Wake-up lag - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi,
i dont know if anyone has already mentioned that or I'm unwillingly acting as captain obvious, but the wake-lag can be reduced/eliminated.
The lag is actually intended for the S-Voice feature. During the lag-time it listens and waits wether you want to use S-Voice. There's an option in the settings menu, which allows you to disable the S-Voice activation on homebutton. Once you disable this, the lag will disappear/improve drastically.
Cheers

For people with the Book Cover the fastest way to a working home screen is to enable Daynote and cancel past it...

I don't think that this is problem. I dissabled S voice in setting, same problem. Then I removed S voice apk from system, still same problem.

Which version do you have? P600?

I find that my wake lag (P605, MJ9) is completely gone when I remove the SD card from the slot.

No result here either

I have a P600, and the Samsung cover. I have disabled S Voice, and Day Note, but I still get a lag, and Day Note on the lockscreen. Don't get me wrong it is nothing to whine about, This is a great tablet and I love it, just want to tailor it to my liking. I can live with the lag on wake, and the Day Note.
Still a great tablet.

I have 605 and this annoying lag -.-
Samsung SM-P605 - Tapatalk

Mine is the card.
Via my Note 3

P600 no root, no lag.

I have the P605 and it's definitely with the microsd card

Same on mine, no card means no lag.

SM600 with sd card and never a wake-up lag (not with default firmware and surley not with CleanRom
PS. But maybe it is your sd card content. This is a well known issue with android that by corrupt files e.g. the media scanner got an endless loop and use power.

I've tried already two different sd cards, a 16gb SanDisk and a 64gb SanDisk ultra and the results are the same... with card LAG, remove card NO LAG, very frustrating

Install StartupManager from Google Play and Rescan Media Root, open StartupManager and go to system (middle row) and look for Media Storage and disable it. Then open Rescan Root once and close it. That`s it, Samsung media storage sync (also on boot) is now disabled and is taken over by Rescan. This should solve the problem. Problem also occured on the S3 and this how i solved it.

That's very cool, thanks so much.
I've done everything you told, but when I listen to some music watchdog gives me "mediaserver" process using from 6 to 10% of CPU.
Is this normal?
I had the same problem, but installed LBE, which has a boot-manager. I switched off all the samsung stuff that boots with the device, and the problem was fixed.

Basically everything that had samsung in it, but also a lot of other stuff. Here's a screen of the stuff I think causes it:
http://i.imgur.com/3dCVf.png
But I also switched off a ****load of other apps I don't see the need in having boot up with the device, this is for example a part of it:
http://i.imgur.com/KJlkd.png
(btw I only use gmail, so e-mail app is not useful for me)
You might want to keep camera enabled though for faster launching.
Remember, all the stuff you disable at launch still works perfectly, you only have to click it before it starts.
I don't know about startup manager, I use LBE because it also does permission control.

[Q] My Note 2 slows down after restart, is it normal?

I wouldn't start this topic if it slowed down for 10 seconds after restart, but it is almost 60 seconds. Everything on the phone is stock, everything was downloaded from Google Play, which are famous games so nothing suspicious.
I didn't restart my phone many times, only 3 or 4 times now since I got the device but this looks like something new. I'd appreciate your comments, thanks.
Update: Let me tell you more about how it gets slowed down after restart. My phone runs jelly bean really fast and it is really smooth. However when it gets like this, it is like a galaxy s3 with a bad 4.1.1 jelly bean update installed on, if you know what I mean. FPS drops between transitions, that kind of stuff. This lasts for 55-60 seconds and it is fast and smooth again.
Have you put a new microsd card in it...if so...what speed....it may be something to do with that. Also...to speed things up, got to settings, find developer options (near the bottom), and turn off the screen and transition animations.....it will most certainly speed things up a bit.

Hey there, thanks for your response. I'm using a class 10 sd card and I'm not having any problems with the speed after that 55-60 seconds following the restart. The thing I actually wanna know is whether this is normal or not. If not, I'd consider formatting my phone.

Well, I remember restarting my phone when it was like brand new and as far as I remember, I too didn't have this problem at that time. Seems like I'll format my phone. Thanks.
Isn't it the media scanner that does that
Skickat från min GT-N7105 via Tapatalk 2
What is your sdcard format? Try formating your sdcard to FAT32 or other things, or just try all the formats.
Do you have a lot of pictures? It's probably media scanner doing its thing like was said above, which is normal.

Touchwiz and battery problems

Hi,
I bought Tab S 8.4 recently (3 weeks ago).
I face two issues and I appreciate your help..
1- Toucwiz: it happens frequently after I restart my tablet to find the error message (Unfortunately, Touchwiz stopped working). When I press OK, the screen blanks and starts working fine. I tried resetting the tablet to factory settings, clearing cache, clearing Touchwiz application setting.
The problem goes for some time and comes back. it doesn't really impact the tablet function but it is a kind of irritating.
2- Battery drains: I used to have ipad mini, the battery life was about 5 to 6 days.
For the Tab S, it is maximum three days. taking into consideration that I am using the tablet for emails, browsing, and rarely lite games.
Please, let me know if you face these problems and if you know the fix.
Thanks,

1. Re-flash your device firmware with Odin. Many guides about on its use. Check sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com
2. The browsing time has been shown to be less than SOME other tablets but media play exceeding most others (including mini) of the same form factor. Don't know what users expect for such a thin device device with a very high resolution. There are far more pixels to push
There is also power saving mode and ultra power saving mode. You could also use auto brightness with lower setting.
As your coming from an Apple device here are some info on best battery saving practices for Android :
7 Quick Tips To Extend Battery Life on Android 4.4 Kitkat
http://www.idroidspace.com/best-tips-to-extend-battery-life-on-android-4-4-kitkat-devices/
Specifically for Tab S:
- (I don't use this one as to me it reduces the value of my tablet) : "Select adaptive display off and use basic color better battery life but sacrifice some color". This suggestion came at the beginning of August before at least one update which may have negated it's value.
- Settings:
- Increase the time between services being synced (GMail, Calender... Etc)
- Turn off syncing for any service you don't use
- Turn off Bluetooth if your not using it
- Turn off WiFi scanning once you have added your WiFi access point(s)
- uncheck WiFi remaining alive when tablet is asleep (sorry forgot the specific setting name)
- Anything you can tolerate that reduces screen brightness.
- Turn off auto brightness and control it manually
- Reduce the auto brightness value assuming you still want auto brightness
If that is still not enough then you can install a battery app which tracks "wakelocks" (apps that keep your app awake even when it is not being used). After analyzing that info you can uninstall the worst offenders. Sometimes the worst ones are part of the system or an essential app so you must put up with the drain. See this XDA post for a good battery analysing app which is free for XDA members.

Likely the 1st link to the 7 tips article will give your the best bang for the buck.
Good luck

The weird thing is that the Touchwiz error appears only at the restart. Then the tablet continues working fine.
it is less probable to happen when I restart the tablet after it is shut down, and more probable to happen when I restart it by command.
It is not stopping me from using the tablet, but it is some how irritating.

I found the trigger ... Or I think I did
I cleared the Touchwiz data and cache .. so it went to the default configuration. I then started adding my widgets and shortcuts one by one.
I figured out that the Touchwiz fault happens when I add a short cut of an application installed on the microSD card.
I moved all the applications from the microSD to the internal memory and now Touchwiz works fine.
Now going to the microSD. The microSD I have is Transcend cat 10. It should be quite fast, and it is actually fast (R/W). However, I recall some posts regarding Transcend in-compatibility with new Samsung devices.
I have Galaxy S5 as well... same Transcend type and works fine.... BUT ... There is a Samsung application called User's digest for Samsung (or you can find it in the name of Vitamin's for Samsung).. It has a feature to place some tests to the handset. Both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab S show the microSD card test result as "Disconnected"! ... I didn't care that much on the S5 as it didn't cause any problem, but now I started to care after what happened with the Tab S.
I ordered Samsung 32GB cat 10 microSD... should arrive in a week... will let you know about my experience.
It's confirmed now the touchwiz problem while starting the tablet is triggered by microsd.
The transcend I was using was fake. I am using an original one now and I can sense the enhancement in the read speed, as well as no touchwiz problem anymore.
Thanks,
How do I reboot in safe mode in galaxy tab s t705?
Thanks

Lots of different small issues

Hi all
I have been using this phone for a month, and I have experienced a lot of different small issues, I hope someone may have solution to them.
Phone:
Mi A2 Lite, rooted (Magisk) Android one pie, January update. Has a screen protector.
Apps:
Here are some apps that I think may cause the issue that I mention below, these apps are Nova and datally. Really can't think of a third one, I don't use any cleaning app or battery performance app.
Issue:
1. Typing experience is horrible. Using stock google input, the keyboard is not very sensitive and accurate. The letter just can't be recognized even though I am sure I have pressed the key and pressed the right key. So my typing is really slow, the key doesn't display immediately (it does seem to have a delay), and for some reason I always type wrong and missing some letters, so gotta use backspace a lot.
2. It always wakes up randomly in my pocket, so I may take the phone out with torch on and airplane mode on without my awareness.
3. When I am on a call, I can accidentally press some random on screen keys.
4. The background apps AWALYS get killed, even though I have turned the battery optimization off globally, and the individual apps that I never want to be killed.
5. Messaging service apps have huge delay when delivering the notification. It may only show when I open the app. Used PNF app but couldn't fix the problem.
Does anyone have the same issue and know the fix?
I hope it is only the software problem (Pie system) and maybe I can fix it by flashing a better rom, but I don't seem to find a stable official custom ROM for Mi A2 Lite (even lineage OS is unofficial)
Many thanks

Apps to SD card?

Does this phone not support this feature? For the life of me I can't get any of my games/apps to change storage from Internal to SD card. I tried with 3rd party apps and I tried via SETTINGS - General - Apps - Storage ... no option to save to External SD card
Is the MicroSD only good for saving your pics, videos and other media files? That really sucks if that's the case
Doesn't seem to be present. Inexcusable for any Android phone..I don't understand why even a flagship phone wouldn't have this other than less future proofing. Not sure I'll ever have a hundred gb of *apps* but still. You can turn on force apps to be installable on external storage in the dev options but that doesn't really open anything up. Whether it will auto extend installations to SD card when onboard storage is full like I've seen some phones do I don't know.
I found one article that claims the sd can be formatted as internal storage. Has anybody tried this?
Since I wasn't able to get a concrete answer online I called LG customer service and she told me the external storage is only good for pictures and "files" and apps can't be installed to the SD card. IDK, take that for what it's worth

Same. Why is this still a thing in these phones? It should be basic function. I'm close to swapping out this damn thing for something else because it's got so many dumb little flaws out of laziness. I didnt notice right away but there is no flashlight option in the swipedown menu, either! Nor can it be added from available options by pressing edit. Had to install a damn app for it! I'm sorry to hear about your flashlight! My tmo version has the swipedown flashlight. I wonder if you have the flashlight in the aod? Mine is in the always on display when you swipe right on the icons below the clock. Which carrier and country version do you have?
No swipedown flashlight is a huge mistake. If it makes you feel any better, I'm mad they don't have a wifi hotspot button in the swipedown anymore. I had to put a stupid widget on my home screen.
I agree, not sure why they'd neglect the transfer apps to sd function. My S8 did it with almost any app once the dev option was activated.
Ugh, locked bootloaders....

I actually have the flashlight in the pull down menu. At least one feature works...although I think I used it 3x in like 5 years. Give me apps 2 SD and silent shutter!
Even if you force it via developer option, not all apps will work properly. Maybe it has to do with how the apps interact with the processes on the device like location, etc?

It's North American, bought it unlocked. At least regarding WiFi hotspot, I can now tether vs my previous phone (a little Huawei elate/h1711z) which was cricket locked so it required me to pay (never). Same SIM card tho. The aod..I tried that. I had to turn on quick tools and it was there. It also put the flashlight into the swipe down display?? It's possible I didn't see it but previously I had two rows of four options on the full pull down, and a third row of three with a blank spot. Now it's three rows of four, with the flashlight in the previously blank spot. I feel like my phone is gaslighting me haha.

No need to apologize. I wasn't trying to be confrontational. This phone is lacking in a few basic ways which really sucks. I would complain to them but I feel like it would go no where.

Interesting differences, I'm glad it kicked in for you. Although I'm grateful for the tmo payment plan, I'm jealous that your unlocked phone has native, unmonitored hotspot. I had to use the widget, because tmo replaces the app with their own, so I can't tether nearly as much as I'd like. I wouldn't care that much, but we can only get dsl here, and my phone is actually faster.
