Back side is plastic? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning!
After discussions over a week, the european users are not sure if the back side is really glas. Also, if there is a splatter protection foil over it.
Is here any user who tried to put off the backside foil?

"The phone has metallic sides, a polished polycarbonate back and Gorilla Glass front." - V3

According to Sony Z1 Compact White Paper http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/d5503/whitepaper_EN_d5503_xperia_z1_compact_1.pdf Page 3 quoted "Both the front and back are made of durable tempered glass, reflecting the world around you while allowing you to get so immersed in content that the hardware virtually disappears"
Looks like there are some confusion here and Sony will be in big trouble. No one sure the front is Dragontail or Gorilla glass too.

Sorry but changing a whitepaper after release? Sony, what's up?

Dunno about plastic back, but the piece about front glass is wrong - Sony does NOT use Gorilla glass in it's products, it uses Dragontrail glass.

AFAIK the back and front are made out of glass and are covered by a protective foil, just like the Z1.

Proof pls? Heard much about glass and ASF both side but no proof yet.

Actually it's official. Back cover IS plastic.
From the new whitepaper (http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/Xperia_Z1_Compact_D5503_WP1.pdf):

You do understand, that if the back was made from glass, then there would be no point to editing the whitepaper in such a way? Of course, we can pretend, that is made from glass even when it's not, till there is an explicit statement... But, hey, this whitepaper is the closest thing we can get to Sony's acknowledgement of their mistake in the misleading device description -_-

Exactly this is what I wanted to let you know by starting this thread...

You mean the protection foil out of the box like the one in front? Or is there also an additional foil on the back?

I hope there is a film to peel off the back, because mine somehow got scuffed and it's been in a case since day one.

It`s plastic, I removed that protection foil from the first day, I can`t stand the idea of it. Anyhow it`s a good plastic, resistant to daily shocks, since I managed to drop it to the ground

Do you mind share how you removed the back plastic protector?
I can not seems to find where it is joined to the body at corners.
Also have few deep marks on 10 days old Compact, though normal use. My Z1 back still looks new after 6 months with same usage.

So this premium Sony phone, going for approx. £400 after VAT, has a plastic back. Might as well be designed by Samsung!
BTW I actually ordered this phone; expecting delivery sometime next week.

I think plastic back is better than glass. Aluminum should be more fancy but glass, I think it's a not so good idea. Just my personal opinion
Sent from a mobile Gadget...

Can someone please post this in it's own detailed thread along with the relevant evidence on the official Sony Xperia Z1 Compact forum so we can get an official response on why it changed? http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/bd-p/Xperia_Z1_Compact?sl=y&sso_no_log=y

Well, I went ahead and made a thread about this on the official forum http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...f-plastic-and-not-glass-as/m-p/549831#U549831
I must say Im very annoyed to find out its not glass... and the sneaky way in which Sony amended the whitepaper is pretty low. Does it really affect how I view this phone? Well, I still love it... but it's certainly not good in principle, and has somewhat marred my opinion of the quality.

I'm going naked but with protection....(title sounds funny I know)

I'm thinking about having my phone naked....... well, sort of. What I mean is, I was thinking of adding the SGP Glas for the front. So now the front will be protected. Then I would have a bumper protecting the sides of the phone. For the back I would have an invisible shield, Even if I do happen to drop it I can easily buy the back panel since its cheap. Do you think this would be a smart way of having my phone feel naked and having great having protection?
I just love the naked slim body of the phone. I do have a diztronic case even though the case has very little bulk, its still does not the feel the same.
Looking for some advise
What I would buy to do this is...
SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Prote...7726&sr=8-1&keywords=galaxy+s3+tempered+glass
Black bumper
http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Bumpe...=1347180178&sr=1-10&keywords=galaxy+s3+bumper
Fort he Back of the phone
http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-Mil...=1-8&keywords=galaxy+s3+invisible+shield+back
You don't need to protect the screen at all, gorilla glass is much stronger than your flimsy plastic sheets you put on it. If something can scratch gorilla glass, that "screen protector" will not stop it at all. A weaker object can't protect a stronger object.
What you need to protect is the phone's back. I use my phones naked always. I've never had much problem. However with SGS3, my phone's back is covered with scratches. I don't remeber having any other phone with a backplate this vulnerable.

I'm also using SGP glas on my S3, but I use with Samsung's slim case. This thing add literally no thickness at all! And it protects back and the camera. I thought about using SGP ultra bumper case but I'm worried about camera lens since it doesn't provide any kind of protection around.

should be in accessories thread
Does using a screen protector take away the essence of the S3's beautiful screen? I am very careful about keeping my phone away from coins, keys, etc. and am confident about not getting the screen scratched; my only concern is the finger oil marks that are left on the screen.
Will a screen protector resolve this issue?
I am confused.
Why not using a pouch like this one? http://mobil.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/3276708_-slimcase-leather-xl-bugatti.html
Using a similar case since I have my s3 (bought it at launch) and haven't got a single scratch yet and still have the pure device when I interact with it.

because if I dropped it when its out of the punch im screwed.
Be careful with samsung ultra slim in 0.3mm
I got them ( there are 2 differents in package) and both suffer hot temperatures! I have no photo atm but i can clearly say that they deform themeselves if exposed at some high temperature(for example when you play game or any sort of thing that increase battery temperature)
they are curved now and dont fit well..
So i gone with the tpu ,always samsung offcial, and all is awesome (but you lose the naked but protected feel xD)
When i read naked i thought you meant to take the motherboard out and put it in a transparent case/shell to show the insides....
Why not try a Zagg invisible shield. I'vehad one on my SGS since the beginning and also on my GTab. It'll be the first thing I get on my next mobile upgrade. You can get maximum protection (front, back, sides) or just front protection.

it wouldnt
there are plenty of videos of people scraping keys, knives, and other sharp objects across the screen with no effect, even sandpaper which resulted in very faint scratches
my phone has flip case... and the screen's scratched to ****. If gorilla glass is scratchproof then i'm the king of mars
So then, is a screen protector absolutely essential? I'd rather have the screen naked, then use a screen protector.
I have, however, got a pretty nice body for the phone that covers and protects the back well.

Yea i bought the Z front + back like a fool, i would have sworn i was looking at the right one, but i cut the warranty seal as soon as i got it xD.
I ordered the one for the Z1 and im about to put it on, looks awesome. i still want one for the back though, the glass just feels much better then urethane, although the urethane has a more rugged feel for the back, as it flexes and does not shatter.

They are nicer for the grip but don't look nearly as good. But they don't add thickness. I just got my glass protector for the back and want to see if it will fit in my dock with the glass-m on the front and this generic one on the back.
After removing sony's screen protector, how do I clean the glass and remove any glue left?
Is it safe to remove it and keep the glass exposed while I wait for the new protector?
I would wait till you get it. My glass m took about 2 weeks (or felt like it) to come. I read some one washed it with soapy water. But I left it on. Glass m comes with a wipe cloth and pre sticker for dust. I done mine in bathroom when it was steamy

What I heard ina nice video, once you peel it off, is not to use any cotton cloth, as it may stick on the glue, but to use instead a micro-fiber + spary glass cleaner

Yep and you might want to dip your fingers in a liquid soap and water so you can touch the back without leaving fingerprints. Also if you get soap water between the phone and protector it will let you position the glass before you press it down.
I like how i don't need to turn off the phone at any point lolz.

I've used Spigen a couple times on my GS4 with no application issues. Why a couple times? Dropping from 6ft up or more on to cleverly placed rocks and corners of raised floor plates hitting the glass just right after several months of great protection. You literally clean the phone off, make sure there's no dust and slap it on.
Little bit off topic, but i wondered if these glass screen protectors designed for the z1 would fit on the z1s from t-mobile? z1s supposedly a little longer but i am not sure if it's the bezel or sides

Doubtful. The placement of the FFC and proximity/light sensors are swapped between models so the hole for the sensors are on the opposite side that they need to be on for the Z1s.

Searching tempered Glass for Backside

I would like to protect the backside of my G6 to avoid cracking and scratches without putting it in a case where it's beauty will be hidden behind some plastic.
Does someone know if there is a Tempered Glass for the Backside?
Why not using a skin for the backside? There are no glass protectors for the back available atm.

For your other phones did you have the equivalent front+back set? That looks pretty cool but while it is not clearly specified, I'm guessing only the front screen protector is glass. In their article on 'glass or film' : "If the counts for us full protection of your phone to choose FlexibleGlass 3D - set consisting of unbreakable glass and hybrid film made in housing technology Full-Form ™. " Not sure what exactly "hybrid film" is there and they talk about "hybrid glass" too. But a decent plastic skin for the back that wraps around the sides like that might still be nice.
I'm sure, that back is 7h hybrid, so it is stronger film, not glass. They explain, that it is not possible to make 9h for a back, from other side it is logic.

Screen protector with absulute clarity?

As the title says guys. I am sad and frustrated. I know a perfect glass screen protector does not exist. So after spending tons of money in different film protector I am starting to believe, this doesn't exist either. Each and every film protector has a graininess, a matte look which becomes very obvious in white background. And this is something I absolutely hate. I spent my hard earned money on this phone. And my selling point was the gorgeous display. But it seems I either have to go for protection or display quality. Help me out guys. Tell me that a film protector with absolute clarity, devoid of the disgusting graininess exist. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Following, I am in the same boat
Have you tried Whitestone Dome Glass yet? That's the absolute thing. There are only 4 shortcomings so far (1. dust magnet at the edge (not the screen area, just the edge of the glass protector itself) 2. if you try to clean the sticky dust at the edge, you end up shaving out the glue 3. Very expensive 4. Takes too many steps to apply).
After wasting money with the crappy Zagg Glass ...I tried OTAO and I am super happy with it. For 10 bucks u could do much worse....it hasn't come off yet and makes a full seal so dirt doesn't get in. It also doesnt have any clicking sound issues....nor the rainbow effect.

I second that! it is the best!
I bought the Ounier Full Coverage Bubble-Free Screen Protector as it was one of the first brands to come up when searching for screen protectors for Samsung Galaxy S9. My phone is fairly new and I needed to have it fully protected first before I include it in my busy daily routine. I’m the kind of person who chooses convenience over price, but as this product was recommended by a friend (for his S8), I gave it a chance. Besides, It’s really great that the pack has 2 screen protectors; the easier to change, the better. I’ve also had bad experiences with other screen protectors for my old phones as they sometimes hinder with some of the phone’s features, like the double tap, the sensors, etc. Since my friend can’t recall any troubles at all with this protector, this eased my mind a bit with what it had to offer.

As per manufacturer - Type:Front Film
And again - "...Glass Screen Protector..". so it is protector for glass screens....
Honestly why would you get gorilla glass screen in the first place if you want to put on some plastic on it?
Gorilla glass has enough scratch protection and if you plan to abuse your phone then this is not the type of phone in the first place. The film type screen protectors drop protection has always been controversial and questionable.
It's like getting a new car and putting some clothes on it to not scratch the paint and to not chip the windshield...
It's the question of "refreshness". You put $2-3 glass on top of Gorilla (which is not so scratch-resistable in fact) and trash it after 3-5 month, got new glass and fresh new screen. In case of no protector the only option you have is new LCD assembly at $50? (or fake china "compatible" LCD with poor colors and backlight). According to the fact that 3-layer glass (original gorilla+silicone adhesive+protective glass) will be definitely stronger comparison to LCD only, that's the reason to choose.
But i agree with you, >$200 phone is not the price you'll have to put a case in a case while in carrying pouch to protect it like a treasure.
I got the same case. Very nice quality. The only thing I don't like is the rough inside surface. Hopefully it won't scuff the back of the phone. It also seems slightly thicker than my other plain black case.
Got the same case good quality. Cloth back solves the problem that the bare phone is SUPER slippery and will slide off a perfectly flat surface.
Are there any problems with pressing side buttons and plugging earphones?

I wonder how that compares to it.
How are the buttons with this case, I have one from silicon as well and they are really hard to press.
