[Q] Z1 Compact on ATT 4G LTE Network - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to use Z1C on ATT 4G LTE network in USA ?
If so , can you post the APN settings.

It doesn't have the 700mhz band for LTE. Most areas use that for LTE so most likely you are out of luck

I do some light surfing and a lot of Reddit and Facebook throughout the day. I don't know if LTE coverage is bad here, but I haven't noticed any network speed difference between my Z1C and my S4.

Here's LTE on att. Got lucky certain parts of the metroplex use bands that work on the z1c

That is good news, but can you guys post here the APN settings from your phone in Settings - More - Mobile networks - Access Point Names
because I am only getting 3.5 Mb download speed, I am in Missouri.

Again depends on the area and make sure att has you on the lte data and not just the Hspa+ stuff that sometimes happens when you give them the IMEI of a non att smartphone

Thanks for the info. I had ATT Galaxy S4 Active with LTE, I use same SIM card with Xperia Z1C.
My APN settings are same as the one here, but in my area I only get HSPA+, which is still good enough for me.

How does AT&T identify your xperia z1 compact on their network? Their customer support is telling me it is an unknown device and won't work with mobile data. I can text and make phone calls, but mobile data doesn't work.
I just need to know what to tell them so mobile data will work, because switching to T-Mobile would mean no service in my area.

When you put your sim in did you download the settings? I did that and got my data to work.
On att end I always give them an IMEI off an att lte device so that I get the right data plan but switching to mobile share I don't worry about it anymore

oh, so giving them my D5503's IMEI was a mistake and I should have just left it with my old galaxy S3 IMEI? Well there goes some money wasted in activation fees.

An At&t employee here. You don't pay any activation fee for activating a customer owned device on the account. Also your previous imei is still on the notes so you can call back and tell them to change the imei back to what it was. Tell them the date and time when you changed the imei and that will help you get your s3 imei. My z1 compact works fine on the network and I have a moto X as my imei.
With all of my at&t branded phones I got lte everywhere but with this phone I get it in some places like at work but not at home. Or maybe the Z1 compact just isn't lying to me and the at&t branded phones are. Could be a possibility but no matter cause I'm getting 13 down on hspa+

Testing with speedtest.net by Ookla, my D5503 Xperia 1 Compact on AT&T in San Diego shows 6.7 Mbps down and 0.86 Mbps up. No LTE here.

I bought mine online from UK and it comes with Euro version firmware.

This is very encouraging. I'm looking to get Z1C to get off of contracts on AT&T and eventually move over to T-Mobile since their coverage in the suburbs has way improved over the years.

I have also received LTE and I live in Indiana!

I just bought mine and am coming from a Moto X. It should arrive soon. What should I do to ensure that LTE/HSPA+ works? I see that I should enter the APN settings but what do I do for the IMEI #?

I am on ATT too and thinking on buying a Z1 Compact; but also worried about LTE coverage in my area (Fort Myers, FL)
Does any one know if band 17 (700) is used here?
I would love to have a smaller but powerful phone like this. Now on Xperia ZL, which I like, but it is not waterproof and does not have a 20 MP camera.

AT&T 3G data network on the T-Mobile G2

Hello everyone, this is my first thread so please be gentle!
I currently have a G1, and hope to put it to rest very soon, and get the new G2!
(staying true to the "G")
I use an AT&T sim card on my current G1.
I have been lurking (for quite some time now) on these forums trying to find an answer to using the AT&T Sim Card on the G2. I have yet to find my answer through searching.
The capabilities I'm looking for to use on a G2 with an AT&T sim card include:
at least 3G network data speeds
normal use of calling
(I live in the US, and I don't know if that allows me to have 3G instead of EDGE)
Some things I have found:
In one other forum it said the AT&T would work on the G2, however it would only work on the EDGE network. (which I believe is 2G? please clarify if you can)
"
TMO's 3G network runs on the 1700Mhz spectrum.
AT&T's 3G network runs on the 850 and 1900Mhz spectrum.
The G2 is incapable of operating on AT&T's 3G network but will work just fine on the EDGE network.
"
the "[Guide] Subsidy Unlock, SuperCID, and Radio S-OFF" presents a sim unlock, so would that mean I could use the 3G data networks on AT&T? and have local calling? or is that something else?
Thanks in advance!
The Subsidy Unlock would allow the use of the AT&T sim card. I'm quite sure you wouldn't get the 3G+ speeds. Edge only, just like the G1.

That was from someone in the sim unlock thread. Not sure if any network chosen means 2g/3g but I would think 3g would be supported.

It isn't just your phone, I don't think any phones ever come out with the correct bands for ATT and Tmobile...Even the N1 which is supposed to be a world phone was only EDGE on ATT
The T-Mobile G2 will not work with 3G on AT&T (as you stated in the original post, the 3G or UMTS bands are different). It will instead use the regular GSM bands for 2G data.
If you want a Desire Z that works on AT&T's 3G, you have to get the NAM version offered by Bell Canada (check out the Desire Z forums). Once unlocked, it'll work fine on AT&T's 3G network.

Actually, Nokia's latest smartphones are pentaband - they can use 3G on AT&T, T-Mobile, and the European networks. This includes the C7, N8, and upcoming E7.
I have the N8 right now and have used it on both AT&T and T-Mobile with 3G.

I have a NAM Unbranded/Unlocked version that I am using on AT&T as well. I purchased mine on Ebay, it was a little cheaper than buying it through Negri (which also didn't have any when I purchased mine)
Definitely works on 3G AND can be used with a 'dumb-phone' data plan ($10/month unlimited) =D

How do you get the $10/mo data plan? I don't have that option!
Yeah I know this is going a little off topic (sorry mods)
but I think he's talking about individual unlimited data plan for "basic" phones?
I kept trying to pester AT&T about it.
So is it true you don't need the DataPro plan in order to acheive 3G data networks with smartphones?
And you can use the "basic" unlimited data plan for cheaper for the same 3G networks?
The AT&T reps kept saying otherwise.
Thanks again all for the replies!

I have a family plan with an Iphone line (sister). My phone (originally a BB when contract signed) and 2 Dumbphones (parents)
What I did was, take my SIM card, and put it into one of the dumbphones. Went into ATT and had them add unlimited Data to that line at the $10 option. (And cancel the BB services since I wasn't using the phone anymore - told them I sold it on CL) Went home and returned the SIM into my BB and I was all set to go with unlimited Data. The only thing that didn't work with the BB was the push Email services...
If you go to your online account with ATT it will show you an image of the device you are using with service and although it showed my device as a BB at the time, (after returning the SIM to the BB) the $10 plan continued to work without any hitches.
Now that I have a phone that is unbranded with an IMEI # that ATT doesn't recognize, they don't have an image for my phone, so they have no way to detect that I am using a smartphone.
I have used the $10 plan with many devices: BB, Touch Pro, Nokia E71, etc and have never had any problems.

Yes that is the plan that I am referring to and yes the reps are full of crap. ATT wants to charge you more for having a 'smartphone' even though you use the exact same data, frequencies, and service as other users. There are many ways around this, but going into an AT&T store and trying to 'reason' with them is not one. I suggest the method I used with a dumbphone. Alternatively, you can do the same process online through account manager without having to deal with a live person.
Side question here. I'm thinking about giving the G2 to a friend on AT&T. The thing is that he doesn't want to pay for a data plan. Will AT&T force a data plan onto the line? Also un checking data enabled, will that stop all data over the cellular network so he doesnt get charged at all?

I don't think they can force a data plan as the phone is not being subsidized by ATT because of a contract.
In theory disabling data will stop all data but in reality he will probably still use a bit of it. Search the forums as I remember another user having the issue of zero data use.

I finally did the whole unlock, super CID thing using gfree and adb.
Just want to make that no one has found a way to get 3G speeds on the G2?
Or is EDGE my only choice? I understand the whole band thing as well.
No. From what I've gathered on the g2 being on at&t, its impossible as the radio hardware is different and will not pick up the 3g bands. Flashing a different radio to match up the bands won't work, either (it will possibly brick your phone, actually.)
Go with the NAM Desire Z from bell canada. Its your best bet.

Can't think of a reason anyone would choose to go with the T-Mobile's one on AT&T's network unless you got it free or something. Even then, I'd sell it and go buy the AT&T version...

Telus has about 70% deployment of 42mbit HSPA+ over it's entire footprint. It should act the same, but I would theorize that it may be based on the frequency that is doing the talking. Most or all of the roms here I believe are a T-Mobile base. If there was one built off the Telus base I think you'd see the opposite happen.
I'm on Telus and my icon reflected 4G before flashing. From what I understand Telus is HSPA+ so 4G would be correct but since flashing I get the 3G icon as mentioned in an earlier post.

GSM Nexus speed on AT&T (Austin, TX)

I don't know if this is a question or more of a poll...
I think I'm getting horrible 3G speeds here in Austin, TX. It also seems like I'm being capped. When I have full bars, speedtest always shows around a 3Mbps down and 1 Mbps up transfer speeds. I've tested this in many places around North Austin / Round Rock.
What speeds are others getting?
Could my sim card or data plan need tweaking from AT&T? I ask this because I was previously on a Galaxy Note with LTE and they had to switch me to a LTE plan at the time. Outside where I work, the LTE signal strength is very strong and I've gotten amazing speeds with the Note. But with the Nexus, I get the 3/1 speeds.
Any ideas?
What are your APN settings, also are you on the smartphone or medianet plan?

Thank you for helping me.
I'm on a smartphone plan. Which APN settings are you wanting? There are a lot!
I live in Bastrop, like 30 miles east of Austin, and am getting about 2.5-3 down and .4-1.2 up. I was pretty disappointed because I thought I had remembered pulling more on my Captivate(smart phone plan though), too bad it broke. I'm using the MediaNet plan on ATT with AndroidHD Revolution(4.1.1) and Franco r223.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you're on the smartphone plan, I'm assuming you're using the "phone" apn? Also, you're aware that you can get unlimited hspa with the non smartphone plan formerly known as media net.
Who knows this could be purely speculation but let's say AT&T already has your imei number you could be automatically bumped to the same smartphone data plan if you attempt to use the dumb phone plan.
I am unsure how quick AT&T is figuring this stuff out. I had an AT&T GS2 and switched to a dumb flip phone then bought a GNex, took the sim card out of the dumb one and transplanted into the GNex and boom, unlimited data and texting for $30 a month.
I'm already on an unlimited smartphone plan. I chatted with AT&T support and there are currently no restrictions on my data plan. He also switch IMEI from the Note to the Nexus and moved me from a LTE plan to 3G plan. Data speeds remain the same.
I wonder if anyone with a GSM Nexus in Austin is able to get > 3Mbps...

You are on a SGS2 with HSPA+? Which city are you in?
Try testing with actual downloads instead of speed test sites. My speed test (I'm in northern Colorado) always tells me about 3Mb/s down 1Mb/s up too, but on actual downloads and manual tests, I hit 8-10 Mb/s even in kind of rural areas.
I'm in Indiana and get around 3-4mbit down and 1-1.5mbit up. The fastest ive seen once is 7mbit down.

I remember with the captivate, the speeds would vary widely depending on which part of town I was in. But with the Nexus, it just seems very artificial to hit right around 3 down / 1 up every time. Almost like AT&T is capping it similar to what they did to the captivate. The modem AT&T put on the captivate was throttled for whatever reason but flashing an international modem removed it.

ATT uses QoS to determine which devices on their network receive priority as well. Iphones receive the most for cell phones of course.

Yeah. I had to send my Gnex in for service. Only got to use it for 17 days
Harbor Springs Michigan
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I am wondering on this myself. I bought my gnex from google play, got it and noticed that the data rates are pretty steady at around 2.5 - 3.5 max down, and .9 - 1.2 up. The gnex has a 21Mbit HSPA+ radio in it, so in theory it should accept whatever AT&T can push to it. However, I came from an Atrix 2, and can vouch for the fact that the Atrix 2 when using the PTA APN on HSPA+ (no LTE for about 200 miles where I'm at) will download consistently between 7 - 9 Mbit... Same server on speediest.net, same APN, same place, the signal is within 1dBm of each other.
Because I have found no base band that can change this, nor any APN setting I am starting to believe that if AT&T gets an IMEI of a phone that it doesnt recognize, they will throttle it.
Any one else have any insight? 3.5Mbit is plenty, but I'd like to get the same speeds as what I consider a lesser device.
If I could find a way to change the IMEI I'd test this theory.
^^^ Suprisingly, Its not att at all. Ask anyone on these forums, samsung has notoriously bad radios. Signal and cell strength just are not that great. And you can you can especially feel the difference coming from a motorola device. They have the strongest radios of all the major oems by far. No one even comes close.

Thanks for this update. just saw it. It's frustrating knowing our phones could do so much better.

Phone has no service on Band 2 (PCS/WCDMA 1900)

I haven't tried to root this handset yet. This is my #2 handset. The 1st the screen broke so I used my insurance to get another. I work with phones all day long including iPhones, other T-Mobile phones, AT&T and non-GSM phones such as Verizon for example. I deal with carriers such as T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, H20 and non-GSM carriers such as Boost Mobile. So i'm saying that I basically deal with it all. Now the problem i'm having is my own phone. I set to WCDMA only and i'm on the stock ROM of course. The phone will set itself from Band 4 to Band 2 from time to time however, when it sets to Band 2 there is no service until it swaps back to Band 4. I have troubleshooted and called T-Mobile and Samsung to talk to them to find out whats going on. Both of the handsets have done this #1 and #2. The service menu *#0011# shows that it is on Band 2 and it is receiving 2 to 3 bars of service but the availability is LIMITED. The About Phone -> Status menu shows that it is Out Of Service. And the carrier is unknown. The notifications area shows searching... or no service. The type of network is showing Unknown:0. This only happens on Band 2 WCDMA on my phone. On any other phone it works with no issue. I am wondering why my specific phone is not connecting to this band properly. T-Mobile has told me to contact Samsung. Samsung said they can't help me apparently. So what do you think the reason is why I can't connect? If you need screenshots I can take them.
I have a similar problem with my first note 2. My note 2 gets signals sometime and I cannot get 4g speed. I called up tmobile they where unable to fix the problem. So most likely somthing screw up on your phone and use your insurance to exchange a working one.

Its never worked properly on neither of the Note IIs i've had. So 2 devices with the same issue. I believe the issue is wide spread and there are many others with the refarmed band connecting issue. The phone should have come with the options of 1700 and 1900 WCDMA switching or both. Unknown:0 just means theres no option for it so it doesn't know what to show. However, I can't explain why its happening on the Note IIs only.
Another person, as well as myself, posted about this problem about a month ago. We both had the same exact issue... 4G works, 3G doesn't at all. Edge works, GPS works... 3G DOES NOT send/recieve any data. It has to be a T-Mobile issue and from the looks of it they are trying to ignore it. Honestly it becomes a huge issue when you're traveling and can't always access WIFI or 4G. It's something I would leave T-Mobile for... so they should consider tackling the problem and fix it.

This could be the same issue i'm having due to being in a limited 4G area its mostly 3G.
However, I can access 3G and 4G on phones that are not T-Mobile like AT&T Androids and iPhones and it works with no problem. I am wondering if this applies to the Galaxy S III and Note I also as I haven't tested that out yet. That's why I pointed it out at Samsung.
I wonder if it will be fixed when LTE Radio gets unlocked.
Developers should take notice that deal with the combo WCDMA 1700/1900 handsets to create a switch to go from WCDMA 1700 or 1900 and to use a combo of 1700 + 1900. So we could have the option to switch to a specific band rather than it jumping from 2 to 4 then back to 2 and 4 again.
Are you rooted?
Are you running a Custom ROM?
Have you flashed a Radio from anything other than a T-Mobile Radio?
Is it even safe to flash a radio other than T-Mobile?
Similar problem. Network data stopped sometime this afternoon. Tried sim in my sgs2 and worked fine.thinking of going to tmo store.

Not sure but the issue with band 2 might be LTE related and the nonworking scenarios are possibly just occuring as tmo expands their towers... not sure if im way off or not but I read that tmo is pushing some to 1900 to make room for LTE on their 1700... there for, again just a hunch, band 2 might be somewhat sporadic due to it being reconfiged to accommodate their LTE rollouts
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I understand what your saying but its a weird occurrence to only not be working on the SGN-II. When I can hold another persons phone in the same spot with 1900 only and it ends up working. Only thing I can come up with is maybe blocking specific devices but I have no clue. Putting people on bands that don't work properly is something T-Mobile shouldn't be doing. If you for example are on that band and an emergency call comes through well you missed it till your back to the other 2 bands that work. I always root my devices however, i'm a lil scared to due to the fact that I might lose my EFS. Even tho I know I can backup my EFS. But then again I could lose it right after root. I don't understand why Samsung put vital info into a folder that could be removed.
Anyways sorry for the rant. I'm glad to know i'm not the only one with the problem.
The GNII is one of only like 3 phones that come with the LTE "on/off switch" so thats why Im speculating still, again I really have no clue but having read a few topics (like you wanted to know everthing about tmo efs/modem/imei/etc before modding anything) I feel like the LTE rollout and the band 2 issue going hand in hand

I think know whats going on. In your *#0011# Service Menu. When it switches to Band 2 the MCC-MNC change. It shows something like 310 260 when its on T-Mobile but 310 410 when its on AT&T. When on Band 2 for some reason it will swap from 260 on Band 4 to 410 on Band 2 therefore identifying it as an AT&T network. Why is it trying to connect to AT&T? I have no idea.

I personally havent experienced any issues with my data/sms (then again if youre not receiving text/mms then how would one know they are experiencing problems in the first place?)
Because I havent had any issues I havent really tried to test my connection enough to know when im band 2 or band 4 or what exact mcc-mnc changes are occuring... for those worried about messing up their phones they need to just make sure they are always flashing a rom built foe their carriers' phone model and also make sure that each flash performed doesnt affect the modem.. (I know the modem part is hard due to roms being based off newer releases but as long as you are following my first suggestion (verify you are flashing the right carriers' phone model download) then there should never be an issue

T-Mobile's response is: The phone is designed to connect to the best network. Once Band 4 on T-Mobile has no signal while on 3G/4G WCDMA it will flop over automatically to Band 2 on AT&T. Due to the 7 year agreement we have with AT&T you should be able to access the network. However, we have lost a bunch of ROAMING AGREEMENTS recently. "Apparently AT&T DID NOT keep their promise of a nationwide agreement". Therefore your city might be on this list. This may be why you can't access AT&T. There is nothing we can do right now. Its a waiting game on when T-Mobile rolls out improved coverage onto 3G/4G 1700 WCDMA and 3G/4G 1900 WCDMA on its own. So in the future it is less likely that you will be put on AT&T. However, it is still possible. Sorry but we DO NOT have any CeI-Fi devices as I would offer you one as we are SOLD OUT. We don't expect any Cei-Fi devices to be in till this Summer.
So this device is supposed to go onto AT&T apparently and its not supposed to show as Roaming which is why Data Roaming Checked/Unchecked doesn't work.
Thank you! Finally a complete answer lol.
Is it possible to make it so band 2 only sticks with T-Mobile?

Well they sold out of the Cel-Fi once they actually dropped the 2 YR requirement extension and then they got plagued with calls and SOLD OUT. I told her thats not good that means that the network is crap. She laughed and agreed. But look at the good AT&T signal makes me want to sometimes switch but everytime I think of leaving I couldn't.
According to the info I have gotten in my area GSM is approx. 485 meters away and WCDMA is 1,110 meters away in the opposite direction.
Figured out my problem. Phone got blacklisted.thanks eBay:thumbdown:

Now I can ROAM onto AT&T and have everything running except 4G is actually EDGE speed. I can even select AT&T as the main network.
LTE Band 2 1900MHz capability
I would like to know if an unlocked Tmobile note 2 has the capability to work on AT&T LTE Band 2 1900 MHz?
I know it works on AT&T GSM-1900 MHz frequency. it will even work on LTE band 17 700MHz frequency.

Sprint Note 4 running on AT&T ???

Hi guys i have been skimming this forum for years learning to root different phones and tablets, but only as a guest.
Today i had my sprint note 4 successfully unlocked and it now runs on AT&T through straight talk.
I am getting 10 times better service signal and data wise with hspa over sprints horrible 3g service in Virginia.
Anyway i am happy with everything, but i have a question. I have cross referenced the specs between the att, tmobile, verizon and sprint variants of the note 4 and all show they have the same bands available, what are the chances that someone has gotten AT&T true 4g lte working on a sprint branded phone, is it possible and if not why?.
Thanks in advance
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
If this is true. Good. Lots are speculating no data on the other variants while on the sprint note 4. So are you complete domestic unlocked or just unlocked for international. ?

Complete domestic unlock, able to use any mvno for AT&T or TMobile, im using straight talks AT&T network personally. Here is pics of my status, i have wifi on here at home is why it says data not connected, but im getting 7.9mb/s dl on hspa consistently

How were you able to unlock the sprint note 4?

Was recommended by another member on here, dude from this sight rooted and did the complete unlock remotely for me for 50 bucks. Cant beat it at all! Great customer service and the guy literally answered like 40 emails back and forth of questions i had before i even paid him.
Cant express how happy i am to actually be able to use my note 4 as intended. It was a paperweight with sprint service.

there may be something wrong with your modem. I would suggest resetting modem changes and provisioning with a reset + ##786# + ##72786#, etc and put everything back to stock and start over. ..all just a suggestion as I am fairly sure that is the best you'll get out of the Note 4 (N910P)
you may want to go to frequencycheck and make sure the bands your attempting are even a possibility ...https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...n920p-galaxy-note-5-td-lte-32gb-samsung-noble

May be your sim card. Is it a 4g sim?
Also make sure your apn is correct. Check this: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KB424489
I am getting true 4G LTE through straight talk on my Sprint note edge. I used idoneapps to unlock it. Enabled ehrpd, enabled lte, and set 1x to hybrid. After restart I went to apn settings and selected automatic and used the straight talk apn that my lte Sim card came with. I am using a Sim card I got from a zte straight talk phone, not the Sim card packpack.
