[Q] LG G Pad 8.3 GPE Case - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
Got my LG G Pad 8.3 GPE a few weeks ago and really starting to love it. However, I'm having a hard time finding a case (available in the US) that I like. I was wondering if you guys could make some suggestions. The ones I've seen on the forum so far haven't really fit the bill or are not available in the US. I have a toddler running around. She doesn't use it but she has grabby hands, something I'm sure many of you are familiar with. I'm not looking for an otterbox but I would like it to cover the screen and provide a little impact protect from short drops (mostly on carpet). Thanks

I just received this one the other day and am loving it. http://www.amazon.com/Smart-Cover-Edition-Tablet-Function/dp/B00GSK46D8
The magnet is solid, stand function works well and is stable, the tablet fire beautifully and the cutouts are perfectly placed... Even around the speakers.
Oh yes and the sleep function works well (smart cover)
My two cents.

Samsung Bluetooth Keyboard Case

Hi guys. I am really interested in buying one of these.
http://www.dodgybastards.co.nz/bluetooth-keyboard-case-for-10-1-galaxy.html
I was wondering if any of you guys own this? If anyone does would you mind giving me your opinion on this case?
There seem to be next to no reviews of this case out there whereas there are a lot of reviews about the zagg and Logitech cases. Unfortunately those brands oonly sell cases for ipad here in new zealand. Thanks
I own this and am quite happy with it. Looks good and the keyboard is a joy to type on.
Two things I'm not very happy about are weight (unavoidable, I guess) and, mostly, that there is no way to use it with the tab in portrait mode. Oh, and I think it is a tad too expensive.
I would have bought the Logitech, if only I could. For the portrait mode. But I don't at all regret having bought the Samsung.
You can see the thing in action on Youtube (mind you, in Italian). I was going to post the link but, as a new user, I can't. Search for "Tastiera originale Samsung per Galaxy Tab 8.9 e 10.1"

thanks for your reply mate, really appreciate it. yeh its a tad expensive isnt it, thats why I wanted some opinions before buying it. I never use my tablets in potrait mode, unless I am reading a comic which is very rare. the 10.1 just looks silly in potrait if you ask me lol
Also, I usually prefer to have it on my lap rather than on desks, does the stand sit stable on laps? because the stand kinda looks weak and unstable. I know it'll be fine on desks and tables but does it slide around when in your lap?
The stand is indeed very flimsy. OK for a table or desk, provided we don't push or pull the keyboard. As for a lap, I hadn't even considered it. Well, I just tried and... no. Absolutely not.
It is sort of possible to forget about the stand and leave the tablet flat. Requires one hand to hold it or it will hit the floor in no time. Not practical at all.
After I bought the Samsung case, I saw a Logitech look-alike on Amazon UK. I wouldn't really risk buying one now because: 1) I already own a very nice keyboard case, and 2) the only sellers offering it have appalingly low ratings. Still, if it works as advertised and one could find a reputable source...
Again, no links. But try searching for "Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Aluminum Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab10.1"...

I got one from Amazon real nice Fuax lwther with built in Bluetooth Keyboard. I paid $47.95 plus shipping about a month ago but just went to get the link and its on sale for $39.95.
this works perfectly.

hey thanks for the link bro. I've owned similar cases for other tablets before and I really dont like the rubber keyboards on them.
oh and I went ahead and bought the samsung keyboard dock instead of the keyboard case. the dock is great. since it has got the 30 pin connector, the tab slots right in and you dont have to worry about it falling. and most importantly the dock sits stable on my lap and I can type just like a normal laptop. it doesnt move around. I really like it
omg that one is too expensive dude..
maybe you can check Apple bluetooth Keyboard.. quite good man. it's light, good materials and 100% compatible.
Logitech bluetooth keyboard is a very good choice aswell.
good luck bro.
I have the Zagg case and it is pretty great. I also have the Samsung white keyboard which is almost perfect except that it will revert to the Samsung on screen keyboard after using it . This is a pain since I use touchpal.
The new OEM keyboard case looks handsome but not as useful as Zagg.

Yes, it can. There's four little rubber stops that keep the keys off the screen when closed that double as feet when fold the keyboard under the way you described. And while yes, it's pricey, it's the slimmest, best fitting, and best made of the keyboard cases out there.
I purchased the official case cover a few days ago from Samsung. I am shocked about how few reviews there have been online. I could not find a decent video review. I am hoping that the build quality is decent, as my Zagg keyboard (Zaggfolio) broke - the space bar no longer works. I will probably take the replacement keyboard they sent me and sell it on ebay.
By the way, I saved 15% by using the coupon code: Samsung#1 on the Samsung.com website and got free next day air shipping.

Here is my review of the Samsung OEMKeyboard case.
Pro's
Very light, form fitting, well designed. Easy to type on.
Con's
No touchpad, no sd port, no built in battery, pretty expensive, cannot really use effectively in the portrait mode.
Overall, this is clearly superior to the Zaggfolio. .. but pales in comparison to the Asus Transformer keyboard (which is the same MSRP).

Just got this case today and I must say I am completely happy with this purchase.
It literally turns your tablet into a laptop.
Duqjag complains about not having a touch pad however the entire screen is a touch pad which would make a little square panel obsolete and difficult to use.
My only quarms with this keyboard is the left shift key being so small that you'll find yourself with a lot of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ on your screen when trying to capitalize a letter.
Also if there were a way to make certain trigger keys customizable this would enhance the experence too. e.g. the mail button opens the mail app as opposed to the google mail app. Internet button opens the stock browser as opposed to Opera or dolphin.
It stands up on almost every surface without issue and if you fold the keyboard over it also acts as a bottom panel to keep the screen in a face up position.
Vertically it doesnt work but do laptops????
Fork out the cash I say and enjoy the ride. As tablets get better internally, 10.1 will still be a dimension samsung keeps using so i can confidentally say that this case will be transferable to newer models.
Hi,
I've got the Samsung BT-Keyboard-Case here in Germany for a really affordable price - 57,- €, and it is worth every cent. The look and feel of the case is noble, but durable, and when I carry it arround here at my college the I-Thing-users get possessive.
It has a built-in recharable battery which lasts for some 3 days. I use it flipped over as a night stand at my bed, listening to Tune-in radio, I work with it every day, and the cover protects the case perfectly.
The only con is that it doubles the weight of the pure tab, but I really can say that I am happy with it and would always buy it again.
I am looking for keyboard as well, want something nice, shineny neath, but inexpensive. (Not sure it does exist )
Are those aluminum bluetooth keyboard on ebay and amazon so useless? Any suggestion pls.
If i can not find any good review on those no brand keyboard i might have to buy logitech and it costs fortune

So after much searching for "the best armband" ... I believe I have found what I was looking for. There are several options if you go onto Amazon, but they are the generic armbands that don't really appeal to me.
http://www.armpocket.com/i35.html
This is what I ended up going with and it works great. The OGP fits in perfectly.
A few caveats: you won't be able to fit the OGP in with a case on. Also, your status bar and hardware buttons at the bottom are going to be difficult to get to. All of this is easily remedied if you use pie. Even without, I was able to navigate just fine.
If anyone wants to see any pictures of the OGP in this case, I can oblige.

Man purse.

Since I've started using my tablet, it's become an integral part of my life. I find myself wanting to keep it attached to me somehow at all times which led me to consider looking for (for lack of a better word) a man purse for holding tablets.
Here are some I've come across that I like so far. What are your thoughts?

this one is a bit bigger than I'd like, but I'd share it with you all anyways.

here is another one I just found. A reviewer said that it's not good for a tablet, but I'm wondering if it's because it wouldn't fit because it looks like it could hold the note 10.1 2014.

Here is the best men bag you can ever buy. It fits perfect in the back pocket. Many other inside compartments for wallet, knife, keys, mp3 player, charger, etc. Excellent quality. Very light. I Have been using it for a year now.i used to carry my old note 10.1. Can't beat the price for all these options either. Many carry options,on shoulder, over the body like messenger, on hand. Trust me. Buy it, you will Thank me later)

A surplus military map case will work well. I have an UZI branded map case that I got in the 80's. It is the perfect size for a tablet, has three compartments as well as space for pens and a few other things. It is a bit more manly than a murse.

I think a Filson Field Bag is probably as manly as you can get (my grandfather always used their gun cases) they come in great waterproof and wool materials, and are US made. Cost a bit, but then we have rather expensive tablets don't we.

[Q] Am I the only one not feeling "premium" build?

I hope I don't get flamed too much, but I have been wrestling over which tablet to keep, the Gpad (LGE) or the Nexus 7 (2013). I really want to keep the Gpad, I like the added features that LG included (tap on, etc), better colors, larger screen, IR remote, but when I pick up and use it, I just feel like it is way more flexible and not as "solid" feeling as much as the N7 is. I am okay with the sound quality being sucky, but I can feel the aluminum back rattle/vibrate when I turn up the volume. I feel like I could just snap the tablet in half with little effort. I can depress the back of the tablet and see the aluminum give way and distort. Am I the only feeling this way?
My wife has an ipad and yes that feels premium and I really think the N7 feels more premium even with the rubbery back.
This is the main issue holding me back with this tablet. I suppose I could have gotten a dud, but I am guessing all of them will feel like this?
Long time lurker, first post. Great site!
I think my n7 feels more premium than my g pad.

Agree completely. Who really cares unless you're going to use the device naked and most people don't. I have a Galaxy S3 phone. Some people make a big deal about the plastic back, but I never see it because it's always in a TPU case. Really, people obsess things that don't really matter.
I usually always use my devices naked. When I put cases on my devices, it just takes away from the small profile. Even with the thinnest TPU case, adds bulk and in my opinion, makes a difference. I would consider a bumper only case to protect the edges, but those are only available for the most popular devices.
Also, I have no problem with plastic builds as long as they are solid. The flex of the gpad is what really bugs me.
Short answer to topic - yes, you are the only one that doesn't feel it is premium

I'm surprised that you think that the N7 is more solid than the G Pad. I find the N7 to be very drab and unattractive. In fact, the design and build quality are the weakest features of the N7. The G Pad, on the other hand, looks more attractive and feels good in the hand. I haven't noticed any particular flexibility in the G Pad, but a device this thin and light would have to be made out of solid titanium not to have some flex.
When I first picked up the 8.3 at Best Buy, my first thought was "This is a beautiful and well built device". After owning it for 5 days now, I feel even stronger about the quality and beauty. I absolutely love it.
It's built as good as any tablet.I don't know what people want? it's a tablet not a car

i agree with you
I like samsung tablet build quality, i like lg g pad build quality, i like apple tablet build quality... they're all same
It's just you.
I had a black one and the color white was yellowish. And when i grabbed the gpad the back sort of squezzed touching the inner screen. I hated that so got a white and now i dont have the two issues. Go exchange it.
If you're talking about build quality, I'd say both the N7 and the G Pad are on par with each other. The G Pad has an aluminium backing but the N7 is no less solid without it. However, if you're talking about design, I'd say the G Pad wins hands down, but then this is subjective and comes down to a matter of taste. If you prefer the N7 then keep that (although I get a feeling you'll regret it after awhile if you ever came across a G Pad again).

Just today I ordered from Newegg a black LG G Pad 8.3 and found this case on Amazon. I have one like it for my (now inoperable) Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 and like it so much I wanted to get one for the new tablet. I'm interested in seeing how it works, especially in portrait mode because that's primarily how I use mine.
Let's see who posts a video first...
I'd probably get to it around Wednesday.

I think I got the same case as you from AliExpress. However, the part that holds the case is very poorly molded for me, especially the corners.
Can you take some photos of the corners?
I had a similar case for my htc flyer and the circular rotational part ended up wearing a ring onto the back of the tablet. Does it look like this may cause a similar issue?
I've had the case for a few days now but just received the tablet that goes into it. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take photos today, but I should tomorrow.
I did, however, put the tablet into the case. Initially, it didn't seem very secure. But I forgot to put a microSD card into the tablet, so I had to remove the tablet from the case. It was way more secure coming out than it felt going in. I'm not worried about protection. (That paragraph would border on pornographic if I weren't talking about a tablet and its case).
The angles of the case seem like they'll be fine. I usually use just the shallow angle, and it didn't seem tippy. As for the ring in back, I had a similar case on my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and there was no wear on the tablet, just a ring of dirt from me putting my index finger in there when holding the tablet. I would imagine the same will happen with the G Pad.
I'll have a more thorough write up tomorrow. And photos.
Sent from my Verizon LG G2 using Tapatalk
The case is more imbalanced than I thought it would be when using the G Pad in portrait mode. I guess I'll have to get used to using it in landscape mode...
The plastic "tray" the Pad clips into seems to be covered (not molded, but actually covered) with the same material as the front, which leads to some irregularities in finish. You can see these areas around the corners, which I've included in the photos. But these areas don't interfere with the fit of the case -- they actually might help it be more secure as you have to pull the Pad out past these small "lumps."
The ring on the back features a stationary plastic ring around which the cover rotates. The cover fits loosely, the ring fits tightly. I am not at all concerned about wear and tear in this are, just fingerprints and dirt (which you can already see in the photos).
The case's cutouts are fine, revealing the parts you need access to and covering the rest.
Overall, the case seems worth the money. But I might look around for a similar one that is more stable when using the Pad in portrait mode.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have.
I could only attach four photos in that last reply. Here are the rest.
Again, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
This case is available all over ebay, and I got mine yesterday ("New Folio 360° Rotating Leather Case Cover For LG G Pad" item 131079877700
sold by super8shopping).
Magnetic on/off feature works perfectly. Great protection of screen (when closed) and all corners. Works nicely as a stand for landscape, but fairly unstable as a stand in portrait. $13.50USD, and I'm very pleased with it. :victory:
Mine is listed as brown, although it's a very light brown:
I don't like this case's instability in portrait mode, so I ordered one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000CKVOOY/
It looks much more stable and can be configured to work with other devices. I'll keep you posted.
