[ROOT] Very Simple E980 root after E98010p update - LG Optimus G Pro

This is so awesome but I can't post links so....
...wait for it!!!
I can post it on my own web site tho: free-press dot us

I copied this from your site.
How To ROOT the Optimus G Pro E-980
after installing the latest update to E98010p
1. Install the drivers if you have not done so yet from http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-E980 (under Software Update tab)
2. Install this program (Kingo Android Root) from download.com: http://download.cnet.com/Kingo-Android-Root/3000-2094_4-75996768.html
Notes: You get a download.com installer initially. I was offered two programs I would never use so I declined those and got the actual program from the installer. Nothing was forced so don't freak out. The actual program is 22.5mb.
3. Open the Kingo program after install.
4. Put your phone in USB Debugger mode and connect it to your PC.
5. Select "Install PC Software" on your phone popup and let the Kingo program do its job.
6. The program will attempt root in Odin mode at first and fail and will then automatically use the correct mode and succeed.
Once the program completes you will have rooted your LG Optimus G Pro with "SuperSU" installed. Very simple. Next step is to install a Recovery.
I tried to post this on XDA but I don't have 10 posts so I gave up there. I go there often for solutions and new information but rarely post, but people seemed to be struggling with this and I thought I should give something back. Someone with link posting power can repost this to the forum if you want but please give me some credit for finding this on YouTube. Thanks!!!

really it was so simple
I just installed it and the program worked as promised, thanks man

Worked for me, now trying it on my Nexus 7 (Flo) ...:good:
**Update**
Nope on the Nexus

I'm gonna take a stab at this and say Freegee will still be required for installing recovery(CWM)?

FreeGee will put the lokified version of the recovery on your phone, which is needed since the bootloader is still locked

Can you tell me, or anyone can tell me, why Rom Manager doesn't work? It says it has Loki support but when I try to use it I get the android with the red symbol denoting it can't boot into recovery. I'm just curious.

Not sure....

I've read that Kingo and vroot are malicious root programs that might be sending IMEI info to Chinese servers. Then, supposedly other phones can be set up with your credentials. I don't have any way to verify if the aforementioned is true, but I'm just passing it along...
Maybe a web search of vroot and Kingo are in order.....

If that is true, and I'm not saying it is or isn't, I'm sure a web search on the matter could tell you what to look for. Such as hidden malicious apps installed, etc. It would be a prudent move to check into it but nothing to panic over until and/or unless there is some truth to it. Just my 2 cents on the matter....lol
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:02 PM ----------
Just because you brought it up Andy, I went into all my settings and apps. This method DOES install an app in your phone. I probably should have wrote down the app info before I removed it but I forgot to. it's not rocket science to figure it out on your own though. You see a blue icon with some Chinese writing on it. I went ahead and removed it from my phone just to be safe. But chances are IF this app is sending ANY data to a foreign server, it has done so already because it's been in my phone for a few hours already before I noticed it.
I did read online about the uploading of IMEI numbers but ONLY to build a database from but that feature has since been removed because of the concerns it raised.

Worked fine for my LG Optimus G Pro E980. I also ran Malware Bytes afterwards and found no malware, then I ran CM Security and the only thing I found was an sms fake phishing vulnerability which I am almost sure didn't come from the root process.

So just want to verify on this software is working for E980 10p update? Has anyone else found 10p root method to work without reflashing.? I am almost tempt to hold out on 4.4 OTA update coming for my phone.

For the desperate LG Escape owners...

Not sure where to post a victory message! After scouring the net over my truly new LG Escape P870, actually newly released to the world in mid-September, for rooting information, I somehow landed on Bin4ry's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460.
I am extremely happy to say that version 15 did the job! I wanted to post this in his thread, but I'm not allowed to because I'm new.
So for anybody enjoying using this great phone, there's hope. And it's EASY!
Peace, tinkicker.
I tried Bin4ry's as well but it did''t work for me. It kept giving me errors (i tried it like 10 times). I tried both methods (for tabs and the normal) I wanted to post on Bin4ry's and give him the output that I got but I couldnt post on that thread (new user) . Then I found a site, which I am not able to post the link to because xda doesn't let me( new user), but if you google "LG Esteem OneClickRoot" it is the first result that comes up. I tried that one, it also gave me errors and restarted my phone, I thought It didnt work but when I went and looked in the installed apps, for my surprise there was a new app - "superSU". So I opened a terminal typed su and there it was the coveted # sign . Now I need to find how to install a new recovery.
Hey guys, just got this phone today. Tried both of those methods with no luck so I figured why not try the method that worked on the recently ported ICS 4.0.4 for the LG Thrill.
You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31963526&postcount=532
The version 1.6 worked for me. The only problem I had was there was an error reading a file, second time through it worked with 0 errors.
Also there is an update to our firmware from P87010c to P87010f not sure what the difference is.
NO JOY!!!
Okay...I'm stupid. Rooted phone...one wrong move with a system file...yep. Brick.
Fortunately I was 1 day shy of my hardware warranty expiration so new phone. But...now Bin4ry's app no longer works for me! It will NOT root this new Escape!
Tomorrow I'll try MikesTooLz's and see what happens.
Look at your system info, did you get the newer software version? The v10f or P87010f is the update, the one on my phone that I rooted with wkparks method is v10c or P87010c.
If it's the updated version can't say for sure but the link I posted above worked on 2 LG phones that I have, may work on yours.
I suspected the software update--it's the F version--might be the culprit but I didn't know what the original was so I couldn't be sure.
So what can I do? Wait on someone to cover the F update? Could I download the older version, root, and then upgrade again?
Did you try the method posted in the link I provided? You may have to run it 2 times to get it to work. Also some have reported better results with version 1.2 of the root script vs 1.6
What exactly is going wrong? Can you give me a screenshot of the cmd prompt? I will do what I can to help, I have the update ready to go but haven't done it because I want to make sure I have root. haha
Downgrading isn't really possible because the only KDZ I can find is the v10f which I posted in a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33752762
I'm slowly working on this phone so hopefully we can get a custom recovery going and everything no promises though but, I won't be happy till I can put a custom rom on this phone.
Urabewe, it worked!
I could NOT download v1.6. It would appear to download, virus scan would run, and browser would lock up. When I checked my "extract to" folder, the bin and files folders were there, but none of the .bat files had extracted. I was able to correctly download and extract v1.2, so I ran it, and my phone is now rooted. Thank you for the info!
It ran the first time and failed. Ran the second like you said I might have to, and it completed correctly.
I have the update ready to go but haven't done it because I want to make sure I have root. haha

Does that mean you were waiting to root your phone to see if I bricked mine? LOL!
Now...everybody talks about "install a new recovery". Can somebody point me to or describe the correct procedure/routine/script that I need to follow in order to set my phone up safely like it should be? What apps do I need to fulfill all the correct steps? Yes, I've messed around with a tablet root for a year, but I'm no developer. As far as the technicalities go, I'm pure NOOB. Windows, I understand. Linux, I'm learning. I don't know how to be safe about this and I can't afford to buy another phone if I screw up (wife is watching me closely).
Urabewe, thanks for the help!
Awesome glad it worked. No wasn't waiting for you to brick, just confirm root was possible, and this is nice to know I may just upgrade later then.
Recovery is not possible right now, bootloader is locked and only thing we can get into is download mode which has nothing to do with custom recoveries. Slowly working on it so anything I find will be posted.
Any info I find will be posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33752762 so keep an eye out there.

One Clicks...
I tried two specifically meant for LG phones, and I had no luck with them. I succeeded with Urabewe's posted links though. And yes, as I posted in their thread, v10f IS rootable. Once I figure out how to take screencaps again, or better take live video of the screen, I will get it as more proof. Now to see if ROMs will be possible soon....

How to "root" your Optimus G Pro AT&T

How to "root" your Optimus G Pro AT&T ONLY
This does work great. It will allow root.
1. (Optional if you have another means of un-RARing) Download and install 7-zip from here. You need this to open certain types of archives (specifically .rar, but you might also want to open .tar, .bz2, or other types of archives in the future). This program is supremely awesome in its ability to open almost any archive you throw at it. It's also unobtrusive and efficient.
2. Download and install LG USB Drivers from here. Without these drivers, your computer won't be able to effectively communicate with your phone. This is vital for the steps we will be taking.
3. Enable USB debugging by going to Settings->(General)->Developer options" and checking the box next to "USB debugging." You will get warnings. You can probably ignore them. This setting will allow you to run commands on your phone from your computer (via USB). For more info on the Android Debug Bridge, click here.
4. Download and extract (using 7-zip (or whatever)) the root exploit from here.
5. Connect your phone to the computer with your USB cable.
6. Put the phone into "Charge Only" mode at Settings->General->PC connection->USB connection type
7. Open CurrentRoot.bat and follow its prompts. You will need to change from "Charge Only" to "Media sync (MTP)" mode. The setting is in the same place.
8. Run SuperSU (now in your apps drawer) it and make sure it works. This program allows others to gain access to superuser privileges. For more info on rooting and what kind of stuff it lets you do, click here and/or use Google.

Yup, worked fine on my laptop - Win8 64 bit.
I followed the instructions and even ran the currentRoot file as administrator after unrar the whole "ZV9-ZVB-Root folder" to the desktop.
After it says root successful, I still couldn't find the superuser in my apps as described. I have downloaded SU from play store and I still have no root access.
Please see the attached pictures of my root process and let me know if I am doing anything wrong.
Whatever I do, attached pictures are coming upside down. Sorry!

At this point in development, if I root my phone and do softbrick or bootloop it how can I return to stock setup? With the bootloader locked is this not possible at this state. I would like to go ahead and root , but I feel as though there is no safety net. What are the alternatives....

[Root/Unlock] LG Optimus F6 T-Mobile

Hello users I have recently bought a new T-Mobile LG Optimus F6.
For those of you who may have just purchased one or need one rooted and or unlocked here is how to do it.
Root:
Download MotoChopper.zip that is attatched at the bottom.
Then place your phone in Debugging mode. Also check unknown sources in security.
Unzip the MotoChopper and look for "run.bat"
Once that is all done you should have root access.
Unlock:
I use Blowfish Unlocks. You can use who ever you prefer.
Dial *#06# and that will be your IMEI number.
Next submit for the code and wait.
When it comes back use: SIM_UNLOCK=00000000000000
Now to enter the code you have to put in a non supported sim and dial 2945#*500#
Then choose Network Unlock and enter your code. If the first code doesnt work do not panic.
You have 10 attempts and you usually get back 5 different codes. Try them until one works. But to be sure double check that you submitted the right IMEI to begin with.
Enjoy
works

Question about the rooting
Is the rooting all that is needed to enable tethering without the paying of an additional fee to T-Mobile? Basically being held hostage....... and will the phone be capable of OS updating in the future?

what's the difference T-mobile v MetroPCS
Metro sold me the F6 based on the fact it works on the T-mobile networks LTE. However, I am having a hard time living with an unrooted phone so I'm hoping to use motochopper to root. But someone said it will not work. Is there really that much difference between those sold by T-mobile and those from Metro?
I "upgraded" from a Motion to have bigger screen, and now I find out that may have actually been a step down? WTF!?
All I want to do is unbloat and get rid of "insufficient storage" errors. Shouldn't be so tedious!

You can root with the vroot method.
There's some questions about what it does exactly but it does work. I should point out that the program and its cousin program are under community investigation due to possibly shady dealings with pulling and pushing files. Its cousin program (kango or something) Has been shown to pull imeid off phones and apparently send them, unencrypted, to a Chinese server.... but it's the only thing I've found to be a proven working root.
Can't unlock boot loader so no custom roms but you can debloat.
I've discovered that both my l9 and my f6 hold onto the storage allotment for moved downloads...
Not sure if you get my drift...
If you download a file to internal and move it to sd it still shows up in "downloads" when you check the storage in your settings.
To solve it open settings/storage/unmount sd and then open downloads under internal storage and delete files you know you moved.

Rooting isn't the problem. This works fine. I know. But what is with grabbing/spy and other sensitive data? That's the question. I've read that personal data be spied by a china server.
Please read my link.
Two quotes from my link:
I can confirm that something unknown/suspicious is being uploaded to your PC on running the android root.exe file. The IP address (hex) corresponds to a website/location in ZH (China) (whois). My antivirus and firewall blocked it out, and the programme halted on my PC, and I couldn't root my mom's New Samsung galaxy trend duos. I uninstalled the app & thank goodness I was running the file sandboxed.....caveat emptor everyone......

Bumping this thread to clear some things up:
The tool isn't allowed on the forums right now, we're still working out some issues with them. Biggest issue being sending sensitive data unencrypted to their servers in China and grabbing the IMEI with no apparent reason. When that is solved the whole issue will be reassessed.

I would hope it is clean... You can always try the G2 root method to see if it works, they are very similar.

Hello,
"hope" is too uncertain for me. And similar is not the same. I think that doesn't work fine. Or do you 100% know that it works?
Sorry, I'm here for the first time and I doesn't know that with Q&A. But now I know it.
And sorry for my english. Ist not the best. I know :fingers-crossed:

It does work, if you look here you will see that a lot of people had success with it.
Although the exe seems clear, the problem is that it requires permission from my firewall to connect to internet and download additional drivers(?). This is definitely suspicious as they could had been included in the exe. And as a user said it tries to connect to some ip that is chinese. I wanted to root my lg g pad using kingo but i had seen the thread you mention and as xda doesnt support this app i ll wait till they find a way to unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery.
I will wait too. That's for me also too suspicious.

Again, I know that kingo works. but I think this tool contains a trojan.
And with my question, I did not mean kingo, but I meant the root method of G2. Do you 100% know that it works also with LG G Pad?

Nope , no one has tested it and i dont have my g pad yet. The G2 and G Pad are very similar as far as OS
But if you are worried about kingo even though no one has had any issues with their g pad then dont root. I will take my chances when i get mine if there are not alternative methoda.
Worked great on mine, rooted it about an hr after I got home with it.

The question isn't if this tool works (it works as it is verified by so many members), it's if this tool is dangerous and none of you could answer to that.

The tool isn't allowed on the forums right now, we're still working out some issues with them. Biggest issue being sending sensitive data unencrypted to their servers in China and grabbing the IMEI with no apparent reason. When that is solved the whole issue will be reassessed.

As far as can be seen the information is grabbed and sent during the rooting process which is why it will not work without an active internet connection. Kingo is working on a revision to remove the data collection.

Apparently, all of you who have rooted your g pad with kingo app had your private data and imei sent to an unknown chinese ip.

Correctly. This is fact. You're one of the few who understood what I mean with my post. But everyone needs to know in what danger he sets himself.
But I wish you continued fun with the stolen imei and personal data theft :silly:

I see...so the root works but your data is being sent to a Chinese Data mining operation then being sent back to the NSA? ( lol joke sorry i had to say it).
Well it's a good thing i research stuff before i jump in.

I updated the root thread with a little warning. I would recommend restoring to stock and then try rooting that way you have nothing in your data to be stolen (besides the IMEI). I hope someone will be brave enough to try the other root method from the G2 so we don't risk anything... anyone try it yet? (from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887)
If someone can confirm it to work I will update the root thread with that root method. I would try but I do not have the G pad yet

I tried the root method for the G2. While it worked very well for my d800 G2, it did NOT work on my G Pad.
SuperUser was copied onto my pad, but root was not successfully obtained There are no ill effects from the failure though.

I have rooted with Kingo. Out of curiosity I ran malwarebytes anti malware tool from google play. Everything came up clean no trojans, etc. Not a guarantee but somewhat comforting,

I just checked the "android_root.exe" on VirusTotal.com . Found 3/47 Trojan. So I'm definitly not running it on my os. -.- Waiting for a more secure method.

[Q] Need help rooting Lg G3 Vs985

So Friday i went to verizon and bought me a new LG G3 phone, 32G memory 3G RAM, you know the good **** LOL. Well when i got home i wanted to root the phone but when i looked it up there was many options, IOROOT, TowelRoot, and Stump Root. So i tried towel root on the phone but when i clicked the button towel root said my device isnt compatible and my phones build is the VS98510B. So at that point i decided to try IOROOT. When i launched the batch file i made sure i made myself a developer, got the proper drivers, made it connect via usb and set the phone connection to Ethernet. Well in the batch file it said everything was good and that i just needed to click any button to continue well i did that but when i clicked a button it simply closed the batch file. All i clicked was the space bar and it closed. Stump root isnt compatible and im afraid to use bruteforce mode. Any one got any help with this? Andriod Kitkat 4.4.2
Use the brut force method in stump. Takes about 5 minutes.

So when i root it do i need to back up anything? Ive heard of whats called TWRP but idk what that is
I used stump root. My phones still works. You can't install twrp because bootloader is still locked, have to wait for a way to unlock it.

Read a bit here TWRP is a recovery and backup software for when you flash a custom ROM.. You're not flashing any custom ROMs just yet.. So... I don't think you need to backup anything just yet. After you root the phone you can use TWRP to backup your current stock ROM .. Good luck ..
:good:
I used ioroot with no problems. Check out this vid, pretty straight fwd on what you need to do.

My pleasure Hope you can find root using the desired software.. I'm in Korea..using the F400k but the latest update (v10l) couldn't find root using any of the available tools.. so.. I had to downgrade to the previous (v10g) and got root again. :victory:

This has ALWAYS worked well for me (Besides with the latest version update)... But I don't know if it would work on your device.. Try what you have. If all fails then give this a shot
