Mic volume issue after EU OTA - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Quick question, has anyone experienced issues with the microphone while using Skype or Hangouts after the latest (last week's) OTA for Europe?
At first I thought it was bad design on a case I got, but the issue persists even without the case (and there actually is a hole in the plastic for the mic), tried Hangouts to make sure it wasn't just Skype, so I'm thinking it might have to do with the OTA update.
The mic wasn't doing wonders with capturing before, but it appears to be unusable for Skype now unless the tablet is held at the same distance as a phone.
On a relevant note, is anyone aware of any tools that could help adjusting mic gain or disabling the automatic gain control/ noise cancellation features?
ROM is stock LG, rooted.

Me too
Same here with the exact same setup.
I've tried alsamixer but this proves useless until you know witch setting is involved among hundreds of available mixers.
I wonder if an external bluetooh or USB microphone is not a better option.

Same issue
I just recently got the G pad and I definitely have a problem with the mic. Is this happening on all the G pads or do you think is a hardware issue on my device?
I tried with Skype and Hangouts and my voice was barely audible on the other end. Just to make sure it was not my internet connection I tried with my old trusty Galaxy S2, no problems there so it is definitely a problem of the G Pad.
I have no screen, warming, yellow lines, light bleeding or any other issue. So, the device is perfect except for the mic, do you think it is worth to take it back to the shop to exchange it for a new one or this will not cure the mic problem?
Any luck tweaking the mic in software btw? Finally, has anybody tried to use a bluetooth headset and microphone with it, is it possible?
Thanks!

I am also having mic issues currently on sw ver v50010a.
it seems very quiet. update is downloading so will see how it compares.

I'm on software ver V50010b and I keep having issues with the microphone.
Don't know what to do... the rest of the tablet is perfect, so I'm afraid to exchange it just for this issue and get a new one with more problems.

I put CM11 Rom on and it now seems to loud so it distorts. Anyone aware of any way of tweaking the Mic settings?

same issue
Hi all.
Has anyone found a solution? I have the same problem with micro when using skype. When I use the micro in Dictaphone it works fine so the micro as such is ok.
For the software, I have V50010b. Thanks for your help!

[Q] Mic issue =(

Hello, i wonder if i am the only one with this issue..
When i started using my one X (quadcore version) all seemed to work fine, then i received and installed 2 new updates from htc and my internal microphone stopped working in calls and with any app i tried.
I havent rooted or installed any custom roms. I tried the hard reset, and still nothing. It seems that the updates have problems with the internal mic, because with headphones works fine.
Any ideas?
Im trying to find how to downgrade my firmware to see if it helps.
Thanks in advance.

I need to clarify the problem, because headphones are for getting sound out of the phone, and mic is for getting sound into the phone, so I'm not sure why you mentioned headphones.
Also, you can't downgrade the software without unlocking.
Check the microphone hole at the bottom of your phone. Might be clogged with something. I had the same issue with my incredible s. Mic had suddenly stopped working. Found out that I had peanut butter stuck in the microphone hole on the cover

[Q] Broken Internal Microphone MOD Request

Hi all,
After an extensive search around the web and these forums I have not found a solution to my problem. In a weak moment, I spilled a small amount of water on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and my internal microphone was broken as a result. The broken microphone left me with a horrible static sound during calls and the person on the other end unable to hear me. However, when I use the phone on speakerphone, calls work fine. I'm assuming this is because the speakerphone uses a different mic (i.e. the camera mic?). I've thoroughly tested to make sure that the microphone is broken by wiping completely, going all the way back to stock 4.0, and checking the microphone on each of the following iterations of Android. I went to Verizon and had my SIM card swapped out to no avail. After the problem failed to fix itself, I re-rooted and am now running CM 10.1.
Anyway, as a user of Groove IP for my calls, I started messing around with the settings and found that it allows me to change the default microphone during calls. It allowed me to force the phone to use the camera mic rather than the internal mic and, alas, it worked! I'm sure the quality on the other end is not quite as good but it's the best I'll be able to do at this point. Now, here comes the MOD request.. I'm wondering if any of the amazing devs that frequent this forum could take a look through the source code and see if they can force my phone to use the camera mic all the time (via a flashable zip?). This would allow me to use it not only during calls but throughout my system as well (i.e. voice search, text to speech). This would really extend the life of my device and I'd love to buy somewhere a beer or two for helping me out.
If you want to see how Groove IP does it, the mic source settings are in Groove IP (lite or pro) troubleshooting section of the settings. Thanks in advance!

Im preety sure thats a software glitch you have there my friend the speaker and normal phone use the same microphones as far as i am aware. The reason it may work in speaker phone only is because the galaxy nexus has a microphone on the top and bottom of the handset. Which mic is not working. I need specifics.
Hmmm... Okay, I didn't know it uses a second mic other than for noise cancellation. I was assuming it was the bottom mic, and I test it by using the Sound Recorder app and all I get is static. I can record videos with audio just fine, which is how I know the camera mic works. It would certainly be a curious software issue, considering the problems occurred immediately after the water damage, but I'm open to it. How do you think I can test the different internal mics to see which one is/isn't working?

From what I know now it sounds like a hardware issue. I highly recommend buying a replacement. Im not quite sure what youy expect from a mod or something. Could you explain. Ill try to help as best I can.
p.s. also I just posted my new project HERE for the galaxy nexus and im not sure if the download link works for anyone but me on my google drive. would you mind at least testing the downlod link for me? Thanks!

here this might help: replacement mic
Well that replacement mic could certainly be an option, I appreciate the link. I can also confirm that your download works as well.
But what I'm looking for is this, some sort of mod that will deactivate the broken (internal mic) and tell the phone to automatically use the camera mic in all situations in which a mic would be needed. Basically tell the phone it only has the one mic. I'm not sure if this is possible or even plausible, but I appreciate your help either way.

You will need a special sort of mod. Im not sure if there are any out there. I could take a look into making one for you, if you like (no garuntees).
P.S. Thanks for trying the link.
Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.. Even if you get in there and decide it's too much work, that's fine. If it won't work then maybe I'll try that replacement mic, though I'm not sure I have the steady hands or the technology to pull off a job like that.

You can replace the mic for under $15 so it isnt too bad price wise. Do a google search locally for computer or phone shops. You can often time get them to replace it for like $50, but its garunteed to be properly installed. Doing it yourself isnt very hard if you have a good instruction ste and the proper tools.
Yeah, that would definitely be better than getting a new device before I'm ready. Thanks.

So I replaced the USB and mic to no avail... The same problem persists. Major static on phone calls until set to speaker phone and nothing but static recorded with the sound recorder. I suppose it's a problem with another piece of hardware or actually a software issue. I've rooted, un rooted, wiped, and wiped some more, so I'm suspicious it's a hardware issue.
Is it possible or even plausible to make a (flashable) mod that tells my device to only use the camera microphone (or the other mic?) for all situations in which a mic is required? I'd be willing to throw a beer or two (or whatever your poison) your way as this would really extend the life of my device.

I have the same exact issue!
I've been looking everywhere for the past month to find anyone else with this problem... I can't believe i missed this post somehow. For me it started after i put my head to my phone after a shower. I wasn't sure it was from this as i had recently started using a new ROM as well as an extended battery from Hyperion.
I have attempted replacing both the headset speaker ( the one used when you put the phone to your ear) which includes the second microphone and that didn't help, and i just tried replacing the microphone and that didn't help either.
I have also attempted going to earlier ROMs and that didn't help.
I have been wondering if flashing a different radio may help, though i figured it probably is not related to the radio as the calls sound fine on the speaker mode. Have you discovered anything else with your phone?

Unfortunately, nothing has changed. I've accepted the fact that I can only use my phone on speakerphone. The most disappointing part of it is that I can't use voice actions on my phone.

I should also note that since I first notice this issue, I also noticed my phone slow to detect the charger after plugging it in. Instead of it being to charge almost immediately after plugging it in, it take about 10-15 seconds before it detects it. This problem persisted even after replacing the micro usb component.

Bluetooth Audio Problems

Is anyone else having problems with Bluetooth Audio on Kitkat. Mine glitches quite oftemn with my Sony MW600 headphones and also my Bose Soundlink 2 Speaker, I didn't notice it before KitKat? I have also tried the Headset-Bluetooth-Fix_CWM but no change really?
Any solutions out there? anyone else using similar Hardware to mine without problems?

Hi,
I also have all sorts of problems with bluetooth, but I have not been able to find a good fix. To me it seems like issues with 4.4.2 and not specifically the Galaxy Note II. Looking at a LG forum, some guys adviced that switching off WIFI seemed to help. I have tried it out for one of my problems (microphone on BT headset stopping in the middle of a phone call), and it actually seemed to help. You could try it out.
Initially I thought it was issues with a Sony SBH-52 headset, but now that I also have issues (though different) with a Jabra Play, I have come to the conclusion that it must be the phone (software).
I am in contact with my local Samsung support team, and trying to see if they want to take the phone in for service.
Good luck!

Microphone phone not working.

Hi,
I just bought a used wifi 32gb Note 10.1 sm-p600. I've tried a few different programs to test the mic and none will pick up sound(s-note, google voice search, video recording). When I play back recordings and crank up the volume, I hear hissing and thats it. Is there anything i can do/try to get this resolved?
Thanks!
I did a factory reset on it yesterday and still haven't got the Mic to function. Anyone got any ideas for me to try? Thanks!

If your system is unaltered, it sounds like a hardware problem. I use my Note 10 with Skype no problem (pretty poor microphone quality, but it definitely works).

Note 2 GT N7100 Mic Problem

Hey everyone. My note 2 gas given me many troubles, first the chip EMMC failed. I created a thread explaining the situation. Bootloop, recovery failed, etc. So I bought a phone that had a broken screen. I replaced the motherboard and everything was going fine but cellular signal was failing, I gave it back to the owner. (I also created a thread about it).
Now, I bought another phone with the broken screen. So I replaced the motherboard one more time. Everything works ok, cellular signal, wifi, camera (both front and back camera), wifi, speakers, etc. But I have a trouble with the microphone. When I'm on a phone call I can hear people but people can't hear me, unless I use the speaker then they can hear me. I suppose that the mic from the top of the phone is the one that is working when the speaker is turned on.
I've done some reading, and there are many solutions, cleaning the mic, factory reset, installing other ROM,etc. The mic isn't the problem. I tried the mic of my note 2 and the other mic too. The problem is present with both mics. (Both phones are the same variant by the way, GT N7100 international version).
The phone is on 4.1.2 Jellybean, I'm thinking on update to 4.3 first via Odin, if problem is still not solve then upgrade to 4.4 kit Kat via Odin as well. If problem persist, then flash a recovery via Odin and then install a custom ROM 5.1.1 and if the mic problem still not solved then flash a 6.0.1 custom ROM.
I don't know what else I should do concerning this issue. Any advices? Or solutions? Has anyone had this very same issue?
The mic doesn't work at all, I tried video recording and the only mic that works is the top one, not the bottom one. Voice recording doesn't work as well. Headphones does work. If I unplugged the headphones while having a phonecall the bottom mic still isn't working.
Hope you could give any advice or solutions! Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my English skills.
Did you try moving the swapping out the USB fix cable between both phones?
I doubt that it's a software problem because I have not come across a situation where a mic does not work on a particular stock rom.

Yes I did. Problem still there. I also did a factory reset. I'm thinking that at least one of those mics are working OK. I mean, it would be really really bad luck having the 2 microphone malfunctioning. My microphone was working fine before the EMMC chip crashed. After I replaced with other motherboard with no cellular signal it was working fine as well. This motherboard tho everything is working fine but both microphones.
Yes, that is weird. Maybe you need a new mic? That might be the cheapest solution.
