Seidio ACTIVE Case Review

I received an ACTIVE case from Seidio recently and it was for the Motorola Atrix 4G. Well being a case from Seidio, it had to be something good packed in it.
The package was nicely fitted into an average sized package and it contained an instruction pamphlet and the case itself. No pictures here sorry =(. The case is consists of a 2 piece design where the 1st piece is a silicon based glove and a harder backbone would be attached on to the back to strengthen the case.

Size : The Seidio ACTIVE case had the slimmest appearance among all the other cases and it was the lightest among them too. The Otterbox Impact was the bulkiest followed by the Otterbox Commuter Case.

Closer view on the top section of the ACTIVE case. There is even a small curve at front camera. Nice one there Seidio!
Front View: The Seidio ACTIVE case covers the sides of the Atrix and has a groove to enable users to place the phone face down and would prevent the screen from getting scratched. However, it is noted that there is no protection on the top section of the phone unlike the Otterbox Commuter. I personally preferred the one without because on the Otterbox Commuter, there was a noticeable amount of dust getting stuck at the earpiece and the front camera. Getting them cleaned was a hassle compared to the ACTIVE case which is much easier to clean.
Back view: Back side of the case. It resembles a fish bone type of design and there are hand grips on the sides which gives a nice secure hold when it is held. The finishing on the back section was also a joy to touch as it was slightly rubberised but still strong enough to withstand impacts.
The earphone jack area and finger print scanner had their own openings. As expected, the case is quite a dust magnet but it is negligible as I found it quite easy to wipe it off. I've yet to find a case which does not attract dust at the moment.
The jacks were left exposed as well. Probably this is to reduce the weight of the case and ease accessibility to the ports. Makes plugging the device in and out from the cable easy =). The rubber grip on the back adds extra functionality by preventing the phone from sliding off the table as well.
Here's another shot where the finishing of this case could be much improved. Guessed it is from the molding process.
Final thoughts: The case from Seidio did not fail to impress me. Protection was great as it felt really solid and the fittings were perfect. The looks were pleasant to the eyes and not too large unlike some cases where you would look like carrying a little rock with you. The only thing that I hoped could be improved was the finishing of the product and it could be molded better. Product well worth the $ 29.95 price tag. Blows all the TPU cases or cheap branded silicon cases out of the water.

I take it that it has a silicone feel to it? I hate the texture of the Ottorbox plastic bits, reminds me of nails on a chalkboard.

Yup, very nice review. Case looks nice but I already see hairs sticking to the silicone. Looks nicer than Otterbox though.

Seidio and the Car Dock
Does the Seidio case have to be removed for the phone to be placed into the car dock? I currently have the Body Glove case from AT&T but am looking for something a little different.

The harder shell of the case feels like the back of a SE xperia x10. hard but slightly rubbery feel while the other parts feels like the otterbox silicon.

but in the pic the active and the commuter look the same size, yet you said the active is the smallest and the commuter is the second biggest?

somehow it looked slimmer when it was placed on the atrix :S

These kinds of cases look too "industrial" for my taste. They seem to serve a purpose if you are putting your phone down in hostile environments but my phone is either in my holster or on my desk next to me.

Does anyone know if this case works with the laptop dock?

I just received this case and I love it. It fits my hands nice and has a great feel to it.

The only two cases I have found that fit in the car dock are
1 - Motorola Ruggedized Battery Door, fits perfect in all docks with the little shim removed.
2 - The butt ugly Body Glove that AT&T sells for way too much money, I bought one too.
I have also tried the Seidio Active, a very nice case with great protection, and the Seidio Surface, preserves some of the slimness of the phone while giving some protection.

I've had this case for a few weeks now. Has anyone who owns one noticed any peeling on the silicone part? At the top of mine is has started to peel a bit. Is this normal?

Here's what it looks like. I take good care of the phone too and have never dropped it. This is just from basic use.

Mine sees daily use as a gaming pad for a 3 year old and I've seen no problems.

Review of Seidio ACTIVE case w/holster with lots of pics!!!

This is the only remaining Seidio case from Note 2 collection I haven't reviewed yet, so I figured - it's time! Someone might ask, with SURFACE and CONVERT already being reviewed, where does ACTIVE fits in there? As you aware, SURFACE is a hard rubberized "slim" case with a unique interlocking two-half design. CONVERT adds a rugged (ACTIVE-like) layer on top of SURFACE for a super protection at an expense of extra "bulk". ACTIVE fits perfectly in between. I wouldn't call it a slim case, but it's slimmer than some of the other dual layer cases. It also offers a decent protection thanks to its dual-layer design. Inner silicone shell is shock absorbent soft silicone with a wrap-around reinforced lip and side-grip molds. External skeleton offers additional layer of corner, side, and back protection. The feel of this exoskeleton layer is very smooth and rubberized (Seidio signature) which gives you a good grip in addition to side-grip from inner layer.
All the port openings have a perfect cutout and spot on alignment. Power and volume up/down buttons are covered, easy to push and a have great tactile response. Also, with inner layer being soft silicone, you never have to worry about your weirdly shaped after-market micro-usb plug or over-sized headphone plug since those openings will stretch a little bit. I know some people prefer a tight layer around the phone without any pull. With ACTIVE there is some pull around areas where external exoskeleton is not holding it down, but it comes to an advantage for those who worry about their screen protectors since soft silicone wraps around and will not push on the edges of screen protector if you have the kind which comes closer to the phone's edge. Also, it offers a decent bumper so there is no worrying of putting the phone face down on the surface. Exoskeleton includes a signature magnetic kickstand which I found to have NO interference with s-pen or other phone functions. Kickstand is very solid and works great in landscape orientation of the phone. Don't forget, there is also a generous selection of colors for exoskeleton shell, and those colors look really awesome in rubberized finish.
Holster is another great bonus on its own because I find Seidio holster design with reinforced bottom corners and spring-loaded latch to be one of the best out there. With a felt inner lining there is no issue of scratching your screen. Fitment is perfect, like a glove. No worries about wobbling or sliding inside. Also, the clip swivels around to adjust the angle of how you wanted it to be mounted on the belt. Clip itself is very sturdy and heavy duty.
Overall, this is another quality product from Sedio which I recommend. You can always refer to my previous SURFACE/CONVERT reviews to figure out which one will fit your needs better.

I'm disappointed that ACTIVE is just a brand name.
I expected somthing like an extended battery or some electronic gadget inside the case. Nice case and nice review though.

Those are like their signature designs where they have ACTIVE and SURFACE for different phones and tablets. Check out link in my signature, I have there a link to ACTIVE Nexus 7 review as well, similar design but has different details since its a tablet and not a phone.

OK, So this was my latest purchase for the Note 2. I already owned the Case-mate Tough (blue-gray), and after reading that the Seidio Active Holster was a perfect fit, I know I had to have one. But looking at Amazon, I saw that for about 10.00 more, I could order Active + Holster instead of just the Holster.
I like Seidio products, despite the fact that the BestBuy Surface knockoff I purchased proved ridiculously difficult to remove from the phone (I didn't try another one, so it very well could have been just mine). I like the Active quite a bit, but there are a few things that could have been done differently. For starters, the soft silicone case is a thumbs down. A firmer TPU case would have made this combo virtually unbeatable. The soft silicone is exceptionally slippery and attracts more dirt that my Duzign Sentinel's TPU case.
Also, while I enjoy the small cut-out right above the notification LED and see that as a sign of detail, I do not like the dip at the bottom that corresponds to the bottom button. Seidio did not need to add this feature as it is not remotely close to interfering with that button. That little "dip" is right above the cut-out for the mini-USB port and as a result, makes that little line of silicone very thin and, in my estimation, more prone to tearing over time.
I own the same color combination as displayed in Vectron's photos and the colors are amazing. Seidio has nailed the "Royal Blue" color of the exoskeleton and it looks amazing. Some reviewers slammed this case for its slipperiness on Amazon.com, and while I do concur about the soft silicone case being way too slick, the exoskeleton is just fine. Do other cases provide more grip? Perhaps, but the Active is just fine.
Now for the reason I bought it--the holster. Simply put, the best one I have used so far. Sturdy, sharp and I love the felt backing that protects the phone.
Overall, the Seidio Active is not my favorite case. But, like I said, for 10.00 more that the incredible holster I was going to purchase anyway, it's a bargain.

Review of Seidio DILEX case for Note 3 w/lots of pics!!!

Remember the artist formerly known as Prince? How about the one formerly known as Snoop Dog? I'm sure you do cause they all had hits in the past, although I'm not sure about their future. Guess who is joining the line-up? Seidio DILEX, formerly known as ACTIVE, except this one still has a bright future You have to be living under the rock not to be familiar with Seidio line of popular cases such as SURFACE, ACTIVE, CONVERT, OBEX, etc. I had a pleasure to review and to post about it in this forum for a lot of different Galaxy phones and Nexus tablet. For me SURFACE and ACTIVE was always like two siblings, so you can imagine my surprise when all of a sudden ACTIVE disappeared and got reincarnated as DILEX. Have no worry, it is the same good old ACTIVE, just under a different name. I think it was a great decision to rename it because some people probably associate Active with a more rugged outdoor construction, something typical for CONVERT or OBEX functionality. Either way, no matter what you call it - it still the same case with an inner shock absorbing silicone shell and outer soft rubbery flexible pc shell.
This two-layer interlocking design always surprised me with how Seidio was able to keep it that thin. It actually feels that it got more compact and thinner since my reviews of previous ACTIVE cases, while drop protection of the phone is still intact and very adequate. The inner silicon shell is typically soft without a tight tpu-like grip around the phone. I know some people don't like when case is pulling around the sides, but the advantage of this particular setup is being able to accommodate different screen protectors including various tempered glass brands where you don't have to worry about case pushing on the edges. The material is still a lint magnet, no way around it. The exoskeleton shell goes over inner silicone shell to secure its position in 6 different points of contact, at 4 corners and along both sides. This way it provides a decent corner protection and also holds inner shell along it's sides from excessive pull. The outer shell material is flexible which is very important during a drop to survive any cracks. Soft rubbery finish is very nice to the touch and adds non-slippery grip. Speaking of grip, sides of inner shell which are protruding outside of outer shell are sculptured for an excellent grip as well.
Another advantage of stretchable nature of inner silicon shell is ability to accommodate different shapes and sizes of usb and headphone connectors. Every other port opening is precisely cutout and aligned perfectly. Volume/Power buttons are easy to push and have a nice tactile response. Also want to make a point, temp/humidity sensor is open! Another star of this design is metal kickstand with a magnetic closure. It always adds a classy touch to Seidio cases, has a sturdy construction, and magnet doesn't interfere with a phone (never been an issue for my Note 2 with s-pen). This kickstand is intended for landscape viewing mode only. A signature accessory that I received with my review unit of the case was a holster, something I always praise in my Seidio reviews. Beside felt lining to protect the display of the phone, and swivel belt clip with a precise click mechanism, it has a very secure spring loaded clip for easy removal of the phone.
Overall, Seidio stayed very consistent with their original design scaled up for Note 3 footprint, and this DILEX case is still a good old ACTIVE with just a new name. Although no wheel was reinvented in there, I always feel like some subtle improvement are present with every new case release. Perhaps a bit thinner design and more flexible exoskeleton. Maybe one of these days they will figure out how to keep lint away from that inner shell, but for now just accept it as a great dual layer protection case for your Note 3 with a bonus functionality of pocket lint collector As always, shop around on Amazon where you can find the best deal on these cases.

A small trade off...

Between this (Dilex) and Ballistic SG Maxx

Have you used headphones with it?
I have read reviews for some Note 3 cases where the headphone jack area is covered too fully not leaving enough room for the headphone plug.
I recently got a Note 3 and have narrowed my case choices down to this Dilex case (formerly known as Active) and the Ballistic SG Maxx case for my Note 3.
The Maxx has bullet-proof protection, including a built-in, albeit user-replaceable, hard plastic screen protector (ironic since I just bought the MIME Feather Glass screen protector days before seeing the Ballistic SG Maxx. Then again, I can always use both).
If I don't like the Ballistic protector (one owner said it impacts touch screen sensitivity noticeably [not sure if that was the Note 3 version] whereas other reviewers said it works fine, including a video on youtube showing it works well enough, I can always stick with the MIME screen protector.
The big plus of the Dilex over the SG Maxx is that it does not add as much bulk and weight.
Would the Dilex, if I were to select it, be enough to protect my Note 3 from a 5 foot face down drop e.g. That is my dilemma.
The other comparable case is the Otterbox Defender but it is even bulkier and its built-in 'hard' plastic screen protector is not replaceable.
I had one for my EVO 4G LTE and did not care for it (switched to an OEM case designed by Seidio, although the Active would have been better in hindsight, even though my EVO survived a number of drops without issue).
A big plus, assuming I like the protector and appreciate the touch screen sensitivity after installing it, is that the SG Maxx screen protector can be purchased on its own (should it every break or get scratched up from a fall e.g.).
Decisions, decisions.

Pictures and videos show that the actual inner rubber shell looks dull and of lesser quality than what is advertised on their website, which looks shinnier. Can you confirm this? Is this the reason they change the "Active" name to "Dilex" due to material quality change?

Good review, thanks. My biggest complaint about this case is that the spring loaded hook on the belt clip pushes the silicone shell on the top and makes it difficult to snap in place. I also have the seidio surface and like it because it pops into place when using the holster, just wish it provided a little more drop protection. The Dilex for my S4 had hard plastic along the top and it popped into place when using the holster.

Honestly, I have no idea why they changed the name. It sure created a lot of confusion. Regarding material, it's the same as it was on Note 2, Note 3, S4, and Nexus 7 cases. I think the design and fitment gets slightly fine-tuned, but material stays the same. I'm just thinking, if you have a winning formula, why change anything? Everybody familiar with ACTIVE and SURFACE (also sold in Best Buy as Platinum case), so why change ACTIVE to DILEX? Unless they are planning to introduce in the future new cases with some "active" components or for more "active" lifestyle?

Great Review. I have the dilex case and the mime ghost screen protector. I have dropped my phone on hard floors and concrete many times and it still works great.

I just bought the dilex and I'm not too impressed. This didn't need to be a 2 piece design and the rubber is too soft. It just doesn't have a good 'feel' in your hand.

I totally agree...I've tried everything of teflon tape to make it slide it but it just won't work. I'm sure the soft rubber will eventually tear with extended use. Shame too cause this had almost everything I wanted in a case.

Review of Trident Aegis case for Nexus 7 (2013) w/lots of pics!!!

Seems like most of the cases for tablets fall into 2 categories, folio book cover type and rugged outdoor type. With rugged cases, some might look tough and claim to survive any extreme situation, but only a few can back it up with actual results of independent testing. Aegis series of cases definitely falls into the later category. I have tested a number of Trident cases in the past with various smartphones and tablets, and can tell you with certainty they mean business. And here is why.
The case arrived in a very nice package with a front clear display window to give you a full visual of the product. Flipping it over reveals a detailed list of all the supported features to give you a nice walk though of what to expect. I think the one which I was impressed the most with: tested with 26 drops onto a concrete from 4ft. I would never want to experience that, but knowing someone tested it already gives me a piece of mind. After taking the case out of the box, you do realize it's not exactly featherlight at 162g, but most of the weight comes from the inner silicone shell with an excellent shock absorption property and full wrap around design with added corner protection. For additional protection, you also get a 2nd layer of hardened PC material which holds inner silicone layer from pulling around the sides and has a grip assistance handle along the sides. The bottom two speaker ports also have a dust filter built into PC layer.
The inner silicone layer has power and volume up/down buttons sealed and covered, and offers flap covers for micro-usb charging port and headphone jack. I do have to note that power and volume buttons have a nice tactile response, but power button was a bit harder to push in comparison to volume. Perhaps that was an intension so you don't accidentally turn it on if you drop the case, but if you want a more touch sensitive response you can always put a little piece of sticky/mask tape inside of the rubber button to improve it. Camera port had a precise opening and a padding around for extra protection. On a front of the case, you get a nice wrap around protection and bezel coverage which enables you to put tablet face down without a worry of the display glass touching a surface and also additional skid protection. And speaking of screen protection. it's very rare to see it with other cases, but Trident also provides you with a quality scratch resistant screen protector. That was a very pleasant bonus.
Overall, this is one great case worth considering if you are planning to use your Nexus 7 outdoors or perhaps you let your kids play with a tablet or use it in a car mount (like the one offered by Arkon which are in partnership with Trident) over the bumpy ride. Any of these activities will give you a piece mind knowing this case was tested already by dropping it 26 times onto concrete from a 4ft height Also, on Amazon for $35-$40 its not a bad value.

quick question/opinion
I ordered the Seidio Dilex case yesterday and it came to be $47 and change with shipping...today I saw that the Trident Aegis dropped to $30 and change with free shipping. I was torn between both of these cases and was wondering in your opinion which one is the better case. I know that the stand is a huge plus on the Dilex but truthfully I won't use it at all. I do like the idea of using it as a screen cover while traveling. As far as thickness goes which of the two is the slimmer one? also, I read somewhere that the silicone on the Dilex is a dust/lint magnet, did you find this to be correct? how does the Aegis compare with attracting dust/lint? I'd appreciate your help and advice. Thanks!!!

Why don't you order both and then decide which one you like better? As long as you order from Amazon directly, rather than a specific seller, returns are hassle free. Everybody will have a personal preference since YMMV.
In my personal opinion, and considering that I review all the cases (you can check the Index in my signature), DILEX has a better quality material. They are both equally slim and have similar inner silicone and outer exoskeleton design. Seidio silicone will attract more dust/lint, and you can see it clearly from both of my detailed reviews since I included a lot of pictures. At the same time, Trident exoskeleton is more plastic-y and slippery; it will slide off the surface if you put the tablet face up. For traveling, DILEX screen cover will be a saver, and unlike typical folio cases, use just use it when traveling or as a kickstand; when you don't need it - you don't have to drag it around. Best cases I've found (without battery button cutouts!)

I've been on the hunt for a decent case for this phone since I got it on its release date and it's been greuling. It's almost as if this phone doesn't exist, in the Americas anyway, a lot of cases I've come across are nameless and generic, worst of all, poorly designed with a big theme being the inclusion of the battery door button cutout.
Here's a few companies and cases I've found to be actually designing a case for this phone:

Noreve, these are some impressive wallet style cases and the quality seems unprecedented, great for a gift or for those of us who want a nice leather flip case, definitely not within most budgets with certain customization options but worth keeping in mind:

J&D Slim Case, a simple case from Amazon for cheap, does the job but features the aforementioned battery button cutout and a less precise design than the rest on this list, I found it to be the more acceptable of the budget cases I've come across because of its simple design, small form factor, and the 4 color options:

Seidio, skeptical at first but glad this is a case I bought, a random brand that popped up in my search a few times. They seem to have one of the few 2 layer cases that don't have a battery button cut out and that also doesn't add much heft to the phone, all with adding a kickstand as well. Another great thing I love about the case is that it's inner layer can function as a standalone super slim rubber case, the fit is perfect and there are no quality issues as far as the precision and design is concerned (will post pics eventually):

Incipio, a popular brand making decent cases for more than just Samsung and Apple phones? WHAT?! I was surprised to see the selection Incipio has for the V20 and they look very promising. Starting from $20 you can get a case that fits well, looks nice, is from a trustworthy brand and best of all, doesn't have a battery button cutout! I took a liking to the Dualpro, NGP, and Octane models, they seem to provide good protection without adding a ton of bulk and offer some options for color:

I have the High Pro Shield VRS (also had it on Note 7). Fit and feel is perfect,however.... The kickstand pivot seems to be positioned a hair too low. The phone tends to wanna fall over at the slightest bump. The Note 7 didn't suffer from this (same model case). Its like the center of gravity is a lil higher, still a great case and is not a deal breaker.

Oh hey, I've wanted Incipio to make cases for this phone. It's my lucky day. Now to convince myself 19.99 is worth it...

Have you actually tried them all? If not which one did you end up going with? I may go with the Incipio for $19.99. It's definitely worth it because I don't have phone protection. You think I'd learn my lesson after dropping a Nexus 6P and cracking the screen. Nope. I'll try to be careful.

Slickwrap and under a poetic atmosphere case....I see no other case/skin setup I rather have. Feels good and I love the way it looks (get compliments all the time on it). Not the best picture (looks better in person)

Spigen Rugged Armor black is very nice, thin, fits prefectly, improves grip and audio jack cutout is large enough to use Professional Headphoes such as DT990 or HD500 and such... and it also is very very light

Exactly the problem I have with the Obliq. Nice case but the Sennheiser hd650 cable struggles to make the fit.

By far my favorite case so far. I have 3 other cases and I haven't used any of them since I picked up the Spigen. Can't say enough good things about it.

My big thing has been keeping screen recessed since my Evo 4g took a 2 ft fall getting out of a car & hit perfectly on a rock to shatter the screen.
I always used OtterBox defender after that. But phones kept getting larger. When I got Note 7, tried UAG and loved it when I switched to V20 got UAG again. Much less bulk, but feels just as safe. Phone has dropped multiple times with zero issues.

I bought this one in navy for 11$ on Ebay sale. i found the poetic revolution to be the best case . My phone has fell so much in the street and also i accidentally threw it to a wall. LOL everything looking good so far. I have had it since november. It has flaps for dust proofing and whole for every mic and the IR . It has a screen protector that if it gets scratched or you dont like it, well, you can always remove it and use your temper glass.

How well does it slide in and out of your pocket? My biggest beef is when a case is too "rubbery" and gets hung up.
Also how is the built in screen protector? I've been thru a ton of glass protectors now, none seem to suit me.

It slides very nice in and out of pocket. Lol
The built om screen protector is quite good. I didnt remove the one that came with the and yet it adhered very well to it. Up until now it has just one small scratch on it.
Over the time, the cover start getting some external sign of use that looks like sctatch but is more caused by all the time thr phone has felt on the street and other places. Lol nevertheless it still feels as if thr cover were brand new.
The only downside is that if you put it in a diagonal surface, it will slide easily. Unless you put it upside down

Picked up the Poetic Revolution case but removed the screen protector. In hindsight, that might not have been the best idea because of the double-sided take they use on the top and bottom of the front piece that holds the protector.
Let's just say I'm almost worried about removing the front now as I can see the adhesive trying to stick to the phone. ....... (Wait, Devhux! You mean to say you didn't think of that BEFORE putting on the front piece????? Hahahahaha!)
