[Q] magnetic smart cover - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Accessories

Does kindle fire hdx work with magentic attached screen covers?
Similar to this cover:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MF054LL/A/ipad-air-smart-cover-blue?fnode=3b
I can't seem to find any for the kindle hdx 7.
I don't want a case that covers the back, only a cover that will protect the screen when it's not being used.

There's no ferrous metal on the front bezel to adhere to. They're all in the back.

Thats unfortunate. Thank you.

The Origami case is awesome. It has magnet in the cover strong enough to hold the device on the side of my fridge when I am following a recipe or watching a show. Pretty thin back cover too. A little expensive, especially the genuine leather version, but I am thoroughly satisfied with it.

Looks nice, but could we fold the cover flap fully to the back, in case we want to hold the tab in book reading mode
I just ordered one of those from amazon.
Bad thing is that for me, shipping was even more expensive (15$) than the cover itself (14$)...
I think you can fold the cover flap fully to the back, in case you want to hold the tab in book reading mode. Take a look at a video on youtube about this case, but ipad version. Search for "Review: Acase Slim Leather Folio Case with Stand for iPad 2".
doesn't look like it. there's no crease on the front cover like the ipad case i have.
i bought one earlier and it should be here next week. now i'll have a matching set for my ipad, gt7 and gt10.1.

Aw man, didn't see that. If only it is a mistake with the pictures and the cover we receive is OK... I think that crease helps you type on the best position. Well, you know better that you have the I pad version.
you can rest the bottom on the "latch" and put in a slightly upraised position. i just find it a little too bouncy when doing that while typing.
I have the same case for my 7" Galaxy Tab and am very happy with it. The quality is that of a much more expensive case. If I had not already bought another case I would be picking one of these up.
Unless I am seeing it wrong in the photos the problem with this case is that you have to constantly detach it from the BOTTOM HALF of the TAB to use it in a tilted position. This is how that $90 Zenus brand carbon fiber case I bought and returned worked. It was a real PITA plus it will eventually wear the paint off the tab.
i prefer that than the extra thickness (like belkin folio case). i haven't had any chipping or scratching on either of my other tablet's yet, but i did bend all those tabs a bit after getting them to make it easier to pull out. i even loosened the cover latches a bit too.

Minimalist Case?

I'm trying to decide what to do for protecting my Kindle. All the cases I've seen add quite a bit of bulk, but just a screen protector doesn't seem like enough. Are there any ultra-minimal cases out there that do the job without getting in the way?
If I were looking for minimalist, I would probably look at TPU cases like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/JustCase-Extreme-Amazon-Kindle-Packaging/dp/B0064S7YQU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324322423&sr=8-1
Not going to be as protective as the ones that cover the screen as well, but might be more your style.

I wanted a very thin shell to only protect the KF from being scratched in my tote bag. I got this one, and I like it, although it wasn't cheap. It covers the screen and you can fold the screen cover into a stand. It's very thin but solid and looks great.

It looks like the Acase microshell is the same but at 1/3 the price

That acase just doesn't fit right.
Well, the plastic backing fits really well, but the flap on the front bugs the heck out of me.
It doesn't have enough fabric on the hinge part so it doesn't close 100%, won't fold back 100% and generally just makes that flap get in the way.

I highly recommend this case if you want something to "fix" the power button placement/sensitivity issue. I have bumped the power button on my Fire way too many times and occasionally had a dead/low battery because it turned on in my laptop bag or gym bag because the power button was bumped too many times. This case is very minimalist and does not at much to the weight or bulk. It lets you have a recessed power button and some protection against bumps. My price through Amazon was $9.95 with free shipping. I bought two, one for me and one for my wife.

I received the case below for Christmas and am quite happy with it so far. The one reviewer on Amazon gave a poor review because the magnets were apparently originally advertised to turn the Fire on and off like the ipad smart cover (it doesn't). Despite that discrepancy, it's a nice slim, minimal case if that's what you're looking for.

I second this, using it now and it doesn't have any issues that I'm seeing the Acase has. You can comfortably hold it in your hand with the front cover laying flat. it is a bit expensive but it's definitely worth it. Plus I can stick it in my front pocket

I agree as well. I've been using this case for a week now. I am very happy with how little bulk it adds and how well it fits. Highly recommended.
Just got the marware today, and love it.
http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Lightw...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324331676&sr=1-1
Replacing a cheap acase that had a border that hugged the screen nicely, but made it near IMPOSSIBLE to hit settings and bring up the bottom nav bar. Whatever you do, don't get something with a border, get something that snaps on the back, and leaves the screen completely clear.
Marware one doesn't seem to stand as well as my acase, but the acase wouldn't close all the way.

Kindle Fire Case - Trent IMP78B - Review

I purchased this case late last week and it was delivered yesterday.
For $14.95 it seemed like a great deal. The case is mostly soft leather and seems to only come in one color/style (more on that later).
The Fire slides into a pocket in the case w/o a struggle. You can stand the Fire up horizontally at a couple of angles. The case is held shut with a magnet in the flap. There is also a flap (not seen in the photos linked to above) which helps hold the Fire in place. With the Fire inside and case closed, the width of the case is just over 1"
There is another pocket inside and the outside has a pocket with a plastic cover where you can put a picture or something else I suppose.
The stitching was solid and in general the case appears to be very well made.
Since this was my first Fire and my first case, I wasn't really sure what I wanted. After getting this one, I decided I wanted something thinner. The case, with all the pieces and multiple flaps, just felt too bulky.
Then there was the style. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but the pictures didn't convey to my brain what it would really look like. For some reason, despite what the pictures show, I was thinking it would be a basic brown. Clearly my fault. This is where I first saw it and never really looked at the pictures on Amazon which do a much better job of showing what it really looks like.
I am returning this case to Amazon and will be buying a different one.
I believe this is a good case and a great value. My only problems were it's too bulky for me and the style is too "busy". I would recommend this case if those items aren't an issue for you.
Yeah, I believe someone posted this case in the "Best case for Kindle Fire?" thread. The one thing that instantly makes it a no for me is the color.
It's a nice case but the pattern on the outside is not for me.

[PIC] Yet Another Poetic Slimline Review

I just got my poetic slimline today. Have been using the ASUS travel cover and I believe I will say goodbye to that. I struggle for a while choosing between the poetic and moko. I ended up with poetic because of the 3-year warranty and the better protection around the buttons.
Followings are my impression:
1. Thinner than I expect. It works with my Samsung Qi charging pad also!
2. All openings are precisely cut.
3. The cover lays flat and securely on the screen.
4. It does have magnet to hold the stand when the cover is folded.
5. Auto sleep/awake works perfectly. Tried over 10 times and it never misses.
5. I don't need to worry about the metal (on the moko ultra-slim) scratching the screen.
More pic:
Cannot go wrong with this case at this price. It's backed with 3-year warranty!
I just got one also and can confirm its a great case, it feels nice wrapped around the device.

Seems to me that this is for the old nexus 7.
Am I correct ? (I don't see cut for the other speakers)
No its the 2013 version. Did you miss the pic with the camera cutout?

The first to pics show the speaker cut outs. Just got mine the other day. Nice case.
Can't help it but all those 3rd party cases look pretty crappy compared to the official premium case or apples smart cover. Wonder why no 3rd party company can hit the quality materials and build quality.
Can I ask you a question. If you open the front cover and hold the device with the front cover touching the back cover does it put your device to sleep. Mine does and I have to let the front cover hang when I am using it which is really annoying. I wanted to see if I just got a dud or not. I am going to return it for another one yet if others are having the problem I will just go with another company.

In the flesh, the Poetic case is nicely finished. If it was leather I'd stay with it. The quality of fit and feel is definitely superior to the Nillkin and it costs 1/4 the price!

Sometimes if my case is open with the cover behind the tablet and I turn the tablet on and then slide to unlock instead of unlocking it turns off.
But if the device is on and the cover is folded behind I don't have an issue.

So do I and I stand by my statement. The Nillkin is much flimsier and the cover has no way to keep it closed. To each his own , no?:good:

you sure ? it feels like leather though I have to admit I've never seen leather this thin before. easy enough to test, if it melts, is not leather.

Anything like ipad smart cover for nexus 7?

Only want to protect the front, something like the iPad smart cover that hook onto the side. I have a skin behind so i don't want to block it with a case

I'm also looking for something similar. Either something just for the front or something thin/clear on the back. What is the slimmest case/cover available for decently cheap? Not really worried about dropping it; just want something to protect it inside of a coat pocket and looks decent

The official Premium Case or Poetic Slimline case are probably the closest you'll get. The latter is my preference.
I'm surprised no manufacturer has worked out a way to adhesively attach a screen cover like the Slimline's onto the edge of the tablet, you'd just need a moulded plastic strip to run down the left edge of the machine covered with some non-permanent adhesive a la the Dodocase that the actual cover was attached to. Then you'd have something that works a bit like the iPad smartcase without the magnets.

The poetic slimline is still too bulky for me. It essentially triples the thickness with that extra back layer plus it hides skins.
I too am surprised; it seems fairly straightforward to make...

Thats a pretty good idea. The only thing could be tricky is the magnets hold the cover down on the iPad.
This is the only case I've seen which has a "transparent" back.
I've not seen it in the flesh, so I don't how how good they are, or if they can be shipped overseas.

It seems more white or translucent than clear. Are there any cases out there that just cover the front? (Like a keyboard case just without the keyboard so it's essentially just a plastic cover) Or maybe something like what Logitech has for their keyboards where it covers the device but when removed can act as a stand.

Not to mention that Apple patented the magnetic latching mechanism that holds the cover on, so any other cover like that (with no back) would need to either find an alternative method (like the adhesive mentioned above) or license the technology from Apple. Or just do it and wait to get sued...
I bought the rooCASE Origami case from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Google-Tablet-Origami-SlimShell/dp/B00ET9H588
It's thin enough and functions very much like the iPad Smart Cover, with the additional benefit of allowing the N7 to stand on portrait mode.
The biggest problem: for landscape mode, where you fold the front cover just like the iPad, the magnet in the front cover WILL turn OFF the Nexus 7. I asked for a replacment form the seller (she said it's defective), but the replacement did the same thing.
