I just purchased a white 32gb Nexus 5 to replace my Galaxy s2 that is dying a slow death. The phone is currently somewhere in transit via the usps. I am currently stationed in Italy and over here the outlets are 220v, not 110v. I want to purchase a wireless charger for my N5. I would purchase a 220v charger here, however, I am headed back home to the states later this year. I would hate to buy a 220v charger here, only to have to sell it, and purchase a new charger when I get home. So... anyone with a wireless charger, can you tell me if your particular charger is dual voltage?

The Qi chargers themselves are universal and don't use the 110v - 220v. So don't worry about that and pick up whatever Qi charger you want. They are all DC 5V 1.5A - 2A input. They generally just come with the charging plate and a USB cable (unless you buy for example the official Nexus 5 wireless charger which also includes the power adapter that supports 100 - 240v anyway). So you can plug the Qi charger using USB into a PC if you really need to (charges slower though).
What you will need to consider is the AC adapter/wall wart (what plugs into the wall, with a USB port or micro USB cable attached) that you usually buy separately (make sure it is 2A output). The AC adapter is what you need to make sure supports 100 - 240v. Most USB wall adapters are travel adapters by design, so they already support 100 - 240v. So it really shouldn't be a problem for you, but just double check it before you buy one.
For example, an AC adapter like this: AC 100 - 240v Input → DC 5V 2A Output. Then you just plug whatever Qi charger you have into it.

I have a Qi charger in my car which I typically only use during my 30 minute commute to and from work so I mostly do not lose any charge during my commute. I am looking to get another Qi charger to use at home and I was wondering if wireless charging stops when phone is fully charged. I am worried that wireless charging will stop in the middle of the night when phone gets charged giving me a partially charged phone in the morning.

Mine just uses a 12v DC input and it came with a 110v AC to 12v DC transformer so worst case you might just need to buy an adapter. But then again my charger was less than $25 shipped: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/accessory.chargers-nokia-wireless-charging-plate-sku6290260.html

I'd bet the Captivate will only see it as USB port and never draw more than 500mA from it. You can check which mode your phone is charging in the settings.

Settings->About Phone->Battery status (first one on the list... when plugged in to the AC adapter that came with the phone it will say Charing (AC) under it)
I got a $3 AC car charger ("For blackberry" but thy're both just microusb) off dealextreme. The connector is a little tight but it works great and charges fast
I've found that my Zune HD FM Transmitter charges well too. Has a USB port on it. Not a cheap alternative, but it's multi-functional and it works. Think the Captivate recognizes anything to charge as long as it gives power...
I'm sure it will charge, but at only 500mA, will be pretty slow (especially if you're using while charging).
I use an old crackberry charger (has usb port on it). 500mA output. Charges phone fine. Just not as fast as the samsung 700ma charger.

I haven't tried the car charger, but the AC outlet->USB works great
I purchased the $1.16 car charger from Monoprice.com, and it works great. Unfortunately, board rules don't allow me to post a link. Just search for "car charger" on Monoprice, and it's the first one that comes up. Or, search for the product ID: 3523.
The only problem is that, while the label lists a maximum output of 1A, the Captivate only draws 500 mA from it (USB mode), as is the case with the other chargers listed in this thread. I have not found the lower charging current to be a problem.
For $1.16... It's a steal.
I also purchased two micro USB cables from the same site, the ones with ferrites, but I had to mod the plastic heads with a Dremel to get them to fit the angled port opening. They fit and work perfectly now, though.
Even with the stock 700ma wall charger, it takes almost 4 hours to completely charge the battery. A 500ma charger (most iPhone ones and generic USB ones) will take even longer. This of course assumes you're not using the phone for anything. If you're using the phone for navigation, for example, your 500ma charger will not have enough juice for the phone and the battery level will continue to drop. So, it is important to have the car charger that can supply more than 500ma to the phone.
Currently, I know the Zune HD premium car charger can be recognizd as AC charger and seems supply more than 700ma of juice. And I read some Moto mini-USB car charger (no USB port on the charger) can be used as rapid charger as well.
I've tried two different cheap USB port car charger, one labeled 2.1a and the other is 700ma. Both are designed for iPhone/iPod and hence can only be recognized as USB charger.
If anyone found any small USB port car charger that can be recognized by the phone as AC charger, please post here.

A guy bought it for his Evo and said it charged nicely with everything running (GPS, 4G, Navigation, et cetera). Here's a link to his post reviewing it. There's also the Revive II which has a 2.1A port and a 1A port.

Thanks for the link. The big question is: Can Captivate regconize it as rapid charger instead of USB? Just because it works with Evo (HTC phone) doesn't mean it will work the same for Captivate. And I suspect the Revive II won't work well for Captivate at all because it is designed for iPhone/iPad.

I can't say how it'll work with the Captivate, but they were having the same problem with their phones (700mA chargers only outputting 500mA). So, I'd have to say there is a good chance it would work. I'd test it out myself, but I really don't need a car charger. My work commute is 10 minutes round trip, school is 20 minutes.
Anyone come across a good combination charger/mp3 adapter?

Thought I would start a car charger thread.
I picked up one of these at Walmart the other day:

And it works quite wonderfully. It's tiny, and even with bluetooth/GPS/Navigation running, it was slowly charging the battery. And it charges it quite quick if you don't have nav running.
It can be a bit annoying to pull out once stuck in, although you probably don't need to do that very often.

i have a JABRA charger (comes with JABRA Cruiser) and it doesnt seem to charge my GN while GPS navigation is on (even though its saying charging on the battery icon)
it used to work perfectly on my HTC Desire HD (with GPS+Bluetooth+WIFI ON )
any recommendation on how to fix this please ? like a reference output current that is enough to charge the GN while navigating ?

The Griffen claims 1A per USB port, and I believe it.
Online reviews say some users with other phones need to mod the Griffen to charge their phone, otherwise it only supplies 100mA. Some crack open/mod the Griffen to short two terminals to get the full charging ability, and/or use a 'charging cable' which shorts the terminals within the cable.
As a reminder, the Griffen seems to charge the Note full blast, but perhaps something similar is needed for the Jabra. I suggest installing 'Currentwidget' to see what sort of charge you are getting.

I have battery monitor widget installed & it shows charging via usb when i connect it to jabra charger, but the weird thing is that the galaxy note starts mtp mode once i connect it!
Could it be the cable? Or shall i just take the griffin charger to solve this?
By the way,griffin charger works out of the box out do i have to solder modify it?

At first it seemed the phone was only drawing a "USB" level of current, so I was all set to rip it apart and solder the centre pins to force AC charging, but when I double checked with a dry run and a temporary short the phone switched to AC charging. Now it seems to be continuing to draw "AC" levels, so maybe I had a poor contact initially and a few (un)plugging operations have made the contacts more reliable. I'll try it out later today with satnav running and see if it keeps up with the pace and report back.
EDIT : Charge level draining like water out of a sieve with this thing whilst running satnav, and the phone said it was "AC" charging too. Switching ports didn't help.
i'm using the official car charger from my old nexus, the only charger i found can charge my phone with 3g and nav on because of the 2A output. other cheap usb chargers i tried with so called 2A output just don't work

I must have four of them.

I have many chargers but they are cheap ones, I dont believe they work properly. I shall just buy the one drgopoos showed. I have like 3 USB cables. I ill have to carry both when im out and about!

This is hp touchpad 2amp charger. Many people have reported that 2amp charger charges faster.
2amp chargers wont hurt ur phone because the phone only takes the amp it wants.

Is there a place for an original Samsung 1A charger (not one where you have to attach a USB cable). I have the original one from Germany that has a US adapter, but would prefer getting two original Samsung ones (not Palm, etc) to put around the house.

I have a Samsung TAB and a galaxy s2. the problem with these is that the connectors are not compatible and I could not charge the TAB from a PC. I found something on Amazon called the CSQUID (damn I just checked and the price is flipping $15!! I paid $25 for this!!!!). With it I got a single cable to charge the TAB and the S2 from a PC - even when the PC was asleep. A bonus was that the devices charged from the PC as fast as they did from the wall cube. So with the PC and this cable I was SET...
I dont know details like whether they ship to the UK etc but worth you guys cheching it out...Also dont know what port the Samsung note uses so please check before buying...

Sorry - one other thing I forgot to mention is that in one of the modes (with the lightning symbol), it does not care what you have as the power source. So you can charge the samsung devices from ANY wall, car or PC USB port. My tab for e.g. cannot use the standard Samsung cable to charge from my wifes iPhone wall cube. With this CSQUID cable in the "lightning mode" I can charge from it.
But the point of this whole thing in my mind is that I dont need to carry ANY dang wall adapter around....I have my PC with me at all times and since I can charge even when the PC is asleep, I can charge anywhere...

Not sure why but if you use a generic 5V 1amp charger, it takes a longer time compared to the original one that came with the Note.

When I charge my phone from the Android side I get very close to 1A, but when I use the Apple side that goes down to around 500mA. To note, I used the same cable and only one port was used while testing. I used Battery Monitor Widget to track the charge rates.
Either side is strong enough to charge our phones, but it would be great if they both charges at full charge rates. So now I am looking for a wall charger and ideally I would like a dual port charger that can charge two Android devices at over 1.5A. I know we can't use 1.5A but it will future proof the chargers for a while, or will work with tablets.

Maybe look at getting a powered USB hub? I know the 2 I have at home can supply more than the 500mA USB2 spec as they've back powered my raspberry pi with a hdd attached before.
from my limited research, apple and android phones use different methods for signaling AC charging.
Android phones like to have the data pins in the USB cable shorted to each other to signal the phone for AC fast charging.
Not sure what Apple does, but it's not the same. That's why there are two different ports on the charger. Android ports have the data pins shorted together.
On a side note, you can also buy "charging only" cables on amazon that do the data pin shorting inside the cable. this may let you use your android phone with the apple labeled USB ports.

This is correct. Apple devices want to see some combination of 2V and 2.8V on the data +/- lines to signal wall adapter charging. They do it this way because it allows the charger to tell the device what amperage it's capable of delivering (500mA, 1A or 2A) which is pretty cool.
It's been my impression that even using an charging only cable/adapter an Apple charging port will only give you 500 mA.
For what it's worth I recently emailed Anker about this and they said as much. I don't have an appropriate cable or charger to test it on. But Anker also told me they will be releasing new chargers in December that feature their smart charging port which detects what type of device you've attached (Apple, Samsung or generic Android) and then behaves accordingly. I just ordered one of their external battery packs (Astro3) which has one of these ports for 2.1A plus 2 x 1.5A Android ports. A similar AC charger would be nice if you can wait.

I bought a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 when I was in Europe but now that I'm back home I can't use the charger cause they're different than what we use here. Do I have to buy a new one or is there any chance I can use my Galaxy S4's charger? I understand the chargers have some sort of voltage information I don't know if my phone's charger will work since the batteries are not the same. Thanks for your time.

There is a lot of talk about cables and chargers not working properly. So I installed Galaxy Charging Current (Play store) and checked all my chargers and cables.
First off all my cables worked fine, but thats not what your asking.
Install the app on your tab and check with what value its charging.
Then you know for sure if you can use the charger on the right. (Or buy a europe tot US adapter for your 5.3 volt charger)
(I charge my phone wit the tab charger and have no problem)
I bought this little usb amp/volt meter and checked all my chargers and cords. Maybe 10% of them were junk. Some actually put out 5.3 volts like the stock charger. They all put out different amps. Some below 1.

Here is another reading a few minutes later as it warmed up..
and lastly, ten minutes later, as the charger is now fully hot..
This app is useless. Its readings have nothing to do with real current from charger. I have PortaPow USB Power Monitor and it clearly shows that Tab S 10.5 takes 1.75A from oem charger and this app shows values between 1 and 1.2A.

I dont know if its useless but when T700 is connected to my pc it show 476 mA , connected to my original charger it shows 1800 mA and connected to my 1 amp phone charger it shows 745 mA.
The values that I expected.
From the makers site I learned only Maximum value is important.
Where the USB plugs into the tablet to charge. Is it suppose to get really warm?

It shows what your tablet should take from the charger not what it is actually taking. So if you connect it to 2A charger it will show 1.8A because that's maximum value Samsung designed Tab S to be charging at. I did lot o testing and this app will always show 1800mA maximum when tablet is actually taking much less current for example when connected with long cable (15ft). My testing shows that longest cable I can use is 10ft 28/24AWG from Monoprice and oem charger. 15ft cable is only charging at 1.2A and any cable longer than 3ft is unusable with Anker 40W IQ charger. OEM Samsung charger gives 5.45V not ~5V as any other USB charger.
