Trident Cyclops - Moto X Accessories

Anyone here have the cyclops case? If so, can you post pics of the case? I read a review someone did but all they used were the stock images Trident provides. I'm still undecided between this and the Otterbox Commuter case so the pics would definitely help.

I have a commuter... Fits perfect, great protection... A little slippery maybe. I did get a defender too for work... Cause I need a holster at work. When my defender gets all hacked up, I'll use the commuter on weekends when I don't need a holster.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone.....

I posted a review on the Cyclops on this forum. And yes, I linked to the stock pictures because they are just the same as what you get in person, and my camera at the time was a half-dead Galaxy Nexus.
That said: between the Defender and the Cyclops, I much prefer the Trident case for the size. It's much more pocketable and it's easier to remove. It looks less nerdy and it's simply more elegant. On a size scale, the Cyclops is more comparable to the Otterbox Commuter. It does add a lot of bulk, but with the protection, your phone would have to land on a corner, against the screen, for it to shatter.
However, it does not at all offer the same amount as protection as the Defender, given the materials. The Otterbox Defender is completely obnoxious to remove. But once it's on, it's on. And that thing is a tank. A big, ugly, bulky tank. It's ugly as sin, but it works perfectly, and it's solid.
If you work outside, you'll want that one for sure. It's a monster. If you want decent protection, with a few pros of the Defender (plastic screen cover, padded corners), but without all of that bulk, then the Cyclops is okay. Otherwise, I'm more partial to the Otterbox Commuter.
Between the Commuter and the Cyclops, the biggest difference is that the Commuter doesn't have a built-in plastic screen guard. The one on the cyclops is fairly flimsy. It's basically a capacitive protector that's been glued onto the faceplate. It's fine for me, but I would've preferred something a bit more substantial if possible.
The Biggest Problem with the Cyclops Case: The top of my case doesn't clip shut. I don't know if they're all flawed, or if I just got lucky. There are notches for the clips to snap into place, but for whatever reason (perhaps there was an error when the mold was created and they didn't have access to the phone?), it won't snap shut. I've reached out to Trident, and they've said that I could RMA it for a new one. I tried that, and I haven't heard back from anybody.
It won't fall off, but it's annoying to feel that much wiggle room. You always notice it. If you hold the phone and apply pressure to the top, the case bends and makes a "click" sound where the notches should be snapping into place. It always bugs me.
Given that mine doesn't shut tight properly, I'm going to return it to Amazon if I don't hear back soon, and get the Commuter.
Anyway, I hope that helps you. Refer to my original thread for more info.

Thankfully the commuter case has a few pictures floating around and actual video reviews. I had a commuter for my previous devices and have had a great experience with them.

Thanks and yeah I saw your thread already. I'm not interested in the defender since it's too big. The one thing I don't like about the cyclops is the built in screen protector. I actually don't need a thick case but I just like to change it up with some options since I currently own thin cases.

I would also like to add: avoid this case if you ever plan on taking it off. Mine ripped after the eighth removal (I've been putting it on as I leave the house, as I wait to hear back from the RMA process), at a really crucial spot. Really poor design. What a shame.
I'm going to return mine to the Amazon seller and just get an Otterbox Commuter (unless something better shows up).

Best case for evo

Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.

[Q] Do I get Ballistic HC or the Otterbox Defender?

I'm having a hard time deciding which case to get. I used to have a Seidio Innocase, but the rubber outside became too loose and stretchy for my liking.
Has anyone had both? What are your feelings on them? My main concerns are:
- sturdiness - will the case start falling apart/become loose like the Seidio one?
- size - i understand a little bulk comes with protection, but which one is the smaller case of the two? I want to be able to shove it in my pocket without too much work.
Anybody have a comparison on the two? I tried searching around, but couldn't find any comparisons of them.
I bought the Defender. Put it on my phone and took it off after 10 seconds. sold it on eBay. I've had the Otterbox Commuter which I loved, but yesterday I got the Trident Cyclops and it is awesome! The problem with the defender for me is the entire outside is silicone, i hate that. It doesnt seem like it would stay on the phone very well either. I'm considering purchasing the Ballistic as well just for fun, but the Trident Cyclops has very good protection. I can see it taking a very large drop no problem. I also just found out that they sell 10 different skins for the Cyclops, so you can dress it up all sorts of ways.
edit: post number 420 for me! woohooo
edit 2: oh dang, they also sell a holster for the Cyclops? man this case keeps getting better and better!
ballistic all the way
If you want maximum protection, then the Ballistic is the only way to go. Only thing is the Ballistic also adds the most bulk of any case out there. It's definitely NOT pocket friendly, especially with the outer silicone layer on it. Without the outer silicone layer, it's about the same as the other rugged cases.
When I first got my evo at radio shack the employee had the otterbox and I didn't like the feel or looks so I tried the ballisitic case and I have been happy with it.
I just got the Cyclops from Trident Got to say not complaints here
Trident Cyclops. I got the limited edition green (i doubt it's actually limited edition, but it matches my theme).
It's sturdy, it feels good, it adds a little more bulk than otterbox but less than defender and it protects well. Good stuff, plus they changed the packaging to where the PET protector the camera and LED lights are optional so no blue glow when you take pictures with flash.
100% I haven't taken it off since I got it except for battery pulls. I highly recommend it. Look up a review on youtube.
Holster
Can anyone tell me if the Ballistic HC will fit the Holster without the optional outer silicone cover. I ask because in the video on their web site they put it in the holster with the silicone cover on.
Otterbox shouldn't even be an option.
There are extremes only. Otterbox and Seidio are extremely bad in my experience. Ballistic and Trident are awesome.
to be honest the otterbox commuter series has been my favorite case i have ever had. it is pocket friendly because it has the hard plastic on the outside and silicone on the inside. I have had my otterbox for awhile and I love it. I have a lifted F-150 and have dropped my evo getting out of my truck several times. this is essentially dropping from about 5 and a half feet and my case has yet to be damaged let alone my phone. these drops have destroyed screens on other phones but it has been safe in my otterbox. the next biggest plus for me is that i never have any issues with getting the phone in and out of my pocket.

Ballistic
Awesome build quality
Kickstand snaps off but can be put back on(so far)
Outer layer is removable for varying degrees of protection
Beautiful
Tougher and pricier feeling materials
Otterbox
Feels very flimsy overall
Kickstand breaks off
Ugly
Materials don't feel as good as they do with the Otterbox for iPhone
I think I remember on their facebook page...Otterbox admitted that they used a completely different factory for the Evo...but that doesn't explain the poor design...just explains the huge downgrade in feel...possibly different(cheaper)plastics.
I ordered the ballistic case yesterday and I recommend u do the same

I feel your pain....i am in the same delima. I think either the otter or ballistic. I have a friend who has the otterbox defender, i like it. The outer shell seems a little cheesy when you take it on and off, but actually feels ok once you get it on and get the front part of the silicone shell into the front groves of the hard case. Wish I had a friend with ballistic. The only issue I see right now with the ballistic is the size and the holster, I can't find pics of it in the holster without the outer silicone shell on. I can't see who now but someone (i gave thanks) did reply and say the ballistic would work in the holster without silicone shell.
The trident hasn't got my interest yet, I continue to read......................
Yes it does fit in the holster without the outer silicone layer (I have one) The Ballistic Case is AMAZING!

Seido Surface vs Otterbox Commuter

So, I've been using Innocases for awhile. On my iPhone 3g and Samsung Vibrant.
I've constantly been tempted to purchase an Otterbox for the protection purposes and some of them seem to have nice styling as well, but I love the texture and feel of the Seido cases.
I was just wanting to get some opinions on both cases. I know it always comes down to personal preference, but wanted to hear the thoughts of others before dropping $25 on one or the other.
I love my Commuter. I like it even more than the Commuters on my iPad & Captivate. The 'X' design on the back sets it off.
I prefer the Commuter case as well. It really is the best case for money, style, and protection.
What is the case texture like? I only ask because I always keep my phone in my pocket and don't care for rubber cases that cling too much.
Sent from my Vibrant using my fingers.
Seido Surface without a doubt. Offers amazing protection, doesn't add bulk, stays tight, and even has a nice feel and look to it.
I love my commuter case I just got today. It tends to catch a little lint but I can already see that getting less and less. very happy with my purchase.

the Commuter case will NEVER cling to your pocket insides because the back has that hardshell along with some on the side too so the silicone won't ever cause contact problems with pockets, satchels, pouches, etc.
I certainly appreciate all of the input. Definitely a Commuter case supporting group. I'll have to see if I can find one somewhere to check it out since I know how much I like the Seidio already.

Evo rugged case

What's the best rugged case for my evo out there as far as all year round construction work.
I got the seidio extended rugged case. It is a beast. So solid
I wasn't the biggest fan of the outbox defender.
I think there are other cases too, like Cyclops and trident. I also remember something about kraken.
I just bought a couple cases to figure out which one was best for me.
~ I'm a fungi
Otterbox case. I think it's ugly and bulky but it protects the phone (so I've been told).
I work construction/warehouse now, and I have the otterbox. It has been ripped off my belt, so I called, told them needed new belt case, they replaced it with three, so big plus for them. Also have dropped the phone about 16ft on to concrete floor with otterbox, no problem, picked it up hit power button and screen came on (was in sleep) so I hooray for them standing behind their product. Downside is it is big, but fits in tool pouch nicely on my top pocket, and it protects the camera with small plastic screen.
Otterbox, it's huge, but so is the phone. You could probably bring that thing into armed combat. It's like a mini-tank in my pocket
Otterbox has great customer service. It is seriously amazing. That's one more reason to love them
~ I'm a fungi
Yup had otterbox since day one. I know someone that bought a cheap silicone cover; she dropped her evo and screen is now shattered. Thumbs up for otterbox.
i like the otterbox
Trident Kraken
I have the Trident Kraken. Rugged (yes, it's bulky), built-in screen protector, great fitment (2 layers= hard shell inner & silicone outer), makes use of the phone's built-in kickstand (rather than building one into the case itself), ports are covered, appropriate & mostly non-interfering cut-outs (camera, flash, speaker, mic...I've noticed a slight difference in speaker phone usage), cost is in line with other cases of this type.
IMO, an excellent case.
Otterbox defender by far. I've had otterboxes for the past few phones with no complaints. I've never had a problem with them warranting them out for defects either.
I have the Seidio rugged, and it's a great case. 3 layers (slim case, silicone cover and then plastic shell) and the silicone layer has covers for the ports and a cover for the camera lense. (I use my camera a lot so I cut the camera lense cover off) and the holster has a lock to hold it in place well.
I switched from construction to tech work, so now it sits in a drawer, but it was great when I needed it.

Otterbox
Have to agree with the rest Otterbox is the best and they stand behind them with no problems you call them tell them whats wrong and they send you a new one.
I have a 2nd gen ballistic HC for my evo, and i've dropped that thing more times than i care to remember, concrete, tile, dirt, snow, pretty much everywhere except solid ice,and it has held up very well. It has the hard plastic with soft bumpers, as well as the add-on silicone layer that the seidio rugged, which i also own. The size of the thing is enormous though, and i have smacked my friend in the head once while tossing him the phone from a few feet away, he said it hit him pretty hard

I have the ballistic as well. I dropped it from 23ft off a ladder, picked it up and continued my text message I've dropped this poor thing so many times and have purposely thrown in across the room just to show people the case and she's held up without me ever needing a replacement. Built in screen protector that I had to cut out cuz it was so beat up but it also came with a nicely cut single sheet protector as well. The rubber outer casing is nice too if you can handle the extra bulk and/or need the extra traction for your hands.
Everyone is always talking about the otterbox, guess it wins the popularity vote.
However, I've seen quite a few people complain or have issues with them, like the clip failing them or whatnot.
Personally I would the Ballistic HC case. I bought one for 20 USD on clearance @ mobile city. I think it's out of stock but if you do a google shop search, some vendors will have some. The MSRP is 40 USD I believe, but it's well worth it.
The only problem I have with it is the screen cover gets scratched up a bit (not the Evo screen, just the cover screen), try buying one of those plastic stick ons and it'll be fine. The other 2 minor issues are that it can get a bit dirty so try cleaning about once a week; the other issue is that the cover can be a pain to take off, I pull mine from the bottom opening onto the sides until it's off. Other than that, it's excellent and offers maximum protection like no other.
EDIT: I just saw posters above me recommended Ballistic.
On a side note though, I'd like to add that the case in black gives it this awesome military look. If you theme your phone just right with cool widgets, etc, it looks even more amazing. You just can't go wrong with this case. +the clip never lets go of the phone while at work.
I used the Otterbox Defender series case for over a year, great case. I wanted an extended battery but never pulled the trigger because you couldn't use in a rugged case. For the last six months I've been using the Trident Electra series that comes with an extended 2800ma battery. The case is very rugged and protects the phone. It does have a screen protector built in but you can remove with a hairdryer. The extended battery adds bulk but is still thinner than the otterbox. The battery life is awesome.

It does have a screen protector built in but you can remove with a hairdryer. The extended battery adds bulk but is still thinner than the otterbox. The battery life is awesome.

The Ballistic HC or Kraken seemed to work the best for the Evo.. Kraken case also has a holster too.

[Review] Trident Kraken AMS on GSM Nexus

First of all, i would like to thank the people over at Trident (www.tridentcase.com) for sending this case out to me.
Packaging - The box is pretty simple. Shows the product and the different colors it comes in. Black, Red, Pink, Green, and Blue. i will be showing off the black model. Inside the box comes a screen protector kit, which includes the screen protector, microfiber cloth and a applicator/squeegee card. The case retails for $49.95.
Case - The Kraken AMS case is a heady duty 3-Layer case which features a shock absorbing silicone, a polycarbonate plastic shell, rubber dust covers over the microphone and speaker, rubber covers over ports (charger and headset), and holster. The silicone part, or Perseus can be used as a stand alone case on days that you don’t need maximum protection, but will still give u good drop and scratch protection. The two polycarbonate shells cover the silicone to make the case durable. The case has a nice lip around the screen for a lay on table design. One accessory that the case comes with is a really durable metal kickstand. They also have other Kraken accessories which make the case more usable in everyday life. such as an AMS Bike Clip, AMS Tripod Mount, AMS Headphone Organizer, AMS Seatbelt Clip, and AMS Windshield Mount.
Thoughts - My thought on the case are it is made of very high grade materials. everything fits. cutouts are precise. I’ve only had the case for a few hours and i love it. the silicone is way much better than the otterbox defender. it feels of quality and doesn't attract lint. the volume and power buttons feel better than the naked buttons to me. the kickstand is SOLID and does its job great. the holster is just as heavy duty as the case and rotates so you can wear it comfortably. i will update the in a few days to give more opinions...
Pics - I will have pics of the phone with the case tomorrow, as my nexus is my only camera at the moment.

Conclusion - I think the case is well worth the $50 you are paying. you are getting a heavy duty case that can be used as a lightweight case also that provides an ample amount of protection. I would definitely recommend this case to anyone who is looking for an overall great case that will add bulk to your device.
if u feel i left something out or want to ask a question. go ahead. thanks.

Can't wait to see some pictures of the phone inside the case.
Some questions...
First, how do the two plastic pieces (the front and back) fit together?
On my otterbox defender, they just snap together with some tiny little clips and after about two drops 3 out of 4 clips are already broken so the only thing holding them together is the silicone cover that goes on the outside. I'm hoping the kraken is a lot more rugged in that aspect... The otterbox is great at protecting the phone but the case itself is already trashed after a few drops which isn't cool.
Second, how bulky is the kraken? It looks bulkier than the otterbox defender, especially on the sides since it looks like it has a ridge sticking out from either side of the screen. Does it feel good in the hand? My defender definitely makes the phone about 30% thicker which makes it less comfortable to hold but I've gotten used to it. Don't know how I'd feel about the ridges on the Kraken however.
Anyway thanks for the review.

hmmmm. might just scratch, but not blend.
the two plastic pieces fit together nice and tight. the top and bottom are snap together. but the sides are actually placed in slots, it can be slight difficult to remove if u don't have nails. but i see that as a good thing. the Kraken would take some time to show wear and tear.
it may b just a tad bit bulkier, but the grip is a for sure thing. the poly carbonate is not glossy but isn't matte. it's sort of in between but doesn't show finger prints. the sides have ridges for better grip as well. i actually thought the defender felt great in hand, maybe because i have small hands tho.
few more pics.

the case fits the GSM extended battery with no problems at all.
Does this case make it hard to press the volume and power buttons? And it seems to cover up the notification light at the bottom doesn't it?
the buttons are the best thing on the case IMO. and the notification light isnt covered.

HI, just wondering if you wound up getting the 2000mah battery afterall and if so, how well it fits.
if it fits 100 percent with extended battery im a get one to
i recently bought one it appears the notification light is 40% block.. i'm using the standard battery gsm version could that be the reason i wonder
I have the same case with the extended battery (Sprint) and everything fits perfectly. The notification light is about 50% blocked but I dont use it anyways so it did not bother me much. The notification bar is easy to pull down with no interference with the top of the case like with the otterbox. The case can take a beating I have drop tested survived a 12ft drop. Even though it adds bulk because it is hard polycarbonate on the outside it makes it really easy to get in and out of pockets even with tighter fitting jeans.
Also if you have a Costco or Sams Club near by you can pick up the case for $30 instead of $50.
Seidio convert is better.. options for all gnex models and batteries

I would recommend it if you are looking for a case that offers similar or even more protection than the Otterbox Defender. The case adds quite a bit of bulk to your phone though so that may turn off some people.
Throughout the work week, usually switch between the Kraken, Otterbox Commuter, and the SGP leather pouch. The Kraken will be used only if I have to go out to do field work.
The Commuter is only used if I feel like I don't want to use the SGP pouch. Otherwise I end up using the SGP pouch most of the time on the slower days of work where I'm just stuck in the office.
I'm leaning toward the Kraken because I've read a couple of story about how the Otterbox defender was scratching phones.
I have a commuter right now but I need something more rugged for work and also to protect my GNex from my crazy kids

If that's the case, the Kraken would be a good purchase for you. My Kraken case has held up well when I drop my phone when I'm out doing field work. Very durable and well worth it!
