QI Case for Z1 - or QI dock port pad ? - Xperia Z1 Accessories

Is there a QI case for the Z1?
I figure a case could attach to the dock magnet to feed the QI receiver in to. Should be neat, no?
Even you could have a small magnet leading to a QI receiver pad and tuck it under something like the inside of the Roxfit book case. Like the universal USB ones do, but using the dock port instead.
But can't find that either.
Is there something out there?
(just got my Z1, woo!)

Hm. Nothing on mobile fun shows a qi solution for the Z1. I had checked there. There was one for the Z though.
I accept, I may be being really dim and just missing it :/

My modded powermat inductive charging case for the galaxy s2

I've been wanting inductive charging on my phone for ages, and got tired of waiting for a retail solution.
So I bought a cheap leather flip style case on ebay for £3 and a powermat battery cover and charge pad off amazon.
The battery cover was for a blackberry bold and cost just £5 on amazon uk, and the powermat pad was reduced to £10 on amazon uk.
How I did it:
I dissassembled the charging element from the powermat blackberry cover, it's just glued in so comes apart with a pry tool.
next I peeled the plastic holder from the leather flip case.
I glued the power mat charger element to the flip case behind the plastic holder and soldered a micro usb jack to the charger element.
Then glued the plastic cover back in flip case on top of the charger element.
Not bad looking for a first try and works a treat. No more wires needed to charge.
I Would've liked to have made a qi solution to be future proof, but the energizer plate is expensive and hard to find in UK, as are power receiver cases, i'm hoping my nexus prime will have qi built in when i get it!

Nice work! I think my charger gives me more freedom than an inductive solution, but this is a brilliant solution and it's beautiful too.
Very nice man ! Good job done there.

good job....waiting for a retail version
That's really cool! hehe +1 for you
Awsome modding man!
can you please make a tutorial on how to make such a thing with links to the products?
I've added a picture of the powermat charging element under the flip cases plastic holder.
I've refined it a bit now and made a much neater job of it.

powermat car charger
My next mod is going to be to mod a car bracket with a powermat charger so that i can just sit the phone on a cradle, hold it in place magnetically and have it charge whist i'm using the phone for navigation.
it should work quite well as the powermat element can deliver 5v at 1000mah - more than enough juice for navigation.
I've got everything but a holder/cradle for my car - as I currently just sit my phone in the recess in my vauxhalls dash where the clock is.
parts needed are:
spare power mat plate(amazon)
12v - 18v adapter(powermats supply voltage) A car laptop power supply i already have will do the trick.
Car bracket/holder for the galaxy
a few small magnets
I need a car bracket with a big "plate" to rest the phone on that can preferably attach to the vents - suggestions welcome

Tomtom has quite some solutions for attaching it to the air vents. You could mod one and attach so? Een sort of surface to it.
Tomtom has their own solution but there are a few third party solutions too. I would say about 35 euros.
mark 2 modded case
I have now modded a Casemate tough case to accommodate my powermat inductive charger. As can be seen in the pictures the inductive coil is stuck to the hard layer of the case and I have cut out some rubber from the the soft layer so that it all fits without being able to tell it has been modified.
I have a small nib type usb jack connecting the inductive coil to the phone( from a droid x powermat pack.
I have also added a few magnets to the inside of the case and some inside a powermat single position charger. this is now mounted on my car dash to provide an easy plug free charge whist driving - i will add some pictures for anyone interested soon
How did you modify the droidx usb nib to fit the hump on bottom back of phone? Mine bends when i plug it in
Good work folks
The Droid x nib fits neatly, I had to cut a notch in the case mate soft shell to make it fit properly. all I kept from the Droid x powemat cover was the nib, the 4 pin female port for the nib and the coil.

Just finished my PowerMat car charger project. It's a combination of several different parts put together. I used a Mountek mount to secure it, modified it to connect to an adjustable ProClip mount, then modified a Powermat 1X base to the ProClip mount. I powered this using a laptop car charger. I also removed the Powermat speaker because the turn-on chime was getting annoying every time I started the car.
For my phone, I'm using the parts from a Droid X Powermat cover and an Otterbox Commuter Case. As of right now, my only camera is my phone so I can't take pictures of it.
here are the links to the individual components:

Look s like a neater job than my car charger as I use one of those flexi spider thing s to hold the powermat in place - stuck to a vent. Hopefully Sammy will see the lengths people will go to to avoid plugging in and build qi into the sgs3

dang, this is awesome. wonder if its possible with the palm touchstone kit everyones been doing with the samsung galaxy S...
Looks amazing *__*
Maybe will do the same...
And I will have a look for smth. like this for my Sensation XE
Guys
I'm really interested in doing this.
1. Any chance of some good quality close up photo's of the USB connector and how you've wired it to the powermat receiver?
2. Any chance of documenting what wiring you had to do to receiver?
3. In the last series of photo's you've cut the powermat before fitting it to the in car vent holder, is there anything I should specifically watch out for before cutting the X1?
What I'm thinking of doing is fitting the receiver to an Otterbox case for a S2 and then mounting the X1 onto one of these.

Any help appreciated guys.
very nice job man! really like it
Any chance of updates from the guys who did this?

case for S3 with QI wireless charging

Ok so I bought a Qi wireless charging kit that included among other things a new back to accomodate the wireless charging of my phone. The only problem is that now my deender case does not fit my phone anymore. Anyone know where a person can get a case to fit the phone with the slightly larger back and preferably a case with a belt clip.
Thanks,
Alt
Sorry i cant help you with that, but mind me asking where you bought that kit? a link would be appreciated:good:
that's weird. I tried the defender case w/ my kit and it works just fine. fits without a problem and the pad still connects with the transmitter. did you somehow buy a shoddy bootlegged case?

Wireless Charging? with case??

Can wireless charging be used with a protective case?
What is the best wireless charging kit, I tried googling and there is a lot of different options, some are thick backplates some are thin pad that you seem to put between battery and back cover.
What are the best options? i'm sure someone here will know
Thank you
btw I have Ringke SLIM lite case, can that case work with wireless charing?
sticked thread. post #2.
i personally have the ballistic sg case.
others have reported that even the defender works.

I have the pad that slips under the stock cover and works fine. You can have a case on it up to the thickness of 2 CDs.
Be aware that some charging pads do better than others when it comes to the distance from the pad. I had an off brand one and it constantly lost connection with my Ballistic Maxx case(two layer case). The Lg charging pad I have has no problems with the case. It does lose connection with a 3 cd thickness.
I used cd's to simulate the thickness of the case before buying one.

could you provide a link to both the pad and charging station? just wanted to see which ones you recommend.
I don't have the link to the receiver that I have. It came with the generic pad that I have(and plan to return for other reasons). I purchased it from Ebay(from china) on a friends computer so I don't have the info.
Here is the link to the LG pad I have. http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronic...id=1368740737&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+charging+pad
The reason I got this pad was add it to a universal phone vent mount, so that I could charge the phone while docked in the car. I needed a small charging pad that would fit in the mount. It's much smaller than the phone so I don't know if I would recommend it for the home. Lg also has another model which is more like the standard type.

yeah, anytime you put some sort of obstruction in between the pad and transmitter it makes it harder for the charge to go through.
you just have to find a sweet spot. i made a dock that lines the pad (receiver) w/ the transmitter perfectly so it charges almost every single time on first placement. sometimes it requires a 2nd attemp before the charging beep goes off.

I've got this QI charger. http://goo.gl/AxJ8d and a pretty basic case that has a stand at the back. Here's a very short video I made of it working
http://goo.gl/xwGb1
It works 98% of the time on first attempt. Though if I place the phone down too softly it won't connect.

Car dock with wireless charger

Has anyone seen and\or used car dock with built-in QI charger?
I like this idea: http://www2.robpol86.com/guides/Wireless-Charging-Car-Dock/
Magnetic + wireless charging
Will it work on our devices?

Check out this IndieGoGo project for a wireless (QI) car charger, Air Dock. Sounds like that's what you are looking for. Funding ends in 29 days...
I used an old Samsung qi pad, a cheap universal mount, and a standard micro usb charging cable and made my own.

I found out the hard way that this will NOT work with our devices, for some reason. The new Nexus wireless charger seems to only work with Nexus devices. My Nexus 7 works fine with it, but my Maxx doesn't respond to it at all.
I use the LG Smart Fit 2, it works awesome waiting for iBolt to release theirs to try it out.

I pledged a couple days ago. Hopefully it works with the Maxx. I'm a little concerned that it might not be a free-positioning Qi charger. My Maxx is pretty fussy about how it is placed on cheap Qi chargers.
that Airdock looks awesome, let us know how it turns out.

I don't think that's a free-positioning Qi-charger, so that's largely to be expected. I have a couple TYLT Vu chargers. They work pretty well, although I need to center it on the charging dock within about a centimeter. That's not hard to hit, but that's supposed to be one of the most forgiving Qi chargers in terms of positioning.
I'm an early bird on Air Dock. I'll let you know how it works as soon as I get in February.
It said the Air Dock requires a glossy back to work, not sure how the Maxx's kevlar backing will go, but thats the only thing stopping me from ordering one right now.
There is a Nexus 5 version with magnetic field for better grip. I hope it will work all together.

I'm 99.(9)% sure that it has metal body/tray for components inside. So it should stick to magnets in the dock.

I have the Mountek nGroove Snap car mount that was used in the DIY charger linked in this thread. The mount comes with metal plates to attach to your phone so that they can be attached to the mount magnetically. The Droid Maxx attaches to the mount without the need of the plates. So yes, either a metal frame or its own set of internal magnets.
Interesting...I might spring for the Air Dock then.
Although it looks like it exploded in popularity and now the price is $63 and delivery a month later.
Good news, Air Dock has raised 60000!
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-air-dock
I can't wait when I get my early bird. I'll share my experience here once I get it.
yeah I do agree Air Dock is a faboulous item, but according to their timetable the first shipping will be on April...
Anyway do you guys think Air Dock will stick to TPU Gel skin cover?
The 'S' shaped one
I`m not quite sure about it..
I'm an early bird and I should get mine in February.
I think it should work with you case just fine. From my point of view it should grip even better comparing to Kevlar.

Why no QI case for Z1?

There is a QI case for the Z.
Sony's official QI solution for the Z2 requires their own QI case accessory .
So why nothing for the Z1?

It probably wasn't selling well. It is pretty pointless as there are pogo pins on the phone that can be used with a magnetic charging dock.
There has never been one.
The Z2 has the same connector and Sony don't view that as pointless.
Have you ever used a QI charger?
Far easier than the magnetic connector.
