Updated to 4.3 and now I lost hundreds of pictures and videos from gallery - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I updated it on 12/09/2013 and I can only see pictures back until that point and not before! I noticed it too late..
Man I tried every thing I could. ****, I downloaded the entire internal memory and converted it to VHD so I could run Recuva but still most of the recovered files are in huge zips and cant open them with any 7zip/winrar type of software. I downloaded other picture apps and they dont see it either. The SD card has it's stuff still there so thats not a problem.
I have been told its because the first roll out of 4.3 was bad and some people had issues. I want to able to downgrade to 4.1.1 but for some reason most of the methods out there are for people who have a non-stock 4.3 OS and not the OTA update.
Can anyone help me? I really want those pictures/videos back!
So, how can I go back to 4.1.1? It might be my last chance to get it right. I have Clockwork recovery and tried to put on the stock tmobile OS but it always fails via Odin and Rom manager. Phone still works. please help!

I tried everything. I do believe it's gone at this point. I recovered a few pictures that were half cut off with a professional recovery sw. Freaking terrible. Lost so much stuff. Never again I suppose :/

Take a quick look in data/media/0 or data/media/legacy

Easy way to tell instead of looking thru all your folders.
Is the space still taken? If yes, then it's there somewhere, if not, then they are most probably done for.

Various issues after root

Hello all, concerned that I've messed up my phone after using the Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit 3.0.0] and using 2-2-2 for my N7100 (JRO03C.N7100XXALIJ) on Vodafone UK.
Upon reset from ODIN flash (whch showed pass) my phone no longer has IMEI number, ERI, etc. thus no longer able to make calls and the like. Storage on the device also looks totally b0rked; currently showing 359mb used by applications in storage options and 0.00B total space. Looking bad in Windows too;
So far I've tried a factory reset via *2767*3855#, which resulted in stock apps being installed but still the same storage problems and no IMEI, 2-6 stock flash in the Toolkit and a re-root via 2-2-2. I don't wish to do any more damage so leaving it there until someone can advise me on how to get my phone working again. At this stage I'm not caring if it's rooted or unrooted just no longer an expensive and small web browser.
If anyone can help it'd be most appreciated.

Efi? Not sure what you mean by that but no, I don't think so. I have the IMEI number and that's about it.
Just noticed that the thread title has gone AWOL too, not my day!
Anyone have any ideas? Really need to get it fixed. :crying:
So you don't have an efs backup.
Did you even read anything before rooting. It clearly says to make an efs backup.
From what you have written you don't have one and it's unique to your phone so nothing can be done about it.
Reset counter and flash stock rom.

Yes I did, the sticky thread said nothing about an efs backup before rooting? Neither did the video. Would it be possible to use the guide from here and root with stoxk rom at same time?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
The stock Vodafone uk rom from that thread appears to have a different build number, would that be ok? Maybe that was the problem in the first place?
Yes you can flash any rom from thread you mentioned, as well can follow same thread post#2 to root, if you had follow that, i have advised in red colour 'first thing to do after rooting is efs backup'
Alternatively look this too

Thanks for the replies, flashed stock rom and rooted staying well clear of the toolkit and everything went well. Should have done it manually in the first place haha.
Got a chance to make a EFS backup too. Happy days.

[Q] CM10.1 sd card issues

I just recently installed cm10.1 on my Sprint GNex and pretty much the only problem I have is that it moved everything on my sd card to a 0 folder. I've read that this has to do with the multiple user profiles used in 4.2.1. Is there a way to turn this off? Because it's not recognizing any of my music the way it is now.
This can easily be corrected by searching xda or Google
Really dude? Don't you think I've tried? This is exactly the reason why I posted this question. I searched but could not find an answer. Why even bother replying if you're not gonna help?
If you searched we wouldn't be having this discussion. You're not the first one to face this problem. There are a couple of guides out there that keeps your sdcard the way it was before 4.2
If you can't find the answer by searching go back to stock, give the phone to your mom, then give up on life.
Again, I have searched for the answer to this issue, but the only thing I found was needing to have an updated recovery. Which I do have yet the problem persists. So you can just go **** yourself.
I made you mad bro? Well that makes me glad bro lol
Options are to move your music files back using adb PC or file manager. Or Use a music app that allows you to direct it to certain folders.
I haven't tried flashing the sprint 4.2.1 image or getting the ota but judging by k786's guide flashing the stock image first will keep your sdcard unchanged.

PS- yes this is k786, i changed my username :good:
Edit- oh i was looking at this page and saw that the latest was 4.1.1 but if its out then he can use my guide :good:
Sprint leaked it out awhile back

Not mad but frustrated. I knew moving the files was the only thing I could really do to solve it but I was hoping that there was an easier solution. It's kinda bothersome to move 25gigs of music
Use xenoamp. Its a music app that lets you choose where to look for your music

[Q] Deleted Pictures?

I unlocked my Bootloader today and without knowing basically wiped my SD card of all personal files including music, text message backup files, my backup root files, ALL files. I honestly dont care to recover all files that were deleted but am dying to get my pictures back. Is there anyway i can get them back without the guide used to get back all deleted files as seen in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705 guide? I was trying it but it doesnt wanna play right with my laptop(Windows 8 and it keeps saying i dont have "permission", even though im the main and only user). I tried the disk digger app but its finding all kind of random pictures i never remember and things like that, just too much. So please if anyone knows anyway i can get them back share some insight.
Anything????
That was a super fast bump...you could try recovering everything with disk digger and trying to pick out what you're looking for after it finishes. The recovery applications look for anything that has not been overwritten in memory (even if it was deleted), it won't pick and choose the most recently saved stuff for you; you usually need to do that yourself.

[Q] HUGE problem after Kies/JB 4.1 Update!

I will try to make this short and sweet...
"backed up" phone prior to letting Kies update my phone.
apparently everything but my photos/videos was backed up. (stupid me for not double checking that AND the version it was updating to)
updated phone. phone is pretty much useless now. (EVERY SINGLE APP freezes and crashes eventually)
wont connect VIA USB... knows it is connected and so does the computer. computer now refuses to install (it tries) anything involving MTP. all other drivers are installed. Kies can see the device.. tell me how many photos... but by the time I try to transfer anything Kies or the USB app on the phone freezes and crashes.
ive tried everything under the sun that is basic. uninstall drivers.. uninstall kies... reinstall things.. reboot. safe mode... USB debugging.. etc. NOTHING will get my computer to pull the files or the phone to stop crashing the programs.
I NEED to get these photographs from the phone.. there are at least 2k of them.
what are some options I have or things I could try?
and DO NOT say factory reset.. thats not an option until I get desperate.. do that and try some recovery software for photos.
thanks for any help. I have about a week or so to figure this out... so I can return this stupid galaxy express I had to buy just to have a functional phone.
Have you tried using a micro SD card and transfer your photos internally via a file manager app.

do you have a suggested app? and is this possible without going into the gallery cause that I cant even open... just freezes and fails
Why dont u just make a nandroid backup and wipe. Then flash the latest stock rom through odin. If that fixes the issue of freezing apps and your mtp problem you can restore the backup and should be straight.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Edit: also are you familiar with adb? You could boot to recovery and pull the photos with adb from there. And how much space is free on internal storage? The issues your experiencing sounds typical of full internal storage

you have to break that down a bit... only time I have to work on this is coming off of 12 hour shifts and im not too functional lol
there is space on internal I think about a gig or so left. the phone did NOT have issues prior to updating to 4.1. ALL problems started after 4.1.
also just tried installing a file manager... wont install. play store app freezes

Well to me it sounds like some issue was caused in the upgrade. Are you currently using a custom recovery? I ask because I have a feeling a factory reset will be your fix and with a custom recovery you could backup then wipe so you can troubleshoot w/o losing everything
And in the future once u fix this I recommend Dropbox which will automatically backup all those pictures so u dont have to worry about losing them again. Regardless of what you want to do to fix it we should be able to pull the pics even with mtp being borked

You could try rooting your phone and flashing a recovery. After that, go into the recovery and fix permissions. This won't delete anything and it's worth a shot.

no the phone has nothing special installed. looked into the custom recovery... and its not going to work (at least I dont think) cause I dont have a solid USB connection... as in it does "connect" per se. the phone knows its connected... the computer knows its connected but it doesnt show up as a drive like it used to.
In download mode, you shouldn't have problems like that.

[Q] What's with all these mnt_1, data_1, data_2, data_3

Have been using exclusively mrRobinson's method (ODIN + pre-rooted images) ever since I got my S3. Have not paid close attention until recently, when I noticed the many empty folders with the _x (x = 1, 2, 3, etc...). Any idea if I could just get rid of them?
And a related question: if I would like to start "clean" with the next new image mrRobinson may release any time now, knowing that I have all my data backed up, what would be the best way to go after it? Wipe data/factory reset, prior to ODIN-ing the new? Else?
TIA
Those were in there even with the stock rom. I have no clue what they are for.

Make a backup and see. I don't really mess around with folders I don't know about. They could be places to store temporary files or something.

Since some days I have this mnt_ directory on my S4 (Android 4.3). It came up with problems of directories in Locus - map software.
They can not be deleted or changed.
How can I get rid of them ???

You dont.
They are obviously vital to the system if they keep getting rebuilt. Like I said, likely just directories for temporary file storage.

Pretty sure some are knox related. Just ignore them.
