Introduction
This module provides an S-Pen-only touch mode for Galaxy Note devices. I wrote this module for my girlfriend who had expressed frustration with the inability to draw naturally on her Galaxy Note 10.1 (with her wrist resting on the tablet). I cooked up this module to give her an easy way to switch between touch and no-touch modes while drawing.
The module works by injecting code prior to "dispatchTouchEvent" on both the Activity and View classes. If the name of the device sending touch events is "sec_touchscreen" the event is swallowed and never reaches the Activity or View (by returning false).
The module is toggled at runtime with the file "spenonly" on external storage. Included in the module is a floating, moveable toggle window that will create and delete this file for you for quick switching between modes.
Installation
Download APK attached OR install via Google Play (Link)
Open the Xposed Installer and navigate to the Modules section
Enable "S-Pen Only [1.0]"
Reboot device
At this point the module will be enabled but turned off. To toggle the state of the module launch the "S-Pen Only" application which will pop-up a small floating window in the top-right corner of your screen with a single Switch widget. While the switch is turned on touch input will be rejected.
If you lose your Pen and cannot disable the module you can always remove the "spenonly" file from external storage via ADB or PC file manager.

Notes
Since the module is toggled via the presence of a file on external storage, applications that don't have READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE probably won't work with this mod. Since most drawing applications save their files to external I haven't seen this present any real issue.
On a fresh installation you might need to toggle the module a couple of times if it's not working right off the bat.
This module uses the StandOutWindow library by Mark Wei: Github

Thank you so much. I've been waiting a long time for this. It will really change the way that I use my Note 10.1.
Just started using it. But is flawless so far.

This module is invaluable for those who draw and take handwritten notes. Also a fantastic deterrent for would be snoopers. (Sorry hunny, it's just better if you think my phone is broken)

It would be great if it could be integrated to tasker to be automatically triggered when pen is out and turned off when pen in

Agreed! Then you could also trigger it when you launch specific apps.

Agree! I was looking for this and it works great !
Just make it turned on or at least triggered when the pen is out and closed when its back inside.

@ObsidianX
I just found this mod last night, and was on my way here to post this exact question!

This is exactly what I needed, espesially in Photoshop Touch and S-Pen. Much better than the built-in Palm rejection.
Besides being manageable via Tasker (or Automated Device) a cool feature would be to switch the input method on pen in/out.
Thank you very much for this module, really increases the S-pen value..

I think this is exactly what you need.

Great Stuff
do you think it could be also adapted to allow pen only input on sony xperia devices that have "pen mode" enabled?

Does it work on galaxy Tab A because I tried and it did not

I know some tags will work with symbian but not with android. So there might be a compatibility issue as well. Something to do with the hardware maybe?
Using the Sony Xperia Smart Tags and app from the Play Store. Works fine for me. Only thing I could do with is GPS on/off in the options. Going to have a play with it and Tasker to see how they can combine.
Anyone from aus or outside us been able to install google wallet and use it?

To get GPS toggle working you need Tasker AND secure settings. Once you have installed secure settings go to system settings, security and enable it as a device administrator. Then open the app and go to the helper tab and install the helper. Now go into tasker and go to settings, misc tab and tick allow external access. Create a new task (i called mine GPS Toggle) click the plus to add a new task and click on plug ins. Select secure settings then hit configure. In the drop down list you will see gps. choose on, off or toggle and hit the little disc icon in the corner to save. Now you can select this task from nfc task launcher to program gps state to tags!

dont have a clue which uk retailers accept it though, anyone know?
P.S. A fellow Bristolian!!!
EDIT: Ive just tried following the instructions but get the error message. Having done some more research i think google have fixed this workaround so it doesnt work. Looks like we might have to wait for an official google release before we get to play with wallet

That's for the Galaxy Nexus.
The Google Wallet application will not work on a One X. Unless you can fool Google Wallet into thinking you're using one of the Wallet-approved phones (Nexii and those LG phones), you won't be getting anywhere.
I want to buy 10 of those, but i'm not sure which ones are better for my One X.
I think i'll try to write my own NFC Application in the near future. So which ones shall i buy?
These:
http://rapidnfc.com/item/59/white_nfc_tags_ntag203_round_38mm
Or these:
http://rapidnfc.com/item/48/white_nfc_tags_ultralight_c_round_38mm
Is there a limit how many times i can rewrite those tags? Or can i only write the information once on those nfc tags?

As far as i know you can rewrite tags as many times as possible (although i think you can make them read only) Those tags look ok, id check the capacity though as i couldnt see it anywhere. If you want to use them for things other than just tel numbers or links then id go for some 1K tags.
im confused as to why you would use a tag to say turn on/off the gps for example when its just as easy to go to the settings and do it? In most cases its probably quicker and easier than having to carry around tags with you.
for example on my phone now all i have to do is hit a single widget on the home screen (power control app). Whereas if i had a tag i would need to get that out of my pocket as well as my phone and swipe it.

NFC tags are useful if you regularly need to do a set of tasks in a particular situation. You also tend to leave the tags where that situation occurs rather than keeping them in your pocket! For instance when I get in my car I only listen to music from my phone so I want it to start playing. I also want the music app to load, media volume set to maximum and to turn wifi off. By using a tag (which is stuck to the dash) I can make the phone perform all these tasks at once. I can also use another tag to set the phone up in a different way for when I leave the car. Hope that explains it OK

As Dan's said, it's not carrying the tag around, it's having the tag where you need to switch a load of stuff.
For example, my home one is wifi on, bluetooth off, volume max. Car's wifi off, bluetooth on, open the car home app. Work's silent, no wifi, no bluetooth. Just tap the tag when you go past it/get in the car. Job's a good 'un.

ah right,
i was under the impression that you could only use the tags to perform 1 task rather than a "subroutine" of functions
Can I exchange apps through android beam or do i need to use another app or something? how about the wifi direct thing with samsung beam , works android beam on same way?

Splitscreen for ANY app?

Although the Note 2 has the ability to splitscreen with Samsung and Google apps, I was wondering whether it will be possible for developers to edit 3rd party apps and make it compatible with it. As Google apps work with splitscreen, maybe we can compare the one that comes with the Note 2 with the equivalent version number from the original.
I'm sure that this is possible and that it probably isn't too hard to do. However, it will be very hard to dig in and find where the extra code is hidden.
Although I do not own a Note 2, just this splitscreen feature itself makes me very tempted.
So, can we make it a reality? :fingers-crossed:
Its nothing to do with the apps themselves, its a Samsung service that allows two apps to be displayed, theoretically any two apps could be made to work. In the code Samsung basically lists specific apps to allow, this can most likely be edited to allow more.
it is something that is being worked on by various people here on XDA.
There is a Split-screen thread above (a pinned topic) which discusses this.
Could you please provide a link? Seems like the thread is not pinned anymore.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048668
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Note that some apps just don't work in multi windowed mode, even though you enable them.
Fullscreen games, for example, will still run full screen - and you can only see the part of the portion that is visible in window #1.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard switches input method

Hi guys,
I got a very nice logitech k810 bluetooth keyboard, But every time i connect it to my phone it switches my input method to the samsung keyboard.
Even if i set swiftkey to default. It's quite irritating..
Does anybody know if i can disable this? Or maybe which service/package causes this then ill make an xposed mod myself to stop it.
Thanks!

Thanks for your response. However i just finished writing a mod to solve this issue at the root of the problem.
PS: Would anybody be interested in me releasing this mod?
It will stop the switch to the samsung keyboard when either using a bluetooth or USB keyboard or an dock.

I will compile one tomorrow. You will be needing the xposed framework, if you don't already have it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Manipur,
First install the xposed framework i linked it in my previous post.
Then install my mod (It doesn't matter if you switch these two around).
You should get a popup that my module isn't active (If you don't get the popup open the xposed installer application and switch to the modules tab)
"Enable XposedFreeInput"
Then reboot, Now when you connect an external input device is shouldn't switch the input method.
Let me know how it goes.
Tasker
A less elegant solution is to grab Tasker and have "Disconnect from BT keyboard" trigger an input selection popup.

Hi so sorry... Been busy a bit.
I wouldn't want to change my settings as of now. What I basically did was install an apk called keytest.
I already had external keyboard helper pro installed. I just remapped a few keys so that the keyboard doesn't change to samsung keyboard. On top of that I also added a keyboard map for the physical menu button so that I can launch it anytime I require.

U know what... I was slightly not comfortable installing the Xposed framework, because I don't have cwm recovery installed. My note 2 is just rooted using CF-Auto root method. So I can't basically make a nandroid backup. I used this method so that I can get OTA updates now and then by disabling root.
But the pop up to change to Samsung default was pretty irritating. I've tried using tasker to create a profile, but I couldn't assign the parameters. I took the risk of a bootloop and took the plunge, installed Xposed framework and installed your Xposed free input...and it works great. Now I don' t have to change my input method everytime I connect my wireless keyboard. Thanks to you man.
Sorry for being a little chicken hearted.

Cool thing about xposed is that you don't need CWM, Just root.
However i do understand your discomfort, I rooted my phone 2 days after purchasing it. The thought that i might wreck a quite expensive phone within 2 days (while voiding my warrenty) wasn't a pleasurable one indeed.
Anyway glad the mod worked, Now at least i can say it has been officially tested
Just stumbles upon this thread while searching for a solution to this annoying problem with input method switching (I bought a BT keyboard yesterday). Scalee -- thanks a lot for the module! I already use Xposed for a lot of other stuff, so that was a no-brainer for me. Just another proof that you can find pretty much anything here on XDA. If it's not here, there's a good chance it doesn't exist...

Tried it on a samsung s4 with android 4.3 (rooted).
I had to uninstall it as it was causing 75% of what I type to be lost unless I slowed down to no more than a character or two per second.

Something got really hosed. Uninstalling XposedFreeInput and rebooting didn't restore the keyboard. I had to go back to a nandroid backup to fix keyboard input.
I don't really mind the samsung popup -- I just hit return on the keyboard twice to get past it. What really made me crazy was that samsung would reset the soft keyboard to their own instead of swiftkey. I ended up using tasker with security settings / system+ / input method to keep it set to swiftkey.
This App fixed it for me, but it needs root.
it fixed my problem, that the bluetooth keyboard would not be recognised from the SwiftKey. Now I can easily switch between physical and touch keyboard - Nexus 4 v4.4.2

Not rooted; what am I missing?

From veteran to n00b lol, feels like annoying fresh start with not being able to post in all forums after that many years @ XDA, but clean starts are good for you (really).
With some black magic and a lot of cash I decided to get PXL and thinking of staying clean (not rooted) this time.
I unlocked bootloader and flashed @franciscofranco kernel and that's all. As I can not post in dev thread, can a good soul explain if and what am I missing without root? I almost never change anything in FKU so anything else that is not there or there's no francos magic because of no root?
And yeah, I do miss Naptime. I know..
Thanks a bunch,
V
I am stock Franco rooted. If I unroofed there are four things I would miss a great deal. High brightness mode in FKU. It is key for using my phone for navigation on my motorcycle. Later on as he finishes development for our kernel I would also miss performance profiles. I like his power saving profile.
Ad blocking and themes are the other two not related to Franco.

Dns66 is another alternative:

I'm rooting just for titanium backup.

man wish someone would have told me about this before I forked over 7 dollars haha. will try it and see how it goes!
Primarily I root for GMD Gesture Controls so that I can set up custom edge gestures for easy one handed operation using a bunch of thumb swipe gestures from either edge of the screen (and many more multi-finger gestures on screen). By setting up edge gestures I no longer have to reach for the back, home or recents buttons for example but beyond that I can pull up any other app or shortcut I wish to program to whichever gesture I choose to record.
Second to that would be a tie between Tasker and Titanium Backup. With Tasker I've got profiles ranging from audible notification when a bluetooth connectivity change occurs, automatic volume adjustment to a particular setting upon plugging in headphones (or another when in my car on BT) to setting up quiet times of the day or going to speakerphone when on a call and being set on the table face up. I've even got a profile to turn wifi on/off automatically based on my activity (off when i leave home and start my car, on after getting out of my car but only long enough to connect to work/home wifi otherwise back off). Titanium I use to freeze apps that I don't need and to back up all apps just in case an update on Play Store brings unwanted changes to an application (bugs or unwanted features).
Then there's other minor tweaks like Adaway, Greenify and QuickTile. Quicktile I am using to cycle through different display timeout settings when I want to hand the phone over to someone else to look at something, it makes quick work of switching display settings.
Lastly I currently am using Fingerprint Quick Action app to program powering off the phone with a double tap of the fingerprint sensor and to launch an app of my choice (LastPass in my case) on fingerprint scan once the phone is unlocked by fingerprint.
Also add a +1 for me for audio mods Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos.
I'm currently patiently waiting for Xposed to add further mods but for now I'm fine without it.

Not rooted; what am I missing?
BALLS
(hahaha just wanted to write that)
I dont think so you are not missing much i have also rooted pixel but i haven't flashed anything waiting for Xposed or some mods maybe Magisk or something phone is flawless for me working perfectly.
This is an old one but still relative, enjoy
I root for substratum and cf lumen mainly, with titanium as an extra perk since I'm already rooted.

Tutorial: Workaround for Missing Notification LED by Always on Edge

Disclaimer: I am not Responsible for Burns on your gorgeous Amoled display or the Nuclear war triggered or your anything using by my guide.
As we have the Notification Led ditched by Sammy, we have a few alternatives. However, I have somewhat mimicked the missing features through Always On Edge.
Play Store Link: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
I can understand that this has already been discussed, my purpose of this thread is to Guide you an effective configuration of the AOE app. Many people find the app difficult to configure as this is like a "One Page Website" containing almost all the options in the same place, therefore looking messy. Also, this app have several bugs yet I found this most reliable yet.
I don't claim any credit for the App.
Steps:
Please disable dear Samsung's Edge Light feature OFF.
Disable Window and Transition Animation off in Dev Settings if you don't like AOE flickering statusbar during notification reminder.
Install Always on Edge from the play store link above.
Go to AOE settings, Give the app necessary Permission.
Exclude the app from being battery optimized.
On How/When to Light section, select your preferences. In "When Notification Comes", select your apps to notify and set your preferred colour.
Turn Reminder on for 8 seconds in every 16 seconds.
On Edge Style, Select Stable (This helps reduce battery drain).
Check Adjust brightness, keep it at mid range or as you prefer.
On How to Close, select Double Tap to Close.
Now, on Enable Edge Lighting, keep it enabled, Select around Notch only. On the notch support settings, select Adjust manually and select the values 55,0,15,10, Right > 120 respectively.
This will make a smaller notification LED like light above the notch. We usually don't use that area so, it should be absolutely fine. With these settings, you get a working notification LED alternative.
I hope this helps a lot of us. These settings are my personal preference at this moment. I am also looking into Chainfire's Holey Light but that thing is a baby and drains battery plus does not notify when on battery and screen is off. So, I shall wait till other alternatives are available.

Why wouldn't you add this to the thread that already exists about this app?
I can understand that this app has been already talked about but why I made this thread is so that more people can get the guide easily and it does not get lost in the conversation. If moderators think it's duplicate and wish, they may merge it with the other thread.
Hi.
If I want to set it for missed calls and messages, what I have to select? Thanks
This is a proper location for this guide. It's where most users come to look for something like this. Look at the title of this section: "Guides, News, & Discussions"...
Leave it here, where it belongs.
And many thanks to the OP.

For missed calls select the Phone app.
For voice mail messages, select your visual voicemail app.
For SMS messages, select your Messages app.
This app doesnt work properly for me, it only shows notification around camera ring after i wake the screen, whats the point of it than?
Not to mention often there is like overlay over regular losckreen so i need to unlock twice, it comes over fingeprint area so i cant directly unlock phone from screen off.
Reinstalled it 3 times already just to see if im crazy or not and redid from scratch following 100% guide from youtube or net.
What im doing wrong here or it works like that for all?
@ivicask,
I can't tell you what you're doing wrong, but it's not supposed to work like that. On my phone it notifies me as soon as a new message notification arrives. Try experimenting with some of the options. And read all the notices that the developer put in the app.

Can you check if the "Screen is Off" is selected in the when a notification comes section. Also, did you disable Edge Lighting?
These are my settings and it works perfectly fine and the notification light stays on until I dismiss it. The red circled area is what needs to be changed to leave the notification light on until you dismiss it.
In the last screenshot, you scroll down through that list to select the apps you want a notification light for. Whenever you install a new app on your phone it gets automatically check off in that list. Just something to remember.
In addition whenever you make a change you have to hit save at the bottom.
This setup also works with Samsung stock AOD.

I wish people would stop recommending this app. I have had 0 success in using it and having it work as intended. I have tried your settings, and once again this does not work for me; When I get a notification, the screen lights up, shuts off, and there is no indication that a message has arrived. There are like 3 threads on this particular program that also offer suggestions on how to get the program to "work".
Yes, Edge lighting has been disabled. I even went a step further and rebooted the phone, then installed the app. Used your settings, as well as the other settings that have been suggested and I have the same outcome, I just don't get it. I am sure that atleast 100 of the reported downloads are form me trying to get this app to work LOL.
I appreciate your time to try to explain how you managed to get the app to work, but is not reliable imho, and I really wish it were
I just use the AOD, as much as I hate it, it's about the only reliable way to know that a notification has arrived.

I understand your frustration. But this app works as intended for some of us, and fills our needs. Those of us who are satisfied will continue to recommend it....
Look around. There are currently 4 devs with competing apps in the S10 forum. I'd suggest you try a couple of them and let us know if you find something that works better.

What are the other apps? I would love to try anything that would give me a working notification indicator.
You and I have a vastly different expectation when it comes to "working as intended". If it did work as intended, all of us would be able to have this app function correctly.
I also find it very convoluted and bloated. When creating a UI for any app, you should use the "user is drunk method". Meaning even if a person were intoxicated, they should be able to use the app. But that is neither here nor there.
I appreciate what the developer has done, I just haven't been able to accomplish the task at hand.

You will find threads for the other apps in the S10 (not here in S10+) "Themes, apps, and Mods" section.
FWIW, I agree with your comments about the UI.

Gotcha! Gonna go check there, thanks!
I have only a problem with this app.
When there is the notification I can't unlock the phone with fingerprint. I must wait the led/notch is off

I also have had the same problem. I normally used double tap to wake. It is however, present in this app.
Select double tap to close this app. And just use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. It works. I have been using this.
About the Bloated UI of the app, I also agree with all of you. I also contacted the developer on this. He said he will look into this once the app become more stable.
Those, who could not get this app working, I'm sure there is some settings of your phone that are contradicting. For examplen if a notification wakes up the screen, this app will not notifiy. Moreover, yes, I have been using this app as my daily driver now. It does not disappoint me. I have used all the other apps available, Holey Light, Arc Lighting. None works as it should. They works as mentioned by the dev but those features are not the feature an LED-holic person is looking for. Holey Light cannot notify when not being charged. Arc notification ridiculously asks me to watch ad for every hour I use the app.
I am not being paid by the app developer to spread the words. I am spreading the word because it works for me and it SHOULD work for you also as we share the same device. There must be some conflicting app or settings. If anyone needs help settings this up, I would love to help.
