[Q] Problem with Galaxy S4 MP4 playback on other devices - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I recorded a video using my Samsung Galaxy S4.
The .mp4 plays back fine on the S4, but stutters on just about every device I try to play it back on.
Audio seems fine, but video freezes periodically on playback on those devices.
Is there something about the S4's .mp4 recording format that I need to change?

i have tried the frames and lots of stuff but 720p noway!
I had the same problem after updating to official german vodafone froyo. As it seems to me, there are missing some files for 720p playback. Please take a look to this: Froyo 720p Playback
I downloaded the lib.zip from first post and added all MISSING files to /system/lib and /system/lib/dsp. I did not replace the existing libOMX.TI.Video.Decoder.so and libOMX.TI.Video.encoder.so. So far, 720p playback is pretty good again
Hope this helps!

Video bitrate

Still didn't find out what bitrate 720/1080p videos are shot at.....can someone please reply or even better upload somewhere a 5-10sec unedited sample?
thx!
Go ahead and post a panorama shot also, curious what max dimensions they have now in sense 4.
This would certainly be interesting, I would also like to know if photos can be saved in raw so they can be edited in Photoshop and if the jpeg compression is adjustable, allowing 0% compression?

Very unlikely, and what would even be the point of an uncompressed JPEG (the whole point is it's a compressed format.)

photos are actually captured RAW and passed over to the Imagesense processor which converts them to JPEG.
so output is always JPEG, maybe someone will figure out how to bypass the processor and output RAW...
didn't anyone shoot a damn video with the thing in 2 days and can post here some numbers?

that's impossible! 1080p @ 5mbps and 21 fps?!?!!!!
what are the values for 720p?
The videos are horrible. It totally looks like 5mbit/s
I have neer ever seen such horrible phone videos
I think someone at HTC screwed up with the videos, expect as fix soon.
I also noticed that the software version is pretty low for a retail device (1.26) Usually release versions are > 1.3 or 1.4

you got these values while shooting in bright daylight?
usually bitrate drops when in lowlight, noticed that on my old Sensation, but never dropped to 5mbps while at it....
can someone else please test and post some mediainfo screenshots?
some guys with the One S got
- 10mbps @ 28fps
- 7.5mbps
maybe there is a catch between the phones' sensor/software after all...i remember seeing a thread where same picture taken with both X and an S looked different...

I saw a thread like that too, and the S looked much worse, which was clearly due to either a poorly-mounted sensor or a decentered lens element.
AFAIK, they both have the same lens and sensor. There is no reason the S would have better video, so you can pretty-much guarantee this whole thing is just another storm in a teacup...

unless it is CPU related... or maybe this is the software bug that is making HTC delaying reviews from getting posted..

There's pretty much zero chance it's CPU-related, and no, I don't believe it's the bug, either. Occam's Razor; simplest explanation. It's either user error on the part of the one person who reported a lower bit rate, or simply a difference caused by their settings and/or shooting conditions. I'd be willing to place money that both phones record in basically identical bitrates in the same conditions.
524 views and still no 1080p sample that we can dissect
come on guys...can someone shoot a 10sec sample in bright daylight?
FYI, two sample videos--presumably out-of-camera--are now available from mobile-review.com's Russian-language version.
NOTE: THESE ARE STATED TO BE SHOT WITH PRE-PRODUCTION FIRMWARE. Both seem to show significant frame dropping, for me, although I've yet to open them in Premiere Pro and try stepping through frames...

ok it's official...bitrate blows for a 2012 flagship phone.
From Engadget review:
"The One X captures 1080p video at a silky smooth 30fps with continuous autofocus and stereo audio. Results mostly look sharp and sound clear -- we noticed some faint video compression artifacts (bitrate is 10Mbps) and the automatic gain control reacted a little too quickly to wind noise, but this is nothing to be concerned about in most situations. In contrast with how quickly the camera handles stills, there's about a four-second (!) delay between tapping the on-screen video capture button and the actual start of the recording which means you're likely to miss some firsts if you're not prepared. There's one more neat trick worth mentioning, and that's slow motion. Yes, this shooter is able to record 480p widescreen video (768 x 432 pixels, to be exact) at 60fps for playback at about 24fps"
hmm, can anyone please download and install the ICS Camera+ application, enable the 2x bitrate option and post results?
afaik it doesn't modify the mediaprofiles.xml but takes whatever it's in there and doubles the value in-app! So you should immediately see an improvement at 20mbps for 1080p.
come on guys, do us sitting (for now) on the sidelines a big favor
I got the htx one x and the video is horrible jerky and low fps and low bitrate... hope they will fix this soon!
Why can't HTC get these things right? All of the cameras in all of their phones have been disappointing especially when it comes to video. A reason to pass this phone by.
Come on Samsung..hurry up with that S3 will ya!
One with default camera, one with ICScamera+(notice purple error).
Default
ICS camera+
Is video recording so important to you that you will wait several months to get the S3?

Probably not what you want to hear, but you'll save yourself a LOT of aggro by encoding it to something more usable, or downloading it as such.
convert it to mkv, play with stock vid player
BS Player seems to do better with files it has to use the SW renderer on than MX player in my experience, you can try that to see if it helps at all.
Thanks for the tip. BS Player was much better than MX player. I had no need to encode again.

[Q] 4k - UHD video playback on SGTS

Hi everybody,
I have a question.... I have a Galaxy Note 3 and I have recorded some videos in 4k to see how they work on my new Galaxy tab S
but the stock video player can't open these videos and the only player on the market that runs these videos is MX player but the video frame rate is poor and the audio is out of sync....
Could you tell me a video player or a way to convert UHD video from my Note 3 to the Galaxy Tab S ?
Thanks
SGTS can neither record nor play 4k videos as its not a 4k tablet.
The SGTS can't record UHD and It can't play 1:1 4K video ... and this is obvious because its screen is not UHD ... but My question was:
There is a way to play smoothly UHD video with this tablet? with a specific player or with a converter (pc side)

How does that work then? My Note 3 is not UHD and it plays the 4k videos it records just fine, at a lower resolution obviously

"it doesn't play 1:1 4K" means exactly what you have wrote... The display of Note 3 is "only" Full Hd ..and the SGN3 downscales the UHD content to the native panel resolution... I think... or I Wish that SGST could use the same way with 4K / UHD videos... but till today the only player that runs UHD video on SGTS is MX player but the video aren't smooth..
UHD Videos...
The UHD Videos from my S5 worked on my Tab Pro 8.4 but don't work on my Tab S 8.4..... I'm starting to like this tablet less and less..
Playing UHD/4k with Samsung Galaxy Tab S
Before I open a thread with the exact same question I give this one a bump. Spoiler: I managed to play 4k video with Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 chagallwifi T800 with downloaded 4k video samples.
I've recently tried several custom ROMS, some MM, some Nougat to figure out differences. I use mx player, bs player and a noname videoplayer (com.ab.videoplayer). VLC player performed poorly with all ROMs so i'm not using it. The players behave differently. While mx+bs players are somewhat identical (dropping videoframes while playing audio correct), the noname video player drops video frames (stutter) but plays audio correctly.
The source video+audio codec also matters. Only some UHD material plays spotless while the size of the media stream is comparable. I was able to audit + tweak CPU+GPU performance to max with deadly audiutor. Tweaking would not make much difference. I observed CPU+GPU would not stress to 100% even without tweaking. So what would be the reason for dropping frames in audio or video? In the windows world I would look for the codecs the material was coded in and search for a capable player. In android the functionality of players is not so well documented. So maybe the wise can figure, what the reason for poor 4k performance is or rather give tips how to avoid it.

8.4" 10.1" HEVC H.265 codec does it play these video`s

Hi.
According to the Samsung website the 8.4" and 10.1" will play the new HEVC H.265 video`s that have the same quality but only half the file size, the 12.2" does not seem to show HEVC H.265 in it` specifications.
Does anybody know, Can you play 1080p HEVC H.265 video files without stuttering?
I have the Tab S 10.5" with the same Exynos 5 Octa 5420 but the stock Samsung video player only gives me an blank screen but the audio play`s
Thanks
John.
Snapdragon 800 not support h265. Only 801+
Lollipop is supposed to include a codec to allow HEVC H.265 to be decoded by software, I just wanted to know if the stock player plays them, but the Samsung specs only mentions the Exynos 5 Octa 5420 which does not have HEVC H.265 hardware support so software decoding would have to be used.

I do not know how to CM12.1, but CM11 brake 1080p h265. I waiting for 5.1.1 from Samsung)
Yes please, can anyone with an Exynos Tab Pro check if it can play H265 1080p videos and tell if there are frame drops or if it's smooth?
I've a Tab S 10.5 too with the same Exynos 5420 used on the Tab Pro, the specs on the Samsung website report the Tab Pro as capable while the Tab S spec don't.
I'm curious to know if there's an error on the specs or if Samsung missed to include the codecs just on the Tab S.
Sent from my SM-T805 using XDA Free mobile app
The Exynos 5420 while it does not support HEVC H.265 hardware decoding, it does support openGL which can be used to hardware decode HEVC video`s giving smooth 1080p HEVC H.265 videos that are only half the size of current H.264 MP4 video`s while it has the same quality.
An company called Ittiam, supposedly been working with Samsung to bring HEVC hardware decoding to the Exnos 5420 ARM Mali T628 GPU via openGL and it is supposedly supported by Lollipop.
Can somebody running lollipop see if an 1080p HEVC plays with the MX Player and the Samsung stock video player, and see if they play without stuttering.
Thanks
John.
If I remember well, Ittiam is using OpenCL not OpenGL.

What SOC are you using, as the 5420 does not support HW HEVC decoding, unless it`s the new codec that uses opencl to give hwdecoding
Did i tell you the only HEVC 1080p video i tried was Humans, is that an coincidence or what.

I do not know how to check that the OpenCL?
No need all soc in the last couple of years support opencl but for it to be able to decoded hevc it needs an special codec, does the Samsung stock video player play hevc video`s on your t320 or only MX Player.
