Headphone buttons - Moto G Accessories

I have some headphone with 3 buttons from my Samsung S3 days. Volume Up/Down and another button that used for pausing, etc.. The buttons currently do nothing on 4.4.2. Anyway to get the buttons working?
Here is a picture of the headphones.

i own an HTC one and faced the same issue. Leave aside volume, the buttons in the stock headset supplied with the phone even did not change the track. This app was a boon for me.
try the trial version here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headset&hl=en before you buy the paid one.

I can't get the buttons to do anything, even with the app. Found this via google.

Sucks, seems a hardware limitation.

Yes, and I just tried this Headset on my old Phone (Galaxy Gio) and it also did not recognize the button. Maybe Hardwarelimitation or proprietary Signal by the Nokia Headset?!

Yeah seems so......ur guess is as good as any....I don't have any multi button headsets to test but that app does detect the button clicks from normal one buttoned headphones...
Edit: test with some generic headphones with multiple buttons

I have a basic 1-button wired headset from my old galaxy s. Sound and mic work fine, button does nothing. Tried many apps, signal doesn't get caught when I press the button. The headset works fine on galaxy s (stock and CM) and on my wife's HTC desire (stock and CM). I thought a custom ROM would add support on my moto g, tried official CM11 to no avail.
I am lost here. If it is hardware limitation, then this is a seriously ridiculous downside. Well.... Ya I still like my phone tho.
Edit: I tried the xposed framework remap thing and it waits for an input. No button press detected. Sigh....

Same problem here with my Nexus S headphone. Tested the new headphone model from samsung (with volume -/+) and none of the buttons worked, same with the iPhone 5 headphone.
So far, the only headset that worked was the cheepo one that came with the device.

Yours came with a headset? mine did not! hahaha. I only got a white usb cable. Nothing else. I guess they had to cut at least some corners...
Mine is a Telus/Koodo 8GB.

Sony Smartkey app works with the Moto handset and with Sony headsets (single button). It can play/pause/next/prev when playing music and can map in a couple of other states.
By default, long press is for Google voice search.

[Q] Earphones that work with the HTC Desire (including mic, controls and volume)

I'm a new convert to Android from the iPhone, and for the most part I'm happy with the HTC Desire. There's just one thing I'm having trouble adjusting to, and that's moving away from the iPhone's default earphones for listening to music. My main hangup is the lack of in-line volume controls.
To get to the point - I'm looking for some good earphones that include:
- A mic
- Prev/next track controls
- Volume controls
What are my options? (If any)
Next and previous track not always supported but you get everything else on sennheiser ip50 ear buds. Sound great, loads on ebay for around a tenner, I paid about 50 quid for mine...

Earphones which work with Desire
I have been trying to solve the same problem, as yet with no real success. I tried the Sienhessers but they din't do everything you and I want.
Two suggestions; do your old Apple phones not work with the Desire? Most of the iPhone compatible phones I have tried do (I don't have an Apple set to try). The best solution I have found so far is adding these - http://www.complyfoam.com/Product/Whoomp!-Earbud-Enhancers - to the HTC stock phones. The sound quality is not that great but they are comfortable and the inline control has ALL the functions.
If you're really bothered, cut the buds off some decent ear buds and solder to the original htc set....

The stock HTC phones don't have volume control?
Bluetooth headphones might be an option

No they don't. Bit silly really!
Would be good to have a lead that plugs into the phone with the controls on and then normal headphones plug into that.
Something like this (the RC E100):

Hi I am using sennheiser MM400 for my desire, the best headphones i have ever owned, once you go wireless you'll never go back, bit expensive however but worth it. also has a mike so you can take call in between songs. Just so you are aware back and forward skip sound and play pause works for the first media player you open and that one only. If you want to use it on another media player you'll need to shut all media players down and then open the music app you'd like to use.
It's rechargeable and has a wire if you run out of battery.
Anyone recommend any good in ear ones? Tried my old sony ericcson set... but it fails to work

not only the headphones supplied are good but i can use my other bose headphones when i want! u can plug in any headphones,
and another cool features was the ability to multi pair! i usually use two phones and my laptop on the move. so now i can listen to music from my laptop and choose to take calls from my desire. or listen to music from my desire and take calls from my E71.... etc

Indeed. Must be the nicest headset €50 can buy.
Etymotic HF2s here. They've got one button which plays / pauses music and answers the phone. Not quite perfect functionality, but good enough for me. Also has the microphone on it, and the quality is pretty good.
Of course, the headphones themselves are wonderful. I love my etys, but they are an acquired taste. If you don't like in-ear 'phones that go in so deep that they meet in the middle, these might not be for you

I am using my good old Jabra bt620 stereo BT headset and its working perfectly.
best headset i ever had
I use iPhone 3GS headphones. Volume control isn't really an issue for me seeing as i listen to music on full anyway and the pause button still works so its all fine.
I am now using Sony wm 600 for a week or so and am very satisfied.

Headphones for Sony Xperia S

Hi all,
Some of you know, that new Sony Xperia (2012) line phones use CTIA 3.5mm standard (basically same as Apple's iPhone). I have seen some phone reviews and noticed, that standard headset is in one piece, you cannot disconnect headphones. I am looking for headset, where you can unplug headphones and connect better ones, and of course it has to work with new Xperia S.
Something like we had with Xperia X10:

Difference between CTIA (Xperia S) and OMTP standard:

I'm curious if it's any better, if not I may just resell the freebie one I have had my MW600 for awhile, and I have yet to find better
You realize the mw600 won't work right on the xperia s if you just plug it in?
Sony changed the headset standard, to be compatible with the more widely used ctia standard (same as iphone). The pins are connected differently:
You can offcourse buy an adapter cable so that it will work.

you cant plug the MW600 into anything, its a stand alone bluetooth device that you can plug your headphones into. Unless you mean the headphones that might come with the Xperia, which I never use anyways.

Yea, it's a really nice little gadget I highly recommend it if you don't like all the wires. I always have my phone in my pocket or in a case on my side, because I am horrible with dropping phones.
I was on the Sony site looking at the new BT device, and apparently it has a seperate SD card for music and such, which could be big downside to owning that device if you are like me, and keeps a rather large music collection on your phone. With the small LED it would also make it a bit hard to dig through your music collection :/
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/smart-wireless-headset-pro/specifications/
Or it can go the other way....
Putting all the music to the BT devices SD storage would free up the space on the Xperia S :/ though with that space it's not really necessary to hold back...
meh, I dunno, I will see where this goes...It's over a week til I get even the phone anyways (I need to send in for the BT device apparently) we'll see from there how it goes.
I think the new headset can play music from the phone as well. And besides that it can act as a stand-alone mp3 player with the music on the headset itself.
So you could actually stick some extra music on the headset, it can take up to 32gb sd cards (a 2gb card is in the box).

sony xperia s......
I emailed Sony, hopefully they have a reasonable explanation. Cause if they don't know why I am going to be pissed.
"oh yes it is the standard 3.5mm jack" then they whisper "only works with some headsets", FAIL.
Have any of you compared the included headphones plug with one of the non working ones to see if they look similar or not?
I'm starting to get worried and thinking of canceling my preorder that is supposed to ship tomorrow...
Edit: Although after rethinking my question, that won't make a difference, both standards look similar... Hmm, I don't like the idea of having headaches when using different headsets...
They look the same. I had a buddy with a SGSII and his Samsung headphones work in the S AND he can use the sennheisers. Lame.
Headsets
HK being the crazy place that it is has a whole bunch of the headphones shops in the computer center, so I went around trying out a whole bunch of the headsets to see which ones work (HMV also does this too).
My testing included playing music and making phone calls and seeing if the button on the headset works.
Not an exhaustive list:
Sennheisers/Adidas are out (sucks cuz I want a pair of running ones)
Sony's are out (friggin' annoying)
Most that are iphone compatible are out
Jays One+ work (These are specific for Android) I got this pair
Marshall Minor FX work - I should have got this pair

Bluetooth headset with Caller ID (Stereo)

I'm an avid mountain biker and I would like to find a good stereo bluetooth headset with caller id which is compatible with the One X. When I'm biking the phone is stored in a zipped pocket and I would like to see who is calling without taking the phone out. Any recommendations?
Your only option I can think of are the Sony Ericsson products, get them quick though as I suspect they are no longer in production, given the changes going on at that company.
Found the perfect one!
Sony, (without Ericsson) are about to release an amazing stereo bt headset with an OLED display which even allows you to read messages and email. Supposed to be released on the 30th. I'm pre-ordering now
Check it out:

I use Jabra Sport with my HOX! If sweat, dirt and dust is your concern go with Jabra Sport no callerid though and your phone has to be close to the earpiece...
US mil spec Rain, sweat and shock protection.

@ozaghloul, Brilliant find thx mate. If those will be working as fine as the old MW600 this is going to be my next buy. although I would like to see some review first:S Perhaps if you get yours soon ?
[EDIT]
The UK Clove has committed short video of the pre-mentioned smart headset pro from Sony showing the full package contents and demonstrating its functionality and It can be found HERE
Mine has been delivered today morning and after the whole day of my playing with it, its been working flawlessly with my HOX and DHD (both phones running mike's roms) so Its a keeper for me and worthy replacement of the good old MW600
It's not the functionality of the phone that determines the called id part? I have the Plantronics Backbeat 903 stereo bluetooth headset (which is awesome, by the way, although I don't have any experience with other stereo bluetooth headsets to compare it with), but I've never tried to get it to read caller id.
If you can't get the caller id functionality you are looking for with the headset, what about adding a "smart watch"? Not ideal, but certainly better than stopping and taking your phone out of your pocket.

Try Tasker,
You will be able to easily set up a profile that will read a caller ID and set it so that it's only active when connected to bluetooth or a headset!
I'm confused. There are several.

It's how I found this post, too. (I have a note, and it's too big for pulling out just to see who's calling,. I'm using a 5-year-old Jabra BT810, it vibrates on an incoming call, too, which is nasty if you have it in your ear, but I wanted to see what was new. I'm surprised there's nothing stellarly better, but there's enough. No, I'm not selling it.)
This one looks OK, but it looks pretty dim in the YouTube video I looked at.

Actually there is something weird about it, with old MW600 once connect to laptop or wall charger its stops everything and start charging only.
The new headset continues to play but it doesn't show the battery charging animation. i will try full discharge tonight and test again.
Its not a biggie for me as it never has been a problem for me with the old MW600 though and the headset with the app from playstore does everything it says it might do

Its called Liveware manager, through that you can set-up the supported devices, and applications (there is few more extras in the play store, but I'm using only gmail, missed calls and calendar)
Sony provides their own app to manage all their "smart" accessories. I think its mostly to assure that all functions remain available to you, regardless phone and rom you might be using. (it turns on and off automagically every time you trigger your Bluetooth)
Hope that help and address your question correctly

GS3 Car Stereo - Aux Input issue

Hello everyone,
I have noticed an issue with my s3 and thought I'd ask around. I tried connecting my phone with my cars stereo using an aux cable but every time I do that the sounds comes through the phones speakers. Plugging the cable in and out once gets the sound through the car but it again stops if I change the song or if I receive a notification even.
It doesn't seem to be an isolated instance since i saw another person face the exact same problem on another forum. I'm thinking that maybe my 2 contact aux cables might be to blame here, but really don't wanna buy a third one before getting some input. I also guess it can equally be a software or even a hardware issue.
So has anyone else noticed this?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
i plug in to my car's aux jack all the time while using pandora and have had no problems.
what type of 3.5mm audio jack are you using, the really thick ones, or the thin ones? thick ones cause problems sometimes by not getting full contact(as the base is too big), had this issue with a new car stereo and my old g2.
basically, this is the one that's too thick, especially for aftermarket stereos:

To be honest the ones that i have ( both of them actually) appear to be too thick as compared to the OEM headphone's pin. Was the problem that you were facing similar to the one I am now i.e. sound starts playing sometimes and stops when u change the track ?
I have the same problem. Let me guess... you have to plug it in and out to make a call with earphones too?

Hey Zza1989, thanks for the reply. I havent made that many calls using the earphone, but when i tried it now it seemed to work ok. However the S3 seems to have a tough time detecting my cars stereo when plugged into it.
If you're facing the same issue with the aux, can i please know what car you are using it with. I replied on another forum where someone was facing the same issue and it turned out that we were both using the phones with Saab's. What about you ?

I'm actually using an aftermarket stereo by Sony. But I still get the same problem. I doubt it has anything to do with the car as the sane thing happens to me with my skull candy earphones ad well as my car stereo with aux connection. Only with the stock Samsung earphones provided with the phone does it work properly. And even then it's a little sketchy sometimes.

Ohh... So if you're facing issues with other headphones it might even be a hardware issue I guess. I think I'll send an email to Samsung support team and see if they respond or not :s
Kinda sucks for such an awesome phone !!

that's not the issue i had. the issue i had was that the sound was VERY distorted and low, but trying a smaller cable worked. try a smaller cable. they cost like 99 cents on monoprice, or amazon

Agreed. That's the only semi-major issue I've had with the phone so far. I hate to think what's going to happen when my earphones start to fail (I them extensively). I'll just have to buy new OEM earphones.
I would like to hear what kind of response you get for that email.

How to turn off "Listening..." when plugging in headphones

Hi,
Not sure if this is a Nexus 5X problem or an Android 6 problem, but Ive never had this before.
Just upgraded to a 5X, and whenever I plug in my headphones, Google now will come up saying "Listening..." as if I've instructed it to do a voice search.
I believe the headphone jack is shorting a connection, and making it think ive pressed the little button some headphones have, as this also happens when I only plug the jack in 3/4 of the way.
Is there a way to fix or turn off this behaviour? It's pretty annoying.
Cheers,
Jack

Only for Bluetooth, but it doesn't seem to do it when locked anyway. I guess I need that setting but global, not just for when the device is locked.
No one else got this problem?
Reckon I might have a defective unit?
No one else has this issue?
Reading around it seems to happen with a variety of LG phones, it can't detect when youre using a normal 2 band headphone jack as opposed to the 3 band headphones with microphone jack, so thinks you're "long pressing" the button on your headphones.
Surely there's a fix for this, or a way to disable google voice search? This is so annoying.

I think there's an issue with the 5X headphone jack. Some 3-band headsets work fine, yours seems to be behaving funnny, mine (Xiaomi Piston V2) don't work at all. There's a little more info here:

Maybe these threads should be merged?
Just ordered a replacement and the new unit is doing the same thing. Is no one else having this problem??

If it's happening with the second unit too I'm guessing the it headset you're using. What's the brand and model?

Theyre AKG headphones (cant remember exactly what model). They worked fine with my old Nexus 5, and work fine with my Moto G so it must be a 5X issue. It also happens with all headphones ive tested with 2 bands on the jack.
Mine does this as well with some cheap earbuds

Ended up sending it back, frustrated that a £370 phone has a defect that my £80 Moto G doesn't have :/
No such problem for me with my Samsung GS5 headphones. It is 3 bands on the plug. Gotta see if my Monoprice headphones is 2 or 3 bands when I'm back home.

My Xiaomi Piston (v3) and other random cheap ear buds have no issues.
I have the Bose IE2 earbuds and they have this issue, but only I'm guessing about 20% of the time. Shouldn't this be an all or nothing issue? Either the bands on the plug erroneously trigger the listening or not?

Is that a 2 band male end? I have 2 headphones, one of which I have 2 different cables for. All three cables have 3 bands and not having this Google Now issue.

It is the two band male end. Does anyone have a two band headphone that does not cause this issue?
