[Q] Nexus 7 Performance Issues? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hello, I have read that many Nexus 7 devices (ever since the first model) experience significant slow down after a year of use. I'm considering buying one, and would like to know if this issue has ever been addressed or if anyone could give me personal input?

I've had my 2012 Nexus 7 since launch day, and had no issues with slow down over time. My new N7 is obviously even faster.

I have two original Nexus 7's..…a 16gb and a 32gb and I have not noticed any slow down in either one.

That issue was rectified with 4.3 when TRIM support was added.

Mine as fast as day one. 3 months old

When you pull your head out of your ass and use the search button.
A couple of weeks after the announcement at Google I/O so that would make it early june.(Or maybe july given that the nexus 4 is probably first in line now)

Umm try hitting refresh in the system update menu. It should be there. Its amazing btw.
A couple weeks after Google I/O in May. Perhaps Mid-June to Early July. It might be 5.0 or 4.3 but I'm betting on 4.3.

The level of maturity here is ridiculous. The guy/gal probably just wants to know if any info has come forward about a release date, they probably don't even know about google i/o, but you guys run off making stupid remarks, would it kill you to just say, no info on it at this time.
Galaxy nexus won't even get official android 5 so don't even bother asking for a release date, whenever the new nexus phone comes out near end of 2013 around october maybe is when android 5 will come out, so you got a few more months to wait yet even if you get the new nexus.

Galaxy Nexus Dual-Core Performance

Hey guys. I'm thinking about buying a new android phone. I have to chose between Galaxy Nexus, S2 and Htc SeNSATION.
I want to for Galaxy Nexus. but I'm wondering which will be the best for me.
I will use the phone mostly for gaming.
Which one should I choose ?? S2 has better performance for gaming but there is a big difference between it and GalaxyNexus, should I trade the little performance for the HD Display ?

Google would never abandon their baby. They're practically like a lioness, left the Nexus S to wander and grow on its own and will come back for it when KLP comes out. As for 5.0? Sammy and HTC can kiss updates goodbye, permanently. Those would probably never see the light of it.

GNex for sure
Reason: Its a Nexus device okay?
i'd agree that the Galaxy Nexus is the best choice among those 3, and the only one that will see 5.0/KLP. i will say that the processor is showing its age a little bit, but i'm not the biggest TI fan.
No brainer bro, get the GN! Heck, I'll sell you mine. Just got a brand new one from Verizon cuz my old one's charging point went out (2 years old).

Anyone who claims to have an answer to this is purely speculating. No one knows whether the GNex will see 5.0 or not. I hope yes... but after the Nexus One got abandoned, I'm not so sure the GNex will see 5.0
nexus s was abandoned already with android 4.1 (maybe because of 512 mb ram?)
so we already lucky to get 4.3
I don't have so much expectations to get 5.0..google is focusing a lot on nexus 4 / 7 / 10 ...our gnex is 2 years old, and the gpu is 3 years old, it's not slow, but useless to support..this is my thinking..we will see when 5.0 come out
Hey man, I'm interested in The Gnex, Do you think its still worth buying it? If so, i think youve got alot of knowledge, and im stuck with a galaxy Y, i want to change. Will the nexus be a good choice now? In Mid 2013? And if i get it, how long can it last with me being bored of it?

It was abandoned because 4.2 introduced the multi-user /0 folders. The Nexus S would need a full wipe (sd included) and they didn't want to push it out due to this. If it wasn't required to full wipe it during the OTA, it would've gotten it officially.

Why are you guys telling the OP that the Gnex will get 5.0? Nexus devices only have 2 years of support.
As far as Google support, the Galaxy Nexus will get 4.3.X and no further. It's up to the community to put 5.0 on it.

Hello,
Is it the New Nexus 7 released in 2013?
If yes, I am not even aware it is available yet although I did read in the news that a man from China got it by mistake while shipping it from USA.
Do not tell me that you are that guy
Well, if you have the old model, Nexus 7 2012, then you have posted this in the wrong thread.
If you have the new Nexus 7, It depends that you can run custom roms or not. No one has seen the binaries or flash images for the New Nexus 7 so I can not say it might work or not. You might have to take the risk if you still want to try.
Also, I think unless LTE is integrated with some system files, you will be cool to go and not be able to use communications but that is still highly unlikely because from the old Nexus 7 LTE model, I know the source binaries were quite different.
You can even hard brick your device.
My advice, enjoy the LTE till it is official.
I work for a mobile company in the UK. So I have a final test one. A nexus 2013 LTE.

Can you make a nandroid of that rom beforehand and upload it?
(I would recommend against using TWRP for the moment as it has a lot of issues with nandroids, there seem to be a working CWM at the moment)

Probably never will make any voice calls, they so far go on overlaid 3g networks due to lots of upgrades required in the backhaul. Voip, ie. CSipSimple, is the way to go. And you will need a headset.
The Phone App is in the filesystem but doesn't show in the ui.
I'm hoping this will be different as it uses a different chip than the nexus 7 3g(2012)
The 2013 N7 LTE should be using a APQ8064-1AA + MDM9615A + WTR1605L,
which is very similar to the APQ8064 + MDM9615A + WTR1605L on the N4.
While it might be (hypothetically) possible for it to do so in hardware, it could still be disabled.
Both the N4 and 2013 N7's wifi/bt chips also support fm radio at the silicon level, but it's disabled at the chip level.
The LTE on the N4 is disabled at the firmware level (as the lte mod is due to leftover code, if it were not for that it doesnt have LTE period)
It could have voice calls disabled at the silicon level, chip level, firmware level, or rom level, since they can easily spec modems that have broken voice call support since it's not used in the first place.

New Nexus 7 - Stable ?

Hi Friends,
I need to buy a 7'-8' tablet and being a fan of nexus, started with nexus 7 2013 32GB(22K) vs Samsung tab 3 T311(24K) and budget is ~25K (india)
But could see lot of forums pointing to random issues in new nexus 2013 device. I couldn't see any other helpful place to ask this question apart from XDA friends
Will rooting solve rebooting, hanging, touch issues in nexus 2013 device ? or can you suggest some other stable tablets in 25K range ?
Please putforth your suggestions friends.
PS: I am getting this tablet for my Parents/Brother and I want it to be stable mostly used for skype, heavy gaming and browsing. Thanks in advance
The touch issues have not been solved yet 100%. There are workarounds for it, but nothing that fixes it across the board. I have not had hanging issues, or rebooting at all with mine. Rooting will not solve the touch issues.
My Nexus 7 is stable.

I have a 2013 nexus 7 and have never had any hangingnor reboot issues. It seems that every once in a while I have the touch issues but it seems to get a little better as they update software.... I think it may be a hardware issue but they are just using software work arounds... All in all I love this tablet and wouldn't trade it for any other device. BTW it seems when I have a ROM like cyanogen installed the touch issues seem to disappear....

What kind of touch issues you're talking about? Does it occurs on every device or random?
Never seen any touch issues on mine. If there are any, it does not affect my use of the tablet. I don't use mine for gaming, so that might be a difference.

Anyone still using CleanROM?

Hi, I've been a happy Nexus 7 user, but when I saw the Tab Pro 8.4 at Best Buy yesterday for $279, I took the plunge. (It also happened to be my birthday.) CleanROM has been great on the Nexus, but I know that scrosler isn't working on the Tab Pro one anymore. There are some other interesting ROMs to try, but I'm curious to see if CleanROM is still working out well for its users here.
Thanks for any input.

It had a few issues as I remember. The developer wasn't interested in sticking around so it hasn't been supported or updated to latest firmware.
