[Q] Can anyone try Duke Nukem 3D please. Hows the performance like? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i've seen there is an android port by Machineworks that plays kinda smooth, but it sucks because it doesn't have the Atomic Edition fourth episode. Im not sure if you can use the duke3d.grp or any custom maps with that port.
I would like to know if Xperia Play is powerful enough to run dosbox with this game at a good framerate so I can play the Atomic Edition and all the mods like the DC and Caribean Edition
www dot youtube.com/watch?v=-AzkE7WiwvA
On this video it looks slow but im not sure if it's the video or the actual framerate sucks.
Thanks

About 2.5 years ago I had an apk for Duke Nukem 3D that was not the one done by Machineworks, and it worked beautifully, and I even had Quake 2 and Quake 3 (http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/11/2...ay-quake-iii-arena-on-your-xperia-play-video/)

so where did you get that
that is just a link for a q3 port

I know the Q3 was a port. The duke3d I found back in 2011 but I can't find it. I'll keep searching.

This is a really really good idea!
I just installed nfs:shift, and it's pretty enjoyable!
Its not under rated but the andriod platform it self has a very limited title for games compared to the iOS

BTW nfs shift is brilliant .... just bought the full version
Just installed a lag fix app on my stepdads Galaxy S and now its blazing fast.
Boots up Asphalt 5 much faster now, and no slowdowns in the game at all. ;D
Wish i could afford that phone too, but i gotta save up cash to replace my old notebook first.
Maybe when i can afford it Samsung may have finally released Froyo. xD

The iOS is a better gaming platform and hardware, I say this because theres only like 1 or 2 optmizations they need to do for a game to run compared to andriod 2.1 and 2.2 devices they need to make sure it runs on a few dozen.. like PC gaming xD

Galaxy S has better hardware than the iPhone 4. And don't forget that you need more power to render at 960x640 which is the iPhone 4 native resolution.
The problem is android only has like a dozen 3d games. iOS has a LOT more than that, hundreds of them?
When I go to the Gameloft website and try to download Avatar, I get the following error:
Sorry. The game you selected will be available for your phone and carrier soon. Please check again later for availability.
This can't be right...what am I missing?
EDIT: Nvm, got this working!

[Q] Has Anyone Tried FPse Yet?

Has anyone tried the new PS1 emu yet? The word generally is that it is miles ahead of psx4droid, however i dont have a G2/desire z yet. Im looking at getting this phone as my next purchase.
Yes, ofcourse. It is way much better than psx4droid! There is a thread on xda discussing FPse!
trust me its a hell lot better than psx, fpse is so much cooler and it runs a lot smoother than psx

The word would be correct. Just don't confuse savestates with loadstates. That made me lose about 4 hours of FFVII when I was drunk. Its badass though. I went online and found a FFVII savegame and put it on my SD, fpse read it just fine and I was back in business.

Was using it back in my WinMo days, now I'm using it on the DZ and I love it, the hardware keyboard makes all the difference.
Runs nice and smooth (I play without sound, though, personal preference).
FPSE is ok. a lot of the games that work on psx4droid, dont on FPSE, which can get quite annoying.
But the frame rate and the over all smoothness is better on FPSE.
AND if you get sixaxis pair tool from the market, you can play the games with a ps3 controller (FPSE)! The controller doesnt work however on psx4droid.
(Just a little input)

[Q] Little to no games, old phone? Should I get this?

I'm just considering my options.
I am a gamer. But from what I see on Wikipedia, the game base for this is very limited with crap ps1 games like jumping flash.... ammi rite?
Considering this vs. the new HTC One X.
Is there a successor to this phone coming soon?
Trying to get caught up on this model and series...
I see now, 228 games listed in the other forum.
Though, I was hoping for some quality PS1 games at least.
It would be sweet to be able to play my PSN purchased ps1 games or ps2 games. Final Fantasy 7,8,9,10 Silent Hills, Resident Evils, etc...
=(
Well you can also install emulators for other consoles.
And FPSE is is good for all your PS1 games.
I and one other person are also working on getting PSXPeria working again as alot of people are having problems. Which lets you play PS1 games on the native Xperia Play emulator for better compatibility. We're almost there. Once we're both tested it, I'll make a thread for it with detailed instructions.
Xperia Play is a great phone and gaming device. Can emulator the other consoles, so really the gamebase is HUGE.

If your a gamer get the Xperia Play. It's cheaper and it's an all rounder. Loads of games on it as well.
Oh and Sonic 4 Episode 2 will be coming out on it as well sweet ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521835
With the release of the Playstation Suite in April (probably along with our ICS update) we should hopefully see an increase in good quality games

Spot on
I guess you should evaluate it from every angle.
Unfortunately, I think Xperia Play is already at the end of its support life. Probably from 2013 on we'll have almost no support, and I'm kinda willing to bet there'll be no official Jelly Bean for us (though we have a great team here at xda that surely will make it work for us) while HTC One X will probably receive support til 2014.
Besides, the hardware on One X seems better from the spec sheet.
On the other hand, Xperia Play works very well for the daily use and have this amazing touchpad that I love. Until it starts to be too laggy to work on a daily basis, I'm not willing to exchange it for any other device.
So, it's really your call and priorities. We'll be waiting you to join us!

Working emulators?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to some working emulators for the nexus 7. The ones in the gaming thread don't seem to be working.
The primary one I'm looking for is n64 but any help would be appreciated.

SuperN64 (N64 Emulator) is what you're looking for
Just watch out it sometimes prompts you to download applications, so make sure you read all the pop up windows. Otherwise compatibility and smoothness are awesome! Overall good emulator
Use My Boy! Free - GBA Emulator for gbc/gba. You will need to find the bios for this though.
I'm sorry I can't post the direct links because I'm new here and probably my last post since the captchas are annoying lol

My personal chart:
N64:
Super N64 (tried Super Mario 64 and Smash Bros both flawlessy)
Mupen64Plus AE (a bit outdated but will be ported to OUYA in near future so we can expect a better optimization for tegra devices, to be IMHO monitored)
GBA:
GBA.Emu (Compatible even with golden sun 1/2 music tracks, have a problem with mario advance 4 music otherwise i'd say perfect).
My Boy!
Gameboid (Not available on market anymore)
PSX:
epsxe (Tried only Tekken 3 and it's perfect).
NDS:
NDS4Droid (Around 30-50% speed but I'd say good compatibility).
DSoid (Less compatible but with some games emulated up to 80-90% speed. Games like FF XII Revenant Wings and Fire Emblem don't work correctly).
SNES:
SuperGNES
Snesoid (No more available on market)
PSP:
PPSSPP (No other alternatives but to be an early version it's IMHO very good).
Awesome guys I appreciate the help.

I'd recommend FPSE for PSX and for NDS, NDS4Droid had pretty much been abandoned.
Tiger arcade for mame. Happy bay is also a sort of jack of all trades, its awesome

I just started playing with SuperGNES. It is a very well made emulator. Downloads coverart and lots of neat features. Scans your storage automatically. Very easy to use. Probably the best emulator I've ever used.
I also do PSX using FPse but it is a crap shoot. Games play great mostly but the interface is clumsy and require lots of tweaking each time. Some settings don't seem to want to stick after a restart. OpenGL plugin makes games look very good though. I'm currently mid way through FF7. Games play full speed in normal mode and a about 40-60fps using OpenGL.
Those really are my two consoles I really like to emulate.
I also use a Moga controller. I also have a PSx tethered (4.2.1 screwed up sixaxis wireless support afaik).

About FPSE i hand't the cash to buy both a looking on web I found epsxe to be more reliable but I will be happy to try FPSE too :good:
About NDS4Droid, check this

I expect to see something during these holidays However DSoid improved very much with last update even if it completely lacks options.
I get all my emulators and ROMs from roms4droid.com
Its easy to navigate straight from my n7 and has a pretty good selection.

Way to go guys, you just recommended the same exact emulator, but one is riddled with adware and downloads, not to mention the author probably stole the source code and is profiting off of it without the permission of the guy who actually ported it. (Paul Lamb, paulscode.com and author of Mupen64plus) Also, Mupen64 Plus is NOT outdated. He simply hasn't pushed the latest updates to the Play Store yet. Version 2.0 is coming out soon with multiplayer support (Multiple controllers on one device) and a nice cheat system. You can try some bleeding edge builds here. - http://www.paulscode.com/forum/index.php?topic=723.0
Plays great and the interface is much better. Please don't support those assholes who take other people's work for a quick buck.
Yup, there are recent builds of mupen64 - ad free and fully open source. I'd say the games run almost as well as n64oid, but I like it better because of its great gamepad support.

plz help me decide

Hey guys I'm planning to buy this phone my main purpose is too play games watch movies and browsing internet.. I wana know does this phone is good for gaming does it support high end games like asphalt 8 and modern combat 3 etc... And if yes then is it smooth during gaming is videocore 4 gpu is any good? Please suggest me
Thank you all have a nice day
Not quite all over great in gaming...
It supports high end games...not all..but almost..i mean...the main problem is its resolution..its ppi..its tooo damn low....everything with damn high resolution and sharpness will look bad....we can play asphalt 8in highest resolution too...but its sharpness is too mch that our screen don't support and that looks ugly at times....if u zooom the same...it becomes very hd...i mean to say if u zoom out very hd graphics...they look bad..so its okay for gaming..but not that great....icons big.. And it got broadcomm processor...which haven't released codes...thanx to devs they released amazing kitkat roms and everything for us...but still many things are limited... ..so i wud advice....that don't mahn...just wait..

Watching movies
Hell yeah, watching movies on grand is awesome
Mostly watch those 720p ones from YiFy which show decent detail
The only thing is the audio output via headphones
My old P500 has way better audio on headphones than grand even without using Viper or any other mod
Browsing Internet
Never faced an issue
The 5 inch factor is pretty good while browsing web
Games
Grand has a pretty good GPU which has been improved by Samsung by firmware updates
Games like Asphalt 8, FIFA 14, Injustice, Dead Trigger 1&2 play smoothly
Would recommend the Xperia Ion/Xperia C over it though
(Go buy it if you are gonna install ViperFX to get some decent sound)

Ohkay thanks I'm finally gonna buy grand
Movies: Too good, I use VPlayer.
Games: I don't play much, but have played Subway surfers, temple run 2, etc. It runs without any lag.
Internet: No issues. I use Stock browser as well as Chrome at times for a change.
Hit thanks if you like my post.
If you can't live without dual SIM and willing to shell out some extra bucks then wait for Grand 2. Spec-side it's a bit better than Grand 1
Xperia SP run HIGH END Games almost no lag , it has adreno 320 , Grand 2 is great choice too
