[Q] Odin keeps on failing on S3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys i am trying to use odin to downgrade from android 4.3 to Android 4.1.1 but for some reason it keeps on failing in odin. And now i am stuck in "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". How do i know if i have the correct stock file? I downloaded 4.1.1 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1...e=TLS#firmware.. why is it keep on failing? i have checked and kies is off and i am using the original samsung cable odin recognizes the phone but it "fails"
please help

Do you have an AT&T s3? If you do, you cannot downgrade the 4.3 bootlaoder using desktop Odin and there is no stock AT&T 4.3 ROM.

Be thankful Odin failed because if it hadn't you probably would have had a bricked phone on your hands now. Like the senior member already advised, you can't downgrade the bootloader on the 4.3 to an older system. Desktop Odin tries to flash most partitions which is why it failed. If I may ask, why are you trying to downgrade to 4.1.1? If it's to free unlock the phone, you may be advised that there haven't been conclusive results on the viability of this process. It's possible to downgrade the system itself without downgrading the bootloader by flashing with other methods apart from Odin. I'm not aware, however, that anyone's been able to unlock even after this.
It's unlikely you'd be able to use Kies to recover from the phone's current situation as Kies will likely try to update to 4.1.1. If it isn't booting or working normally, you may try doing a hard wipe from recovery. If your phone still has warranty left on it, you may try an authorized service center. I am also assuming you are using an AT&T phone? You may be able to get it fixed at Best Buy

1-ALJ or any lower than 4.1.2 require you not to just Flash a ROM, downgrade requires a full Wipe. (VolUp+Power+Middle Button , then wipe data/cache).
2-make sure your model is N7100 , and not N7100T or SGH.
3-KIES MUST BE NOT RUNNING IN BACKGROUND OR RUNNING AT ALL! You can simply uninstall it.
4-try installing the drivers again, and use a different USB Port.
I also have same problem please help me

Place your cell in Download mode, then use Odin to insert the official android 4.3 package.

Start up Kies (no cellphone connected), then go to Tools / Firmware Upgrade
It will ask you for the model number, so put that in.
Then it will ask you for either the serial number or MEID, so put that in, too.
Then it should download a big-ass android package (around 1.5 gigabytes).
After the package is decrypted, copy it from the temp directory to some safe place on your local hard drive.
Use Odin in Download Mode to install this package.
The package should end with .tar.md5
If you accepted the official OTA 4.3 update, and you tried to revert your bootloader back to before KNOX... you're lucky since that should have completely hard-bricked your phone. I think, given to your description and assuming you've got the KNOX bootloader now, your best bet would be to try to repair the install by doing what I think is referred to as a "dirty" flash... which basically means you don't format or wipe your data before you attempt another installation of the same version.
I don't know for sure though, so don't take my word without someone who knows more verifying or refuting this.
Good luck, I'll be interested in seeing what you wind up working out.

I downloaded the mk3 modem, and flashed it in odin, it fixed the softbrick. i rooted it with cf-auto and it went through no issue. disabled knox no problem, and now got cwm working.

[Q] Rooted or what?

After several coding attempts, my Note 2 LTE has finally been unlocked from EE.
It was on JB 4.3 but now I notice that it is on 4.1.2 but I'm unable to contact the unlocker at present.
I tried to do a software update to get back to 4.3 but get a message that 'your device has been modified and SW updates are not available'.
Does this mean that it was rooted to achieve the Sim unlock and if so, how can I tell?
Is there another way to revert to 4.3?
Download a ROM on Sammobile and update your phone with Odin or Mobile Odin.

Thanks for your help.
Does the phone have to be rooted for this? I've just been advised to run Antutu and according to that, it's not rooted.
TBH I'm a bit (OK a lot) scared to do something that's gonna brick my phone.
All I really want is a working phone with the latest updates.
No need to be root, if something fail you can reflash with another usb port until it works.

[Q] CanNot upgrade SGH i747

The problem with the device is that its not updating itself.it is on android 4.1.1 ,every time I try to update it by using WIFI it says "updating interrupted and firmware is of latest version." I try using kies but it says "latest version firmware".
would you please assist me in upgrading the phone and plz answer the following. Plz be advised that I have no Access to AT&T.
1> Is there any computer software by which I can update my device (not kies), like VERZION has "Verzion wireless software upgrade assistance". Is there such a pc software of AT&T?.
2> As I mentioned earlier do I must be connected to AT&T or will it be possible that I keep on try updating by WIFI and software will arise?.
your help will be highly appreciated.
Wait stop trying to use the ota for a moment. Do you have any warranty remaining? Do you want to get stuck with a locked bootloader? And loose the ability to flash Odin tar's when you book the phone up? Once you take the MJB bootloader you're stuck like chuck.
If you don't mind custom (that you can use triangle away and Odin to make say official again) check out something like S3Rx in the development section. It gives you 4.3 (the latest update) it fixes a bunch of 4.3 bugs and let's you run MJ2 bootloaders which allow you to downgrade as you please...

[Q] Trying to Downgrade to 4.1.2

Hello,
I'm trying to downgrade my Canadian Note 2 (SGH-i317M) from 4.3 back down to 4.1.2 but I'm having some issues.
First off, the Sammobile.com firmware site doesn't even have the file available anymore. I tried getting it for Virgin Mobile, but it says the file isn't found so I guess they deleted it off their servers. Since it should be exactly the same for any of the 3 carriers and their subsidiaries I tried flashing a Telus version and a Bell version but both failed to flash in Odin.
After the failed flash I get the yellow firmware failed text screen and it telling me to do an emergency recovery in Kies, which of course I can't do.
So, does anyone know why the flashing is failing?
Thanks

Looks like you have to do the battery pull/boot into recovery/factory reset steps described in the thread linked above.
I have the same problem. I have i317m though. I got 4.1.1 but can't get rid of the modified status, nor will it accept 4.1.2. Done that how to 5 times. Darn knoc had to mess up the fun.
Try installing 4.1.1 via odin
