Looking for info on flashing I747M (CANADIAN) to AT&T modems

tried it once without any luck. going back to stock telus ROM at the moment.
has anybody had any success flashing an AT&T modem onto an i747M?
i am using the telus variant
edit: reason i wanted to do this was b/c i was getting some consistent signal drops. after having to go stock telus -> CM10 nightly (8/20), i'll see if i'm still getting any drops. that was the reason i wanted to use an AT&T modem, but if the issue doesn't come back i'll withdraw my inquiry

I'm using 8/18 and I'm not having too many issues. CM has been my daily driver for 2 weeks. I'm on telus as well. I haven't tested LTE, but once I'm back at school I'll figure it out and make sure everythings working smoothly.

CM10 8/20 nightly works great, i'm not getting any of those signal drops i had from before. maybe the phone just needed a full wipe. anyway, i'm not too curious about flashing an AT&T modem anymore. it would be nice to have a choice of modems, but that's definitely the lowest on my list now that there aren't any drops

I am using the LLE8 stock Bell modem even though my firmware is the latest ATT LH1: I did attempt to flash the full LH1 leak including the modem, but lost my IMEI in the process. Seems the modems do not play nice across different carriers, even when the phone is an I747 -- the developers then removed the modem out of the firmware package and the LH1 release installed without any issues. So my experience is that the ROMs are quite compatible, ATT to Canadian users, the source code for the kernel is standard across all SG3 phones according to the developers and the experience of people using kernels irrespective of carrier designation BUT the modem (baseband) does not appear to be cross-carrier friendly. So until a fix is developed and/or one of the Canadian carriers updates their firmware, we are stuck with LLE8 or its equivalent..

yep. i came to the exact same conclusion. i'm not too worried about it; phone takes a few seconds to hop on to LTE where i am, but no big deal

Rom Question

Hello all.. I just purchased a unlocked note 2 from at&t from good 'ol craigslist lol... I have it flashed now to stock 4.1.2 with root. I plan to use this phone on t-mobile, and read forums about how you have to enable aws on the phone to get 3g/4g for their network. I also want to use this phone in the future for international use, as well as at&t's 4g and lte network. By changing the aws file, will I be able to achieve this?
Also in order to use call over wifi, I have to flash a tmobile rom as told by members on the forums, but there's also an international rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575 here, will this rom already have the aws band enabled or do I still need to enable it? I know it's kind of a lot to ask for a rom that covers everything, but what is the closest to it? Would using a tmobile stock rom hurt me in anyways?

You're posting in the wrong section, but I'll answer you anyways.
1. The AWS mod is independent from everything else, except modem flashes. Meaning no matter what you flash, unless you're flashing a modem, the mod will stick (remain functional).
2. All the mod does is enable the AWS band that is natively supported by the phone, but AT&T purposely disabled. It doesn't disable any functionality. The file itself is a modem memory (very very low level) backup from a T-Mobile model, with the IMEI removed so that yours does not get overwritten. It flips an internal switch to enable AWS support, just like the T-Mobile model. Aside from lack of wireless charging on the T-Mobile model, the AT&T and T-Mobile models are identical. This mod just turns on something that was artifically disabled. Your phone will work on both T-Mobile and AT&T (2G, 3G, 4G, LTE) perfectly.
3. Wifi calling is built into the ROM. It's only available on T-Mobile ROMs. You can flash an international ROM but you won't have Wifi calling. I can verify this as I'm using an international ROM.
The only things to watch out for:
1) ONLY FLASH AT&T MODEMs. And when you do (even if you're reflashing the same one that's on your phone), you have to reapply the mod. If you accidentally flash a different modem (say a T-Mobile modem), you'll lose your IMEI temporarily and your phone will reboot every few minutes until you flash back an AT&T modem. Don't freak out.
2) AT&T and T-Mobile ROMs are intercompatible across both models. But again, only use the modem for your device.

Thank you for this clear response! What will flashing the modem do for me, as far as advantages than the stock? I am not planning to do massive overhaul on this device, I just want it to be compatible with every carrier including it's data! Also when performing this aws mod, do I need to manually change any apn settings, or will it automatically be picked up by the phone?

Nothing really. Sometimes a new modem will improve power consumption or data speeds. Sometimes it'll do the opposite and you'll want to flash back the old modem. And if you don't care, you rarely ever have to do anything. The modems are stock modems btw. They're extracted from official OTA updates so that you can use them on any ROM. As for APN settings, they may or may not be automatically set by the SIM. If I remember correctly my T-Mobile SIM automatically set it up. It's not hard to do though.
By the way, all AT&T LTE devices work with T-Mobile LTE out of the box. This mod just enables it for 3G ("4G").

Ok i flashed the aws file but i only got edge speed! How do i manually change it to get lte or 4g
Edit 1.... Ok so it connected to 4G like 5-10 min later!! Also what is the main differences for an international labeled rom vs the tmobile rom for the att version? I mean since my phone is already unlocked, and have this aws mode enabled there's not a need for an international rom right?

Have a stock non-unlocked (no unlock) at&t phone with 4.2 android.
Could I use the 4.3 "no-knox" modem.bin I see in these forums that's for t-mobile and just ODIN it over top of the at&t 4.2 modem (mdl modem for at&t that came on the phone when it was purchased) and then use CWM to install a t-mobile rom and have the phone work under t-mobile?

No one should EVER do this. Never flash a modem that was not SPECIFICALLY made for your SPECIFIC device.

Ok so tell me please what you mean? Do you mean specific device hardware or ???
Because the only difference I see in the 2 phones, At&t S4 and T-Mobile S4 is all in the software for modem and rom. They are 100% identicle in hardware, even being factory set for bands both carriers use. I would never attempt this on Verizon or Sprint S$'s lol - but I am cinfused other than a different modem bin file and different rom, and different model number since its 2 diff companies, what is the difference?
I am confused.
If I cannot do what I noted, then how does one use an at&t phone on a t-mobile network? I am great at flashing modems, roms, recoveries - but my 1st time switching carriers on an exact same model phone. The phone itself is same model far as samsung makes it - only changes to different model when its branded at&t ot t-mobile and uses that companies rom and mode,m files. But isnt the hardware the exact same both places and couldn't the rom and modem files be swapped to allow it to work on the other one's system?
Please help what I need to do - if I cannot do what I asked about then what?

If the two phones ATT i337 and Tmobile M919 were as identical as you say they are and even use the same bands then
why is the gsm baseband (modem.bin) and the lte modem (non-hlos.bin) different enough not to be interchangeable?
Not even the STOCK 4.3 firmware or any of the zipfile custom roms here in xda are not identical enough
so we would not need to have two different and separate forums for these two phones.
First thing you need to do is to get your phone on the Tmobile network is to unlock it or have it unlocked.
Then you need to get a tmobile sim card and root the phone if it's not already rooted.
You will also need to flash cf-autoroot to root the phone and then flash a custom recovery like cwm or twrp.
Then last but not least you will need to flash a Tmobile custom rom from the Tmobile M919 forum.
None of the custom roms found here in xda contain modem.bin or hlos-bin images.
Those you already have in your phone will work fine even though they are NOT identical.
The two .bin images are setup so the two networks can establish GSM and LTE communications
between your phone and their towers using different bands and different frequencies.

Thanks Got her phone working ok. So the key was if unlocked, the at&t phone will work on t-mobile even with an at&t modem file on it I knew the 2 companies could be used on the other's network just did not know the modem file works both ways if unlocked. I assumed the hardware is the same on both phones so just flash a tmobile modem lol - I learned I was wrong thanks for ur help. Years of rooting and never had an issue with using one carrier on another carrier's network, was my 1st time

How to Update Android on Unlocked AT&T S3 I747 for MetroPCS/TMobile

Hey guys so I decide to get the SGH-147 AT&T S3 off of ebay for MetroPCS which enabled me to get a 2 year squaretrade warranty. After looking back at it now, I feel it might have been a bad idea since Metro has a MIR 349.99 deal for their S3 version which would mean easier android update since it would be on Metro servers if I'm not mistaken. Anyway I can't return the ebay phone now unless there is some software or hardware problems within 30 days
So my problem
I am stuck on 4.1.1 on Kies and when I check for update, because the phone is based on AT&T servers, it won't work since I'm on Metro. I wanted to see if there is anyway for me to update my phone to 4.3 which is the current version. Although, I've heard some people have 4.3 problems?
If that's not advisable, could y'all tell me how I could atleast get to Android 4.1.2? Also is there a 4.4 update in the works?
I just got the phone today and would like to be running on something better than 4.1.1

First off, if its I747, you MUST flash only those Roms. No others. Now, that's indeed a nice phone with LTE Antenna.
You really heard correct. The 4.3 upgrade from the carrier (ATT for you) /Samsung has a lot of issues. I wouldn't do it for any reason. Particularly on T-Mo network, you will have severe signal issues as reported by others. In addition, it now flashes an EFuse onto your phone along with locked bootloader and other scary stuff.I really would not do it.
Lastly, XDA is organized by devices. So even though you are a T-Mo/Metro PCS customer, you will have to post on AT&T SGS3 forum over there.
Speaking of Rom update, Please visit Root66 Thread for this device. You will find Rooted version of your Current Rom. Dunno why but he does not have 4.2.x for you. Please do your research someone else must have posted it.
Now speaking to 4.3, yes there is a way to get 4.3 on your phone without the issues I mentioned above. THANK YOU! Looks like I got a lot of phone work to do over the weekend. SO do you think it was good/should I stick with this AT&T S3 or should I try to sell it for a discount and buy a Metro PCS S3? The ebay buyer won't take my phone back unless there is a hardware or software problem inherent to phone...unless I fake one ?

If it was me, I'd keep the phone. Metro's S3 does not have LTE Antenna. You'd have been stuck at lower speeds.

Metro's s3 does have lte
As for the OP you can flash at&t or T-Mobile ROMs it really doesn't matter because they are backwards compatible (I have done it) and you can flash 4.3 ROMs if you don't want to take the official 4.3 update which you can easily do with Odin without the need for kies or ota.. Now, I suggest the first thing you do is flash a custom recovery and then experiment with 4.3 ROMs, if you keep having problems flash 4.1.2 roms.. There are some things you need to do though to get 4.3 up and running so I suggest you read up on it first. Good luck my friend!

Is it possible to install a T-Mobile rom on the Verizon S4?

I would like to install a T-Mobile Rom or at least the flash the modem files on a Verizon S4. I switched it to T-Mobile prepaid and I feel it would have better service if I did that. Is this possible? I tried flashing basebands and a rom (i don't remember which one) and it didn't work.

You won't get better service. Only thing you can do is update modem for YOUR device, and make sure you have correct apn. Flashing rom is possible I believe but don't know the procedure, try searching the verizon forums

If flashing a T-Mobile rom won't help then I won't even bother. So updating the modem for my device may help reception for another carrier even though the baseband is for Verizon? Unless my understanding of modem/baseband is wrong. I thought that was what told the phone how to communicate with that particular carrier.

It may to some extent, but modems are not interchangeable with these devices
