[Q] SD card. How fast is a waste? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How fast is the OG Epic's SD card interface?
I am planning to give Link2SD a try. I will buy another SDXC card for this purpose. I do not want the SD card to be the speed bottleneck. But there is no point spending the extra $$$ on wasted SD card speed. How fast is the actual SD card interface on this phone?
Probably this has been discussed before, but I do not see it in the specs.
Thanks in advance.

Using fast SD cards?

I see these 66x superfast SD memory cards advertised. Will using one speed up my blue angel?
Can programs use this SD card for operating memory or can they only use the intenal memory?
Does having <5mb avaialable slow down your device?
Fast Sd Cards
Fast Sd cards are only useful for SLR Pro cameras. The rest of the devices are using normal card reader slots. i.e. even if you were to use a fast SD card in the sd card slot, you will only get the normal speed.
by rest of the devices, i mean, all pocket pcs, ppc phones, phones and such devices...... :x
moali77 is correct. it won't make much of a difference in your pda. however, if you use a card reader, or happen to have a digicam that can utilize the speed, you will be better off.
example: i played atlantis redux recently 100mb+ required to be put on your sd card. instead of copying it through activesync, i put it in my usb2.0 card reader, copied it over, in far less time than it would've taken if i did it the other way.
but if you don't plan for much of that, then don't bother paying the premium for a fast card =)
Well I bought a Kingston Elite Pro Secure Digital 1GB, think It's 7.7/8.2MB Write/read
It made my TomTom go way faster planning routes and generally give me better performance from other apps.
I dont know the Top speed for the BA SD Slot, but you should look at the speeds of the card you are planning to buy

Have others experienced similar variations with different SDs?
I recently responded to Wamatt's other posting about SD cards in the BA accessories forum. In it, I've described my experiences with the SD card listed in my sig and BA speed tests I've done with it.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26903 for additional information.

Micro SD vs. "High Speed" Micro SD

I have a QTEK 8500. Would I see enough difference in speed/performance to justify the price difference in a standard 40x speed transflash memory card vs. a 66x high speed card? What (if any) difference would I be able to notice in performance? What memory manufacturers would you reccommend? Thanks! :?:
not sure about micro sd but with normal sd the interface on pda's cant even keep up with the cards so unless there is a world of difference between sd and micro sd then unless you really like to copy stuff to your card from your micro sd card reader no difference

THANKS! That's what I thought.

SD card speed

I have 3 micro SD cards, the 4GB that came with the Desire, an 8GB which came with my Touch HD and a 6GB which I bought for my old Vario III. Will the speed of these cards make much difference to the running of the Desire, especially with apps on the SD card. Also is IO performance more important that transfer rates?
Would like to put a higher capacity card in the phone but not if it'll slow things down.
Done some quick testing of the various cards and the 4GB card that comes with the Desire is a lot slower than the other two cards. Seems the 8GB is actually the fastest at transfer speeds and has the highest IOps so I'll swap it over for that one.
Ok, well I transferred all the stuff to the other SD card and now my phone doesn't recognise any of the installed apps. Is it not as easy as transferring the files between the 2 cards?
Check The SD Class WQritten On THe Card
My 4 GB is lot faster then another 8 GB i am using

Anyone using the Transcend 32GB Class 4 MicroSD card?

I bought this card from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-mic...YX8U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1322469285&sr=8-5
Although I've noticed my write speeds when transferring 700mb-4gb type files only to be 2.32MB/sec. Reviews on amazon show that others are getting 4MB/sec...
no... but i saw this browsing the web... http://www.adorama.com/IDSMICSD32G.html?utm_source=ET&utm_medium=TransactionalEmail&utm_campaign=2point0Product1 its cheaper...and the site has great reviews...
I have the same card and my speed is around 4.2MB s. Have you try testing the speed of your card on a PC?
You can also try to format the card in the PC. I've seen it helped with my other micro sd card for the Motorola Photon.

how should i format it, in FAT32? i formatted it with the phone after i got the card.
i also notice that if i transfer files while in clockwork mod recovery, it'll transfer at 3.5-4MB/sec, but back to only 2.35MB/sec when booted up.
Yeah just format it to fat32. You can also try "sd formatter" program for windows.
Have you tried the Android app "sd card tester" to test the card speed? Do that test first to see if the problem is indeed with the micro sd card.
From my experiences with micro SDHC in the Nook Color, there is no substitute for SanDisk cards. Their class 4 card is faster than everyone else's class 10s.

Just to clarify this fact, as it depends what you use the SD card for.
If you are running an Operating System from the SD card Sandisk have been found to have very fast random read/write speeds, but if you're recording video etc a Class 10 is better. The reason is an OS needs to write and read data from all over the card but recording video writes sequentially.
If you're not running the OS from the card, a higher class of any quality brand card will serve you better. If you are running the OS from the card, like many of us are with our Nook Colors (and lovin it), get a Sandisk Class 4.

Choose micro sd card

I look for the more reliable micro sd card with a good price
https://www.amazon.es/gp/aw/d/B06XFS5657/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
https://www.amazon.es/gp/aw/d/B073J...6_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=sandisk+micro+sd
The best of these in your opinion?
Samsung 256 gb or sandisck 200 gb es wath is more reliable and best choice?
Thanks
I honestly think that you will be happy with either. I have cards from Samsung, Lexar (not sure they are in the SD card business any more) and SanDisk and they are all very reliable. I did have a SanDisk card break once, but I'm pretty sure that was the phone as it ate a couple of cards before I got rid of it. Speed wise you will probably find that the Micro SD cards will be very similar. For some reason full size SD cards perform much better and there is a greater difference in performance, but Micro SD less so.
