i´ve to ask the global z1 compact users about the build quality of the devices.
My first device from amazon.de had a crackling sound while pressing the area of the micro SIM card slot - amazon did an instand replace but the replacement unit also started with this issue on day after set up. I think this is not a general fault but i´m a bit angry with this issue on such an premium device.
Can you hear anything when pressing this area? what do you think about that? Will you recharge?
I´ll hope that this is not a problem for water resistance...thinking about the Z in the first times...loosing back panel...
I have this too. It's just a little flexing of the phone frame and I'm not too fussed about it. Actually hadn't noticed it until you pointed out out.

Mine also does this, but you have to apply more force than I'm comfortable with in order to get any sound

Same here. I had to squeeze quite hard. Should not be a problem as long as you don't use your phone as a jackstand under a car.

My 10 days old Compact have the same issues. It squeaks when I press it with light force around the edge between the micro sdcard slot and magnetic charging port.
However, the most concerning part is a loose gap between the back side plastic rim join to the metal frame below the magnetic charging port. It is large enough I can fit by finger nail into, and I can see the gap closing by pressing on the metal frame. Normally I would not care so much, but for a water proof phone this is alarming.
Overall, the design of the Compact is poor compared to the Z1. The Z1 never flex or squeaks no matter how much pressure I apply. Also the plastic rim sits inside the metal frame rather than glued on top like the compact.
My screen cracks when I press on the center. Anyone else?

Mine does the same around the magnetic port... i think maybe its because of the Double sided "tape" that insures the water proofing between the alu and the plastic rim..
Mine has a light gap between plastic back and metal frame(about 1/10mm or less, noticeable only after a very maniacal and close inspection)from micro sd slot to micro sim slot.
The back is not perfectly flat, but isn't a metal frame bending: if placed face down on a table the entire screen touch the surface, leaving face up the corner next micro sim does not touch the surface (barely noticeable: 1/10mm or less). The phone remains waterproof (at least totally submerged on 10cm of water).
Maybe there are few minimal tolerance using flexible material as polycarbonate back, when placed on direct contact of a non-so-flat thing as a battery.
Li-po and li-ion battery doesn't have a surface totally flat, specially on the borders and edges: there are frequently minimal differences and all phones with removable battery have a small gap between battery door and battery filled with some lining to compensate. On Z1 Compact teardown we can se the battery on direct contact of policarbonate rear.
Attenction: this i not a defective battery: a damaged lipo has central rise of several mm not a lateral of 1/10 - 1/20 mm; on side there are simply the "bend" of aluminium sheet and the adhesive label encasing the li-po cell.
The phone works well, looks great and retain the water proof capability.

Test the impermeability (with the support of a video camera to certify the perfect closing of ports flaps), and if phone retains the waterproof capability you can seal the gap with a application of semiliquid black rubber. Do you have sent the phone to Sony for a replacement? I have sent to Italian support team a mail with some photo (my phone retains the impermeability...or at least is survived to a 2 min submersion and there are no trace of water on humidity sensors presents under connectors ).
If Sony certify this issue as cosmetic only I'll close the gap with rubber.

I've recently bought a DEFY. It works quite brilliantly and very fast.
I've noticed that the USB rubber cover of my DEFY is not very firm when closed. There is a little seam between it and the phone body, and the seam grows a bit thicker as it approaches the USB port side. I've included some pics of it.

When I close mine I am careful to press it in firmly as otherwise it looks "not quite shut." It has to squeeze in there. I presume this what's suppose to keep water out and as I have dunked my phone countless times without incident. However, if you think yours is twisted or bulging when seated, I don't think that's right.
Mine doesn't have that small hump when in place. I think there is some extra rubber under the clip.

yeah mines got that, you get the bump when the cover gets bent the other way when you move it to get the usb cable in
After charging mine looks like it will stay with the bulge like that when I put the cover back in place, but even so, I can press it firmly, and it actually snaps into place. Sort of even has a clicking sound. I only started noticing this as before I would press it in even, and the bulge would stay there for a while and slowly smooth itself out, but now if I press it in, and then press my thumb/finger all the way around the cover, it snaps into place very tightly.
EDIT - After looking closely at mine I see the hole is actually at an angle, so pressing it in straight would leave it with the bulge. You need to press it against the angle of the phone for it to snap into place.

I did get a slight feel of "snap in". Just dunked it shortly into water, and it still lives!
So I guess it's all right.
I get some moisture around the USB plug hole even when the cover is in place as well. Probably not a big deal. You can try using some grease to improve the seal as well.

One review notes a small amount of "O-ring" sealant or grease around the battery cover rim. I supposed you could add a little. Just don't use vasoline, that's a pertroleum product and will degrade certain types of real and synthetic rubber.
Hey guys
So I have had my Z for 2 weeks and love it for the most part…faster and a crap load more enjoyable than the X10 it replaced. I am having some hardware issues however and was curious if I am alone on this one or others have had the same issue.
The hinge has become pretty loose now and the phone flops open regardless of what side I hold it from but in reality that is somewhat moot as who holds their phone from just one side lol?
The real issue I am having recently is the 6 little rubber stop pads on the underside of the screen’s left side/edge. Now there are 2 thicker rectangular stop pads on the right side’s corners adhered to the phones main body and the 6 little rubber pads on the left are attached to the screen and are there to compensate for the opposite rectangular pads so that the phone has both a buffer and a balance between sides so it sits flush, quiet, and secure.
Well somehow or for some reason those little 6 in a row rectangular pads have either pushed in too far to their respective channel or they have flattened via not regained their density/thickness as now they are flush with the screen’s underside and as a result leave a gap. So when I push, even lightly, on the center to left of the screen is makes a physical and audible click as it teeters down to touch the keyboard underneath and the right side compensates by lifting up and off the 2 corner rubber pads. Essentially the phones center area has become a fulcrum and I am sure that is not healthy on the hinge.
Has anyone else had this odd but irritating issue with theirs or am I alone here?
Perhaps I can try to find a thicker pad I can cut up to replace the strip of 6

No sir I'm on with you on this one. I started a thread about the annoying teeter or the screen a few weeks ago, and alot of people have it. I dont think its due to the pads, but more on the face of how the hinge is designed. It makes it so the screen doesn't sit flat enough. I know that they wanted to make the htc vision slim, but it caused some problems.

Thicker pads would remedy it while closed but once opened the thicker pads would not allow the screen to sit flush at the top of the keyboard

well there's some guy who came up with a DIY fix on the dev section (I think) requires a lot of disassembly but looks worth it. I'd try it myself if I had all the right screw bits.

I think that's only the hinge, not the screen. But I'd do it to if i had them.

I noticed that pressing bezel at certain points and battery cover makes a click sound, then I came across a solution for battery cover by one of users here: putting a business card between battery and cover, it works and makes it completely silent.
So I think this space between battery cover and battery and those points on bezel might be noisy/bad implemented solutions to avoid cracks on bezels which are wide spread among Galaxy S2s and S3s (they appear out of nowhere and seem to be due thermal expansion & contraction)... Does anyone agree? Any ideas?

The upper bezel squeacks because of the motion setting.
If you enable and double tap the upper bezel in emails/contact the list will scroll to the top.
You can try just by pressing and not tapping, it still works
Aint working here... only double tap works.
Any other ideas? What about battery cover?
I also have this problem with squeaking battery cover. I have idea that it showed up because of leaving phone in pocket while I tie a shoe and the battery cover gets pressed too hard. Few days back I also noticed that I have very small crack in battery cover that I can feel with nail. Very annoying sound and not impressed with quality Soon I will get cover case for note but if the sound will be there, I will need a replacement battery cover...

I dont think it has anything to do with pressure... I have never put it under any slight pressure and the squeaking was there as long as I remember...
Any new ideas about this issue? I also get some squealing noise when I press batter cover. Tried putting some duct tape, but it is not working, sometimes it even gets worse.

I noticed this because I constantly remove my battery to do a swap and charge it externally. There was another post about this recently that I posted in. I resolved the problem by replacing my bezel/frame. I had some small scratches and a ding on it from my desk so I felt compelled to make it look new. I noticed the small plastic tabs that the battery door connects to are fragile and break off from constant removal of the door.
The bezel was around $20 with a new battery door with NFC, not to mention only taking 15 minutes.

I put a small strip of duct tape on each side of the battery and then when I put the battery back in its spot the fit was quite tight but all my squeaks were gone. The device feels much more solid now.

This is completely normal for the Note 2. After a while the plastic pieces are no longer aligned precisely due to heat, pressure, cheap quality just like korean cars.
Recently i received my Xperia Z1C White. After some careful checking (that happens when you are a techy) i noticed that the frame bends slightly inwards at the back side. I made a small example of what i mean on a photo. The problem is. If you can press those parts of the frame inwards, what happens with the waterproof seal between that part of the frame and the plastic bezel on top of this? Is this the case with every Xperia Z1C or is this a rare problem?
I suspect this also is the reason why you can hear a sound while pressing the screen slightly.

Same on my phone, but only the charging port side, and my phone squeaks too.
Me too - i can also press the frame inward. Oh my god, i´m a bit confused now...lets hope everything is ok and water is no problem for that...
*EDIT* But i have to say that this also is an issue to find on my Z1 !
Had a bit of convex shape on the back, barely noticeable. Hairdryer and pressing did the trick.
And no, don't be too harsh to the phone.
Glue seems to be unequally applicated.
Made in China after all.
I don't know why, but it doesn't seems any problem with my white phone.
I wonder hwo wide spread or problematic this is. On a normal phone this wouldnt be a problem at all. But on a waterproof phone every error can be a problem.
Mine seems to have the same microscopic gap on the back around the docking port.
I dunked it in a bowl of water and let it sit for 5 minutes. Took it out, dried it off - no problems.
The back of mine flexes when pressed hard in the center, but there are no gaps at the edges (even when pressed)
Is this something they'd accept a warranty replacement for? Where do you go about requesting such?

I think no warranty on this, they will probably consider it normal.
The problem with high precision designed devices like this and iphones is, that if something is a bit off you notice it easier.
I do regret it a bit that i didnt exchange it within the 7 days that it is possible to exchange a product after buying it in holland. But if it is widespread, then the case of a phone without the flexing frame/misaligned frame would be very small.
For anyone worried about the waterproof nature of their device, the only thing I can say is - test it. If the product works as intended you're golden. If not, you're covered by warranty.
I'm avid photographer and diver and with all new waterproof equipment, the first thing I do is test their waterproofing by either dunking them in the tub or the sink full of water.
You've bought a device with a capability which you should be able to trust. No need to find out 1 year later when you drop it in the toilet that your device is faulty.

Same here, only a small gap around docking port that can be ever so slightly pressed in under higher-than-normal pressure, never noticed it in every day handling.
Mine keeps pulling hairs out of my beard!

I believe there's a sensor-like surface when you open up one of the flaps (the micro-USB one I think). It's a small white square and it turns red when in contact with water.
This is how the service centres know that you are complying to proper usage. So do be careful not to get the internals wet

I have exchanged mine, still a little flex around the charging port but the back is definitely more flush. No small gap and less cracking noise when pressing the back as well. Very content with the built quality of this phone now.

thats not a defect, mine has it too. its kind of a pry point for servicing
yep same here, didnt even notice it until i just looked.. its a very tiny gap.
Turning the watch upside down I can see a very tiny 6-7 mm wide notch in the steel casing inner groove approx. 3-3,5 mm left and right from the microphone drill. But I can't see any part of the printed circuit board beneath like it is for you. So either the plastic cover has been pasted in blooey or the metal casing is somehow warped.
I have no gap of any kind on mine.

I'm sure it is there for you as well. Hold the watch in an upright position behind a light source with the plastic body plate towards you and the push-button pointing to the ceiling. Now slowly let the watch tilt forward until you reach an approx. 45° angle.

I can assure you without a doubt there is absolutely no gap on my Moto 360. I have looked at it in extreme detail. Mine is from the first production run. It is possible it was added on purpose to newer production units, or it is a tooling mistake and not supposed to be there at all.
