[Q] The camera - LG Optimus G (International)

Hello.
I always found the camera somewhat blurry. Today the plastic protection over the lens fell out. Im going to put it back though, I tried to take some pictures without it, The blurryness almost disappeared. This little plastic protector is somewhat damaged with scratches and so on. But I look around on other pictures taken with this phone, they resemble what pictures I've taken before. Even my fiancee's Galaxy S3 with 8 MP camera takes alot better pictures than my Optimus G.
Is there anyways to get this little plastic thingy more sharp, so to speak?
I got the LG Optimus G (E975)
Sincerely,
Onec

Is the plastic cover scratched -- like from rubbing against something?
Ironically, I am having the same issue. I was just searching for a solution on here last night. It seems to have just happened within the past week. The cover on mine doesn't seem to be scratched.
I tried cleaning it vigorously with my shirt, but the haze wouldn't go away. A little more "cleaning" today and most of it seems to be gone.
My buddy fixes copiers, so I figured he might have something that will clean it up good. I will work on this tomorrow and see if I can get it cleared up.
nope no scratches or anything. i'm pretty careful with the phone since i paid full no-contract price for it i've done windex and rubbing alcohol via q-tip...but no success.
the drastic difference without the back cover is like going from watching standard tv without contacts to watching HD tv with contacts.
yeah, I noticed the same on my tilt 2. The plastic cover makes the pictures blurry. I ended up just removing the plastic camera piece from the back cover. The camera is recessed, so I don't see the need for a plastic cover. Works much better.

Kinda like this:
I've got the European version of the TP2 - it doesn't have any screen in the back cover - just a hole!
big difference..
thanks for posting this....hadn't thought about this issue....
but checked it out...and yep...HUGE difference....
the plastic 'lens cover' looks like a pretty cheap plastic material....
even with the best care and cleaning it will ultimately change....
mine's filthy and scratched a little....
considering popping it out
I popped mine out and it looks a lot better now. The contrast/sharpness is much better without it. The camera is actually pretty decent now, weird that htc ruins the cam by putting these plastic pieces of crap over the lens!

that's exactly how my pictures came out. thanks for posting examples.
those of you that have popped that plastic cover off haven't had any dust or foreign debri issues getting in the phone, without it? that's my only concern.
Nice find asiancuta the camera is so much better thanks for sharing.
It's not because the lense is dirty, I tried it the same day the TILT2 came out, fresh out of the box. So it's not a dirty lense, i had the same issue with the TILT 1 , its the protective lense cover, it's just cheap and not clear. so you could remove it , some people even drilled a hole in it. It will allow for dust to get under the cover more, but it gets under there anyways, you can blow it out every once in awhile, instead over removing your cover and having people look at you like your retarded.

true..i airblow mine once a week at least. dust build up is incredible...pretty much a dust magnet. looks like i'll attempt to drill a hole or take the plastic off completely. picture quality is too d*** good without it
If you are concerned about dust, when removing the clear plastic piece, place a small piece of gaffers or masking tape (with one end curled over) on the hole. This will create a small flap that will prevent dust from entering. When it's time to take a photo just peel back the tape a little.
Also No need to Drill a hole, from the outside push on lense protector inward, and it pops right off, if you decide later, you can put it back on real easy.

i'm gonna keep the plastic off for a couple of days and see how it goes.
side note and another small observation: looks like a slight bad design flaw on HTC's part, for the HTC Tilt 2 if you look at other phones...blackberry, nokia's, and even the HTC Pure..basic keyboardless version of the Tilt2...you can see the lens higher up on the back of the phone. now hold you're phone as you usually would while browsing the web or checking the weather. don't know bout anyone else, but i place my pointing finger along the back of the phone as stable support..unknowingly covering the lens part. that and possible oxidation (the yellow discoloring that occurs on your car's headlights) may lead to the bad quality pictures.
Night and day difference in popping out that cheap plastic lens. WOW, better then my 3.1 digital camera now.
Yeah, I did that on my Kaiser and it was much better. Bought a replacement back cover just for that purpose, but I can't find another cover specifically for the Tilt 2 yet, so I just can't bring myself to do it to this phone yet.

I got my TP2 just one and a half week ago new here in Germany. And there was no plastic lense in the battery cover, just a hole.
But the quality of the camera is more than poor. I had an SE X1 with the same 3.2 MP before it -that was goot quality. The TP2's quality is more than poor compared with the X1. Like 1 MP (TP2) to 3 MP (X1). Even at a good sunny day a picture in a garden is without sharpness at the edges and in the bottom of the front. The camera of the X1 I used more and more often instead of my standard digital camera for same easy pictures and it was ok. But the camera of the TP2 ist unusable compared with the X1

Camera Lens Scratched

I used to take some really clean phone camera pictures, but lately, they've all been really fuzzy. I looked at the lens, and it's scratched up pretty badly. Has this happened to anyone else's? Is there any way to repair it?
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657598 has details.

Is it me, or is camera quality really bad?

I just got a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint) and really love it, but one thing that bothers me is the camera.
When I try to take pictures, the picture is VERY blurry and grainy, am I doing something wrong? I tried all of the resolutions and they are all the same. Not to mention, the camera kind of lags when I'm trying to take a picture...
Any suggestions?
Gotta have good lighting ...

Ive noticed sometimes if you take off the back cover and clean the lens on both the back piece and the acctual camera it can make a huge difference. I dont know how long youve had it but if its been awhile, that might help...
The camera is not too good. However it does take decent picuteres if you makesure the lens cover is clean on the outside and inside. some people have suggested removing the plastic piece altogether. there are a whole bunch of threads about it.
What you describe is bad background light. You have some light profiles, so try them. The camera doesnt have much resolution, flash light is absent, but still its more sensible than a nokia from that era.
The lens cover on the back will get scratched and it really makes for some bad pix.
I have a post about this a long while back.
But anyways, take battery cover off and try to take a pic and see how it looks. If you see a improvement buy a new battery cover. Or just the lens cover out of the battery cover. That's what I usually end up doing on all my phones. Sure the real camera lens may gets dust but its glass and its reccessed enough to not get scratched.
Try this and report back

[Q] How severe is the One X lens cover scartch issue?

Hi all,
I own a HTC one X, i got it couple of months back. I recently noticed that my camera lens cover is pretty much scratched up, specially at the bottom where the whole phone's upper parts resides when laid flat. I tried taking pictures but see not much difference.
I just want to know how bad this issue is? How many of the HOX users here have this issue?
Should i be worried about the picture quality? Is there anyway i can figure out whether the scratches are affecting my pictures?
I Love my phone and seeing the scratches made me worried and i right away ordered a SPG Crumena leather pouch to avoid more scratches from coming in future. I now want to assess how will the scratches affect my pictures, can someone help me figure that out please.
Well I've read around on xda, that scratching the camera lens causes a deterioration in picture quality. Best way to confirm or check is to compare photos taken with your scratched up lens now vs an old picture taken with your new Htc One X i.e non-scratched lens.

Hi,
I had the same problem exactly, and i have just joined to give you the solution that I used. My HTC photos are sharp and clear as before now.
The solution is very simple ... all what you need is a clean glasses cleaning cloth, glass cleaner (like windex) and tooth paste !! yes tooth paste!
First clean the cover with the glass cleaner ... keep it wet .. apply a tiny portion of tooth paste on it .. rub it with the cloth ... keep it wet all the time.
Repeat till you get the lens back to its original state ... or at least 90 % ... the technique used is similar to the one used in cleaning car head lights .. similar to this video for example:

I hope u find it useful.

Lg G4 camera lens change

Hi guys, has anyone in here changed their G4 camera lens. I mean just the lens, not the whole frame plus lens?
I got my lens, but realised that there was no frame included. Also i realized there is no video from popping the glass out. So does the lense pop out with preasure to the center of the frame? And how is it attached?
Sorry for nooby question...

So here is how u do it, got some help in G4 google + group.
Give the old lens some heat. I used hair dryer to get bit of temp. Then u might wanna use a soft tool to press the old lens out from the center.
Cleaned the old frame->put some glue, really tiny amount to the ring, trying not to hit glue to the center->new lens in 2sec hold still
Then its done. Lets see how it sticks.
Edit: As the final result, i would say dont buy just the lens. Buy the whole part and change it...
