rooCase Origami Slimshell vs Poetic Slimline - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Accessories

Just got my new Kindle Fire HDX 7"for Christmas and am now looking to protect it. I want a good quality case, but don't want to add much weight as I enjoy to lightness of it. Has anyone tried the two of these cases and can recommend one over the other? I read the post for the Poetic and was on Amazon to buy it when I saw the rooCase which appears almost like a hybrid between the official Amazon origami case and the Poetic. My two criteria would simply be quality and weight. I did also like how the rooCase can stand the HDX in portrait mode in case I get lazy when reading and want to prop it up. Thanks for any help.

I have the RooCase Origami Slimshell for my HDX 8.9, but I had the Poetic Slimbook style instead of the Slimshell. The only plus the Poetic Slimbook had over the Roocase for me was the stylus hook, and even then it was in a poor location. I have since returned my Poetic case.
The RooCase Origami Slimshell is what I'm using right now. It is light, it is smaller than the Poetic Slimbook, and probably really close to the same size as the Poetic Slimshell. The magnetic closure holds tight even when I throw it in my backpack. The back shell doesn't attach magnetically the way the official origami case does, it has a very secure wrap around rubberized plastic frame that clips in place. No amount of shaking by myself or my rogue three year-old got it to fall out.
There is one problem with the RooCase that I've run into occasionally. When you wrap the front cover around flat to the back like you would for extended reading, it will sometimes put the device in sleep mode the same way it does when the cover is closed on the front. I'm guessing the magnet that controls that is just really strong and is affecting the device through the rear case panel. If it had a stylus hook, and didn't have that sporadic turning off flaw, this would be my dream case.
I chose this one because at the moment it's the only case I can find that will stand the HDX 8.9 up in portrait mode other than the official origami case. It does do the various stand positions very well. (You get 1 Portrait, 3 Landscapes, and 1 Typing position that are all very stable.) I even had it in portrait stand mode on a blanket on my lap and it didn't get wobbly. Build quality is really good. Mine is starting to pick up some "dirt" marks though. I have the purple color and there are some darker shadings starting to show around the fold lines in the front cover. (I have children who abscond with my Kindle who aren't as careful about clean hands first.)
Hope that helps you!

Recently picked up the roocase for HDX 8.9. I love it so far. I don't get the sleep issue you describe when folding the cover over. Seems like it works as it should.

[Q] Anyone seen a good play-through case

Has anyone found any play-through form fit cases for the A100?
Right now I've got a Belkin neoprene sleave that protects it in my bag, but there have been a few times where I've been knocked into and had the tablet go flying, or simply dropped it (thats one slippery device!!). So a play-through form fit case would be perfect.
I contacted a few accessory stores here in Canada but with no luck. Figured someone else out there would have seen SOMETHING.
Thanks
I use the actual Acer case. It's not bad.

A100 Cases

ACER finally has their Accessory store up and showing all the goodies. I bought the CARBON FIBER case which is $40 US. I also have the Black case $30 US but the Carbon fiber is much better quality. Looks like they also have some Silcone cases (bumper cases) they call them.

Nice! The carbon fiber case is exactly what I was hoping to find...as are the bumper cases actually. I find the A100 to be really really slippery, and there have been a lot of times where I'm using it in bed while going to sleep and nodded off...of course dropping the A100 in the process
Luckily it's a tough little beast and survived the short falls from my bed.
Now, the question is...trying to find this stuff in Canada!

I'm not sure what you mean by "play-through", but if you mean a case that lets you use the tablet without removing it from the case, then this one from The Source :
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/prod...e&category=Tablet-accessories&product=1719056
might fit your needs.
It has served me well for the past month.

Yeah, thats exactly what play-through means in the case world
I'll check that out. Thanks.
I JUST ordered the official Acer Carbon Fiber case previously mentioned in this thread. Canadian suppliers started getting them this week and I was able to custom order it from a local computer store. Unfortunately it's on order still with the supplier (Synnex Canada) with no ETA.

this case looks promising, but it is a preorder onle right now.
Best Buy is now selling the Acer cases on their site. Probably cheaper shipping than Acer's 10 buck shipping. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer+-+...10275571&skuId=3530371&st=acer case&cp=1&lp=3
Thanks for the link, carbon case is on the way. The tablet keeps sliding down in the Acer naugahide one.

Great case for A100
I purchased this case about a month ago. It was sent from China so it takes at least 3 weeks to arrive .
After a week of break in period the case feels great to the hands. The leather used on the outside of the case acquires a nice soft feel and has NO leather smell like the Acer smelly case.
All ports and buttons are accessible and the A100 hold firmly in the case with no screen visibility restrictions.
The case open steno style as opposed to book style in the portrait screen position.
As a bonus they also include a very nice NON glare screen protector.
$16.95 with free shipping....it's a great deal.

My Acer Carbon Fiber case is backordered, so I decided to try another case instead. But I couldn't decide between them, so I ordered two cases from amazon to try out. Figured since there's not much info on these yet, I might as well be the test subject
These are the 2 cases:

I especially like that there's an elastic strap on the back for you to securely hold the tablet one handed in portrait mode for e-reading type activities.

Yes, I know how to google
I found all of those stores weeks ago, literally all of them, plus some others. Contacted each one and was told they had no clue on ETA, and they wouldn't sell to me until they had stock. So through my office at work I had my boss contact the universal Canadian supplier for these cases, Synnex. We sell computer hardware to corporations, so we order from there all the time, just usually in large quantities. In this case my boss made an exception for me and ordered a single unit.
I got a much better price than these stores
But unfortunately it turned out Synnex didn't get as many in as planned and now I'm stuck waiting for that order. I don't want to cancel because I asked a favour of my boss to order it for me...looks bad on me coming back now saying "uh, can you cancel that?"
But if these rooCase cases come and suck, i'll do just that and buy from one of the stores you mentioned. I've got no experience with any of them. Do you?
So did anyone get a RooCase? Thoughts?
Sorry about that. I totally forgot to post my reviews!!
I now have 3 cases believe it or not. The rooCASE Multi-Angle , The rooCASE Ultra Slim, and the Acer Carbon Fiber.
I also have the "Black Carbon Fiber Film Shield & Screen Protector - Armorsuit MilitaryShield". Please see my previous posts in this thread for links and pictures. They're clearly labeled.
Here's some quick thoughts, and I can do proper reviews tomorrow or Monday.
Black Carbon Fiber Film Shield & Screen Protector for Acer Iconia Tab A100 7-Inch Tablet - Armorsuit MilitaryShield
This is a pretty standard sticker type protector that doesn't offer mch protection beyond scrapes and scratches. But it does look great on the tablet. I've had a few carbon fiber cases and similar protectors for other devices, and they all look the same. If you've seen the official Acer Carbon Fiber portfolio case, this has the same pattern.
It was fairly easy to install, with the only challenge being lining up the separate pieces. There's a huge piece for the back, then pieces to cover all 4 sides.
The screen protector is pretty good. It went on very easily, is meant for our device so there's no custom cutting needed on your part. It fits perfectly.
The tablet looks really good in this skin. But I'm not sure what use it really is. On cell phones the idea is you can keep it in your pocket without scratches from keys and change and what not, but we don't exactly do that with these tablets.
The screen protector on the other hand is great.
rooCASE Multi-Angle (Black) Leather Folio Case Cover with Stand and Elastic Hand Strap
This case is really good. Pretty high quality leather and very well made. It fits the tablet perfectly. The inside seems to be some sort of microfibre cloth and feels great. The elastic handstrap is somewhat useful, but more gimicky than anything else. The stand portion works well. You can leave it on a desk and watch a movie like that easily. Or more functionally, you can use a bluetooth keyboard with the tablet standing up quite well. The lid is also magnetic, so it stays shut when you close the case up. It's not a very strong magnet but it does the job quite well.
rooCASE Ultra Slim (Black) Leather Case Cover Cover with Stand
This case is fantastic. It's the same high quality leather as the above case, same inside microfibre. But it really is very thin. Much thinner than either the above case or the official Acer Carbon Fiber one. There's no magnetic latch, no elastic or anything to hold the case shut. But it really doesn't need it - the case stays closed just fine on it's own. When open the cover folds easily around to the back, and you hardly notice it's there while using the tablet. The right side and top/bottom has some 'extra' leather sticking out about 1/3rd of an inch, because that's how they sewed it shut to keep it so slim. It's hardly noticeable after a few minutes and not a negative at all. The cutouts match up perfectly with the buttons and slots, and unlike the Acer one, there is plenty of protection where there isn't something to access under the case.
Official Acer Carbon Fiber case:
I don't remember much about this off the top of my head (I'm writing this review in the middle of the night because I can't sleep) so I'll edit the post and do a more formal review tomorrow. From what I remember:
The case looks beautiful. It has pretty good protection on the front and back, but the protection on the sides is lacking. There are only a few straps holding the case in. Thickness wise, it's thinner than the Roocase multi-angle, but considerably thicker than the roocase ultra-slim.
So after all that, here's what I decided:
I've got the Armorsuit MilitaryShield skin and screen protector on. The screen protector helps provide ease of mind while using the tablet. And I didn't want to take the skin off since I paid good money for it and it doesn't get in the way of the other proper cases. It also adds some protection to the sides that are exposed in the various cases, especially the Acer case.
Case wise...I'm using the rooCASE Ultra-Slim. It simply feels the best in your hand is the lease obtrusive in use, yet provides great protection. I've dropped the tablet a few times, once onto my tile floor by accident, and the tablet was fine. I love how thin it is compared to the other cases.
Again, I'll do a proper review in the next couple of days with some pictures.
Got questions? Ask away

Kindle Fire or similar sized cases on A100?

Looking at the dimensions between the two...
A100 7.6" x 4.6" x 0.5"
KFire 7.5" x 4.7" x 0.45"
You'd think maybe you can squeeze the A100 into a Kindle Fire case. I know Otterbox offers a KF one, but the Acer line isn't ubiquitous enough to find real cases. Anyone brave enough to have tried?
i'm using a kindle fire slip in case for my a100 (thats got full body ghost armor on it) an I can tell ya its a tight fit with the slip in style case.
I am using a notebook case but it has elastic straps so it's almost big enough for me to fit in it.
The case you are looking at would likely work fine with width and length but the thickness is what will likely be the issue. I suggest going to Wally World and just test out the ones they have then you will know and be able to order or buy from another source based on type and size.
I kinda like this flip thing that came with mine. It has hard covers and felt inside. I have screen protectors on the way also. Pretty good deal off Amazon, 3 for 3 bucks and free shipping. Same company that makes the protector for my EX.
Good luck finding a case you like. Let us know what you decide on. I might like it better than what I have now.
Otterbox's normally fit like a glove and have button revisions that go thru the hard cover that integrate to the silicone layer. Same for the port holes. So it would have to say it wouldn't work.
I use a cheap leather case that turns into a stand with magnetic closure. EBay has them for about $8.

Tale of 3 cases

I have tried 3 cases for the new Nexus 7, all from Amazon.
Poetic Slimbook - stiffener in spine makes it so rigid that it's difficult to fold it open like a book, stylus loop is on the back not side, tablet tends to work itself out just enough to make swiping difficult (there is no velcro to secure the flap holding the tablet in). The fit is good and everything is easily accessible. Magnetic on/off closure works fine. A little heavy at 5.4 oz.
Poetic Slimline - Nice light case (3.8 oz) and the tablet fits snugly and securely in the frame. The drawbacks to this case are that it offers little protection in a fall, and the magnetic on/off mechanism is unreliable, choosing when it wants to work or not.
Caseology Ultra Slim Fit Leather Multi-Angle Stand Case - Nice case overall, good fit, well made and has velcro to secure the tablet's hold in flap. It folds open nicely because the spine is flexible not rigid. Lighter than the Poetic Slimbook (4.7 oz). It has no stylus holder but not a big deal. But this case is near useless because access to the power and volume buttons is virtually impossible. The cutout really doesn't expose the buttons. It's only open on the side not the lower edge of the case.
So there you have it. Three cases down and still looking for one that has it all. Suggestions?

It used to say it had the magnet closure. The one I got does.
I get the impression some of these vendors don't know what they've got.
Here's another example. I Got the Caseology foli case and you can't really get to the power and volume buttons because the opening is high on the side (toward the front) and the buttons are really close to the bottom. Their response was that I ordered a case for the old Nexus 7. My Amazon order says FHD 2013 and I also tried my wife's original Nexus 7 in the case and it doesn't fit that either. It is too wide for the case and the buttons on that don't line up either. No amount of explaining where the button opening needs to be got through. I finally sent them a link to the Poetic and Roocase so you can see the cutouts.
Still looking for a better case. Have the Poetic Slimbook and Slimline and Caseology Folio so far. Ordered (and some are in transit) are the Poetic GraphGrip, The Cruzerlite TPU case, and the Roocase Dual Station Folio.
At these introductory prices it's cheap enough to try a bunch.

Fintie Leather Slim Shell Case

How's it going everyone?
Back with a review of another case I recently picked up from Amazon for the Kindle HDX 8.9!
I recently reviewed the Otterbox for our awesome tablets and after having used it for about two weeks now I have begun to think that it may add a little too much bulk. Thus I began searching for a thin and light case (which completely ignores why I had picked up the Otterbox in the first place). Moving on, I came across Fintie's newly released Leather Slim Shell case which is currently going for $5.99 if you are a Prime account holder otherwise it goes for $37.99 regular priced.
The case itself is very well made and feels durable. The cover has three indentations that run from top to bottom which allows it to be folded into a triangle for propping your tablet at two varying angles. Also the cover incorporates a magnet which keeps it closed and not flapping open wildly (it does not support a sleep/awake function when opening and closing like similar cases of this variety). The inside of the cover is lined with a micro fiber felt for keeping the screen clean and dust free which is always nice. When you snap your tablet in all four corners are protected but the left and right sides with ports are exposed. Wish one of these slim cases would actually incorporate an all around shell for better protection. Seeing as how this doesn't offer the greatest protection but doesn't add much weight or bulk to the Kindle HDX 8.9 I give this case an overall 4 out 5 stars.

What Case for someone that wants it light and thin

Yeh I know there is a topic about cases which I have read somewhat but it's getting quite long int he tooth and still not convinced what case to get for my needs.
I am after a case that is light and thin. Would not consider anything that isn't, even if it has a great finish like Noreve etc (Had one for my S2 but it adds too much bulk)
My main areas of interest I would like are
- Thin (lots of the nice looking leather cases are thick
- Light (same as above)
- The amount and quality of how the case stands up is good
- Material feels nice to hold
Now I am looking at the following cases.
- Genuine Samsung
- Seems the thinnest and lightest
- The standup arrangements are fairly limited
- The flap doesn't stay closed when carrying it a certain way
- Expensive
- Poetic Slim
- Reasonable thin and light but not the same as Samsung case (can it be felt while holding???)
- I like the arrangement when it lies almost on its back and has the buttons and usb port at the top
- The flap stay shut by a magnetic when holding it
- Reasonably cheap
Moko Ultra Slim
- Looks OK but nothing stands out over the Poetic one that I know of???
Any other suggestions for a LIGHT and THIN case?
Heard that there are some issues with the digitizer and the magnets on the poetic. A few youtube vis have been posted....
Anyone confirm?
Poetic Slimline
I own (and use daily for over a month) the Poetic Slimline. It's thin, light and looks good. Magnets keep the flap closed nicely. I have had zero problems and I use the s-pen for sketching a lot. Even the edges of the screen show absolutely no problems. So I don't know if I am lucky or the others just have a faulty case.
The only thing I dislike is the flap as a stand. It works, but it doesn't feel as sturdy. I would have been better if it was more like those iPad covers.
I have been using the Poetic Slimline on the Note (in red, if that matters) for a couple of months as well. It is a very nice case and I have no problems to report regarding the S-Pen. However, there are a few things related to the lid that are starting to annoy me and have me investigating alternatives.
1. The magnets that are supposed to hold the lid closed are not strong enough. If I hold the tablet as if it were a notebook with the spine (the side with the capacitive buttons) resting on my palm and start walking, the lid will open by itself after a few steps. To prevent this, I now hold it on the opposite side so that my palm is holding the lid closed. If I hold the tablet by the edges with the lid facing down, the lid will not stay closed. I also own a Nexus 7 in a Poetic Slimline case and that one has no problems with the lid staying closed. I think the size of the Note may be too much for the magnets.
2. I am not sure I can blame this one entirely on the case, but I have observed some problems with inadvertent screen activation. Because the lid hinge is made of the same leather-like material, it is flexible and allows the lid to slide up or down along the screen while closed. If you slide the lid up by about 5mm, the screen will turn on even though the lid is closed. For me this happens most often when I carry the tablet (in the case) inside a backpack. Similarly, the lid is thin and flexible enough that the home button is easily pressed. There have been several occasions when I have pulled the tablet out of my backpack to find it on and with the S-Voice user agreement on the screen (I don't use S-Voice so have never set it up).
3. This is a minor aesthetic issue, but the tri-fold elements on the lid tend to not remain flush with the screen when closed; it is probably just the nature of tri-fold covers. Personally, I would prefer a single piece lid that could be folded back, even if that would mean losing the ability for the case to serve as a stand.
If it weren't for the items above I would be completely happy with the case. In fact, I love the Nexus 7 version of it. I just think the lid material and/or the closure magnets are too weak for the increased screen size of the Note.
Simply can't go wrong with the Roocase executive portfolio here: http://www.roocase.com/Executive-Po...--Black-rooCASE/cat-p/c1000122/p10519301.html
Great protection when you want it and light and slim when you don't. It comes out of the portfolio completely.

I ordered the Poetic slimline case in the end.
I had a quick look at the Roocase and saw the weight and thickness of it and it turned me off. Didn't realise it came out of the portfolio... Hmm, maybe consider that if I don't like the Poetic Slimline
