Wifi keeping my HOX awake - HTC One X

After trying variuos ROMs (2 variants of Sense ROMs and this CM11 one) I am still unable to avoid a serious and quite known problem: when connected to Wifi my battery drains fast. After installing BBS I noticed that the phone doesn't go into deep sleep. Something is keeping it awake. The strange thing about this issue is that just a few of the HOX's seem to be affected. I'm curious what do you guys think about it and maybe you have some advices? I really love my HOX, but this is shortening my battery life too much. I'd rather try everything before selling the device. Thank you in advance.

I attached a BBS log. With current settings (location reporting and stuff) if I disable Wifi everything is ok.

P.S. Also tried relocking, reflashing firmware, unlocking then flashing custom ROM but still no luck...

Hi, I had this problem too in history with all my phones. Problem was not on phone, but in WiFi router's settings. Do you have problem only on certail WiFi network or on all WiFi networks? Do you have this problem too when you are not near WiFi (for example in forest...)?

I'm having this problem with my home & office router. Didn't have the chance to test with other routers. I keep wifi on at all times but once the connection to the wifi network is closed, problem is gone. It must be in the software somewhere because my router is way older than the problem. Maybe with the update to JB HTC broke compat with some routers or their settings? Who knows... My wife has the HTC Desire 500 and she doesn't have this issue.

whether it can solve this problem with wifi.
I always shoot and it turns the wifi network.
be a good wifi network signal then disappears
Same problem here
This is a very serious problem. Get ur act together HTC, this is just unacceptable!
Are you rooted? HTC raised the signal strength at which the connection would be dropped, there is a fix if you are rooted, otheewise you are stucm and will have to wait for HTC to correct this.

Have you tried another radio? of course be careful if you do change it
same issue, though htc say that its a "new feature" to provide a seamless mobile broadband experience by automatically chosing the strongest signal. whatever you say htc
i just disable mobile data at home, so it cant jump back to 3g and stays on wifi. the annoying thing with this is that i forget to enable mobile data when leaving the house.
i hope they sort it out, and that this new feature isn't rolled out across their other products
I am having the same problem. At work, my wifi connection is weak, but was always functional. Now, I cannot connect to my work wifi. On top of that, my battery drains twice as fast on my phone, and I'm thinking that it's due to the phone always scanning and trying to connect to the wifi signal. If it's true that HTC changed the level at which the wifi signal is dropped, this was a terrible decision.

I think this may answer/point to the problem I'm having since installing the Gingerbread RUU. I use the quick settings app from the market and pre-gingerbread it used to switch between wi-fi/mobile pretty seemlessly, turning off the unused option. Now if there's no wi-fi connection that option seems to stay on (probably searching) while it's connected to mobile data. As above, my battery is draining like a sieve.

Same problem for me with Original Rom.
so i tried the Revoloution HD 5.1.4 and same problem again!
Hi guys until HTC release an OTA fix (that's if they do) the only way to resolve this is to root and then try some different ROM and radio combinations until you find one that works for you.
I find the ROM and radio from my signature work really well on WiFi but if you are going to do this make sure and root, gain S-OFF and ENG S-OFF. Also make sure you have the correct RIL for the ROM and radio that you are using
There are lots of threads on the dev section that guide you through this.
Wifi connecting
I have a similar problem with wifi connection. Only it doesn't disconnect during a connection but when establishing a wifi connection it takes much longer than it used to on Froyo. Anyone else noticed this?
i have problem too with wifi
I really hope htc has stopped the updates and resumes with a new build with the wifi problem fixed
The issue is with the Gingerbread Sense ROMs.

WiFi problems with routers
Hi there,
Same problem here. Both my WiFi router and phone say signal and reception quality are perfect and connection it stable, but data won't flow.
I'm having this problem with my Speedtouch (WEP key) router at home, whereas a Sitecom router at the office works fine (WPA etc. key).
Tried some work arounds, without success
Regards
***EDIT***
I can add that it has nothing to do with the reported threshold of -88dB signal strength. As I checked that with the *#*#4636#*#* option and both higher and lower values of the WiFi reception don't make any difference. The problem persists.
***EDIT v2***
The suggestion posted elsewhere to change from WEP to WPA didn't work out either
***EDIT v3***
Reverted back to ARHD 3.7 and WiFi is running fine again .
Hope some fix will be found soon!
Regards,
Is there any solution. I am trying to downgrade the radio but no chance.
If I use LeeDroid or Revolution will this same problem be there?

wireless issues (intermittent)

anyone got weird intermittent wireless issues?
Every now on then, and then seemingly only on some apps, wireless network connectivity will come to a crawl and / or seemingly stop completely. Apps time out etc. but I know the network is fine as my flatmate's galaxy nexus / my laptop remain fine. The most common culprit is the play store. I turn off wireless and go on HSPA, wait a while, go back to wireless, all good.
Also, once I had to kill chrome beta to fix it.
What gives?
I am having some minor wifi issues too, but i think they are slightly different from wintermute's problem.
Both my wifes and my One X won't reconnect to our wifi after returning to the house. The only way I have been able to get them to re-connect is to reboot the router.
The One X's try to reconnect appear to, then instantly disconnect and just keep cycling. Turning the wifi off and on doesn't seem to help.
Our Asus transformer and the laptop don't seem to have any issues if taken out of wifi range and then moved back in.

Hi there's a few forum posts about this. A number of us has had this issue...the One X would not have good WiFi speeds, or would completely stop whereas all other WiFi enabled devices on the same network at the same time would be fine. A reboot of the router seems to fix this for most of us. Doesn't quite make sense why the One X would be affected by a wifi issue but not other devices, but seems to do the trick for most people. Its been 7 days now since I had my One X, and since rebooting the router, the wifi issues have not returned.
I'm a cisco tech in real life and trust me its not my wireless setup... proof is that all other droids work fine (my old nexus, atrix my flatmate's galaxy nexus etc.) unless there is some super esoteric setting that the HTC one requires
having said that I have rebooted my WAP a couple of times (in addition to tweaking my router a bit re: IOS firewall, some tcp-mss tweaks I was using etc.) and it does seem better. Still at a loss to understand why no other device has any issues except for this
I'm seeing wifi drop and reconnect all the time on my One X.
Signal strength isn't an issue, I'm sat 3m from the AP however their are lots of wifi networks in this building so could be an issue with interference...
I don't have any issues with my laptop or old Desire on this wifi..
I see the same issues at the office but again their are lots of wifi networks at that location too...

Hi there,
I had a problem with my HOX and my German Fritzbox Router...it would connect, but then not letting any data through...and then even disable the whole WiFi signal so that my laptop, ps3 and Samsung Tab did not get a connection anymore...reset of the Fritzbox was necessary....loads of HOX user reported the issue in a German forum, and one suggested to set the WLAN signal from b+g+n 2.4 to only b+g 2.4 and voila....problem has disappeared...price is that connex max at 54 Mbits now...but I can live with that...try it...maybe it solves some people's WiFi issues...until someone or HTC themselves figure out a working solution with a full wireless n support...

I am experiencing the same issues but with the one s, not the WIFI ones the actual network stops all of a sudden and usually within 1 minute comes back.
It happens about once a day.
The only real problem I have is with the WLAN stick which I use on my pc as hotspot. My Phone connects but after a few minutes I have to restart WLAN on phone so it works again. With the router at my parents home (Fritz-Box) I dont have this problem. I use connectify lite on my pc. With the built-in hotspot in windows 7 it just wont work out. Maybe someone else have this kind of issue and knows a solution.
I have the same problem at home and at work.
Disabling WiFi-N on the AP fixes the problem.
At the office we have Netgear WNAP210 and at home I have a Draytec Vigor 2710VDn
Can't quote xda app giving me invalid thread id error, but I have the same exact issue at work, the linksys wag120n router I use as wap, connected to a net gear router, most times when the phone disconnects, and only the hox, it takes down the internet for even those pcs connected directly to the net gear router, strangely I only need to reboot the linksys router to get things working again.... Weird.
I think the hox is doing something, like sending repeated dhcp requests (as in a bug on hox) and taking out the dhcp server. Although of course various routers would behave differently to this. My home network is fine. Not affected ever.

HTC One X WiFi problems solved!

Ok guys so I've been complaining about my WiFi speed and loading time of the phone so far. I have a new router and I've even tried sitting right next to it! But still the same thing!
I'm sure that I'm not the only person who feels that the phone is slightly slow on WiFi out of the box with standard settings.
I have actually solved the problem and It's a very EASY fix! Do the following:
1. Settings>WiFi>Advanced >Tick best WiFi performance.
I did this and honestly is like a new phone! I am so much more happy with the phone. The difference is night & day!
I hope this helps people start loving their One X again!

What about battery consumption with this seting on though?
That was always my biggest concern for not using this setting.
Router Settings
Hi there,
when I got my HOX out of the box at home and connected it vie WiFi to my WLAN Router Fritzbox 7570 vDSL the HOX connected, but it was not possible to bring up a website like www.google.com, and after very little time the whole WiFi network collapsed, with all other clients showing only restricted connection, but no access to the internet anymore....restarting of the router was necessary.
In a German forum someone suggested to switch the WLAN from 2.4Ghz b+g+n to 2.4Ghz b+g which is a setting option with my particular Fritzbox.
I did so, and voila....no problems whatsoever anymore... HOX showing 54Mbits as does my Samsung Gtab 10.1n or my laptop...
just checked when the router is set to WLAN 2.4Ghz b+g+n the HOX shows 11Mbits and the laptop 130Mbits...
Maybe it is a good idea to see if you have a setting on your router to disable the n standard and only run b+g...and report back.
Then you don't need the Best WiFi setting at all...at least I don't need it!

I am quite sure the battery will get a hit. No free lunches.
I do notice when the signal is weak my wifi seems to disconnet and reconnect.
I have just noticed there is another option that says switch network when the wifi signal is weak. I have loads of wifi signals around my area. Maybe it was trying to connect to my neighbours. I have unticked it now (default is ticked!) and see if that issue still comes up.
But the disconnect/reconnect was pretty fast. Nontheless it is still annoying.

Well some people may have devices at home that run at N. Switching the router off to G-only may not be desirable. But as I said above, try unticking the auto switching option. It could be the phone was trying to switch band when it detected the current signal was weak.
Im sure most of us had already tried this. I'm still unable to connect to most networks or my connection gets cut off every 20 minutes or so. HTC rep explained that there must be an issue with the networkS I'm trying to connect to, as he is able to exclude a bardware failure ias a possible cause by virtue of the fact that I'm not entirely unable to connect to a network. He went on to say that you may compare this to a Turbo on a car, it is either broken or in complete working order. I was stunned at his incompetence in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
Bottom line is, it's impossible to get a proper connection on my phone.

I've a Dutch model, so it's here:

In English it's something like this:

btw: The only things that work are:
- have only B and G and to disable N on the router.
- use only WEB as security

I think the problem lies in the band of the wifi router. 5G seems to work fine while 2.4G(mine) need some tweaking to do.
Do you have a wifi router at home and what band is it?
I don't know the speed exactly but it says 54m adsl 2+ router.

Since the recent DMC3 upgrade, wifi connects fine every time. But the bug of decreasing speed over time, is still present.
This NEVER occurred with the 4.1.1 FW, so it's NOT router related. My router: Netgear CG3100 b/g/n 20Mhz bandwidth.
I was initially very happy, finding that the connection bug was gone in this FW, 'til I realised the speed problem wasn't.

Can you explain this "decreasing of speed over time" problem?
I mean that when I connect to the wifi network, the speed is 20-24Mbit/s down,
& 9-10Mbit up, as it's supposed to be. If I then leave the phone on the table for,
say 15-30 minutes, & after that pick it up and do a speed test, it has dropped
to between 2 & 3Mbit/s down, and around 3Mbit/s up. I disconnect from the
wifi network, reconnect immediately, and speeds are back to normal again.
Same every time. This bug, Sammy somehow failed to wipe out....
Wifi troubleshooting can be sort of a black arts. Regardless of where the fault lies, what you should do first is log into the router's control panel, and disable as many functions as possible, including setting it to b only, disabling qos, wmm and such, security to none, perhaps assign a static ip etc.
If it works, enable features one by one by process of elimination.

Wifi, BT and poor coverage drain my battery

Hi, I have the nexus 5x since Oct 2016.
With wifi, BT or poor coverage, y consumption is high. Minimum of 1,5%/hour. With mobile data 0,2%/hour. Perhaps with poor coverage is normal, but I don't understand why it happens with Wifi (At home (2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz) and at work (5Ghz)). I have tested multiples cases.
I have had 7.0 (stock), 7.1(stock), 7.1.2 (Dev), without root and with root + (Franco kernel or ElementalX kernel) + naptime. I have desactivate Wifi scaning on location. I never see the flat line in battery graph with Wifi.
I use the app "gsam battery" to see the battery graph. The kernel and Android system are the first app suckers, I think it's normal. I don't see anthing unusual in battery graph. The mobile go to sleep mode correctly.
What would be the problem? What new tests I can do?
Thanks
Question: Are you using Project Fi, or any other carrier that allows for WiFi calling/texting?
To clarify: I don't think Project Fi is the culprit, but I may have a solution that I've been testing.
A common complaint that goes back to my N5 running Kit Kat. The fix was to force the device to only use 2.4Ghz Wifi, however since 7.0 Google has removed that option.
Changing router's or updating the router firmware has helped some in the past but not for me.
Does your device Doze properly on a mobile data connection also? And does wifi occasionally idle properly, say when switching back and forth between wifi and cell data? That's the case for me currently, and you know something's wrong when a 3G connection idles better than Wifi.
I'm not using Project Fi, or any other carrier that allows for WiFi calling. My carrier is vodafone, a normal carrier.
I have tested a router with 2.4Ghz only, but the problem persists.
Doze works correctly with mobile data connection and Wifi. I can see the mobile go to sleep mode correctly in both cases.
But in idle mode, wifi use a 1.5%/hour and mobile data 0.2%/hour, but I don't see nothings strange in the graphs or stadistics.
What I can I try?

Ya sounds exactly like the issue I was describing. The fix used to be to force the device to only pick up 2.4Ghz connections but Google took the option away ever since 7.0. Being on a network they only transmits 2.4Ghz doesn't help as the device is still listening to and picking up 5Ghz signals.
There is no known fix that I'm aware of. I don't think Google considers it their problem, they would likely say it's a router compatibility issue and tell us to upgrade our router firmware.
