[Q] What charger are you using? - Sony Xperia ZL

Hey everyone.
I noticed a lot of people have been having battery problems.
Not poor battery life, but the issue some people are having where they can only use their phone while its plugged in.
My question is what charger, more specifically, what charging cable is everyone using?
I've noticed that if I used one of my Samsung charging cables to charge this phone, it takes FOREVER! Where the Sony cable that came with the phone charges it literally 3-4 times faster.
The charging cube or block doesn't seem to matter as I am using a blackberry cube with both cables.
I have a feeling that using the wrong cable could be causing people issues with their battery. Like its not providing the battery the correct voltage or something, causing a malfunction.
I don't really have any proof or specific knowledge to base this on, its just a hunch.
So what'd your charging setup like?

yeah it charges much faster in sony charges than a samsung charger for me.acually your device wont accept power more than its requirement but unless the chargers and cables are faulty (defective)it may cause battery issues

Have that problem, and I'm not using the original charger; Using Motorola with motorola / nokia cable; Still...today you have 1 thousand different options to charge usb units, and as long as they're not defective, they should charge ANY certified product with no problem at all.
What I mean is I don't have any other cellphone who had trouble with that on past; if charger is 0,25A will charge slower, if it's 1,5A will do faster.

Official ZL cable and charger and no battery problems so far.

Note 2 charger, sometimes HTC sensation charger, powerbank and laptop with BlackBerry Bold 9700 cable sometimes htc cable...so far so good...

I had a zl charger which used to take forever to charge the phone. I both an 1amp original charger that also took about 4 to 5 hrs to fully charge so I bought Samsung note 3 charger with 1.5amp rating and it charges in e hrs approx. Yes cable matters it has to be high duty one

Original cable and charger here!
No problems so far!

Any charger available actually I lost my original charger I loved that charger and one more thing samsung micro usb doesn't stay attached for long little movement and its unplugged

Original Sony charger here. And yes the use of multiple charger with different voltage will reduce the battery life and cause some malfunction. Search in Google there is a lot of confirmed info of this issue

[Q] Real 2A car charger. Which one??

Yesterday I've been navigating again with Navigon on my SGS2, but unfortunately it slowly drains my battery. When using google maps it dous charge the phone. So apperently Navigon is using a lot more 'juice' compared to Google map navigation.
Do you people know a charger (I assume one of 2A, while my own charger is an 1A charger) which does charge the phone with bluetooth, gps and Navigon running?
I bough a 2.1A car charger from belkin and I still have battery drain.
Even with the phone detecting it correctly as AC CHARGEr.
Hmmm that's to bad
Ordered a 2A charger from ebay myself.... But I doubt it will work, especially after reading your message.
I think the phone only takes a maximum of Amps for charging, even though it uses more. Resulting in a slow battery drain.
Note that it will stopped charging if the battery gets too hot to avoid damage or possibly exploding the battery.
Obviously having a higher rated charger will heat the battery more, so make sure the phone has its back ventilated, and try avoiding direct sunlight.
Read of several people that had this issue, but got their phones charging when avoiding overheating it.

Try the Rockfish premium charger. It's 2A and looks nice.

has anyone had any luck with the motorola charger? I bought one for my nexus one + car dock and it always worked fine... have yet to have a chance to use it for my SGS2 though..

But that's a bit strange, because a charger should deliver what a phone is asking for. As far as I know, a charger doesn't push the charge to the phone. But we will see, if the phone does get overheated, then that will be the end of the charger.

You're mistaken.
The thing that you plug into your car, that's called a power supply.
The real charger is built into the phone. That's the charging circuit that will shut down the charger, stop drawing power from the power supply when the phone gets too hot.
I doubt the phone will be able to take 2A, and the circuits will prevent the phone from drawing 2A of current.
#1. So, what you're looking for is actually a power supply that provides suficient current. Most car chargers will be about the same.
The power supply is connected to your phone via cables. Badly made cables will not be able to supply more than 200mah, and as a result you're going to take a really long time to charge your phone, and with a high drain application going on, you're not going to be able to charge your phone.
I had that exact same problem previously, and it was because of a lousy batch of oem cable I bought from ebay. Original, and other brands of oem cables worked fine.
#2. You need to buy some proper cables. I buy from www.monoprice.com, because I like my cables to be gold plated.
Edit: No, I'm not related to monoprice. I just love my gold cables plated heads. Can't find them cheaper anywhere else.
But the quality of the cable is not the only thing. The phone should also see the charger as an AC charger instead of an usb charger. This can be done by connecting the middle pins in the usb cable. Otherwise it will only charge with 500mA.

Is there a car charger you can buy that does this automatically? (i.e phone thinks it's plugged into AC rather than USB). I'd rather not plug anything i've been messing about with into my beloved SII.
It's not about the charger but about the cable you're using.

Slow charging

Got my Verizon gnex a couple weeks ago. I have a habit of just charging it every night that has carried over from my Droid incredible 2. But on the off chance that I am charging before 9:30 or 10, I have noticed that it charges incredibly slowly and actually drains while browsing the Web with WiFi. I have been using an older cable, is there some new micro usb voltage or something? Are you experiencing similar charge speeds?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Charging off the wall plug or a USB port on a computer? USB ports will at the most put out 500mA at the port, with some line loss via the cable you won't charge barely at all. Most wall chargers are 1A, and will charge faster. An old cable can't be helping with that either.

First of all, if it drains while using and charging it at the same time, then this can cause plenty of battery issues. I've charged my Nexus on low voltage circuits, such as the ones on many ferries and while there are no immediate problems with it, once I fully charged Nexus when home and used it the next work day I had problems. Once the phone had discharged to the range it was when I was charging and using, it completely froze and after restart had lost ~20% battery charge.
So it's never recommended to use the device while charging it with low voltage (this can be the case also when charging through your computer).
It's recommended to charge the device through a wall outlet and (possibly) with the official charger that came with the product (or one with same parameters).

Battery full charge takes 5 to 6 hours

Hi all
How much time does it take for you to fully charge your xperia zl from 0 to 100. Mine takes more than 5 hours. This is unusual. Dining send it for replacement.

Are you using the wall charger or just through USB on the computer?
I use the charger+cable which came with the phone, and it takes like 3-4 hours to charge it completely.
I use wall charger I even got a fast charger with 1500mA rating still it takes more than 5 hrs
Sent from my C6502 using Tapatalk
Are you using it while it is charging, or do you leave it with the screen off to charge?
I have left it without using still it takes 5 plus hours. Tried multiple such combinations

After market cable can cause this because it has low amp output, I also faced the same issue if I use 3rd party cable, using original or cable that rated atleast 1amp output will shorten charging time.

I am using ep850 charger. The cable doesn't specify the rating how do u guys know the rating of cable. However the cable came with y ep850 1500mA charger

Might be value in testing charging while the phone's actually powered off... (might be some significant power drain from a running app...)
Hello everyone
I also noticed that my device takes a while to load
However I noticed my charger shows the model EP-880 1500mA
I believe that may be a firmware issue
edited
I was using another cable that originally came on my Xperia Mini which are both different models (using was to be longer)
So I started to use the original (Cable Model EC801) and now loads faster
I noticed that the cable Xperia Mini has two boxes (which would be a resistor or something?) In the middle of the cable, and ZQ does not have any of them
What are the specifications of the official Xperia ZL charger as I bought my phone without the charger and I had to buy another Sony charger separately and I don't know if it is the official one or not, if any one can post a picture of the charger, that would be very helpful.

ZL charger has 1.5amp output, just search for any charger that has this output or more. You can charge with 1amp charger also but it will take a longer time and ur charger will become too hot once it charge in a longer period. It will shorthen ur charger lifespan.
Other than that, ur cable output capability also play important role, search for atleast 1amp output cable, more amp more good but a bit expensive. Just google the spec of the cable or ask the seller.

Guys I confirm that mine was also because of the cable. I took Samsung cable and put it in my charger head. Now the charging is ok

Looking for good charger

Hello,
The charger i've received with the phone seems to be cheap and not good enough, someone can recommend a good one?
Thanks
I'm using a blackberry original charger with 5v and 800mAh and this gives me ~3 hours of screen on during in ~ 40hours of usage.
In this time I make phone calls for ~1h ,I keep data on only in needed.screen brightness is set to auto75℅.I don't play games too often.WiFi stays on for about 20h.
I observed that using a lower amperage for charging, battery drains slower.original charger has 1.2Ah and charge the battery in about 2 h.this 800mAh blackberry charger does it in ~3.5-4h.
Try to charge your phone from a USB 2.0 port.it will take longer, but you'll notice some increase in battery lasting.
I use about 4 different chargers and they all do the same job for me. I generally look for USB chargers that can do more than 1Amp and that seems to work fine for my Optimus G.

i tried a cheap 2amp Charger (Russian copy or something of a Samsung Charger) and it worked oki for like 2weeks, but what i noticed was that it didn't charged my phone faster then the original LG charger (I am running CM11/Android 4.4.2)
Can someone suggest a decent car charger?
I have tried several types but they barely keeps the phone from discharging when screen and GPS are active.
Use a charger which has 4.8-5.0V output with 1-1.2A or 1000-1200mA rating. My phone charges up in about 2.5hours and lasts more than a day considering I use little amount of wifi, more of texting and less of phone calls.

I was using amb charger of 1 ah and it was good . Yesterday i bought hama twin port charger with original Nokia cable . Thats also a good combo . What matters most is keep phone temperature to minimum during charge . I ve noticed one battery temprature reaches 35 degree celsius or + , it would not charge and just drain .

sometimes I plug in and I see slow charging. When I check battery status it's written Charging (USB) there. I unplug then plug in again and : charging (AC). What's the reason for that?
I'm using stock ROM and stock charger.

There are lots of different quality USB cables. I had a rubbish one that actually discharged instead of charging it was that bad.
Get different cables (try and borrow your friends' cables) and run the app Galaxy Charging Current from the play store. This will give a charge current trading for your cable/psu combination. If your psu is a genuine 2.0 Samsung charger then a good USB cable should charge at 1900mA. Rubbish ones can be anywhere from 100mA worse than charging over USB from a computer) upwards.
