Zooper extremely slow on Note 3 - Zooper Widget General

With every tap on the screen, both in the widget and the settings, Zoopers needs 10 to 30 seconds to respond, mostly followed by a black screen and a shut down of the app. Absolutely no fun to use. Changing some settings takes ages. Example: changing the date format took 6 minutes because of all the waiting between taps, the black screen and the crash of Zooper!!! The same action only took 30 seconds on another device.
What did I do to "cure" this problem: removed and reinstalled zooper, used Themer instead, used Nova launcher, full device reset (Yes, a hard reset) and only installed Zooper Widget Pro and a theme ("Easy Sales" from John Nada). Didn't help at all.

The only time I've noticed this slow performance is when editing a widget installed from The Play store. Editing the AutoSave version went back to instant update.

I've got two notes 3. All is fine.

Well, I've encountered the same problem after the device went through updating. (4.3 > 4.4). Actually it didn't take a lot of time to figure out that the reason are the very fonts. My pre-update widget used to be build on some clock samsung font mostly and it's gone now. So there were a lot of low performanaces during chanching every "wrong" layout.
In a nutshell, it's FONTS fault. You either deleted one and Zooper still looking for it or installed some third party widget witch referes to some font that doesn't exist in your device. Merely replace it in every layout and all will be smooth.

All widgets get 'stuck' every so often

Right now my clock (beautiful widgets) is stuck at 8:58, when it's actually 18:36. My agenda widget and calendar widgets won't update if I add tasks, and I can't refresh them. The clock in the taskbar at the top of the screen is correct.
The widgets get stuck like this once or twice a week, and a restart fixes it.
Anybody else had this issue, or knows what the cause may be?
not had this issue or read about anybody else experiencing this.
My gmail widget does this all the time. Keeps showing old unread messages which I actually have read. Apps is fine.
Clock has never got stuck though.
Btw do we have a fix yet for laggy scrolling on android widgets
do you often end all tasks in task manager? if yes ,that could be the problem

^^One possibility
I have had my Poweramp widget fail to do anything from time to time. The task manager must be ending the task required for it to run. Some apps have an option to stop task managers closing them.

I do, yes. Could that be doing me more harm than good? I'll lay off it for a while and see if the problem is less regular.
Disable the WinAmp widget and restart your device, don't kill the tasks for a while.
I think that's the best you can do for test.

I can reproduce this at will on my HOX. I've opened a case with HTC on it too. It *appears* that this is being caused by HTC's super-duper agressive task killing (it's a feature, not a bug), killing off sleeping processes that keeps widgets with live data updated. After a reboot, facebook widget legs me gleefully scroll through posts, beweather can be updated by clicking "update", and the power control widget will change the "light" under the button based on the state of that which the button drives, however after using the phone for awhile, loading/unloading apps and whatnot, the memory falls below the threshold and the in-built task killer goes to town and hangs up a good deal of apps and then the widgets are frozen until the next reboot. I know the interface isn't frozen because any widget with a shortcut (touch and run something) still works, and the facebook widget registers a scroll "touch" by the arrow highlighting, but the data never changes, so it has to be something behind the scenes that went away and shouldn't have.
If anyone has any other suggestions as to a cause, let me know, I'll happily pass on to HTC in my case with them.

I got the exact same problem, but only on the CM9.1 (which according to the development thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706001 has been incorrectly tagged as Alpha 8 on the Cyanogenmod download site). The widgets are frozen, but are interactive - if I touch my frozen Beautiful Widget the weather page appears. If I touch the buttons on my frozen Apollo music player widget, it plays/pause/skips music tracks etc but the widget itself doesn't get updated. A restart of the launcher (Settings --> Launcher --> Homescreen, and then exit the Settings app by pressing back back back) fixes the issue... for a while, before the widgets eventually get stuck again. See screenshot (note actual time vs Beautiful Widgets time).
Searched the forums, the CM9 thread and on Google elsewhere but no one else seem to have the same issue. Very puzzling. One guy has a similar issue but it got solved when he switches off "Forced GPU rendering", which didn't work for me. Would appreciate any help!
Cheers,
Kelvin

had same prob a while ago, installed ROM Toolbox and under 'performance overview' clicked on auto memory manager/presets/...>mild<... ticked apply on boot and apply, rebooted and bingo no more freezing widgets.
it may be that simple for you (or maybe not) give it a shot why not?.. hehe

Thank you! It did help greatly in minimising the problem, but it hasn't stopped it totally. In the last 12 hours since implementing your suggestion, the widgets had frozen once, and I noticed it after I was streaming some videos. I'm guessing the video streaming triggered the "OMG we need more RAM, KILL THE WIDGETS!" response of the OS but other than that the widgets are ticking along happily.
Would be great if there's a more permanent solution to this, but I'm guessing this would require the CM developers looking into it.
Cheers! :good:
Ah. Well, after web browsing (which strangely causes the HTC One X to heat up more than I'd expect it to), the widgets are back to being stuck. I guess the ROM is not quite ready, but being a new user I can't feedback to the development thread on my experience with the ROM.
Perhaps I'll head back to a Sense-based ROM. (The Jellybean ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763240 is excellent, but MX Player on s/w decoding doesn't have audio, and Beautiful Widgets disappear upon reboot or USB connect...)
Cheers again for your help, beanbean50.
Have same issue with multiple widgets. Anyone close to finding a solution? Or do we have to wait for the next OTA update?

I'm using a Motorola Atrix 2(ICS) and have the same issue , it's not just task killer i guess , when you uninstal /freeze some system apps this can happen , and if you're using a custom launcher (nova prime to me) , just restart the launcher and they'll start working again , sometimes you have to restart the launcher twice , you can't do this if you're using a stock launcher obvious

Nova the widgets all need to be restored every time I boot

I just tried to use Nova and every time I turn my phone on it shows squares that say tap to restore widgets and each widget needs to be reconstructed. Example I use circle launcher lite for my icons and every time I reboot I have to setup the apps, icon and label for each widget. Also I use Power Toggles and each time I reboot I have to try and restore it but sometimes I get what appears to be small globes of the earth and can't do anything with them. I use Resizable Sticky Notes to show my appointments in text on the screen and every time I reboot all the info for it is lost.
What am I doing wrong? I am sure everyone else is not having to go through this or Nova Launcher would not be popular.

[Q] Fire Phone & Launchers

Hi all,
I have jumped on the Amazon Fire Phone. I'm already a prime member, using an old LG P930 with Cyanogenmod, but as you can imagine the hardware is a bit old. For $100.00 (since I'm already a prime member the extra year of Prime would have been purchased anyways) this phone was a no brainier for me. My question is, what launcher are you guys running? The Nova launcher works well, but gives an error when installing widgets. Trebuchet fails to launch unfortunately. So far my favorite launcher is Cheetah Launcher by CC Launcher. Everything works, it's clean, and allows the use of my widgets. (Pandora and 1 weather is a must for me). Swiping up to go back works just fine. The only thing I don't like is you don't get notifications of emails or messages in the dock. Also, the default AOS status bar seems a bit weak. It notifies you and the notification goes away. I have been seeing something, wanting to grab it later, and then forget. :|
Anyone else got any launcher or good apps that go well with them to make it more user friendly? I'm very impressed what a simple launcher and side loading apps will give you with this device with out downgrading it or rooting it.

I've tried nova launcher and Doodol launcher. They both seem to work with the exception of wallpapers
Anyone have any idea of what needs done to get wallpapers working?
On 3.5.0 wallpapers only work with root (xposed tweak)
Yahoo Aviate works well with sll of their built in wallpapers (no widgets work, and you can't select a picture from your gallery though)
Buzz Launcher works with wallpaper support (including your own images). No widgets work though.
I tried a bunch of launchers today and those two are the best so far
So annoying that widgets didn't work on Nova, which has always been our preference, so I set up GEL on wife's new phone. So far she's ok with it, except for being confused how to get out of the Google Now panel (she thought it was an app and was trying to swipe up to get "back" not realizing it was just the left most panel of the launcher).
One thing I did try to set up also that isn't working is Pie Control. It worked for a little bit when first loaded, but subsequent attempts to activate it haven't been successful. I suspect the swipe-in capabilities are hi-jacked by the Fire OS.
Another annoyance is the inability to make direct-dial shortcuts.
I installed, or attempted to install the GNL and wasn't successful. I'll give it a go again. I think I remember the install took, but it wouldn't open the launcher. Still, if looking around, check out that Cheetah Launcher. It just doesn't give notifications in the dock.
Speaking of notifications, does anyone know of a good notification bar? The stock bar on this phone doesn't show an icon that there is a pending kik message, voicemail, text, etc.

So I installed the Google Now Launcher .apk again. It then stated I needed google search. Downloaded that .apk. It told me to clear my launcher defaults, I did, but Google Now Launcher isn't an option in the launcher selection. Any idea?
Never mind. I restarted the phone and is good to go. I seem to like the Cheetah Launcher much better so far!
I use Vire Launcher. Its built in wallpapers work perfectly and all widgets work and can be resized. It also has some cool effects.
tried vire launcher and dodol launcher. neither launcher seems to update my missed call count or text messages count properly. ie always showing missed calls.
anybody having this issue as well, or know of a fix?

I've installed a few launchers, okay - a lot of launchers. Below are the ones that I found that give the count of SMS, missed calls, etc.
- Nine Launcher (not a huge fan)
- C Launcher Lite (not bad - not very customizable)
- Solo Launcher (pretty slick - but outside widget support doesn't work)
I'm currently on the hunt for a good status bar or notifier.
The Google Now Launcher seems to work very well without any lag. Its very light weight although not very customizable. So far it seems to be a good place to start until other launchers become more compatible. I added the dashclock widget to the homescreen, with better weather addon, plus the other alerts I need and this seems a complete setup right now that matches my Nexus 4 setup.

Drag one icon and drop onto another icon. This creates a folder that you can then name.
GoLauncher Ex
GoLauncher Ex seems to work well, all widgets worked for me

Thanks, but this is only working at the home screen, not in the apps menu.
Is it working for you in Apps menu as well? Let me know i have tried 100 times, and soon as i try to drag 1 icon it takes me to the home screen,.

I don't think you can make folders on the apps menu. I don't seem to be able to on my Nexus 4 with its stock launcher, so its no surprise you cant do it in the Google launcher we are loading.
Thanks for this question though. I thought the launcher was limited to 3 pages but I found that you can create more empty pages by long pressing the home screen and moving the existing side pages to one side of the home page, then dragging icons to the side that now has no page to create a new page. I tried simply dragging icons earlier but it would not form a new page until I moved the old page first. Strange process but it works.
Fire Phone Lauchers - Wallpaper and Widgets
Hi All -
I've gone through just about every launcher I can find to find one that both wallpaper and Widgets work on... With no luck.
Buzz Launcher has wallpaper working, a number of launchers have widgets working, but none with both...
Has anyone else had any luck with both? Do we know what makes one or the other not work? Would rolling back to older versions of some of these launchers (pre-lollipop and kitkat) work?
Thoughts? Help? Suggestions?
Thanks!!!
Has anyone tried Action Launcher Pro? I wonder if it gets along with Fire Phone (no root).
I've tried at least 20 different launchers today. The only one that has wallpaper and widgets working is still Vire Launcher.

[Q] Problem with widget restart after exiting app.

Hi.
just got a new LG g3, ( auro 2Gb version).
and mostly it`s working really good. But comming from a old Note 2, i`m a little dissapointed in how "laggy" it is in some parts..
When i get the different apps up and running it`s seamless, and launching them is about the same speed as the old note 2.
Screen responce is also good,
But the problem is when exiting a app ( facebook, game, sms or any other app that stays open for more than 2 min. )
It seems like it is closing the "background" apps like widgets and the launcher in general, so when i exit, the launcher is empty for about 2-5 sec ( it acts just as when you restart your phone, it just takes a few sec for all apps\widgets to start)
this only happens if i`m using a app for a few min, if i just go into one and exit within a shirt time it acts normal. ( with my note 2, if i pressed the home butten, it was back into the launcher within 1 sec with the launcher screen fully populated. )
Is this something others are seeing to? I might not be used to the phone yet, but my old note 2 seems more "seamless" in user interface...= better software. )
up...
seeing it's the 2gb version it's mostly because of your other apps that run in the background and take up RAM, so the launcher has to be shut down everytime whenever the system feels like there isn't enough free RAM and decides to free some. afterwards (when you return to the homescreen) it restarts itself and it may take some time like a full restart as you mentioned because let's face it, it's not a fast launcher. the launcher is kind of a hog in my opinion. both RAM-wise and speedwise. I find that most of the people who are complaining about sluggishness use stock launcher. try using nova launcher (you can adjust it to shut off the screen on double tap with a small app called screen off and lock), it's much snappier and offers lots of extra customization options (like faster and/or different transition animations, different icon/homescreen row and column counts, label/icon changing, app hiding etc.), on top of it all it uses only about 1/3-4 amount of RAM compared to the stock launcher while allowing you to customize bunch of stuff. you can find also same-looking widgets if you use something like zooper widget, and get a g3 icon pack (there's a huge and good one in the playstore already) if you like the original looks like I do, but without all the lag and waiting.

Bugs encountered in 9.4.25 and older Pie-based Beta builds

1 - In case of a second launcher installed along side the default one, the system will always ask users to set a default launcher every single time the phone reboots even though one is already installed.
2 - Notification items disappear from the notification shade just a few seconds after they appear and will disappear instantly if you use the cleaner widget to free up some memory.
3 - Battery is drained like crazy during idle.

3. What is "draining like crazy" for you?
