T-Mobile Paying ETF's - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Just letting you guys know that we just got notice at T-Mobile that our sales goals for this month are increasing 15%.
As many of you may or may there are rumors that T-Mobile will be paying off early termination fees for people wishing to switch to T-Mobile.
With that being said, I can basically confirm these rumors. If you have any questions let me know!

UPDATE: Confirmed T-Mobile will be paying off ETF's for all major carriers (Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T) commercials will start running in the next few days!
T-Mobile also made changes allowing any phone to be used to pay off those ETF's even if we were not accepting them before, just at a lower trade in value.

I suppose that is only for new customers? I should have waited a few months

The information out right now is pointing to it have to do with people that are on family plans and open a family plan with T-Mobile. Trade in their phone and do a new phone on EIP. Check out www.tmonews.com the info on there is pretty close to always being right.

That's where I first got the info. I was just providing an update based on what T-Mobile retail management is telling their employees.

Update to this as well. T-Mobile will pay for cancelation fees for up to 5 lines (up to $350 per line). This is for Small Business, single lines, and family lines.

Can someone explain the part about buying a device from t-mobile? So does the person switching have to pay full price for the new device from t-mobile or can they also do the 24 month no interest plan?

You can do the 24 month no interest plan, sure. Also, they are saying it all applies to existing customers as well, so you can get out of your t-mobile contract right now if you want as well.
This is the t-mobile forum, but even if you don't like T-Mobile for whatever reason, you've gotta love what they are doing to the wireless industry.

I've been with Sprint for 16 years and am considering switching due to this and network performance issues. Can anyone confirm the rabbels from other posts that loading a custom recovery ROM tripping the KNOX flag will cause T-Mobile not to honor hardware issues with the phone (i.e. button failure/charge port/sdcard slot failures).
I used to work for Sprint so I know I can take anything back to a few stores for repair if it's in fact a legit hardware issue regardless of my ROM. I'm not willing to throw away that safety net for some stupid non-related software flag in the bootloader.
Thanks!

I never loaded Knox and have sideloaded an app or two...no issues. My advice is don't download Knox.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the KNOX system is already part of the firmware and bootloader and can be tripped by loading unofficial recoveries and perhaps rooting/roms. It is shown at the ODIN download screen.
I just want to verify if T-Mobile will support the hardware warranty if service is needed if I switch over.
Thanks

Knox is there but has to be installed, at least that's how it is on my phone.

The Knox application is not install on the phone, you need to install that one yourself. The Knox counter is already on the phone, and can be tripped if you root your phone with another method other than Root de la Vega, Kingo root. After you root with Root de la Vega or Kingo root, your Knox flag should be 0x0, but if you flash custom recovery or custom Kernel then your Knox counter change to 0x1 and your Knox warranty is voided, there are some discrepancies about the warranty some people already exchange their phones with Knox tripped and have no problems, but those claims are insurance claims. Samsung in the other hand according to some posts around this area and international area is trying to void any warranty if the Knox flag is tripped, but those are only rumors nothing has been confirm as far as I know.

I'm gonna switch to T-Mobile for this reason. I do have one question. Regardless if Knox counter is tripped can I still unlock bootloader with the 4.3 update? Sorry probably the wrong thread for this question.

Yea, this is my contingency. I would like to know as well if the Note 3 bootloader is unlockable at current. If it is, hell, I'll switch in the next day or two. Tired of $300 vzw bills.

Verizon has much better coverage in my area of Texas but I'm still happy because of the cost savings. There are areas in town and even in my own home where I can't reliably use my T-Mobile phone but since it works in the areas I most often need it I keep it.

You can probably buy it off someone who's trying to make a quick profit. $500 is a reasonable offer for a $100 on-contract phone.

Every T-Mobile ROM is compatible with our phone. Rooting, there is a thread on development for that, and unlocking you need to pay for that service. There is no way to do it through software like the original Galaxy S Vibrant.

Not true! You can simply call customer service and request an unlock code. Sometimes customer service reps don't know the policies, so you may need to ask to talk to a manager or to tech support.
Tell them that you are planning to leave the country soon and want to unlock your phone so that you can use a foreign prepaid SIM, or something to that effect. Keep in mind that you have to have been a customer for 45+ days, or be a prepaid customer for 60+ days with a balance on your account of at least $10.

What is the procedure in buying a network locked phone?

Hey, I am from India. Desperately waiting for galaxy s4.
Its going to be about 950$ here.
I was thinking of buying a network locked phone from the us and have it sent here to India and then unlocking it.
I just wanted to know if this is possible, what are the challenges?
Breaking the network contract? Lock protection on the network on s4, etc
How exactly is it going to be done

Thats if he doesnt buy the headset under a two year contract meaning he would get the S4 at a discounted price. ATT will only issue unlock codes after the contract term has terminated and I know some carriers blacklist ESN's ( But that's only CDMA right?) and possibly IME's. If that's the case, the device will be useless wherever.

ESN only applies to CDMA devices. Unless the device is stolen there is no reason for AT&T to blacklist the IMEI, which wouldnt matter anyway if there was a way to root and unlock it. IMEI blacklist doesnt have any jurisdiction in India...

OK, most of what I said was on par, good to have a clarification though.
In this situation it doesnt impact him, but it was my understanding that carriers can indeed blacklist IMEI's if they break contract to prevent acquisition of devices at a lower cost to be carried over to other carriers with cheaper plans.
Another note, aren't IMEI's used globally? In which case a blacklisted IMEI in the US would still be blacklisted in any other country with GSM carriers?
Found this article: http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...ported-cellphones-with-invalid-imei-20090622/

There is no central database of blacklisted IMEI's.......yet
Though not covered explicitly in the documentation, there appears to be a glaring loophole which could potentially nix the ‘terrorist’ argument; as there appears to be no central list of ‘valid’ IMEIs maintained that networks can authenticate against. There may be nothing to stop a potential villain reprogramming a device with a valid-looking IMEI. According to the DoT’s edict, calls or texts from a device will still be accepted as long as there is some value there. What’s to stop a criminal reprogramming his IMEI with all 1s instead of all zeros?

Yes it has to be unlocked. Once you have the device paid off you will have to wait 40 days for an unlock. You can't just go buy the phone and go straight to AT&T with it.

Yeah unfortunately preventing your plan is why they have these 40 day windows in place. I'm sure you can understand - they aren't pure retail and there are operational expenses involved with getting that phone to you that the N3 margins alone can't sustain.

It doesn't have Tmobile warranty coverage and some ppl say it doesn't have samsung warranty either. So you might consider getting their warranty package if you get one of their phones. Might be cheaper in the end since you won't pay tax and you have to pay for an unlock service. Never used them myself but others have posted on their good standing.

I highly recommend you don't try and root the phone, it could significantly alter your phone in a negative ways (some irreversible) even if you unroot your phone. Note 3 is a phone that highly relies on its original Samsung software. I have it, so I know. And especially when you're downloading unknown software onto your computer to root or alter your phone, you're putting your computer at risk of being compromised with malware and viruses. And a lot of these people who root phones for a fee often won't tell you the dangers your phone will potentially face after its rooted. DON'T WASTE $800.00 ON A GUESS.

Oy! For the love of God, stay away from Negri. I'm sure the thread is still here somewhere. Just search.
I got my from Swappa (After I cancelled my Negri order). Got a decent deal, saved about $100 over the cost of getting it from T-Mobile. Take your time to find a reputable seller. Look for sellers that aren't just buying and selling used phones (i.e. look for an original owner).

Just wondering for those who have a tmobile note 3 on atnt, what are the advantages of this? Just curious since I am currently choosing between tmobile and atnt.

They want the unlocked bootloader of the T-Mobile Note 3 (GSM) for easy rooting and ROM'ing, but want to use it on ATTs more expensive (GSM) network. Has the ATT Note3's bootloader been hacked yet? I don't even know.

Bought mine last month on Swappa for $690 w/o any shipping or taxes. Arrived a day later via USPS priority mail from NJ (to NY). No insurance; a 1-year samsung warranty is good enough for me.
GET TO THE SWAPPA! </SchartzeneggerVoice>

Number 1 advantage is signal and real lte and more coverage I pretty much get 4G almost everywhere , T-mobile has too many dead spots. Even betting I'm using a straight att sim and getting 18- 20+ mbps download

Got it from T-M store.
BTW NUMBER 1 advantage of T-M here is normal coverage comparing to ATT garbage (even regular signal coverage is extremely weak)! Even with the microcell booster.
