[GUIDE] The easiest way to install CWM in ICS (no unbricking needed) - LG Nitro HD

NOW YOU CAN INSTALL CWM DIRECTLY FROM ICS
INSTALL AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER WITHOUT UNBRICKING
A few months ago I found this thread on XDA :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42657066
This thread provided a way to install CWM from Jellybean V30C for the SU640 without unbricking the phone first. Now not exactly the same, the phones are close enough that it peaked my interest. Digging into it I discovered that the partition mmcblk0p7 contains the bootloader, and it was as simple as pushing the unlocked bootloader from Gingerbread to the correct partition, therefore bypassing the entire need to unbrick the phone first and thus allowing the install of CWM.
So I got brave enough and installed the P936 v10i Gingerbread ROM and used the command in ADB shell to extract the bootloader:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/bootloader.img. After this I restored my phone completely to stock. Rooted using the root at the above link, then ran my batch file and I had CWM no Security Error!!
The steps are simple:
Start with stock ICS (any version, carrier or phone version p93x). v20c, v20d, v20e, or v20f.
1. ROOT PHONE with the root from the above link or any method that works for you.
2. Run my batch file.
3. Install a custom ROM.
Before anyone asks me I used v 6.0.1.5 TOUCH for CWM. There are actually several reasons why. For me v 6.0.4.5 was incompatible with any ROM with kernel version 3.4. Also if I would initiate a backup from the Rom Manager app, CWM couldn't locate the backup directory.
ENJOY
:victory:
First this only is recommended for LG's Nitro HD models P930, P935 & P936. I do not recommend installing on the SU640 or LU6200.

Thnks!
Worked like a charm! (the second time lol)
I've been waiting for an easy workaround like this, you're great!

Awesome work.
Where did you get CWM 6.0.1.4? Is it the recovery.img located in the zip in the OP? I have two P930s and both have 6.0.4.5 installed. On one, I can get into recovery without a problem, the other one can't.
Thanks

May have something to do where it is stored on your C drive. Try copying the folder to the root directory on your C drive and running the batch file with administrator permissions.

I never managed to get into recovery with the phone off. If I long press volume down with power button I get the message if I want to permanently erase everything (factory reset) and if I long press volume up with power I get into download mode.
(using lg nitro hd, cm 10.2.1, unbricked and rooted using hereric's guide, and I have latest cwm installed)

That is exactly the message that you want. Press power button twice and you will be in CWM. It says factory reset because that is what will happen if you didn't have a custom recovery installed, no worries though.

Yes you can flash directly, since it only flashes the boot loader and recovery it will not touch your ROM.

[Q] How to boot to recovery?

Hey peeps - another annoying n00b question (sorry)
I have the Doom v3 kernel and stock 2.3.3
Just want to know how I can boot into recovery so I can install a ROM zip?
I have tried every combination of buttons on startup including Power then tapping and holding Back and I cant get into recovery mode.
Please help i really want to try the GingerStation rom
Turn device off. When off press the power button once, then start tapping any hardware button untill device boots into recovery. You can also try doomlords xCharge app from the market.
Sorry i havent been very active in the forums recently. I will be updating rom soon with some cool features and a new name

AFAIK you have to boot into recovery the standard way. Like the person above described. Once you do that CWM creates a directory in /cache called "recovery" then xCharge works fine

No, it's completely stock, I've read I have to flash a file in recovery, I've got it, but I don't know how to reboot in recovery with button combination.
To get cwm, root using doomlords easy toolkit, search development
Then install this app and click install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler
After you have installed that, boot on your phone, and when you see the sony ericsson screen, repeatedly tap volume down until you get into cwm
WOW! It's very easy this way, thanks a lot
Another quick question, now bootloader is unlocked?
Can I flash any custom roms like any other device? (flash in recovery mode)
Thanks again.
That way i showed is to install CWM with a LOCKED bootloader.
This will allow you to flash STOCK based roms, no others
This is not unlocking bootloader, just getting CWM
If you want to unlock your bootloader, you have to go to the sony website or pay to unlock it
Oh, so I can't flash CM roms, but I can with stock based, right?
I knew about Sony website, but I though there was other ways to have the bootloader unlocked.
Well, thank you a lot, now I have to find a good stock based rom.

You can only install CWM when coming from a Gingerbread official ROM. Meaning you have to follow unbricking instructions to downgrade to an official Gingerbread ROM, then flash CWM using that. Currently there is no CWM-flashable version of Bell's ICS though, but one will probably pop up soon.
hi and help please
5. Connect phone to PC and start root_P880.bat for this do i use mass storage or the LG software?
also when i run the root_P880.bat i get only fail and cannot open and acess denied in the command prompt
the cell reboots twice and then the command prompt window closes
i need help
thank you
edit : it worked
i'll keep y original post just to show that when you get this issue
just try agin and again and again (from run the app and reboot part)
cheers to you for finding and posting this method
Once you do this method is it possible to unroot without going through the unbricking guide and reflashing the ROM?
Edit: NVM it looks like you can do it with the SU app, it says so on the second last page of original thread.

This update had been released for several days, maybe the last version to be released.

Really very easy, just download the file from post 1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
There are two batch files: before.bat & after.bat. This method works to allow you to keep root moving from 1 rom to another. Just follow these steps:
1. Start with a rooted OS. Doesn't matter which.
2. Select UNKNOWN SOURCES from Security and debug from developer.
3. Plug the phone into the computer and select software mode. Run BEFORE.BAT.
4. Run app to install new OS of choice. (ie KDZ installer)
5. Wait for install to complete and when phone boot loops run AFTER.BAT.
6. Do a battery pull.
7. Hold down volume down while hitting power, keep held down till white text appears then release and press power button twice.
8. Welcome to your new and rooted OS.

LG Optimus G Root/unlock isues

Hey fellow LG Optimus G users. Late last month I recently purchased the LGOG on Sprint and came here to seek a root guided. I didn't know that LG locks the bootloader on their devices. I came here, found root guides for 4.0.1 ZV9, 4.1.2 ZVB, AIO, Universal root and to be honest, the rooting portion was fairly simple, but its's unlocking/flashing where I have an issue.
I'm on my third phone. The first phone(unaware of it needing an unlock) I rooted and unlocked using the Universal method and tried to flash a ROM and bricked my phone. THe second time I used AIO root/unlock and my phone still messed up. Here I am once again and I really want to have my phone rooted and unlocked correctly so I can flash Paranoid Android(I like the hybrid ability it offers) but I am too skeptical about it now as I don't want to be out of a phone again. As far as Rooting goes, I feel I can just as easily use the universal method and gain root, but with unlocking, what do I have to do if the AIO way isn't correct for 4.1.2 ZVB? I'm not the best at using ADB and commands lines of the sort but if there is an alternative please help me out. Do I need a different tool? Is it availible on Google Play or is it all on PC?
Look over the guides again.

Just unlocked my phone(went and bought the app to support shelnutt). Turned off the phone and then boot back up a clean boot, no error messages. I actually face palmed at how simple this turned out to be. Thanks guys :good:, glad to be apart of a helpful community. I'll play around in TWRP for a while to check its feats.
Edit: Now that my phone is rooted AND unlocked, am I able to remove the bloat apps without issue? I believe this caused my phone to have issues the first go round.
Hack and flash away til your hearts content.
Make sure you backup EFS, and make a TWRP backup and save them to your computer in case your SD gets wiped.

Phone not booting up. PL HELP !
Hello guys !
I have done something terrible and phone is not booting up part recovery now.
I had rooted the phone with one-click universal method without any hasstles and then try to reboot into bootloader by pressing VolDown+Power button.
Eventually ended up rebooting in original android recovery. I tried rebooting with option in that but it was not responding.
While trying it out, I mistakenly wiped cache partition.
Now NO MATTER WHAT COMBINATION I TRY, phone doesn't boot up past the recovery.
Please help me sort out this mess. I need to sell the phone.
I wipe my cache partition all the time. I am rooted but still locked (I don't think that will last much longer). Anyways, in the android recovery with jelly bean, I found that you no longer use the power button for selecting or confirming. It's now done using the menu button below your screen (on the right) . At least that's how it works for my phone.

When I power on the phone I get the LG logo and from there it goes straight to the "fastboot mode" screen, but I can't access the menus. I can also get the backlight screen, but when I connect it to the PC it doesn't recognize the device. I can also access "download mode" on the phone. Please forgive me if I'm not giving a lot of detail. This is my first root ever.
So you can get into fastboot? Did you unlock also? If so, press volume down twice then power. That should get you into recovery.

Hopefully you will eventually time it right and see the blessed download screen...from there get teenybin's bin file for whatever version you have and use that...its a godsend

[Q] Is it possible to get root on primoc without flashing a kernel?

I know it's required to unlock the bootloader in order to gain root on primoc, but the directions call for flashing a kernel, and I'd like to keep my phone as close to stock as humanly possible. Is there a way to keep the stock kernel and get root, or is it the act of flashing the kernel that gets you root? The reason I ask is that I'd like to be able to use root apps, but I don't want to flash kernels/ROMs.
Sorry if this is a n00b question.

For any poor unsuspecting soul who finds this thread through the almighty Google... The procedure in the next post works. Apparently, if you get the latest and greatest TWRP recovery it will root for you, but the version of TWRP I found did not do that.

Follow the instructions and flash the recovery file and not a kernel. You should now have TWRP recovery installed. Download Superuser.zip from the official website and place it in your sd card. Reboot and go into Bootloader and then into Recovery. From there press the first button and go to where you left the Superuser.zip. Select it and let it finish. Now reboot and you should be rooted.

If you install twrp as the recovery it will promot you and root the Rom. With the stick kernel.

That wasn't my experience. I had to flash the superuser.zip from recovery to get the su binary and then install the superuser app to get root to work. The general approach does work though!

I just used the superboot for primoc that I found on one of the stickied threads in general. one click and it roots it. I've used it on all three of the virgin updates.

Superboot does work, but it installs a kernel as part of the directions, which is what I did not want to do.
