[Q] Will someone else be able to activate my S4,? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Will someone be able to active my S4 if I'm still paying for it through T-Mobile, but have my Moto X active on the account?

I don't think so. I wondered the same with my S3. But T-Mobile rep said the phone will not be able to be activated on another number if it is not paid off on my number. So i paid it off.

Do you mean to make a new account? Because as long as they just swap sim cards and you keep paying it, there should be no problem

IMEIs are saved per account. When they swap SIM cards, the will know the phone is no longer under the same account. Honestly OP, best bet would be to call up and ask.

Does this mean that people will not be able to sell their payment plan phones If it's not paid off? Because that's good news, no more scams where ppl sell the phone and stop paying the bill

I say that because I used my s3 with metropcs and it wasn't paid off..

I was going to sell my phone on Swappa but thought about this before I listed it because I didn't want to screw anyone over. If that's the case then I may have to return my Moto X :-/ Either that or dig myself even deeper into debt and pay off the remaining balance on the S4, sell it on Swappa and hopefully recoup my losses....

I just had to call up customer service and tell them that a friend was going to be using the phone while I was paying it off.

if you report it stolen they will lock the IMEI and it will not work on Tmobile, and it is also illegal to do what you are saying, it is called insurance fraud ....
Yeap... insurance fraud...illegal
If they see the imei on the first phone making phone calls to numbers that match up with numbers being called from the replacement device they will charge you full retail price for the replace and then They will lock the first phone making it useless on the tmobile network.

Blocked IMEI

So I did the dumb thing and got a GN off of Cl for 100 bucks which to me was awesome but I found out that the imei was blocked. I know what ppl are going to say and I knew it was a bad idea myslef but it didn't cross my mind the whole imei thing. Now I have a perfect nexus that I can't use. Its a GSM unlocked version by the way. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Not discussed here. We don't talk about dealing with blacklisted IMEI's.

1. Yup, attempt to get your money back.
2. Find out who it's blacklisted with and call them, they might actually give you some money towards a non-blacklisted one.
3. Be less then honest and use it as a glorified mp3 device.
Basically you're asking how to get a stolen phone working. How would you feel if you were the victim who had their phone stolen?
Do the right thing man. And next time, if someone is selling something way cheaper than anyone else is, that tells you you're going to lose out in the end if you get it

So in order for the OP (or any of us) to avoid this in the future. What is the best way to check if an IMEI is blacklisted before obtaining the phone? Can we call any random carrier and do it, is there a website we can use, or is it just a risk we all take buying used devices?

What if they list it for a regular price?
You can call the carriers customer service prior to buying, you may need to do this for each carrier as most carriers don't share black list databases. If the seller won't give you the imei to make the calls first, or the imei they gave you doesn't match the phone, don't buy it.
Also, turn the phone in. A 100 dollar loss is better than jail time, and yes it is possible if that phone is reported stolen, and you're caught with it - chances are if you tried to activate it and found out it's black listed, your carrier knows you have it.

That's easy to do with a CDMA Galaxy Nexus, since there are only 2 carriers.
(Verizon and Sprint)
However, the OP bought a GSM Galaxy Nexus. Wouldn't he/she have to call
every GSM carrier around the world to verify the IMEI? Or do GSM carriers
share IMEI blacklists with each other?
If you are in the US, then it will be fairly easy in the near future:

Does att block imei?

I have been chatting with this girl on Craig list who wants to get rid of her sgs3 to help pay for an iphone later this week....
I know all the sprint / tmobile phones on Craig list eventually are blocked for non payment / reported stolen...
To my understanding att doesn't care about this stuff... At least last year the un didn't..
Is that still the case? Don't want to get this good deal on a phone just to have to unlock and sell it again..
Want to buy it for my sister

Yes at&t now DOES block imeis. Ask her to meet at a store to confirm the device is legit.

Actually yes att does block imeis for stolen devices. I work for them and it just came out. Its called blocklisting. Will not work on att and if you put an att sim in it it will suspend your service.

What if somebody opens an att account.. Sells their phone on Craig list and stops payments to it.. Will att block the phone they got with the contract?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Just meet up at the store make the purchase there. If the seller is unwilling to go there then tell them to screw off. They will have security cameras all over the place so there is evidence that this person is selling you the phone; and you will also have a witness that this is taking place so if later they claim that they never sold it to you and it was in fact stolen then you have some evidence in your corner. Legally speaking nothing is concrete but you have to think as litigious as possible because scum is everywhere.
And if you want to get really ridiculous you could type up a document stating that they will in fact pay in full the remainder of the contract and/or pay any fees necessary to keep "the specific ImeI" from being blocked from att service. You would have to have them sign it in front of a witness and a notary. If I were spending more than 400 bucks I would get this ridiculous. Then if you have to take them to small claims court this contract will be as good as any other contract and any judge worth a damn will force them to pay the damages.

T-Mobile 30 dollar plan for gs3???

I have a Samsung galaxy s 3 no contract from T-Mobile, but now want a plan with them. I see that they have the 30 dollar a month 5gb unlimited data unlimited text and 100min of talk. Only problem is that its for " New tmobile.com orders or Walmart orders" only. Is there a way to still get the plan?

I ordered a sim from T-Mobile.com and when I received it, I had to cut it down to a microsim, then activated it on a new account with the $30 plan. Works great.
New plan just means you will have to get a new number.

You can get a sim card for free from a tmobile store if you ask nicely and BS a good reason for needing it. Then just go to tmo prepaid website and select the plan it's pretty easy to find
You need an activation code along with the sim card for the $30 plan to work. Just order from TMobile. It's the easiest way. It's only .99 cents

When you're activating on the T-Mobile website, do you enter the Samsung Galaxy's Phone serial number (IMEI)? Or do you enter a "dumbphone's" IMEI instead?

Thank you so much for your fast reply. I have one more question. T-Mobile asks for a Activation Code found in the activation booklet provided with your T-Mobile No Annual Contract phone. What do I enter for that?

Exactly that. The activation kit from t-mobile contains an activation code. Without it you can't do anything. The codes are unique so even if I can remember what my code was it won't help you.
Okay I see what you guys are saying.
Step 1: order sim card from T-Mobile for 1 dollar
Step 2:Buy the 30 dollar unlimited plan from let's say Walmart.com(they email you the code)
Step 3: Put sim card in phone and activate it and then when asked do I have a refil card number, give them the 30 dollar unlimited plan code I just got.
Step 4: Jump around in excitement of all the money I'm gonna save.
Is this correct?

Don't even bother with Wal-Mart. Once you receive the sim card from T-Mo, you can take care of all of it on T-Mo's website. You don't even need a refill card, only the sim card and activation kit with number.
BTW, you WILL need to cut the sim card so either buy a sim cutter for a few bucks from Amazon or get comfortable with a pair of scissors.

No way to port, not that I know of.
If you don't pay your bill....they just shut off your service, it's pre paid.
No WiFi calling...as it's pre paid.

I have been with T-Mobile for 10 years and I call the Loyalty Department for any issue I have...Their job is to keep you happy..I really don't think the amount of time you have spent with them determines how much they help you...So call customer care and ask to speak to the Loyalty Department they gave me the S4 for half the price with nothing down I'm sure there is something they can do for you.
T-mobile told me that I'll have to call Sprint and tell them I didn't want that number transferred and that I need a new number then when they change it I can get my tmobile account back. Will this really work?

When you said half price, are you talking about half of $629, which is ~$315. If so, why? I've been a customer just as long. I would like to know what was the offer/promotion and the circumstance.

Ummm... the whole point of the $100 promotion Sprint is running is so you will switch over from your "T-Mo" service to Sprint's. Switching over means you will leave your old service behind and transfer your number to Sprint. I fail to see the problem here. If you didn't want to transfer your number, then you shouldn't be receiving the $100 off promotion. Why did you even leave that much in there? The only way I see is for T-Mobile to send you a check since everything on your account is paid for.
you went to sprint?
have fun with that.
i just came from them and i can defiantly tell you your not getting anything better. data speeds are so slow you will wish you were on dialup.
unless your in their lte area, but thats the only exception
I didn't start this thread over 27$ pay attention instead of trying to be smart nd funny.. and I didn't know it was going to port my number over. He didn't explain all of that.
