Google Glass Peripherals BT/USB/WiFi - Glass Development

I have been working with Launchers and Android native apps.
The conversations often turns to the ability to control glass in different ways.
Here we can talk about what we have done, what works and what doesn't.

I noted this in a post elsewhere, but it's obviously more appropriate for this conversation.
I've been playing with background services on Glass that listen for a controller application via Bluetooth commands. The main limitation I've come across is the service's need to be a system app to control Glass globally. Inside a tester app within the same package however, the service works pretty well, other than a delay.
The service has other uses other than global control of Glass. The most appealing idea to me would be using the code within an emulator of some sort (GameBoy maybe?) and using your handheld device as a controller. Even more appealing would be the use of gestures for controls, instead of buttons on a touchscreen. Using gestures, you won't have to look down at your phone to see if your pressing the right button.

ShareKM Glass XE16
Wanted to post this up here since it is an amazing why to control Google Glass
There is an android app called ShareKM. It has been abandoned by its developer but there is a small group of people trying to keep it alive. At any rate the point of it is to control and android device from a computer. There is an apk in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52164367 that has made it so I can plug my Google Glass XE16 into a PC over USB and my PCs keyboard and mouse will throw over. So it acts like it sees my Glass as another screen and just walks the mouse and keyboard over!!!!
If your glass is rooted you can use bluetooth or wifi but a direct USB connection really links your PC mouse and keyboard to your glass. It is just like a PC application I love called Synergy. I use synergy to link one keyboard and mouse across a windows box, a Linux box and a Mac box. A three screen computer effect but three different operating systems!
So when I use Glass Launcher i can use ShareKM to interact with my android apps on my glass. Give it a try it is amazing!

W0w. My Bizlink MHL adaptor & Rii mini keyboard has just arrived!

Hi all,
I have just received my BizLink MHL addaptor and my Rii mini Bluethooth keyboard with touchpad from Mobile Fun. I have just connected them all up tried a brief bit of sofa surfing and then I thought I would test out the bluetooth keyboard and MHL by posting this message to you all.
I have just checked on the Mobile Fun website and the MHL adaptor has now just sold out [it was shown as in stock yesterday] but I am guessing that a lot of you will now have your MHL addaptor. As for the the keyboard there are some issues with it, but as these are the first words that I am typing on it, it will take me some time to get use to it. The keyboard has the four cursor keys [up down left right] which are really useful and the touchpad right mouse button acts as the back button.
However before you rush out and buy this key board I am having serious issues with the key board that I will investicate more after I have clicked send on this post. I will provide more details later.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
OK I have now had some time to test the Rii mini keyboard with the MHL adaptor connected up to the TV. Generally it has the potential of being a very positive experience (apart from some bluetooth communication issues with the keyboard -- more about that later). The four cursor keys work very well as they are fully supported by Android and are especially good for editing text and I can easily navigate round the phone and the browser using them. The keyboard it self is too small for serious typing (if you want to do that then I would recommend getting a full size keyboard). The F1 key acts as the menu button and the esc key and the right mouse button both act as the back button. I can't find find any way to access the home button using the keyboard.
The touchpad works perfectly on when using it connected upto a PC but does not work quite so well when connected to the S2. This shows that this must be android issues with the mini keyboard touch pad rather than the Rii device it self. There is no pinch zoom with the touch pad and dragging the screen to scroll using the touch pad and pressing and holding the left mouse button is possible but very awkward.
The phone works best in landscape mode when connected to the tv but does not always go into landscape mode so you have to go and lift the phone up give it a little shake to make it go into landscape. The software keyboard occasionally comes up on the screen when you don't want it to so you have to press the right mouse button to make it go away. I have found a little trick on the stock browser -- pressing shift and one of the cursor key makes it easer to scroll the browser.
The youtube app works the best when connected to the TV as it automatically plays out the video in landscape at full resolution for an HD def video.
I haven't got to the bottom of the reason that is causing reliability issue with s2 MHL and the mini key board, but it looking like it may be interference on the bluetooth connection. The issue shows it self as the auto repeat characters keep appearing when you don't want them to causing the alternate character choice popup from the virtual key board to keep appearing.
I think bluetooth is generally broken on S2

I just got the Rii Keyboard and it works just fine on my Galaxy Note. The only problem is that i can't find out how to zoom for example in the browser. does anybody have an idea how to do that??? the keyboard is perfekt when you whant to sit on the sofa an connect your phone to the TV an play some games or surf in the internet.
how does it pair with G Note.
I have a Galaxy Note too and thinking about getting one of these keyboards.
What i want to know is, can the Note pair up direct to to the keyboard or do you need to use an otg cable and supplied bt dongle.
Thanks
John.

GameStop Tablet Wireless Bluetooth Controller gamepad

Saw some threads about this in the A500 section, but anyone try this (or other) controller with the A100?
I'd love to see a list of games/apps that work with it.
I'm sure it works great with the emulators
I thought I had found the pairing/installation guide online, but now I can't find it again. So I posted the product description from GameStop's site below.
Gamestop's retail stores don't even know they are selling this online, but it's been available at least since last christmas season.
They are even planning to sell their own branded tablet for gaming.
Here's the details from their site...
===
The Wireless Tablet Game Controller is an incredible accessory only available at GameStop. Consumers can use it with their tablet and an HDMI cable (Micro to standard HDMI- sold at GameStop) to view their tablet games on their HDTV and play form their couch with the wireless controller (up to 30 feet away!). Definitely a new way to game!!
• Simple set up
• Bluetooth wireless technology
• Rechargeable unit with built in batteries and charging cable included
• Mapped control options let you assign buttons to the game actions you want
• Designed to work with select Android tablets
===
Works with Version 1.3 and above of GTA III, I know because I am running it on my A100. As for other games, I am not so sure.
I bought mine when i bought my a100 from gamestop before christmas.
I have used the controller with MAME4droid, Riptide GP, SpeedXGalagus and Cordy.
Riptide GP and Cordy came pre-installed by gamestop, don't know if that makes a difference or not.
controller has at least a 20 foot range as well, it works fine from across the living room with the a100 connected to the TV via hdmi cable. (SpeedXGalagus doesn't work with tv because of orientation).
only problem i have had is that the OS sees the controller as a keyboard, so some non games will refuse to show the onscreen keyboard if the controller is connected/bound.

You can get the keyboard to start poping up like normal. Same thing happens for me with bluetooth mouse. Just click the little keyboard icon down in the bar by the clock and select the keyboard you want to use, and toggle the little slider switch at the top of the menu. Then your keyboard will pop up like normal. You have to do it each time, but at least you get funtionality that way.

Bluetooth keyboard for S3 (with touch pad)

Can anyone recommend a bluetooth keyboard with touchpad for S3?
I never had something like this...so I am kinda confused which one to get...
I plan to use it together with the MHL adapter to the television set.
Thanks in advance.
Edit:
I never used any keyboard with my Android device...so I do not have any idea...how it suppose to work
If I connect the S3 to TV with the MHL connector and the TV+SGS3 about 3-5 meters away from me.... this means re-touching the screen is not comfortable.
This is the reason why I imagined that I would need the touch pad.
Do I really need the touchpad? (plan mainly for browsing, watching movies, youtube)
Actually every bluetooth keyboard should work. Search Amazon or ebay for "bluetooth keyboard with touchpad". Its important to buy a real bluetooth one and nothing with proprietary standards (like most logitech/advertised as "wireless")
Quick look in ebay: Rii Bluetooth Mini Wireless Keyboard With Touchpad More For PC Cool Fahioned aje 150819865177 for 30€
Thank you the quick reply.
I will take a look at it as soon I am back at home.
And...can this work too?

The S3 should work with any keyboard. Correct me if I'm wrong. You can get a USB adaptor if you want to use USB keyboards also.

I tried it with mouse+keyboard via USB and it works.
Unfortunately, I can not do that while connecting to MHL connector, if I understand it correctly.
I want to use it together with my TV which is connected with the MHL converter, this means the keyboard has to be via Bluetooth.
And, I am sitting about 3-5 meters away (I do not have long enough HDMI cable) from my SGS3 so I need a good bluetooth keyboard with working short cuts like home button, volume, etc. and also a touch pad to replace the mouse thing....I do not want to stand up every few seconds to operate the SGS3 directly on the phone.
Hmmm... the Rii keyboards are too small in my opinion.
Do all keyboards with touchpad really that small?
Any other options?
Thanks in advance

The one you posted looks bigger. There is an expensive one with standard keyboard size, the dinovo edge.
But as said before: basically any bluetooth keyboard will do the trick.
first off, you need a Bluetooth keyboard?? for what case?

Yes, I tried my old bluetooth keyboard and mouse (multiple pairing)...but using separated mouse and bluetooth while sitting on the couch, it is not really comfortable
Dinovo? wait I will check.
This one?

Looks good..for the price I will have to play with it around for several minutes before taking the decision of buying. From the price, it is still OK, but depends on the feel during try-out.
I will check it at stores near home before ordering from Amazon
I hope this is the correct one for me
Thanks
Nice! I saw it on youtube...it has docking for charging, etc.
I think will get the dinovo edge
I work with a microsoft bluetooth mouse 5000 and a chinese bluetooth kehboard.... work fine without problem (siyha kernel installed)

I bought finally the Dinovo Edge
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the Dinovo edge uses a usb receiver so you wont be able to use it in conjuntion with MHL.
dinovo edge also works on standard BT, my bluetooth dongle broke and i'm currently just using another bt dongle on my htpc --> should work
No soft control buttons on SGS3 so be careful what keyboard you get!
Hi,
I've been using the cheapest bluetooth and mouse out there whilst I get the hang of the smartphone pc experience. I have noticed that since it is not a Galaxy Nexus, it is impossible to point the mouse to the home button, or bring up the settings (bottom left button). Back buttun is simple because it is just the Esc button on the keyboard. If your going to be sitting 3-5m away from your SGS3 then this will be a deal breaker I'm sure.
Does anyone know a work around for people who are in this situation (i.e. no shortcut keys to control buttons on SGS3 excluding back)?
Cheers,
Stui

Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard + trackpad.
I bought the motorola bluetooth keyboard with trackpad since it has Android shortcuts. I just got it today and tried it for 10 minutes. I found the mouse extremely slow and unaccurate and the keyboard responded a little slow. Im looking for an app maybe so that I can calibrate and adjust the settings.
Also using the original Galaxy MHL/HDMI adapter (the 11 pin version) I got the Image on my TV but the resolution is bigger than the screen so I cant see the whole picture. If anyone knows how to set this up aswell I would appreciate it.
Thank you very much in advance!

Set the tv screen option to full pixel (named like this on my sony) maybe different on yours, to see the full screen.

I also have the Motorola bt kb w/ trackpad. The keyboard is great, but yeah, the mouse movement isnt' the gretest. You can increase the pointer speed inside of Settings -> Language and Input. It makes it more tolerable, but not great. Besides, I've found it a little tedious to use a mouse as most apps are made with just the touchscreen in mind.
Edit: this is the one: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Wireless-Keyboard-Trackpad-Packaging/dp/B006291K7A Woot has had it for $35 shipped recently

bluetooth mouse app

is there an app that enables you to use your S2 as a bluetooth mouse?
i see ones that let you control the cursor with your finger on the phone screen but i mean one that controls the cursor using the phone gyro sensors, so you actually lay the phone on your desk and move it around like a mouse in your hand and mouse buttons are a graphical display on the phone screen.. the volume up and down rocker could even be used as page forward or page back like the side buttons on a mouse.
if this kind of app does not exist, why not? you could basically use your phone to replace another item.. the computer bluetooth or wi-fi mouse.

I remember using an app once, sorry i forgot the name, but on bluetooth, it was painfully slow. I didnt try it on wifi since it was a paid version.
Maybe GRemote? I think there was something like G-Sensor-Mouse.

Remote control apps
you can try Unified Remote:
Unified Remote on Google Play
I used it with a Bluetooth USB stick, but I prefer it over WiFi using my router.
There are both paid and free versions, I use the free one since it offers everything I need: remote control over mouse and keyboard, file browser, task manager.
For real remote control, where you see the computer's screen real time, you should try TeamViewer:
TeamViewer on Google Play
There's also LogMeIn, but it's only paid and pretty expensive:
LogMeIn Ignition on Google Play
NOTE: both of these apps require a client to be installed on the target PC.

What is the best Mouse/ keyboard to use with AFTV?

What is the best way to get mouse control on a AFTV? A few apps need a mouse. My AFTV is wired, so the apps on my mobile don't seem to work. Thanks.
Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 avail on Amazon.
I considered the Logitech, but am now Thinking something smaller (mini keyboard)
I have a Logitech K700 for the GoogleTV. It works wonderfully, even in CWM.
I just bought a MeLe F10 Deluxe combo remote/keyboard/air-mouse and it's pretty fantastic. I had to do a bit of .kl editing to remap the home button to work, so root came in handy, but other than that the thing is great. I was able to program in all of the important buttons from my TV's IR remote so I was able to ditch that remote entirely. It even surprisingly works in CWM and Rbox's boot loader. Well worth $30.
I got an IPazzPort KP-810-16 5-in-1 (air mouse, back-lighted mini keyboard, learning IR remote). It works so well that I am considering buying their Bluetooth version (for my other FTV) so I don't have to plug a RF dongle in the USB of the FTV
How is the Mouse Controls with the MeLe F10 Deluxe Combo, is it done by moving the remote around in the air?
The IPazzPort KP-810 looks good and small. Is the keyboard not to small to use and hows the mouse control?

Yes, it's motion controlled like a wiimote. Right above the directional pad is the button for left mouse click. You click that button when you want to turn mouse mode on (which also turns the back button into right click), and then when you want to turn it off you can just press any of the directions on the D-pad. It works great if you only need a mouse here or there for navigating certain apps, but I wouldn't exactly try to play games with it. That said, my LG TV came with an airmouse remote when I bought it, and the airmouse on this is so much smoother and useable than that remote that it's not even funny. It works surprisingly well.
What about the Lenovo N5902, as anyone tried it with the Fire TV?
I have a mini bluetooth keyboard with touch screen and mouse button that I got from Amazon. It works well. It is a QQ-Tech model lS11-BT05. I first side loaded the settings app and used it to find the keyboard.
I've tried several wireless keyboard/pads (not all with the Fire TV). Though not perfect, the K400 is the best of the lot.

Keyboard is not too small, I think the size is good. I tried other wireless keyboard, either key presses are not registered or key presses got repeated. Those issues don't happen with the IPazzPort and that's why I said it is good. Air mouse control is good too, easy to use
Logitech k400 works great. Best choice imo.

Agreed, I have tried many also, k400 is the best, however, I also own
an old logitech revue, the keyboard for it is a k700 keyboard. It is the mac daddy of them all. it has directional and enter keys below the touchpad.
Here is a link to a picture of it. note the directional arrows below the touchpad. much nicer I am only posting this link so you can see a picture of what it is I'm refering to. not for sale or purchase reasons.

I retired my logitech revue after getting my aftv. Since the keyboard does not come with a usb dongle I just used a regular logitech usb nano receiver and used the software from logitech to link the two in windows. I then connected the nano reciever to the aftv where it is "The Best" keyboard in my opinion. If you don't have a dongle then just buy a logitech mouse at the store or order the nano receiver for $12 off amazon.
before you nay say me you better own own one. lol
I own several Logitech Revues. The keyboard is great. I thought it was IR, not Rf but I could be wrong. Good to know I will be able to reuse it. Do they sell them standalone and with bluetooth?
