Griffin Car Pod/Dock - Moto X Accessories

Where the heck can I get one? Been out of stock/coming soon for weeks on Motorola site and Griffin site. Think it might have actually been taken off Moto site now.
I really want one, where can I turn?

They stopped making them, and from what most people say, they were hardware-defective, and not very well made. Your best bet is hoping for Motorola to make their own (which is unfortunately quite doubtful).
Otherwise, try to find a non-****ty universal dock (and do some NFC magic with it), or wait to see if a company like iBolt makes one which supports the phone.

What mounts are people here using? Any recommendations?

I've been using the RAM Mount Universal X Grip - http://www.rammount.com/Products/XGriptradeMounts/tabid/4687/Default.aspx. I found mine on Amazon for $10 less than the official site. It's quite good, and I can obviously use it with my next phone just fine. I really just needed something to hold the phone to my windshield if I want to use navigation, not too worried about built in charging, etc.

I second the RAM mount. Got mine early this week and its the best built mount I have ever used. Ordered mine from Amazon as well.

Back in stock today, but is it different? The site does not say it can charge while docked, but the Griffin page does.

This universal mount doesn't charge or turn the device to car mode automatically but while I wait for hopefully ibolt to make one or the griffin one to come in stock I use this one and to be honest it works really really well.
iMagnet
Its obviously made for the iphone but I have used it with my Moto X, S4, and Note 2 and never had a problem. It comes with 3 metal plates to put either in between your case and phone or you can use the adhesive tape and stick it to a case or the phone (I wouldn't do that though). I use the round metal plate and I stick it between the back of the phone and my case and it just sticks up there and it doesn't move around at all.
If you could find a way to stick a piece of thin metal above the camera and another right below the camera and stick it on the imagnet mount it will activate the car mode. The Moto X (like most of the other Motorola phones in the past) use magnets to activate the car mode.

Modded Holder for Tab 10.1 (for car)

Just thought I'd share this. It was so easy. I couldn't stand how using the holder as it comes because it was always in my direct line of sight while driving. Its kinda dangerous to have something block that much of my view. So what I did was take the tab holder and took off the pivit part of it, slid it into the car holder I had for my phone and it fit almost perfect. It clips into the heater/AC vents.
I'll get all the info on it later tonight when I get home.

Yes it is. Combined with a phone holder that I bought a while back from Walmart for around $20. Sorry guys. Got busy. For sure tonight with details and a video.
Hello...i am looking to buy this one...could u please post some pics and may be a video?
Neat idea. This would be great if the tab was a 3g and you get a good GPS app. Or I suppose tethering your tab to your phone to use for gps. With a nice big screen to look at, it could make things convenient.
I'm desperate to find something like this, can you give detailed instructions for how you did that?

eBay search, now around £10 if I remember right. I have a black one for my S2 which will be used on my blue S3. My dad's S3 above is on his white S2 dock.
Dock works just fine with the rubber seat that comes with it, the phone is solid when docked. Case users will need to remove the seat from the dock. People should confirm what cases fit in this dock when attached to the S3 but I imagine all official mesh style cases will be fine as the S2 is just fine with them minus the seat.
Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered 2 of them ;-)
Saw your post in another thread, thanks for the heads up, ordered two off of Ebay just now, one for home and one for the office. $11 each.
It really is one of the nicest looking docks I have seen, probably because it is in similar style to the iPhone one
Cheers mrk. Just bought one for £6.50.

Looks like this one will not be compatible with some cases. While the OEM version will absolutely be compatible with most cases. See pic below.
I'll go for the charger that lets me use a case. I learned that lesson already. You think it won't be a big deal taking the case off and putting it back on. But for me at least, it gets pretty annoying after awhile even if it does become second nature.

ya I just ordered ad GS3 from expansy and this item from ebay.
Zenis dock works with official mesh case so any case similar will also be fine
Flip case not included in that though!
I was expecting to see a dock with an ugly design, but it was actually nice, and that was the product you recommend. Looks nice. I will save it for later when I have my device.
Add me to the list! just ordered 2. Thanks for the heads up!
I really would have liked to get a dock this time around, but unfortunately my kid steals my phone all the time and having it in a dock means too much wear & tear and the possibility for it to be bent out sideways from the dock instead of pulled out, damaging the ports.
So, I bought a regular "Though Out ped3-u universal stand" instead, because my kid at least knows to yank the cable out the right way by the wire. My last stand was a portable desk stand, but was meant for a tablet, and my kid managed to destroy that, so, this ped3-u should hold up much better, being solid steel.
(And I suppose wireless charging would be even more ideal where fat fingered kids are concerned...)
Dock bought!

Duracell powermat case review!

The other powermat thread was so cluttered up with extraneous crap I decided to post here
I wanted to get rid of wall warts with our two phones, 2 tablets, Portable speaker, Nintendo DS, iPod etc... I bought this:
Powermat home/office from amazon. Sadly, the 1A output does not work on the galaxy tab 10.1 or the HP touchpad.
plus another pair of the universal pucks. cost me $45 total delivered. the kit in the link came with 8 or 9 tips.

I looked at the back from Verizon for my AT&T phone but it was noticeably thicker than standard and my spiegen cover would not fit over it, plus it ONLY works with QI which is NOT part of this powermat. I even took my mat into the verizon store to test and it didnt work. UGH. well, i knew Duracell was working on the case so I stuck with it.
Ordered my case yesterday Directly from the Duracell-Powermat webiste and it arrived today! yay for being close to Memphis.
to put the case on, line up the USB plug to the phone and insert it, once in, tilt phone back into the case and slide rubber molding around the top. to remove, hole the top corner edge with your fingers and push on the flash area with your thumb.
First impressions, I like it. it fits really good. id say 1/8th of an inch thicker. Really not bad at all. the case has a very good feel to it and the buttons work well underneath it. the Pass thru USB works perfectly and YES it does read my TecTiles. that said they pickup best when placed between the Powermat Logo and the camera Lens. but they work every time. All nfc functions work great. Also the powermat will turn back on a charge the phone up more if need be. Charging is very fast at 1.0amps. Faster than the wall wart it came with.
it is backwards compatible with all powermat products. so you dont need the new white ones.

Not bad, $35 for the case and $25 for the power mat. Just when i thought i was done buying accessories for my phone
Looks like it wont work with MHL
I have one question inly. Does this have a batter in it? I doubt it because i believe its just a wireless charging enabler. Would be sweet if it had a battery in that bad boy for backup power that would wirelessly charge on the mat.

I am thinking of getting this product (just the case version), I am wondering if it will still work if I slap a TPU case on top of it.
Any kind of feedback would help. Thanx.
if you're going to spend that much money, why not just do either the palm touchstone mod or get the qi wireless receiver and transmitter instead? they'll end up cheaper and in the qi case, it'll be reuseable for future products that uses qi standards..
EDIT: You probably wont be able to add a case of your choice on it as well since the size will be very different from the original s3 size.

I like the option of just getting into my car and placing the phone on a the dock. It immediately holds it and also charges it. No messing with wires and a dock holder. I thought I will take it one step further and put a TecTiles on it, so it can start my bluetooth connectivity and other options. All this would be one step.
It also come with a case version, which I am probably going to get. Just did not want to add bulk.
if it works it works, but you will be stuck using it with only their product line and no one else's.
It's up to you though.. i'd rather get a universal option rather than something that is limited to one company only. (I can use chargers from nokia, energizer, oregon scientific, etc while you're going to have to buy from magnetyze) Also to note, once you change your phone, you would have to wait and see if they'll create a case/backing for your next phone if you want to continue using the set or you'll just have to ebay it off or toss it in the trash.
Well... i also don't trust magnets to hold my phone in place while i'm driving as well... I'd rather have a dock that grips it nice and tight rather than a magnet, but that's just me.

Desktop stand?

Can anyone recommend a good desktop stand for the Moto X? Not looking for a charging dock - just something stable to prop up the phone on your desk.
I use an old black metal book end I found. Put some bends in it...Like a lip for the device to sit in. Then put a thin strip of foam tape where it sits and on the back. It fits any device and can easily be bent for different angles.

The second one comes with the special charger cable that many of the earlier Motorola phones (including my Droid M) used to go into dock mode. Since it doesn't work on the X (magnets are used again) you can get the first one.
It does the job, but is expensive. (I had to remove the links so it would post)

I got a case with a kickstand - the puregear one for the Moto X. The kickstand props the Moto X up on my desk.
Of course, if you don't want to cover up the back of your device, that won't work for you.
My Moto X is the Dev Ed so I have the fugly woven white back, which I WANT to cover up it is so ugly.

I have 2 of the regular ones and 2 of the XL ones.
i bought them back in my OG droid and Droid X days. They both work perfect for the Moto X in portrait or landscape mode, except when it has a case on. If you have a case on, go with the XL one, which I prefer anyway.
I used these stands for every phone I've had. They are perfect bc sometimes i need portrait and sometimes landscape. They look nice as well.
