted to be sure they were supposed to be that large, the SII I had had ROMs around 300-500 avg so when I saw SpaceX2's 900-something and another at 1.4GB my eyes nearly popped out of my skull and jaw slapped a hole in the floor LOL
but just to be clear, the S-Pen functions are normal then? Reason I got this phone was to do my illustrations on the go (Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop stuff) and if I can't us it then it was a waste lol

Why not stick to stock? Custom roms are nice if you are looking for certain features, but they often come at the expense of being less compatible with certain apps and for the note specifically, you lose apps like s-note.

A number of reasons, really.
~While stock is wicked fast and no doubt stable, too many apps run in the background. I did a memorydump once and at any given time (after its sat idle for about 2min) there are usually 40-50 or more apps running in the background.
~Want to be able to continue using Google Wallet (started using it on my Nexus 7 and instantly fell in love). This Isis crap that the carriers are forcing us to use seems like the works of a halfwitt jacked up on drugs and their rollout methods are awful.
~Apparently the stock ROM with all the bloat/branding sucks up the onboard memory like it's going out of style. I don't even use most (if any) the carrier junk but I can't delete them. Thats where de-bloated and slimmed-down-to-essentials ROMs come in for me
~Ability to fully customize how I want MY phone to look and react rather than be just another carbon copy with the rest of the crowd. You wouldn't believe how many people, that have gotten a good look at my old SII w/ SBean AOKP, oooh & ahh over some visual features I could do that they couldn't, especially with battery readouts rather than guessing what percentage you're at with that vague battery bar.
That's just scratching the surface but come-ooooon! This is XDA, what are the majority of us here for anyway?

Is it normal that the installation keeps freezing around the bit about efs backups?

First off if I was a dev and saw this thread id be like "fu then enjoy your stock rom bish"
Its one thing if a rom is bricking your phone cuz the dev did no tests bit seriosly , your title really is unfair.
You shoukd read a luttle more about custom roms as this is the nature of "custom roms".
Why dont you make your own rom??

Hi.....all....i just got this amazing phone last 2 weeks, and this is really good phone. And i just root it too.
I wanna change the custom ROM with Omega ROM, and change the Kernel too.
My question in here is : I can flash the custom ROM ?? Or i must unroot first ? And sorry, i really newbie about that, flashing or wht.

Your signature reads "Galaxy Note II (T889)" and AFAIK Revolution HD and this whole section really is about the GT-N7100. Could you please clarify this point?

I hear you. I was into custom ROM's for many devices, but I found the problems with incompatibilities to be too much of a hassle to use on "daily driver" devices - especially my phone, which I use for business.
Now, I use Titanium to freeze bloatware and system apps that I don't want running. I use the Xposed framework mod to get unlimited multiwindow apps on my Note2 as well as add other features like per-app settings (dpi, full screen, resolution, etc.). I use a Nova Launcher instead of touchwiz, and several other tweaks on my stock firmware.
I found this to be the best option for ME, because the stability on my phone is perfect, battery life is great and I know that all apps will work properly.
Good luck on your quest to find the best rom - you'll likely have to try a bunch before settling down

They're not, the T-Mobile Note II has a dedicated forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1877
GSM Arena says : The device will have a model number SGH-T889 and will reportedly pack the same specs as the international Galaxy Note II (except for the LTE connectivity, of course). Feel free to check out our preview of the Note II for more details on the device.

I'm in the same boat as you. I would rather not mess with a custom ROM and the attendant incompatibilities on a daily driver device.

The version of Titanium that does not require root allows you to "freeze" bloatware? What exactly do you mean by that? In other words, what does "freeze" mean in this context specifically?

Root is required of you want to get the most out of your device. If you want to "freeze" apps on an unrooted device, go to your application manager in your device settings, click on the system app you want to "freeze" and select disable. If you don't see the disable button, then click Uninstall updates first. Use this with caution as freezing or disabling important apps may cause problems.
Xposed requires root, but it doesn't mess up your system like some hardwire mods which replace system files can do.

First post, although I've been a fan of XDA for several years and have never signed up for an account as I have typically googled to find all my answers. I signed up yesterday to ask a perplexing question to me today. I've installed custom ROM's on my last couple smart phones and loved them for all the reasons I know many people on this site do. Now I got a GalaxyNote 2, I rooted it and installed CM10 - thrilled I must say...kudos to Skip for the great GN2 toolkit!
Then I found out that the multi-view and S-Pen from my research don't work on AOSP ROM's. What then would be the benefit of a ROM on GN2? Or have I not done enough homework to find the missing links? I did find this thread for mult-view but I'm not comfortable proceeding with it. I understand Papyrus works for S-pen.
To me with a phablet this big. These 2 solutions would keep me from staying rooted and return to stock. Yet, I truly love the speed and simplicity of CM10. Without all the Vendor bloatware - but that just gives me an overgrown smartphone... what am I missing?

Thank you!! I feel the same way, I love this phone's functions and don't want to lose any but I have been using cyanogenmod since the g1 days. Guess I will be waiting until they get a fully functional version going

Can you update apps? There was a comment that one app couldn't be updated or it would cause issue??

I'm downloading that AOSP Touch Wiz ROM right now to give it a go. Could be a better solution to my stock rooted MA7 with Apex Launcher Jelly Bean theme.

First, yes, you didn't do enough research. No biggie.
You have to remember, CM is still in beta and has a few things that do not work yet. If memory serves me well, they're listed in the first post for CM.
The multiwindow aspect of the GN2/GS3 is built into the framework for touchwiz and android. So, it's not likely something we'll see very soon in CM. I think they may be waiting for Google to implement into Android.
I don't know about the Spen. That may be more specific to the phone more than touchwiz, and that may be just something the devs are waiting for Samsung to release details on, or some dev to more reverse engineer.
Lastly, you don't have to unroot to be stock. A lot of people, such as myself, are rooted, but run stock roms. I run deoxidized versions to I can use the mutliwindow and have the 4-1 reboot. I like having root for some important apps, for me, require it, such as Titanium Bakcup, WiFi tether, and Busybox. It's not that hard to get rid of bloat when you're rooted. Just make a nandroid incase you delete something you shouldn't have.

Thanks for your insight. I appreciate it. Also in my research, I read information where Android told Cyanogen to stop incorporating Multi-view and S-pen into their ROM's so we will have to see if that happens and the features ever come to light. CM's always in Beta... yes their Beta for GN2 is new - I get it and will have to see what happens. in the interim.. I'm looking for help from the members to find a working rom. Perhaps you can suggest the rom that you are using... sounds interesting and I'd much rather flash something that the dev's on here have cleaned up than try to do it myself... and yes, I do support with donations
Personally, I'm just running a deoxidized stock rom with Perseus kernel. The rom did have the bloat. I just deleted stuff I didn't want with Titanium backup, after making sure to back it up; it's a CYA move. I have goofed and deleted something that cause Google Play not to function. You kind of figure out what you can't and can delete without issue.
Right now, the stock rom does what I need and most of what I want. I haven't found anything I couldn't do because of stock. It would be nice to have hybrid functionality, but it's not a deal breaker. I personally haven't seen anything on AOSP that is a must have. Being rooted, must have.
I do like CM and thought it was a lot better than the stock rom when I was still using my Evo4G. I'm just waiting for CM to have everything working, other than the Spen and mutliwindow, before trying it out.
I would love to have something like Boot Manager so I can have mutliple ROMs loaded. When I had it on my Evo, I usually had three--stock, CM, and some experimental alpha or early beta. I haven't really seen anyone do a bare minimum stock rom. Those are nice, than you can just add the other feature you like instead of trying to get rid of what you don't.
SPen and multi window are samsungs intellectual property, ie they are proprietary code that an after market firmware can't incorporate with violating copyrights. Google won't let CM use the multiview feature, yet, as it is being incorporated into AOSP so they will have it in a future release. Googles already pushed the MV commits upstream its just not activated yet. There are other options if you're saavy enough to merge code and compile a rom for yourself such as cornerstone by onskreen, their code has gone fully opensource now so you can clone their git into yours and merge it with an AOSP rom of your choice then do the necessary modifications to the code and compile it.

So far I've only run into two apps that are unable to update or having problems after an update. If you update youtube, you won't be able to sign in, which sucks. The calendar app won't update, also. I've tried deleting it and installing it from the market, but that still doesn't work out. Other than those two, everything else is fine. Dev did a great job

I'm running the AOSPNoWiz 1.4 right now and you also can't use your Samsung account without getting FC for Scloud.sync. I disabled my Samsung account and it went away.

So for Christmas I got a nexus 7 32GB tab, now ive been browsing the site for a couple weeks now reading about rooting, roms and kernals.
I saw the thread in general about one click rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381698 )
and have decided that is most likely the way ill go, how its shown in the first video.
Now for roms ive been thinking that paranoid android may be the best for me, as from what ive read and understood it doesn't have all those google apps the nexus comes with unless you install the google package? can anyone comfirm this? just want to make sure I didn't read it like a tard.
Now lets say that rom is a good one and I should be good to go, what kernals or kernals should I get?
if the kernel I download I don't like is it easy to switch them out for another or do I have to reset and reroot the tablet and reinstall the roms and kernel? same goes for the rom as well, are they easy to swtich for another? can you have more then one rom on a tablet?
and last of all so say I install paranoid, and decide on a kernel and it all goes well, and is looking good, how do I download apps? do I need the google apps to do this?

A lot of good questions. Before you start flashing roms and/or kernels you should read as much of each specific thread as you can stand. You need to have an idea of what kind of problems if any users are experiencing, that way you can hopefully make an informed decision. I personally would never read just the first couple posts and start flashing. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some good roms and kernels out there and there is nothing wrong with experimenting. And yes, some roms do require gapps. And you do need at least some of the google apps (gapps) to be able to use the Play Store. They will tell you if they are not included in that specific thread.
As far as kernels go you need to be careful. Read, read, read! If you start playing with overclocking and voltages you can easily create problems for yourself. Do you know what to do if you get stuck in a boot loop? Or start getting random reboots? Not trying to talk you out of doing anything, hell I use custom kernels myself. it's just that it's not that hard to end up with a really nice paperweight! Sometimes going from one kernel to another you will need to dirty flash your rom or flash the system image to get a clean start with a new kernel. Good luck!
Firstly, use
Since the Nexus 7 is pure stock already, if you have no reason for a custom ROM, you probably don't need it. Just use Closed Framework with Gravitybox module, you can get some customization. Also consider candy shop with zip themed, you can customize your navigation buttons and stuff.
As for kernels, use either elementalx or franco kernels. Those are probably the two most popular.

But from what im gathering I think I just need to delete(is that possible or is it just disabling apps?) and maybe download some more aps for customization like clocks and weather widgets(not sure if that's exactly what a widget is), instead of all this rooting and unrooting stuff.
like when I click the circle with 6 dots in it to show me all the apps on my tablet, I honestly don't want half of them even on my tab
Bascially what I just want is a minimalistic screen where I don't have tuns of icons everywhere as I wont use 3/4th of it such as gmail, keep, people, play newsstand, hangouts, and apps that the stock tablet comes with.
edit: also any way without unrooting to install and snes emulator or play pc or ps1 games? digging some super Mario or diablo clone hack and slashj

You can disable most everything, I have a lot of the google apps disabled that I have no plans on using and all of the apps you mention can be disabled. There are things you can do when rooted to help battery life but there are also things you can do without being rooted. Like turning off wifi always scanning, or always on while sleeping. Adjusting sync. Disabling apps. If rooted you can use Greenify to hibernate apps without disabling them. The paid version of Greenify allows you to hibernate system apps but you have to have Xposed Framework installed to get the paid version to work and Xposed only works with dalvik and not art. Lots of options! Sorry, I haven't used any emulators. Do a search of the whole q/a thread, you'll find something I'm sure.

There's only 2 models of the zfold3 that can be rooted the rest are locked with no ability to root period because Samsung locked it down. There's a guide in this section of the forum for rooting that has both models listed and if yours isn't one of those you are **** out of luck
Also, Google makes the Android ROM base. So are you wanting to install a ROM that lacks the Google apps? There is a thread that shows how to remove system apps, but you might remove things that are required for Android to run.
I can understand the idea you have, but you may not be in luck for a working result.

Well you can remove gapps with adb app control app on windows and using debugging settings. But you'd lose out on getting security updates from Google. And no telling how much it would break Samsung stuff. No clue how it would turn out. But it wouldn't be a custom ROM. It would be a severely stripped down Samsung stock ROM. If you try it and don't like it, just wipe it and start over. Keep us in the loop and let us know how it works.

Just use your 1000 dollars, and buy a pixel 6 pro and install graphene os, that's about as good as your going to get, unless you decide to build your own room based on lineage os, but with a phone this expensive, your not gonna find custom ROMs. Or look into gsi's and have a play with those, pretty much your only option or choice im afraid, unless you want a crippled stock Samsung ROM, which would be pointless
Honestly man, if you are wanting to De-Google your phone and be able to do a lot of things like this, the LAST thing you should have done is go with such a new phone. Especially if you know ANYTHING about Android and Rooting. You should know that rooting is not always a thing and in the case of new phones, it can take a while to get it to where you want/need. Like YEARS.
What you SHOULD have done is gone with an older, more customizable phone that has a TON of ROM's and support in this regard.
In short, RESEARCH. Buying a phone that you want and then going out to the modding community and making a request like this is going to get you... well... pretty much what you're getting...
Good luck, but I can promise you that you are not going to get what you want 100%, but, I hope that the suggestions offered here get you close to what you want, but you're not going to get what you want with a Z Fold 3.
